  • This video is from my 1988 sailing on the now vintage Carnival Holiday cruise ship which is long gone from Carnival Cruises. On this cruise we sailed from Miami down to Jamaica, Grand Cayman and Cozumel Mexico. The video shows shots of the dining room, outside deck, pool area, cabin and halls and other items of interest. It is interesting to watch as we sail back in time.

    I lived on the Holiday for 2 years 1987-89 as a casino croupier. I was probably on board when you filmed this! Thank you for this amazing video of my “ home”! ❤️It was great to see it again!

    I sailed on the Holiday in November of 1985. It was my first cruise and we sailed right into a hurricane (Kate). Our itinerary was modified by skipping St. Maarten and we cut through between Cuba and the Dominican Republic to get away from the hurricane on our way to San Juan. At the time it was the first time that the ship had been to San Juan and many other cruise ships pulled as well. After San Juan we continued on to the rest of the cruise as scheduled. St Thomas and then Nassau. Had a great time and have been om many Carnival cruises since.

      I am sure you experienced some rough waters on that one. I sailed from Alaska to Beijing China via the Bering Sea during a storm. 100 mph winds and at one point, I thought the ship was going to break in half. I started drinking really early on that sea day!!! ha ha Thanks for the comment!

    We took our honeymoon on the Holiday in 1991. Thanks for this video! It was lovely to see the ship again and hear “Ole, Ole, Ole, Ole” again! The dining experience was so much more elaborate back then. I remember the exquisite Midnight buffets with ice sculptures and so
    much gorgeous food at all times.

    • @patsadventures6381
      @patsadventures6381  Год назад

      I am glad you enjoyed it....yep it was a shame when they started cutting back on all the things like the midnight buffet, top of the line food, etc. But they are trying to keep the prices down I guess. Hope your still cruising after all these years!

    Thanks so much for posting this video and your other cruise videos.
    I worked for Carnival Cruise Line as a Purser between June 1990 and October 1991 on board the Celebration, the sister ship to the Holiday, where I met my husband. My husband worked as a Dancer on board both the Celebration and Holiday between 1989 and 1991.
    Every Saturday, the 2 sister ships were docked side by side at the Port of Miami where we also saw the other ships that you mention in your video (Norway, Sovereign of the Seas and the Caribe I).
    As Pursers, we were responsible for embarkation and debarkation of passengers so the part where you show the passengers waiting to board brought back a lot of memories, as well as the footage of the passengers waiting to do boat drill. How we all dreaded that every week. LOL
    When we were first married, we lived in Miami Beach and the view from our apartment window was the ships docked at the Port of Miami along the MacArthur Causeway. This coming November we will celebrate our 29th wedding anniversary.
    As I mentioned to you in a private message, I have shared your Carnival cruise videos with many other former crew members and many mentioned that watching your videos of their former homes brought tears to their eyes.
    I would love to see more cruise footage if you are able to share more in the footage. Thanks again!

    Cruising was so much better back then. All the lines including Carnival were the definition of class. Today, Carnival is the Greyhound Bus of the seas.

      No one liked the muster drills including me. In later years I would get a couple beers, shut the cabin lights off, go out on my deck and pull the curtain closed during the drill. When the room steward came by he would think we were gone. Then they changed to the electronic muster check in and that changed everything. ha ha Glad you enjoyed the video.

      So long ago I don't recall....but if it was stairs leading to a bar, I am sure I found it. Funny, I was on the Viking Octantis in Antarctica (378 passenger exploration ship) and heard people were meeting in The Hide bar at the front of the ship for evening drinks and storytelling. Turns out, the location is called the Hide because it is hidden. Took us about 1/2 hour to find it because doors are intentionally mislabeled (i.e., Crew Only, Galley, etc.) as part of the experience. Fun time when we finally found it! ha ha

    So many memories watching your video. All three ships there back to back. Our first date was walking up Dunns River falls!!!!!! You nailed the first 3 years of our lives together in one beautiful video. To this day, 30 cruises later, were still partial to Carnival. Leave on Oct 8 on Carnival Horizon..........can you guess the itinerary?? Ocho Rios, Grand Cayman, and Cozumel!!!!!!!!!!!!! Were still happily married and still cruising. Celebrating our anniversary this year on a retro cruise of how we first met and the original itinary. Thanks so much for all the great memories you shared.

