i love how this video is talking about people who love fashion but do not need to come from a privileged family. Yet it contradicts when Kane talks about how many internships he's had and how they were unpaid. If you come from a family that is not wealthy how do you afford working for free?? Fashion is about luxury and luxury equals money and that's just the sad truth.

The fashion industry is worth 20+ billion but all the money goes to the top positions, [super]models and celebrities and rarely trickles downs. People who work in fashion are so poorly paid, especially in the big cities where the cost of living is extortionate - London, New York, Paris and Milan. You are not paid proportionally to what you need to survive. Unfortunately, that is what their market rate is worth and what makes fashion such a difficult career path to choose whether it's designing and creative or head office. It's also one of the few career paths where luck and who you know is a more important factor than in other industries, not just hard work.

Chill dude, if you are good you get the job, even if you know noone...
People who really get the big money are people who don't care about the money, they do their jobs with love of the job, and not because they want the money... What you say is just self-contradiction, and untrue...

Hello, my name is Delfina I'm a 15 years old girl from Argentina and I dont really know if someone will take the time to read this but this video made me emotional in so many contexts because for me, fashion is the biggest way to express yourself even when words aren't enough. Just like Alexa said earlier, my parents are not supportive of me following anything related to this beautiful world as a career and it pains me so much because it is everything I really want 100% for sure in life. I would love to put my hands in work and create colored feelings and magical trends but I dont know how to strart to, and I'm also at the age where most of the important people of this industry started *which scares me to death*, + study abroad is my dream and I'd love to know if someone with enough experience could tell me some colleges around the world with a good way of teaching in this matter. Alexa, if you happen to read this *fingers crossed* you are my Jane Birkin and I truly adore you.
    thank you, Delfina x

+Rem Winks That's true and I hate to be that overly-pessimistic person but in order to show that you are talented or passionate about your work you need a platform to showcase it first, and in fashion it's really tough to have that platform if you don't have a lot of contacts or come from a wealthy background. I think we have to thank social media for making it easier to get your name out there but it's still tough if you don't "mess with the right crowd".

      Unapologetically Ambitious by Shellye Archambaeu.
although she writes about becoming a business owner, the main juice is how she did that.
And that technique can be used for every type of carreer path, whether Fashion designer, Writer, or anything else creative!
I believe you all can achieve your dreams, even if the odds are stacked against you. You are the one who can create your own luck and power, you just have to believe in yourself, plan and take action.

+lobby boy Exactly, it's damaging to present this idea that you can exist on nothing, the reality is most people would be homeless! Unfortunately once you leave university you still need to intern and the only way to do this is to be supported by your parents. If you don't have this support you have to take any job just to continue living. It's difficult enough for students that live at home let alone those that have moved out.

This is so spectacular! I'm already getting the vibe that these videos will be the ones I'll be showing all those who ask me if I've gone crazy for studying journalism related to the fashion industry.
As I've seen, it's crucial that the audience addresses the matters they wish to be responded, so here are my questions:
Have you seen "The True Cost"? If so, how were the repercussions in the fashion industry? What plans does the fashion industry (the British, in particular) has when it comes to production, both materials and human resources?
I believe the world can keep getting outstanding art through fashion, but we can all contribute to it being a more responsible matter.

You should have someone (Alexa Chung) come and have look at the Oslo National Academy of the Arts. We have the best fashion and costume design edjucation in Norway. And the school has the best workshop space in all of Europe.
    Tremendous students as well!

They should have continued this series following Alexa through the creation of her brand. It would have been so insightful.
