Dwight is a guitar master. He's got so many good tunes and he can LIGHT UP a guitar. Check these out: "Fast as You", "Streets of Bakersfield" (a Buck Owens cover), "Guitars, Cadillacs", Honky Tonk Man, and THE MOST ripping riff EVER played on a country album, "Long White Cadillac".
Fast as you and Guitars and Cadillacs. I forgot about them. Man I used to put his greatest hits on to clean house it was so awesome. I got to see him in concert and the way he holds his guitar while he plays makes the women go crazy lol. He’s a legend with his guitar.

Dwight is from California, he’s one of the most underrated country talents. Catalog is great. Wonderful actor also. He played the mom’s boyfriend in Sling Blade.I sang Dixie is my personal favorite of his.
that high treble sound is part of what's called the Bakersfield sound popularized by Merle Haggard and Dwight's good friend Buck Owens back in the late 60s and 70s
this song is basically a guy who dates two sisters at different times, the big sister first, then the little sister and he's telling little sister not to break his heart like her big sister did.
Dwight is definitely a living legend. His back to basics Honky Tonk sound was a breath of fresh air when he debuted in the 80's compared to the stale sounds being produced by Music Row at the time. 'Guitars and Cadillacs' is a great song and introductory album but his album 'This Time' is one of the best country albums ever produced which explains it's triple platinum status. Personally my favorite album of his is his 'Buenas Noches from a Lonely Room' which has some of his best work like 'I sang Dixie, Floyd County and One More Name'. That album also has 'Fast as You' and my personal favorite 'What I Don't Know'... "What I don't know might not hurt me If I stay dumb and no one tells But if I find out that you've been cheatin' What I don't know might get you killed"
My little old Italian grandma from New York loved her some Conway Twitty which I never could understand until I found out that my Grandpa from Detroit was actually born and raised in Nashville. I've heard tell that the ladies used to toss their unmentionables up on the stage when Conway was singing and from my grannies swooning over him I'd bet that's likely true lol
Actually, Dwight Yoakum is from the Pikeville, KY area. He was in the movie “Slingblade” with Billy Bob Thornton. That song was what’s known as the Bakersfield sound made popular by Buck Owens.
Guys this is a cover of a song that was a pretty big song for Elvis. It is indeed about a guy whose girlfriend is dating everybody and he decides to try his luck with her younger sister. Dwight has a huge book of great songs and has also done several movies as an actor. try his songs Honky Tonk Man, Smoke along the track, Readin Writin and Route 23 for a starter. Oh and he is originally from Ky.
Dwight is an artist that is a must go down rabbit hole! Unique, great music! Just that simple! A truly great experience is: Buenas Noches from a LonelyRoom/She Wore a Red Dress

Yes, Dwight is from Kentucky and grew up in a coal mining family. He tends to go up at the end of his notes and leave some twang in there, which is reminiscent of the hillbilly music he grew up with. Dwight was really the face of the reemergence of country into the pop charts in California. He often jokes about being the only modern-day (at the time) classic country/honky tonk singer out on the West Coast. The West Coast electric sound clearly is a big staple in his music (especially his later incorporation of steel guitar, which sounds different in California than Nashville) and is something that the folks in Nashville didn’t quite hammer down yet. As for this song, yes, he dated a girl who ended up running around with a bunch of other guys, so he decides to pursue her little sister. Dwight was actually in a movie called “Painted Cowboy” where he played a rodeo clown, so I’m not surprised he decided to incorporate some of that into this video. He’s very theatrical, if you watch his later videos that veer away from the honky tonk scene. (He plays bigger roles, like in “Slingblade” and “Panic Room”, and usually plays a bad guy.) His grandmother played a big role in raising him, and he often studied the dictionary with her. Dude is a walking thesaurus. This is the first video I’ve seen of y’all, so I’m not sure if you’ve done more of his music, but definitely check out “The Heart That You Own”, “Sorry You Asked?”, and “These Arms” (which features Vince Vaughn, who is a huge Dwight fan) if you want to see his more theatrical and poetic songs!

I think that the only thing Keith was right on is that Dwight is from Kentucky. But he is technically part of the Bakersfield CA branch of Country Music.
Boys, don't be woke. This is an Elvis classic that basically was about two sisters, but related to Elvis or Dwight in this case, that the older sister ran around, but he wanted to see if the younger sister was not as loose.
Great reaction guys.. I much prefer Elvis's version of this song. Try "Thousand Miles from Nowhere" , he's got a unique voice that not everyone will like, but that's ok too.
Dwight was a huge fan of Elvis and Buck Owens. His version of Suspicious Minds is a great cover. For another style of Dwight, could also check out Fast As You.
Dwight Yoakam was my first concert when I was in 5th grade when he was touring his first record . At my local high school across the road from where he grew up Pike Floyd Holler in Betsy Layne Kentucky. ....the lead guitar is his lead guitarist Pete Anderson
@@BourbonCountryReacts Pete Anderson is a terrific guitar player. If you want to see him truly in action, watch his second solo in Yoakam's live video for "Please, Please Baby": ruclips.net/video/lQJotWtUibQ/видео.html I'm a drummer and not a guitar player, so I can't speak to Anderson's technical skills. I only know that his style and riffs brought something unique to country radio and made Yoakam sound unique from other artists. He also produced all of Yoakam's albums from the beginning of his career in the mid-80s up through the early 2000s, which was Yoakam's most prolific period with tons of hits.
Dwight is Bakerfield Sound California. Along with Buck Owens created the sound. Though he's more rockabilly. Dwight and Buck were definitely honky tonk singers also. Dwight does a good Elvis "Suspicions " "Thousand miles from nowhere", so many good ones. He's also done some good acting. Basically what I got. Big sister went on a date slipped out on him with someone else. This is a cover of Elvis. Dwight actually is good at covering Elvis. I think his strengths are honky tonk blues, and Rockabilly.

