How to Make a Smash Burger at Home | Bon Appétit - Хобби
I like how he talked for three minutes but never actually went through the process of cooking it. Amazing.
Literally just smash the burger on the skillet.
Seriously, I just smashed this video TF off my computer. I usually never say "what an idiot", but this time I'll make an exception.
Da-Ja's Quality Crap 😂
@@rravvia they showed how to make it :> maybe it's just too complicated
He literally shows and explains how to do it you halftard
So after watching “how to make a smash burger” , I do have one question: HOW DO YOU MAKE A SMASH BURGER??
It is in the name isn't it? Grab the meat smash it, serve it with what he said. Not to hard
SMASH IT!
@@ADM-wt9cn Instruction unclear I smashed my burger in a window
not sure what heat or time or how hot my window should be
Wish you were here, Syd.
never trust a man that takes the the time to put on a tie, but ignores the belt
or, doesn't even toast the bun..
In terms of classic fashion, I believe most would agree with your statement. However, in modern fashion, one could forgo the belt when wearing a tie. Especially, if the pant fits. Because in the end... what's the purpose/utility of the belt?
Sorry, I was too focused on the burger to even glance towards his crotch
it was foretold
csnerd21 well said lol
not enough cooking footage... this was more an interview than a cooking video.
Hate to go against the grain with these comments, but I followed the general concept of your suggestions.
Literally one of the best homemade burgers I've ever had. Freaking fantastic and so simple.
Agreed, I found all the advice to be excellent.
Everybody has their own way with the meat but I refuse to serve a guest a cold ass bun or roll for their burger. Toast those buns.
I dig this. Best burger I have ever had was a $4 smash burger from a street vendor. Just special sauce, American cheese, house made pickles, and a little iceberg. Let the beef do the talking
agreed. any time i go to a burger place, i hope to god they have a "burger sauce" , then i just get it how you stated. so simple.
Paintplayer1 I agree. I take my girlfriend to popular, trendy burger places and she still prefers the burgers from the snack shacks.
I second that. I love making burgers at home for that reason. They are simple, they are easy, they are quick, they are satisfying. And if you make them at home, they're pretty cheap, too.
Thats so dope bro 4$ too what an amazing vendor
This series is so chill. Adam needs to come back with his own series where he makes at-home easy recipes like this!
the traditional smash burger is probably my favorite way to cook a burger. It has so much added flavor from the char
thumbs up but i still need my onions! :)
You can put onions on top of a burger. He was saying they shouldn't go _in_ the burger. Which they shouldn't. Ever.
Oklahoma style onion burger is a smash burger but before you smash you add thin think onion shreds then smash it altogether. But I love onions anyways!
This is acceptable as well. The point is not to use "fillers" in the mince
Gotta be thinly sliced and diced and grilled
As soon as he said a good burger must have mayo, my respect for him went up 10-fold 👌👌👌
after he said "no one likes brioche"?!
I have to agree with him. Simplicity makes this great.
Great vid. Simple is better. I love your channel and recipes. Made your "Best ever bbq ribs" last summer and I'm so ready to make some more!
This is perfect... it's weird cuz this has literally everything that I look for in a classic burger.
This is a delightfully succinct and straightforward video. Definitely trying this tomorrow.
Thank you, thank you. thank you! This really needed to be said, shown and done! There is no substitute for this sort of old-fashioned drive-in burger, unless it is hand-cut fries or onion rings to go with it!
There's no law saying "this is the right way To make a perfect burger"
If i feel like adding fries on it, fuck yeah
Lenin Vieira he literally says you can add whatever toppings you want
You crushed it with this burger and your technique. I wouldn't change a thing.
It's weird that people have such an aversion to American cheese, but I think the issue is that they hear "American Cheese" and think "Kraft Singles". There's lots of good American cheese that actually is real cheese. Land o' Lakes makes a pretty nice real American cheese, it's usually sold in the deli case. That's what you should get for an application like this.
I think that really is. You say American Cheese and the ignorant haters think "Kraft Singles" its pathetic really.
