Discipline? 🤦🏻‍♂️ Discipline would be fixing your tools. Making sure “catostrophic failures” never happen on the job. When a family with little kids are stuck and need to be rescued. Discipline would be filling up you vehicles with gas and keeping them full so you don’t run out of gas on rescues. Discipline would be eating food that wasn’t prepared in a gas station. This isn’t discipline. Lol! This is constantly having to deal with your own stupidity.

Matt’s talk about thinking warm makes you warm is somewhat true but also a stretch in facts. If you keep busy and concentrate on other things then yes you don’t focus on the cold the physical activity keeps your core warmed enough that more blood can go to the extremities and you can feel and be warm in cold temperatures. If your not able to stay active you can think being as hot as you want but the body temp will start to lower, it will try to protect the body core by reducing blood flow to extremities, but as the core temp continues to drop Hypothermia sets in and you are done for if you cannot get warmed up.

If i could be so humble and say from cold Norway that if you're going to be working in these temperatures you need to put on cloths that are suited for these climates. Wool inside and protective layers outside. And a good hat or mutt that can hold your body temperature. Up to 70% of the body's heat goes through the head area. And extra wool socks and underwear if you get wet. And also have food and water for at least 24 hours per person. It's a lesson hard learned from the cold north. My mind gets so focused on developing a solution that everything else is secondary. This was a great team effort. I’m glad everyone got out safely. As a person who has experience with throwing track I know the pain they feel with this mishap. The worst one ive seen but was no part of was when we were getting our brads and support vics ready for a convoy in Korea. We had this trail from the motor pool that when up and over a large hill. At the half way point the trail turns 120 degrees upwards. A very nasty trail to throw track on. well the M88 of the company mechanics threw the track off. Thats a big ass vehicle to be throwing track and it was muddy and cold and it was on an incline... It was terrible. Took them a few hours to get it all back together. Then they had to drive to the destination and then If memory serves me they pulled pac on one brad that blew the engine in route and replaced it. Tough dudes an very hard working.

A decade ago a partner and I were on Greens Peak (10,000 feet elevation, northeast Arizona) when the lower radiator hose let go on our Pistenbully - very similar to the Bombardier. Really - it popped off the radiator. As we looked at the steaming pink hole in the snow I opined, "What a beautiful place to be stuck!" Truly a gorgeous view. We put the hose back on (surprisingly easy) and I tightened the bejeebers out of it, then stuffed snow in the radiator until we had the temperature under control. We made it to the bottom of the hill before the hose came off again. We radioed in; the boss had a bulldozer clear a path and a mechanic haul it back to the highway. Turned out the hose was the wrong size... just a bit too large.

It works, but only when you stay busy and keep moving.
