    I made a child cry in 2011 because I wouldn't die after I told him 'you can play when I lose'.

    The old backprojection arcades were certainly more square than 4:3 so thats probably the reason?

    This is awesome. Do u know if Model 2 runs well on Pi5?

      The only M2 game I've tried so far on Bookworm was Rail Chase 2 (using lr-mame 0.260), and it ran at about 35-40% speed. My friend tried it on Batocera (also using mame) and had the same result. My understanding is that M2 is technically quite complex so it may not likely reach a comfortably playable state, but you never know what improvements/optimisations the future might bring. It is early days yet for the Pi 5.

    Ive got this game running through a barebones but do u have todo something to get the resolution u set as when i pick resolution there only a 720*400 i cant see a custom one or do i have to go into script to change

    • @widge
      @widge  2 дня назад

      You can change the resolution in the `Supermodel.ini` file. On Raspberry pi that would be located at `/opt/retropie/configs/arcade/supermodel3/Config/Supermodel.ini` or `/opt/retropie/emulators/supermodel3/Config/Supermodel.ini`

    I am looking a device to play this and - Jursssic Park: The Lost World Sega Arcade game. Potentially other light gun games like Time Crisis 2. But the first two are what I want it for. Any recommendations?

      Check out the Retro boss from Retropia. I have one it's amazing, does it all plays model 2 & 3, triforce, gamecube. Check it you won't be disappointed believe me.

      Sorry about the late response. The Pi5 can handle Lost World and Star Wars trilogy, but I haven't checked out the framerate on those yet, , there may be a a few areas where the speed drops (I should really find a moment to check those out) and you wouldn't be able to take the resolution up much higher than the original arcade res without performance suffering badly. I haven't been able to try any PS2 games yet, as TC2 isn't playable via MAME on a Pi5 you'd have the best chance with a PS2 version, but I don't really know how well PS2 would run. But I've seen that it's possible. A mini PC might be a better option in your case to more reliably play Model 3, more recent arcade games and PS2 if that's what you're after. i don't know much about emulation on PC myself but there's definitely more scope there.

      @@widge thanks for the reply. I’ve bought a Beelink SER 7 Mini PC - and a 6TB batocera hard drive. I’m waiting for both to arrive. But looking forward to the old arcade games.

    Is there any chance you could make this image available for download? I'm getting nowhere trying to get Model 3 emulator to run :(

    Puzzled :/
    Pi 5 is litterally 2.5x the speed of Pi4.
    Pi 4 Sega Rally 2 1 sec = 5 sec
    Pi 5 Sega Rally 2 1 sec = 2 sec
    5 / 2.5 = 2
    How on Earth do you get Star Wars Trilogy running at 1 per 1 ?

      I can't remember if my Pi was overclocked for this video, I didn't mention it in the audio or the description so it probably wasn't, but an overclock certainly does help. SWT is one of the least demanding of the Model 3 games (not much scenery to draw in space) so quite easy to get good performance out of it. The simplest way to eke out the best performance is to refrain from increasing the resolution much above the original arcade res. Even small changes can have a big impact on the performance so its not worth it. This coming Friday I'll be releasing another video of SWT being played on Pi 5 with a realtime framerate monitor to accurately gauge the performance as I wasn't sure if some sections slowed down; Look out for that if you want to see how it goes. i already did a video of LA Machine Guns with a FPS monitor and that game really does suffer and slow down a lot. I'll try to find time test some other M3 games in the future too.

    How are you running this? I can't get it to work on retropie installed on top of raspberry pi os 64-bit lite.

    • @widge
      @widge  9 месяцев назад

      You must have installed it from an older installation script, and not the current one from DirtBagXon's repo that includes a dependency required that isn't already preinstalled on Bookworm Lite.. After I indentified which package was missing, DBX's added it to the installation script here: github.com/DirtBagXon/model3emu-code-sinden/blob/arm/supermodel3.sh
      Or just running "sudo apt install gldriver-test" should get you there.

      I can't get this to work, getting a gl error even after installing gl-test. I've tried this from command line too with no luck. Any ideas? I'm using 64bit pi os.

      @robarmitage5740 I recommend using DirtBagXon's fork. Get the .sh script from the "arm" branch of his repo, add it to retropie-setup then run the installer from retropie-setup.