Kate Wood too true. They all hate on American cheese used in cooking videos/recipes, yet they'll happily chow down on a burger from five guys
Interesting, I didn't know they did gourmet american cheese. still presliced?
someguywhocanfly You can get it either pre-sliced or not. I'd recommend white american cheese just because no cheese is naturally yellow or orange, but you do you.
Edit: The color additives in cheese are usually harmless. White american or cheddar is just my personal preference.
LAND O LAKES IS THE BEST!
I don’t care much about the burger. I am in love with this guy’s style. 👌🏼
black griddle thin crunchy and beefy are best .... Blakes Lottaburger Northern New Mexico
I agree with him on everything except mayo. No mayo on MY perfect burger, thank you.
"Thank you for telling them what kind of burger absolutely nobody wants" (signed by absolutely nobody) ;-)
that is a great burger there. I like adding a little lard right before the thick cheese goes over.
the original goodburger
Your "double stacked burger" looks remarkably like a single. The emperor has no second patty!
I like this guy.
I like how all the executive chefs at michelin starred restaurants are commenting on here.
his gonna have to get a job at a place who makes smash burgers now
Martin's potato hamburger buns are the only buns I use when I make cheeseburgers the buns are always soft and fresh and compliments the burger
Perfection.
Excellent. Thanks BA.
Burgers are a perfect food example for measuring a chef's skill, intelligence, palette, ego, even age. Usually the more complicated, the more tall, the more grandiose the burger, the worse it tastes, the harder it is to eat, and the more I want to never return to the establishment.
Well, tides have changed and now he's a smash burger.
Well done, Sir!
i do enjoy a good burger philosophy.
An absolute exceptional video, but ya know.... everyone has their own preference
You need iceberg lettuce for the crunch- looks damned good!
Damn - I shouldn’t watch this at 4am - hungry AF now !! Burger looks great n he has a great point about grilling it vs. cast iron or def a flattop - n yeahhh on that potato bun
You're right, I was actually picturing myself having two cast iron skillets out on the Grille in the summer time. Lol, crazy right
delish!
I love smash burgers so much
Jeez... What's with all the hate? This is a fantastic way to make a burger.
{1765} Join, or Ðie this looks like a proper smash burger to me.
{1765} Join, or Ðie everyone always thinks there’s is better.
{1765} Join, or Ðie what do you do different
@@belisarius8555 I need to know this
A smash!!! I made a smashed 🍔 and it was a smash.😃.💯.🎉.
looks great
I've been telling people all my life that the number one reason that the fucking fast food hamburgers is so fucking delicious is in large parts due to the patty not being too thick. You have all these videos from shitty networks like Buzzfeed being about "we made a better bigmac, blablabla" and you go in and they just overwhelm with meat that totally changes that burger from the burgers we love from fast food.
Awesome!!
You Gotta have Brioche. By far the best vessel for the burger. Martins Potato bun. Really!!!!
I actually liked this guy
Yum!
totally subscribed you ✔
me wants this burger!!
That is a real hamburger,,fresh, simple and delicious. I actually like just a bit of garlic powder on the burger along with salt and pepper (SPG), but each person has his own taste.
If you like grilled burgers reverse searing is the way to go,,indirect smoking and finish off on a grill grate for a good sear at the end.
If you want a simple burger, cook 1/2 pound of ground Chuck, "season" it with salt and pepper, put it on a great value bun with no toppings other than a couple of slices of provolone. One on the top. One on the bottom. Beef cheese nd bread. The 3 main flavors of a burger that aren't hidden by other toppings.
Meat is also flavour that's the reason for having the name chuck for a particular cut of the cow.
I prefer a smash over a grill and usually run similar to the build in this video. Super reduced onion, merican cheese, spicy 1000 island, and a couple pickles ftw.
This does look delicious. Generally, I'm not a huge fan of putting salad on my burger, but, if the lettuce is shredded and on top of the burger, at least it shouldn't interfere too much with the bun absorbing the meat juices. Let's face it: The soggy bottom bun is almost as good as the burger itself. It's not a bun of constant sorrow.
