My stock hand guard did NOT come off this easily. I actually needed my wife to pull the guard off while I held down on the ring. 😂 The Magpul replacement hand guard came off MUCH easier. I too thought about making a video on this process, but I don't think I'll put that back on just to do it. LOL
pro-tip: focus on one side instead of trying to pull down the whole ring. I got mine off pretty easily by only pulling down the top of the handguard down first
Do yourself a favor and get the tool IF you're going to install a new handguard. It's not that hard to get those plastic stock ones off, but it is tough to get an aluminum aftermarket quad rail back in without the tool.
I have done it twice with out the tool and it was hell the first time gefting the new handgaurd on wifh out the tool took me and my roommate to get it back on and this video helped the second time showing me it can be done with one person lol but you didnt zhow putting it back on by your self thats harder its easy to tske off
This is a great tool that he has I have one and leave it as it is I messed with mine and put I mean if you're going to put a very light handguard on it but don't go with those heavy vsims drop-ins they're really heavy and change your trigger right away especially if you're going to run a l POV
i put my new handguard on wrong and now it wont come off. my fingers are chaffed, bruised, and raw. im pulling it as far as i can yet the hand guard is still not coming off. never building an AR ever again.
My advice would be to just purchase the tool 😂 I tried to remove my hand guard and ended up cutting the hell out of my hand 😂. Purchase the tool which will make it a lot smoother or wear some gloves when taking it off not all hand guards will come off willingly 😂
I failed to mention that nothing was wrong with the handguard. I removed it to customize it with a aftermarket guard. I wanted a new look and ability to add new accessories. The tool to remove the ring is $15 to 20 and is prone to breaking I hear. You can do it without the tool and use that money to buy a new PMAG or two.
I always keep several handguard removal tools around. All Delta ring springs are NOT created equal. I've owned 22 ARs in my life, and some of those springs must have been made from steel salvaged from WWII Tiger tanks.

If you got plenty of strength in your arms and hands, you’re good. But not everybody does.

First time taking them off I had to use my small flathead screwdriver to encourage the bottom and top guards to come apart.

Do you know a good way to remove the delta ring? Trying to install a free float hand guard and the damn thing won’t budge
I think you need an armorers wrench, they range from $20 to 80 +.
