So sad to see here like that. My family was lucky to be on board for 3 cruises the last year of service. They had just put all new carpet and updated a buch of stuff.
Is there a way to buy things from the ship?? I would like a life ring or other thing that has her name. Cant help but wonder who got the ship model that was in the main dining room. 🚢🤠🦆🚢

As i'm currently working as an engineer in german shipbuilding on the next Carnival project, tears come to me. When you consider how many people worked on such a project and did everything to ensure that it was built in good quality and on schedule. But in order to make room for new things, the old has to go.

@@kerigpope Oh, so speaking facts is right-wing these days. Yeah, makes sense, with lefties doing nothing but spreading lies. Anyhow, the Wuhan Virological Institute is to blame for this, and the US government did fund their experiments. The fact is, these ships had a much longer planned life and would've been used without COVID19 suddenly drawing the demand to zero. Without COVID19, these could've been re-sold to other cruise companies or whatever, but the demand was zero for every other company operating ships like these as well, so they had to cut their maintenance losses and sacrifice a few of these ships in order to survive and keep on operating the newer ones.

But, to me, I adore the attention to detail: imaginative theming, contrasting materials that create layers of texture, dramatic use of scale, the fantasy use of lots of color, all that! Which is why my imagination is captured in themed environments found in Las Vegas , especially in the 1990s. All entertaining, stimulating, magical!! So bored with plain, straight, minimal color that is “in” now in interior design.

In days old, they didn't care about inhumane conditions for prisoners and wounded soldiers. The ships they took in days old were in good condition liners planned for decades of operation before the war broke out and their maintenance was neglected even in days old to the degree they weren't worth their weight in scrap metal after the war. The same goes on here, either they spend the millions a month to maintain them or they neglect them, quickly turning them into scrap metal and selling them to a scrapper before the neglect means they become a liability instead of still worth their price in scrap and fancy 2nd hand furniture.

Holy shit! That’s the ship I was on when my family went on a cruise 15 years ago! It brought back so many memories.

This was the first cruise I went on in the summer of 2017, it was a 4 day Catalina- Ensenada cruise from long beach, I had so much fun on the ship, and they had really good food. The one thing I didn’t like was that the cabin was really small, but I got to sleep on one of those beds that hang from the wall, and I got room service almost every morning.

Many of the ships that were scrapped during the pandemic were older ships that had been laid up for a while costing money in storage etc waiting works for one reason or another for example a refit or other major works and they became more valuable as scrap and were a quick way to raise much needed funds instead of costing lines money in a time of no earning and ongoing business costs.
Sadly some smaller lines without such resources went out of business and the ships still went for scrap, one ship nearly went for scrap before its float out but another established line bought it.
I think one or two of these carnival ships had been laid up for four years and carnival decided with the increased desire for balconies and the cost of storing them and eventual refit etc they’d be more value and could earn more money releasing cash quickly than wait for the industry to recover, then refit them but they still won’t have the much needed balconies making them dated by modern standards so were better to scrap them, and later replace them with modern ships that meet todays cruising needs.

27 years seems such a short amount of time, but these ships remain in constant operation for most of their working lives. They can quickly become antiquated and undesirable by passengers looking for the next wow.

My wife and I went on our honeymoon on this ship… it’s sad to see something that you made wonderful memories on finally come to an end. I’ve been on newer and larger ships since then that evolved to a better layout for the passenger, BUT the Fantasy class ships did have some of the most elegant lines you’ll ever see for a cruise ship.

There is a heart of wonder and exuberant artistry that went into these designs that just aren't replicated in newer ships. In a better, less shallow world, this would have been converted into a museum ship.

I was aboard the Inspiration from Long Beach to Ensenada, Mexico to Catalina Island and back in October, 2016. Its surreal seeing the state of the ship I was on for my first (and still only) cruise and now knowing that it no longer exists having been scrapped.

I can’t believe it. The ship I went on for summer vacation in 2014 is now home. I am not going to forget that year since 2024 will be tenth anniversary of my first trip on a cruise. It was the Inspiration of the Carnival line.