Dennis Reynolds got out of the bar industry and into food service I see.
God bless the simple burger. Beef, salt, pepper, cheese, done.
clearly this man never travelled the world.
Needs zesty mayo, zesty pickles, crunchy bacon, tomatoes, carmalized onions, toasted bun, mustard, an lettuce on the bottom bun to keep the juicy smashed patty from makin the bun soggy. Now im hungry!
I like Jamaican habenero hot sauce and mayo
Looks nice, though I much prefer mozzarella cheese personally. Melts nice and imho has better flavor.
One point, the best way to make this type of burger is to keep the lettuce whole, but most importantly, the top of the cheese laden patty should be insulated (and further melted) by onions grilled in the beef fat from the patty. Extremely important. I would would say more important than the mayo is mustard. I love a a good dijon or german mustard, but this requires crappy yellow mustard. Aside from those points, this is spot on. Bacon is certainly never unwelcome.
American cheese is nice on a burger, but gouda will always be my choice.
I like my burgers like a BLT, plenty of lettuce and tomato. Greaseball burgers are good, but they make me feel sick, and get boring half way through. Veg provides needed moisture and contrast.
Don't know where you are getting your lean beef from,(if it's even beef?), but, the lean beef I get is loaded with flavor ...
Comes down to your own opinion I'll put whatever I wanna put on it to make me happy
"Nobody wants a pretzel bun" That's where your'e wrong kiddo.
I guess I’m one of those “none of those” people that likes brioche and a little more complexity to my burger.
Classy
The funeral starts as soon as the American cheese hits that Patty!
He had me at "no one wants a brioche bun"
So what I learned is not to trust this guy to make me a burger. Got it.
I think you got brioche buns all wrong. Great video though!
Looks like someone who works in admin. Cooks like someone who works in admin
Brioche best bun
That’s a pretty thick smash burger
Sir, you had ONE job
is this the basis behind the smashburger restaurant chain? or is that different?
chris j A smash burger and Smash burger are different things. They use the basic principles of smashing the burger, but then again so do many other places. They just took the name. No hate, I think they're awesome
BRIOCHE IS THE GODDAMN BEST
I agree with pretty much everything except you gotta toast that bun.
serious question. why is it that everyone is so against putting any other kind of seasoning on a burger other than salt?
Vegetables should always go on the bottom, under the meat patty.
"there has to be cheese on it."
"it's a burger."
A burger is not a cheeseburger... though oddly a cheeseburger is a burger...
BACON BACON BACON!!
he lost me at no one wants a brioche bun
have you had a potato bun
have you had a brioche bun?
(yeah potatoe buns are dope too)
Have you ever had 2 pieces of wonder bread? Brioche/Potato? You guys are too privileged.
more like great valve
It's a classic american cheeseburger. only fuckin bong totin panzies use brioche buns
Salt pepper and garlic powder
I like burgers that fit in my mouth
binging with babish does a way better burger this dude doesn’t even toast his buns
lmao only American cheese could do that ... that's because it a couple molecules awayfrom being plastic
American cheese is closer to ricotta or other whey based Italian cheeses
.... that sounds made up
+alex edmonds look up ways to make ricotta, it's all whey based. Mario batalli has tutorials on this very website that you can look up. I don't like pointless elitesism.
What does ricotta have to do with American .
+alex edmonds I said it twice now. both are creamy whey cheeses. heck ricotta is made from leftover milk proteins.
I disagree with a lot of what he said but at the end of the day it's your burger do what you want as long as it tastes good!
The way he obnoxiously took those bites and sucked mayo off of his fingers lit a burning rage inside of me.
I like how to don't list a cooking time, temperature for the pan, time needed for both sides, or anything.
That's an amazing 'How To' you have here.
I was with you right up until I saw you put cucumber on it
This is "what a smash burger is"
Not " how to make one" 😂😂
nix on american 'cheese.' get a melty swiss.
what if we don't like mayo, is that a problem
Adam how could you, I trusted you. _Pay Sohla_
Brioche buns are delicious. Idk what you're talking about!
Got to toast the bun