    Our first cruise was on this ship in 2006 from New Orleans. There were two things after this five day cruise I still bring up during cruising conversations. First, I never felt like I was on the water. The gulf waters were like glass, smooth. I was actually disappointed that I couldn't tell I was on the high seas! The other is that 5 days is too short! We immediately booked our next cruise a seven day on the NCL Grandeur of the Seas. Being December, the gulf waters were way different. Twelve foot swells definitely made this cruise memorable. We have cruise mainly Carnival and will have 21 cruises once we get on the Mardi Gras hopefully in Dec 2021. Thanks for the video.

      @patsadventures6381  3 года назад +1

      My first cruise was a seven day and I fell in love with cruising. Later I took a four day one and said, never again, only seven or more. Finally I took a 12 day cruise and swore I would never go back to seven. Then a 14 day cruise - more spoiled. Then a 22 day cruise and I still did not want to get off the ship.....addicted like drugs! ha ha On my cruise from Alaska to China we had to cross the Bering Sea. The night before the Captain came on and said we would be hitting a storm at 8:00 am. When 8:00 am rolled around, I thought the ship was going to break in half. 100+ MPH winds and waves coming over the 11th floor. That was a ride I will never forget....and we loved it! Thanks for watching.

I went there with my parents, I was 10 years old. Sadly we didn't take any photos, but I recall it was a majestic and beautyfull ship. The wing shaped chimney/funnel was really special. Your video camera was state of the art in 88' and must have cost you several thousand Dollars. The camera is worth significantly more than the cruise, but even that was more than today. I think these are the perfect size ships, from this era. Outstanding food, service, passengers, crew, etc. The key word is class, as in "keeping it classy," my boyhood in the 80's was about that. Bigger is not better and often I look back at what we lost since the late 90's. Anyway, you did a great job, making videos were hard back then. It was a huge change from movie reel cameras, ten years prior.

      On my first cruise a few years earlier (RCCL Song of America) I had the giant camera, the Panasonic split VCR that I carried on a shoulder strap, and a battery pack around my waist. Had I fallen into the water I would have went straight to the bottom. By this cruise they had condensed it down to just the giant camera and you are right, it was state of the art back then. Lots of good memories.

    WOW thanks so much for posting this!!! This was so cool to see! I am an avid cruiser and an endless source of useless cruise ship information 🤣 it’s crazy to think that the ships nowadays that are around 100,000 tonnage feel small.
    As far as formal dining goes, my husband and I have always made sure to dress up very nicely. We’re cruising again in a few days and I don’t think we’re going to go all out, just because we’ve put so much money into this cruise already and it’s not 100% necessary to spend more. cool. Never sailed on her. Our first cruise was 2002 on a Fantasy class ship. Dinners were nicer back then. Oddly, I can't remember the breakfasts at all. I'm sure it had the regular breakfast at the lido like today. Do you think cruising was more expensive back in 1988 (relative to average annual income)? Obviously the ships were much smaller, but cruising was also just not as 'well known' and maybe was just gradually getting more popular. Airline tix were actually very pricey back then, so I'd guess that cruising was more expensive than today (relative to typical income).

      @patsadventures6381  Год назад +1

      Interesting question and you are right. My first cruise in 1983 was on the RCCL Song of America. I had a window cabin and for 7 days the cost was 1,050 (which included airfare from California to Miami). In todays dollars that would be $3,128...so yes, it was much more expensive back then. To keep the costs down they have cut way back on things (Midnight Buffet, well know headline entertainment, etc). But it is still fun! I do like the small ships better but they can make more profit with the larger ones. Thanks for watching.

      When I went on the Alaska cruise, every port we stopped in there was an ambulance waiting to take someone off. Not a good feeling. When I was coming back to Los Angeles from South America something happened to one of the crew members. When we were about 300 miles south of San Diego, a Coast Guard plane arrived and started circling overhead then their chopper arrived. They airlifted the guy off of the pool deck.
