It's not true that piracy killed the Dreamcast. Piracy didn't even become common until it was almost dead already. You know what killed the Dreamcast? Relying too heavily on arcade games. There were literally only 3 types of arcade games in the late nineties: fighting, racing, and light-gun. Titles with more depth and complexity were selling well on home consoles: adventure, roleplaying, strategy, survival horror. Sega had a hard time getting gamers to drop $50 for a "true arcade experience" when that experience was over in like 15 minutes.

I agree since we have all these mega drive re releases, super scaled arcades, model 2 games also got re releases, I think we should get some model 3 love. Games like VF3, Scud Race, Daytona 2, Sega Rally 2, and some parts of Star Wars really showed off what this arcade board could do, but a lot of these are graphically quite the let down comparatively
Daytona 2 still looks fabulous. Sega was the Arcade powerhouse of the 90s hands down. The best success were the Model 2 releases. I still play Daytona USA and Virtua Fighter 2. Model 3 games have a special place for me also.
Unfortunately they tried scud race and Daytona 2 but they couldn't get them at an acceptable level. So they were canned. Sega rally 2 was also garbage due to windows based encoding
And they probably could have made a lot of money too, plus more Dreamcast sales as well. Perhaps even enough to make it last a full 5 years and then even make another console. They could have sold each game separate for about $25 instead of just one $50 collection. I know I would have bought most of them and still felt like I was getting more than my money's worth, especially if they added "the making of" bonus features and perhaps an older arcade to unlock too. Imagine getting The Lost World arcade for just $25 and after you beat it taking every possible path you unlock the Jurassic Park arcade as a bonus. Wouldn't you feel like you got more than your money's worth? Oh, what could have been...
@@RECHOOSENONE Trust me, we all know. But still, there were so many more options. Even if they had to downgrade some, such as 30fps instead of 60fps, it would have really helped overall sales. I knew 5 people who said they would get a Dreamcast once The Lost World arcade and/or some others were available. Needless to say, they never got one. They all seemed confident about it coming to the Dreamcast, like it was a no brainier for Sega, and were confused as to why it and some others never came. Based on that logic Dreamcast sales would have been 6x higher than they were.
I emulate Virtua Stiker 2 on my phone, and keep 2 xbox controls in my work/laptop bag. Whenever we have time my friends and i have a quick few games. Pure arcade fun.
For those of us old enough, we'll never forget when the Model 3 board seemed lightyears aware from "home hardware", it looked incredible, even unattainable at the time lmao.
Thing is, Model 3 based cabinets really were years ahead of anything you could get at home because it literally was purpose built hardware capable of pushing about 1.2 million specula gouraud shaded, perspective correct textured, antialiased triangles per second with trilinear mip-mapping. All of this was, at the far end, rendered at 60 million pixels per second. This equates to roughly 20k triangle complexity for the scene, at 60 frames per second. To put this in perspective, a 3dfx Voodoo, from the same year, paired with the most powerful x86 (from a floating point perspective) PentiumPro to handle the geometry, was capable of maybe 1/10th the detail level at half the FPS, if well optimized. It would take PC and console hardware 3 1/2 years to catch-up, and it really wasn’t until early 2001 that games optimized to take advantage of said hardware began to show up. Meaning stuff that looked as good as Model 3 cabinet games, on home hardware, didn’t show up for ~ five years. I can’t recall another single system that delivered so much 3d shock & awe in one generation. The Model 3, from the moment it landed in 96, was the benchmark everyone was measuring themselves against for almost half a decade.
En la segunda mitad de los 90 el Model 3 era gráficamente superior a todo lo que se conocía hasta entonces. El Virtua Striker 2 fue realmente increíble, toda su exquisitez visual fue muy avanzada para 1997.
The controls look twitchy only because OP's mapped the inputs to a keyboard so no analog. I haven't played too many of the games on the list but Daytona 2 and Scud Race Plus have far smoother controls.
The licensed ones are absolutely no-go, the one with better chance is probably Lost World... Star Wars is the least I will ever think since... Disney...

