    As an adult beginner who's listened to SOOO many songs over the decades, not being to replicate songs as quickly as I enjoy listening made me lose tons of motivation. What's helped me is taking the approach a young child would take as a student. Patterns more so than music.

  • @Topshelfmichael

    For me, the most frustration comes from learning new songs. I hear them so well because I have a DJing background so my ear is highly Developed , and I know what to put down. But the process of actually laying it down is frustrating because I can hear exactly what should go on the keys and I just want to jam out, but my inability to know quickly which notes i should lay down slow me down

Then I think, what did I learn and what was the point of spending 2 months learning something I've forgotten in a few weeks. I've played for 3 years and cannot play a single tune anymore. Something is seriously wrong.

  • @minacakes2

    great video. I'm a beginner and right now my frustration is two main things- understanding music (I genuinely did not understand that songs were written in keys and I just learned that you can take any song and play it in a different key and you still recognize it as the same song- this blows my mind. All this time I thought if you got some sheet music for a song that is the ONLY way to play it- like "c a t" is the only way to spell cat- but it doesn't work like that. I figured "easy" pieces just eliminated some notes. Anyway this major shift in understanding the craft is just taking time for my brain to accept)
    2nd issue is fingering. I'm practicing scales but also trying to learn fun songs and idk where to put my fingers. It also feels really strange to stretch my hands out to play certain notes.

    My issues is first I can not memorise pieces... Even after playing them a lot. At some point I get lost and I can not remember them. I remember the right hand but not the left.. very frustrating. So I read and play. I can improvise but my own way. So not famous pieces. Another thing is I get frustrated with pieces so I never learn and play a piece in full.. so only in a very times where I did learn the piece but still I have to go back to the piece because I do not remember it completely. I hate theory so i know the notes etc.. but i do not practise scales appergios etc. I have the piece and play it. I know I should do more scales etc... as I have to think more when reading music. I took piano in lockdown and never had a teacher....and I am rather old now at 52 but I managed to learn. But I feel my knowledge is all over the place. I feel I could be better if I did stick with playing pieces my level but sometimes I try to go to too difficult pieces. Not sure. I find it frustrating. Now I am learning very easy pieces giving a rest to more difficult pieces. I feel lost but never gave up with the piano.

    Hi, I have a problem ....and that is that I am developing Carpal Tunnel syndrome in my (L) wrist. Everyone is talking about 'technique' but I need to see the correct position and technique with the wrist and hand to prevent Carpal tunnel from the wrist. Show me correct hand/wrist position when playing.

    • @PianoFromScratch
      @PianoFromScratch  3 года назад +1

      Hi, sorry to hear you're having some wrist problems. Correct basic positioning is something I have talked about in bits in amongst a few other videos and have been meaning to do a dedicated 'starter' video on but haven't gotten to yet. I should say first that if you think you have carpal tunnel then I would strongly recommend seeing a professional on that and make sure there’s not an underlying issue before you carry on playing.
      There could be a number of things to watch out for with regards to how you’re sitting, holding your hand and moving etc, it’s a bit tricky to explain it all without showing you and it depends on what you’re doing to of course, but I would recommend a channel to you. It was called ‘practical piano technique’ but I think he’s changed the name to ‘Piano Lab’ and he has many great videos focusing on avoiding tension and injury preventive technique. The best answer may be to get a few real life lessons if that is possible at some point because that direct and personal feedback and monitoring from a good teacher can be invaluable. All the best!

    my biggest frustration is mental not technical. I have a great ear for music, i learned guitar quickly in teenage, also i learned violin, i dont play them but now at 35, i have tough time giving the dedication patience focus for basic practice; i have very extreme problem of procrastination where i hate basics, tedious boring details and i just wanna jump to the result ,which endup ignoring the basics and i am unable to acheive anything at all. Having no goal oriented and focused effort. I love your msgs about the details, you gave great attention to the basic details. The fingering hand independence practice can act as a meditation if i practice eyes closed for a few minutes, i am sure it will improve brain activity. Still its hard to practice as it takes a lot of focus and attention, stress handling.

      There's a saying - " Set your limitations and sure enough they will appear ! " Treat each new challenge as a potential friend - some friendships take longer than others to grow - imagine the fun you can have with your new friends - it might just take a bit of time but greet each moment with enthusiasm and remember - there are no problems - just opportunities to learn and grow.

    Interval changes going from one key to another. I can only operate within the key of C. If I wanna go outside of that I have relearn each interval or learn each note on the piano and then know each note for each key. Thats absolutely insane. Ive played guitar my whole life and once you know the shapes on the fret board, for the most part, key changes are nowhere near as hard. If I can learn the major and minor of C then thats it.
