    I love all of my Nepali docs friends, but I agree most of them that I know have very high scores with ‘relatively’ short studying time.
    They are highly educated physicians, and since elementary school, we’ve been taught that cheating in exams is wrong, case closed.
    We all make mistakes, and no one is guilty until proven otherwise, I think USMLE is generous enough to allow them to retake their exams. As you have said, scores are just part of the application.

    ECFMG extorts exorbitant amount of fees from international applicants but gets sloppey on setting up the questions and repeats like a broken record, its their own mess. Targeting one national is a LOW BLOW. Surely it is an International issue and they could have done better than calling out one underdog nation. Just my 2 cents.

    • @YuliusHaryadi7189
      @YuliusHaryadi7189  7 месяцев назад +3

      The fees are expensive, but it's because the product comes from america. Just like nepal, indian, indonesian, and chinese food in america are expensive. You need to pay the people who work on creating the exam and that is not cheap. To be fair, the US students pay the same price as International Grads. The only difference is the international surcharge, which I think is related to the laws/regulations. As for repeated questions, that can certainly be improved. However, its also understandable for them initially to not rotate the qs that often because each question that created required to be reliable and valid. Saying that " its too easy for us to cheat so we cheat" is an awful excuse. It's like saying, "Committing a crime is so easy, so that's why I do it." There is a reason the ecfmg put the rules so that people should not reproduce and distribute the exam qs, and violation is still a violation. I think despite knowing this, they are nice enough to give 2nd chance. And finally, why ECFMG call out one nation (Nepal in this case), my guess is because the evidence pointed out a lot of irregularities related to that region and they tried to be transparent of their finding. However, in the end, people will believe what they want to believe.

    Nepalese are relatively niave as compared to their other Asian counterparts (India, Pakistan & Bangladesh), just my observation. Who ever can post whatever under the guise of anonymity (x, reddit etc) . I'm sure ecfmg (USA) don't have balls to point out discrepancies from India due to their political relationship but they'll sure come after Pakistan/Bangladesh sooner or later.

    Previously when there was step 2 CS , only really the best doctors of Nepal aimed for usmle. I dont know about the recent stats though.
    And you rightly interpreted, sometimes you can be taught a wrong thing and doing things wrong unknowingly. Cause in Nepal, people practice past questions throughout their life. Even indians do it. All the exams in india and nepal are prepared by getting reference form past questions. And it wont be a problem here because questions gets updated unlike usmle. I was shocked to know, past questions were exactly repeated in real exams ! And its sad, some really brilliant doctors are going to face a great consequence of this mistake, a mistake due to difference in culture perhaps.
    But this is best thing that could have happened. The world needs to be a fair place for everyone. Hardwork should be emphasized. This scandal is a great lesson to culture of south asia.

      @drerpa3182 I mentioned this in another reply. the rule is clearly stated here that you are not allowed to reproduce and distribute the questions. www.usmle.org/step-exams/exam-security-fairness/examples-security-violations. I studied past exams my entire life, this is typical, and not only in Nepal but all over the world. it's one of the best approach to study for exam. However, it is not allowed in USMLE. Once you leave the prometric center, you are not allowed to tell people the questions you saw. It is the job of USMLE takers to read and follow the rule.

      @YuliusHaryadi7189 those giving step 1 and getting these questions wouldn't know at first. I am saying this for newbies who jouned this culture later. The ones who gave step 1 and are sharing questions should have stopped. Sadly the cycle continued. They started this disastrous trend for themselves 👀.

    • @YuliusHaryadi7189
      @YuliusHaryadi7189  7 месяцев назад +3

      @drerpa3182 I doubt that the usmle takers didnt know about the rules. If its legal, why do you join a private group secretly? This alone should make you wonder: "is this allowed?" And people would look it up in official website to read the rules. In my opinion they do it even though knowingly its wrong because everyone is doing it. But I agree, unfortunately the trend did continue. Thats why they need a 2nd chance. its just so happen this situation is deeply ingrained in the culture/environment. I personally believe they can reach similar score without using past questions.

    Well, cheating is too harsh a word. It seems the USMLE questions were repetitive and not innovative. People around the world refer past questions to prepare for the exam. Telegraph group or not, but the USMLE questions lacked innovative approach and relied on past questions to conduct the exams. Let me tell you, these doctors, mostly from Institute of Medicine (IoM) prepare almost a decade of their time, from high school till they graduate, studying and praticing almost 14-15 hours a day during then. Also they study combined getting support from their seniors. I guess more than 70% of the doctors who attend USMLE exams are scholarship holders. BTW: more than 50% of doctors fail the Medical council exams, but these doctors are mostly self funded or have studied from the Nepal's neighboring countries such as India and bangladesh.

      @YuliusHaryadi7189  7 месяцев назад +5

      @asisd5773 interesting view. Basically what you are saying is: "they are just studying using past questions paper, why is that considered to be cheating/wrong?". It's simple, it is wrong because they violated the rule that clearly stated by usmle: to not reproduce and distribute the questions. The rules clearly stated here www.usmle.org/step-exams/exam-security-fairness/examples-security-violations. So yes I agree in some exam, its not wrong to study previous exam papers, in fact it should be one of the best approach to do an exam, but this is not allowed in USMLE.

      Abusing the system and blaming them for not being innovative. Medical field is very sensitive and in future who knows one may abuse things differently to favour their outcome. Those who passed cheating please don't lack ethics while you serve.

      Maybe, we dont know..people who cheats do have some advantage (helps them pass the score screening process that are set by programs, so their CV is now "visible"). However, as I said in the video, there are many other factors being considered for the match. If you read NRMP data, it does seem that people with high score are more likely to match, but in my opinion, its the "attributes" that these people have that actually get them to match. Bottomline, you won't match with high score alone.
