Here I love the last part "There is a really common idea that dressing well is just for special occasions but to that all I can say is that life is an occasion and every day can be meaningful if you just dress like it".
I have just graduated high school going to college this fall. I’m also an introvert myself and being told that I need to join clubs and make connections with my peers is the scariest thing ever. I’ll give fashion a try, hope it helps boost my confidence. This is very inspiring to me.
@@whoppersaldana7378 I'm going through a similar phase as well. Just this past month, I completely changed my look and decided to take fashion seriously. Now, I'm not going to college. But I am in the film industry in LA. And so I also have to go to meetings, mixers, events to make connections with people. And it has helped me tremendously. It gave me more confidence, yes. And people were more open to approaching me. Soon, I starting taking care of how I look and express myself. It became a new positive behavior I developed. Which leads me to my next point: The biggest advice I can give you is start with Identity shift. Having more confidence involves changing your deep sub-conscious identity and learning new behaviors and habits. There's a book called Atomic Habits by James Clear which I highly recommend!
I have so many outfits I am saving for an event that's never coming! I'm definitely going to start wearing them because waking up today is reason enough to celebrate 🥰
So true, I love that we are using clothing pieces as reminders to be the best versions of ourselves and to more boldly embody traits we want to see in ourselves :)
I really admire her for the passion that comes across in this speech. This is one strong and opinionated woman. She's inspirational, no doubt about that.
This year I was reinventing myself, and the things I started with where my wardrobe and my haircut. It definitely helped me to feel more myself, be brave to stand out and gave me the impulse to change my decisions in other areas of life.💪
This influences how fashion is viewed, worn, and experienced. Fashion indicates your style and who you are. Maria Raveendrans voice and words shows that fasion is your personality. It is who you are and how u look towards people.
I'm a year younger than her and recently got into fashion that works and speaks for who I truly am. As an introvert I've always had trouble with self-confidence and self-expression and one of the most subtle way I'd say I can change those aspects of ke would be through fashion and dressing. Whenever I wear a certain piece of clothing or a colour I'd feel more motivated and good in my skin, with pressures of body image and what not I thought why not dive deep into how to play with silhouettes and designs that can bring out the best in me and make me feel more confident in myself? So I did, I've been doing research on my own, be it online or reading books and watching these Ted talks (which btw was pretty inspirational, she's really admirable and relatable) and I've come a lot closer to my personal identity and how I wish to be seen by the world, the way I present myself is in my control and it's as simple as dressing up in the morning in that one pair of pants I absolutely love and the way I wing my eyeliner. It gives me a boost of confidence and authenticity and in return I recieve recognition. Although my insecurities still surface from time to time and my imposter syndrome gets in the way and tries to sabotage my goals, I pick up my favourite lipstick and brush it away bcz when I feel confident I am confident and I know when I'm confident in who I am I can achieve what I set my mind to ❤️🐾
I love the idea of seeing outfits as lab coats. I always felt guilty putting attention in my outfits. Whereas I've actually just been expressing myself and wanted to boost some of my personality traits. Loved this talk. And... can't believe she is 10 ten years younger than me !! I hope this means there a lots more 20 yo that are as wise as her :)
I like your abundance mentality & how you want everyone to be great, rather than being insecure and feeling intuitively scarce that if more of 20 yo are wise & smart.. you don’t feel threatened or slighted by it. Infact you want them to be
This is great. I love that she referenced an actual study. I spend my life researching and working on new concepts buts I really wish I understood why people love fashion. I just don’t “get it”. This talk gave me a lot to think about. I would love to dive deeper into the thought and learn how I can improve my mental productivity through things such as clothing.
A K everyday things such as your mood for example can be expressed through the use of different colours or your music taste can influence your style too it all depends
I’m really shy and introverted. So it’s hard for me to express myself verbally. And I’m not really good at physical activity such as sports and dancing. So unless someone is my friend or just close to me, they won’t really know me. Basically fashion is the only way I can express myself without actually talking to anyone.
@@leocheng6947 do you think fashion should also be expressed by the weather and the area your in, because whenever i look outside and i see its a nice day i like to imagine what I'd wear and how it would make me feel.
@@mihir5846 Well, "On average, adults aged 25-34 are likely to spend approximately $161 a month on their wardrobe", meaning that the budget is there, but people opt quantity over quality. "In a recent survey from ClosetMaid, the average American woman has 103 items in her closet", do we really need that many cheap clothes? No. Choosing for fewer, but higher quality items is a possibility on the same budget. Because clothes are so cheap, people don't think twice about buying a cheap item, while they might not even like it and maybe not even wear it at all (that seems like a waste of money and resources!)
I wish I could like this video for a thousand times. The part that she talks about Steve Jobs etc. is important because on so many motivation accounts on social media, or in the interviews of great authors and scientists you can see that, this is the true thing to do. Not caring yourself. Minimizing the "humanish needings" and just working harder. But as she says, you are way more productive when you feel happy and confident. This is important for me because I want to be a scientist; and in order to be successful, I even thought of not to exercise and do my skincare. This is horrible. Of course I changed my mind but thinking that for even just a little moment shows us how badly we are affected by this whole productivity thing. And I know I am not alone. Anyways, guys let's exercise and dress up nicely and work on the things we want to achieve. Have a good day!
I am currently preparing for a tough exam....and tbh proper dieting and exercise is helping me out so much...initially my family was against this as they though dieting now will make me weaker and i will fall sick...but it is the opposite...so you go girl...❤️
My significant other always been telling me that your clothes do not make who you are, that YOU can make the clothes, that is your personality within what can make them look cool or uncool. I grew up in a family of the fashion industry, and to me fashion has always been special, my mother however always told me that make up is not there to hide who you are but to enhace what you have and make the best of it. I believe there is a balance, clothes help inspire from outside to inside who we want to become, but we also have the power to enhace those clothes infusing them with attitude and confidence. In my case, I really like extravagant very eccentric clothing, but in my path, i have learnt that indeed, they need tons of confidence to not look silly in avant garde clothes, lol. This talk really motivated me to go and pick the clothes that will make me feel like a better whatever I am.
I used to have bad anxiety and I couldn't even go to school. The only way I dared to go outside was just when I was wearing suits and the most extra outfits. They were and still are my armour that gives me confidence and happiness. This changed the way I saw myself and how others perceived me. I am now the most confident person ever and it's because of my personal style.
This was so utterly fantastic, what a concept. So inspired by this and happy that such an upbeat and joyous young person is given a platform to encourage us all to reach for a better form of ourselves.

Thank you Maria for your beautiful story!