Why oh why doesn't Sega release all of these on the Xbox Series X and PS5. They absolutely have the technical muscle to run every single game here full out. I would buy this collection for both 9th generation consoles the day it dropped.
En 1996 las arcades estaban mas avanzadas que las consolas, considerando que el N64 y el PS1 no podian mostrar estos graficos 3D mas pulidos de las arcades, yo tenia el ps1 y se veian los juegos todos cuadrados deformes

nice games! try playing these games with an analog controller, daytona 2 and the other driving games work also great with a steering wheel, such as g27-g29, t-300, etc...or a gamepad with analog.
They can't due to lots of re-licensing issues on soundtracks, brandings etc. They would have to change a lot to the original game, not to mention even if they managed to get the license (which will cost a lot) I'm not sure they will get back what they have invested in. Given it's just a re-release of old arcade games in the eyes of the public, the targeted userbase will be much smaller than a modern game. Meaning they might as well spend the licensing money on modern game titles. This is called the opportunity cost.
I got sick and tired of arcades being better than home consoles. It's about time things are the way they are now. Except what I've noticed is there is less quality gaming at home now. I miss the good old days and A+ gaming!
Xbox 360 level graphics in 1996, Sega were always 10 years ahead in the arcades at least to anything you could have at home. It's no wonder that since both Sega and the arcade scene in general has died a death, that we've seen next to no innovation or technological leaps in the last 18 or so years. Games have definitely gotten prettier, don't get me wrong, but the advancement just hasn't been at the same rate and certainly not from a gameplay point of view. These Sega arcades gave developers something to chase back in the day, but without that measuring stick, you get stagnation and complacency. So glad I was born Gen X.
Wow, I didn't realize the state of model 3 emulation has come this far. I can finally play Lost World and Star Wars again as well as check out others like Ocean Hunter 'cause F sharks.
SEGA really needs to put these out on a greatest hits, compilation disc or something, I've had ENOUGH of them pushing there SEGA Genesis/Mega Drive stuff left and right, and not just from multiple platforms, but multiple generations of consoles...it's about time they start releasing stuff here in the states atleast as far as there arcade catalog starting with there "super scaler" games (Space Harrier, After Burner etc) there Model 1, 2, and offcoarse 3...what's the hold up?!..enough Genesis already!!!

Why oh why doesn't Sega release all of these on the Xbox Series X and PS5. They absolutely have the technical muscle to run every single game here full out. I would buy this collection for both 9th generation consoles the day it dropped.
awesome video
Ah, those old racers... the faster you go, the more it seems that your car is having an epileptic seizure.
U wanna smoke sum CRAK?
nice games! try playing these games with an analog controller, daytona 2 and the other driving games work also great with a steering wheel, such as g27-g29, t-300, etc...or a gamepad with analog.
have u tried thee?? Ive got a G920.... didnt know these emulators suported these controllers.... any ideas for config?? ?
For the love of everything Sega please release and Arcade collection..
4:00 - so that's what's going on when you operate inside the ambulance on Surgeon Simulator...
4:27 that patient in the back is about to get paid once his lawyers get word
The other ambulance drove right into the ocean after cutting over the grass and the sidewalk! 😂😂😂
So glad I was born Gen X.
back when Sega could get any licence
I emulate a handful of these games. Sega Rally 2 is my favorite model 3 game.
Wow, I didn't realize the state of model 3 emulation has come this far. I can finally play Lost World and Star Wars again as well as check out others like Ocean Hunter 'cause F sharks.
those Model 3 stuff was the Rolls Royce of real time 3D back then, even the Vodoo and Nvidia was not able to do that until 2001 !!!
Yeah! I mean I love the Genesis but c'mon! That was not the only system and games they made. Why they only remember the Genesis?
@@virtualpellot933 because the original people at Sega left now there's a bunch of modernist Dill weeds
Man I wish I could go back in time best days ever going to my local arcade place spending my parents hard earn cash having a smoke while playing drunk 😵
The lost world: Jurassic Park was one of the best arcade games ever. I remember playing it so many times with my sister. It was tough as nails but so much fun. I can't remember how many times we failed to save that Triceratops... But the first time we saved it was a huge victory.
I hope they rerelease this game someday. Just no bullshit always-on infinite credits.
Agreed.
Why we got Daytona USA 2001 instead of Daytona 2 on the Dreamcast is a mystery that baffles me to this day
I don't know why, but when I looked at the arcade games' posters online, they share the same "blur" effect. Like the Star Wars Trilogy Arcade, Sega Rally 2, and LA Machineguns.
13:41 - Thomas The Tank Engine easter egg.
My kingdom if Sega released these - no changes needed - on Ps5 or Xbox One. The games look great and fun.
Good old games
I still want to play Virtua Fighter 3.
Increible calidad gráfica con mucha personalidad, colores muy vivos creo que mejores que un xbox de la epoca
esto es de 1998, XBOX no existia aun
