Mick Taylor wasn't hired to BE in the band, to look cool smoking with Keith, but he was hired to PLAY in the band, he took it as a job, his job was perfection, he made The Stones into a band where, particularly live shows, you really LISTENED instead of just loved the band for who they were... they needed him during the guitar-god era in 1969 and thank god he held on for four complete studio albums, one live album, one movie, and endless bootlegs...

The greatest mistake the Stones ever made was not doing WHATEVER IT TOOK,
to keep Mick Taylor in the band.
For starters, they could have PAID him.
He was given no credits on SEVERAL albums---in other words, no residuals.
In addition, his mates should have helped him with drug addiction and got him the help
he needed to stay with the band.
    They did not...
With all due respect to Keith Richards---on Mick Taylor's WORSE DAY,
Keef couldn't hold a candle to him.
Make no mistake, Keith Richards is a very good guitarist.
Mick Taylor is a GREAT guitarist. A guitar genius.
Right up there with Hendrix, Clapton, and Santana.
    No doubt about it.
The five albums he produced with the Stones from '69-'74 are all classics.
The band was never the same after 1974.

“I think he had a big contribution. He made it very musical. He was a very fluent, melodic player, which we never had, and we don't have now.”……”Mick Taylor would play very fluid lines against my vocals. He was exciting, and he was very pretty, and it gave me something to follow, to bang off. Some people think that's the best version of the band that existed". - Mick Jagger

Mick Taylor was the reason why I picked up the guitar. He was never flashy or played in a rush. He felt every note and took us on a journey. He vocabulary in his playing was unmatched. I will always love the Stones in all of their music, with Mick Taylor they were at a higher level. Many people say he was underrated, very true. How can he not be, he was with arguably the greatest rock band of all time. To me he was never underrated, but in reality he was. He never got the credit he deserved. His contribution to the Rolling Stones , specially during concerts, was never matched again. Remember Mick Taylor was only 20 when he joined the Stones in 1969 and as Jagger would later say (after Taylors departure from the band) of Taylor's contribution to the band: "I think he had a big contribution. He made it very musical. He was a very fluent, melodic player, which we never had, and we don't have now"

The short term tenure and brilliance of Mick Taylor could not cover up the artistic decline and lack of innovation. Who is R Wood, what's he doing there, he has no skills at all!
