- Promotional video of Carnival's former Festivale. She was originally built as the Transvaal Castle in 1961 for the Union-Castle Line. In 1977 Carnival purchased the ship and named her the Festivale. She became the third ship in their fleet and became fleet mates to the Mardi Gras and Carnivale. Interestingly, she was the last Carnival ship to sport a traditional funnel. She left the Carnival fleet in 1996 and sailed as the Island Breeze for Dolphin and Premier Cruise Line. In addition, she also sailed as the Big Red Boat III later in her career for Premier Cruise Line. She was scrapped in 2003-2004.
I was 17 when my parents took me on the festival back in 85. The ship rocked (literally)lol. Stabilizers were not used on this ship. Still to this day one of the best times ever. The ship was old then , but the crew was awesome, and the food was unbelievable. Drinking was 18 then and i tried a dirty martini. Hated it. lol . They were aiming for the adult crowd and the games they had at the pool were for adults. The pools were filled with sea water. That Festival was a great ship. I am still cruising today. Thats basically what I live for. Getting on a ship and when is my next cruise.
My first was on the Fantasy in 04 :) I love Carnival. I very much wish I was alive in 1985 to see the original ships!
I can attest to the no stabilizers on this ship and it being old. In 1988, our high school graduation cruise was on the Festivale. We left Miami headed over to Nassau on the first day and boy were the seas rough due to a storm. Literally felt like the ship would lean over. Nonetheless, the alcohol flowed for 18 year olds and we had a great time. Have been on 5 cruises since but this gave me that first taste of what cruising was like and have enjoyed it ever since. My tastes and budget has changed for the better so Carnival Cruise Lines is not for me anymore but I will always cherish that summer with high school friends on the Festivale.
Carnival Cruise Line Festivale is a best promo video
Took our first cruise on her in 95…..best cruise ever
This was my first cruise 🛳 in 1986. God has been good ❤
I wish the Captains dinner, midnight buffet still existed. I wish the food was still good.
Loved this video. Festivale was my first cruise in 1979. My parents and grandmother and younger sister all share a regular room. I was only 15 them and we had a FANTASTIC vacation. We still love cruising!!!
I traveled on this ship when it was the Transvale Castle in the sixties when it belonged to Union Castle and also traveled on the Windsor Castle slightly bigger most beautiful ship with unbelievable food and service and crew .
This is fabulous. I would've loved to sail in the ol Festivale. Original funship!
Crazy, I played with some of these guys in the show band back in late 1982 on drums....backed up both singers on here as well. I was only 18 yrs old at the time...
We sailed on the Festival in 1989 and loved it!!!🥰🤩😍
Aw Kathie !!! And the Festivale. ❤
now I wanna go back in time to go cruise on the Festivale
Sadly she was scrapped
It was a great ship
Amé viajar en el TSS Festivale en 1986, tenía 9 años, y fue muy divertido.
I actually got a deck of playing cards from the festival and my grandmother got it for me at a estate sale 😮
My father was the same way when it was time to leave the cruise ship. My mother had to pay the attendant a few dollars extra so he could sleep in a little bit longer and they left about 11 am.
I wonder how Cynthia Smallwood got on that cruise
Sold a million dollars worth of cosmetics or something
I think she won it in a drawing
I think she got a free cruise in her mailbox, but honestly, nobody has any idea how she got onboard. Everyone else made it obvious though.
Lots of good head
@@dog8958 Sold a million dollars worth of Barbara Kay Cosmetics apparently 🤔
2:08 is RMS Transvaal Castle's whistle. They did change it
🎶 iiiiin the morning, in the evening, *AIN’T WE GOT FUN?* 🎶
The Hardy couple were from Harrisburg, Pa 30 mins from where I live. Pretty cool
Here we go!!! KATHIE LEE folks!
Wow look at the water slide, compared to now 😂
Honeymoon cruise in 1988 - Eastern Caribbean in May.
All cruise lines had class in those days!
Nope not like back in the day’s.
Sure, the Festivale's theme might be "Ain't We Got Fun"; but in the Hardys' case, it's "Undecided" ("First you say you do, and then you don't / Then you say you will, and then you won't / You're undecided now / So what are you gonna do?").
Is that billy crystal as a waiter at 5:24?!!? I've paused it five times and we still can't decide!
No
Me and my wife's honeymoon was on the Festivale in 1995
2:09 Horn
room keys that open with a key?, archaic
RMS Transvaal Castle
16:45 - But Harry never did come out. Gladys had had all but enough of his stick-in-the-muddiness and served him on the spot with divorce papers several days later.
(with apologies to Barry Manilow)
_Her name was Gladys, she was a housewife_
_But that was forty years ago since on this cruise she and Harry did go_
_Now it's an Island Breeze, but not for Gladys_
_Still, in the gown she used to wear, a scuffed tiara in her hair_
_She sits there so refined, and drinks herself half-blind_
_She lost her youth and she lost her Harry-now she's lost her mind_
_On the Fun Ship, Fun Ship Fe-sti-vale_
_The most fun-packed cruise trip of them all_
_On the Fun Ship, Fun Ship Fe-sti-vale_
_Music and passion were always the fashion_
_On the Fun Ship_
_Don't fall in love... (Fu-u-n Shiiiiip...) Don't fall in love... (Fun Ship Fe-sti-vale...)_
Yes it used to be this way before the big American corporations took them over .It was fine in the beginning.
My husband is harry lol
he is a funny man
I admit I'm a Harry sometimes ..
This is hilarious and so cringey! 😂
Yea, carnival cruises are so much better today with all of trashy ghetto fights on them and weed stinking up the hallways. 😂
3:25 Not a great advertisement for a cruise to illustrate how you can’t escape the people who annoy you.
I gave up after 4 minutes!!! Awful, enough to put you off leaving the house let alone taking a cruise.