To answer your question Dwight Yoakam is from Bakersfield California and Dustin is correct on the meaning of the song the song is about the guy that dated the older sister she cheated on him so he tried the younger one it was originally an Elvis Presley song as far as Dwight Yoakam songs I would recommend thousand miles from nowhere and guitars Cadillacs and he has one other good cover call Streets of Bakersfield which he does with the original singer Buck Owens who is also from Bakersfield California and a old country singer
OMG! I'm dying. I knew this was going to throw you for a minute. I think it does that to everyone. And yes, he dated the big sister and then the little sister, which weren't his sisters. At least that's always been my understanding. Or hell, maybe they are both his sisters. 'How Do You Like Me Now' by Toby Keith, the official video because it is funny as hell. Also by Toby, 'You Shouldn't Kiss Me Like This' and again, the official video to get the fully story. It is a really great song. 'Queen Of My Doublewide Trailer' by Sammy Kershaw. A singer who is seriously underrated. He has a lot of great songs. 'Ships That Don't Come In' by Joe Diffie. 'You Got To Stand For Something' Arron Tippin.
I can assure you, when this song came out we(his fans) loved the sound and didn't really look closely at the lyrics....other than we knew it wasn't HIS sister...
Dwight is good. But bad to start with an original ELVIS song the first time you listen to him. I also agree with Guitars and Cadillacs. And yes, it is about the younger sister of the sister he had dated. It's an old Elvis song.
Dwight is the Bakersfield sound out of California. Check out his song with the late Buck Owens "Streets of Bakersfield". Good actor also. It was hard to get past those jeans back in the day. 😁 Yes, Dwight was born in Kentucky. I think he grew up in Ohio I believe. I can hear his "Guitars, Cadillacs" song.
Pikeville KY to be exact Keith! There’s a live video on Keith Urban’s YT of Keith, Dwight, and Brothers Osborne playing Dwight’s Fast As You - awesome guitar of course. Y’all need to check it out. And, by chance did you ever see Slingblade with Billy Bob Thornton ? Dwight played the evil Doyle!!
Elvis cover. He did a cover of Suspicious minds too. (was off a soundtrack that was all Elvis covers.) I'd still prefer Dwight's 1000 miles from nowhere. And yeah, honky tonk style of music.
Pete Anderson was playing on electric guitar. Brent Mason is another great guitarist. Dwight also does some acting. He played Doyle Hargrove in Slingblade. Well worth a watch.
Don’t talk about Dwight now .. he’s still known for wearing the tightest jeans in country music .. he’s also an actor.. he was the bad guy in Sling Blade .. did y’all watch that one ??
My Mama thought he was sexy. Daddy would just roll his eyes. She said he was from Kentucky and she was convinced she'd dated his Grandpa. Mama was a Grandma 19 times when she was swooning over Dwight. She was hilarious all the time and that was no different.
If you turn your TV to syfy now crank is on now depending on where you are Dwight Yoakum is the doctor BTW I'm in south carolina you know time difference
"Mmmhmm I like mustard on my patators" I see Dwight now and all I see is Slingblade... the song is good but my favorite will always be I sang Dixie. The song is about him talking to the little sister of a girl he dated. Her older sister was mean and evil, he's tired of the older sister and her games, he likes the younger sister but wants to make sure she isn't like her older sister. The sisters are NOT related to Dwight. I think when he roped that girl in the end it was him metaphorically "roping her in".
Dwight has some great music like 'Fast as you' & 'Suspicious Minds' along with several others. He plays pretty good guitar & has also has acted in several movies, like 'Sling Blade'. And for some gossip, years ago he dated actress Sharon Stone & when they split, she said he was like 'kissing a dirt sandwich'. Bwahahahah
I vote for you to add his rendition of “Run, Run, Rudolph” to your holiday playlist. It’s the one that goes on my upbeat rockin’ holiday playlist…it goes like this… 1. Bruce Springsteen - Santa Claus is coming to town 2. Brenda Lee - Rockin Around The Christmas Tree 3. Garth Brooks - all of them lol. For real his holiday albums are wonderful but here I would put “It’s the most wonderful time of the year” but that second album was just upbeat, big band awesome. 4. Alabama - All of them again :) but for here we will put “Christmas In Dixie” 5. Kenny Chesney - All I Want for Christmas Is a Real Good Tan. Check out his Christmas in Dixie also as it is an awesome cover. 6. George Strait - Christmas Cookies 7. Laurie Morgan - Sleigh Ride 8. Dolly Parton - Hard Candy Christmas. A little sad and a lot sweet. Could be higher on my list and makes get nostalgic for my WV family and hard candy. Many years making it with my mom and family at the holidays to give away. And the smiles on peoples faces when they got it were priceless. Looked forward to it every year. 9. Martina McBride - O Holy Night. You want to hear her pipes check that one out. I think it’s the BEST song to showcase them. 10. Wynonna & Kenny Rogers - Mary Did you Know. So many more but I’ll stop at 10.
Yea...he was dating the older sister and she did him wrong,,,,so he was eyeing the little sister. I love Dwight...got some great songs....check out some other ones. Great fun reaction

This is Rock-A-Billy …. This song was actually an Elvis song … Dwight did a cover along with others on this song .

My favorite song by him was “I sang Dixie”
Great reaction, Dwight is an acquired taste...that I never acquired, but yall are hilarious.
Its been a while since we've seen it, but I added a vote for Fast As You -Dustin
Great suggestion! Fast as You is a fun side of Dwight's Bakersfield/Rockabilly style.
Elvis cover. He did a cover of Suspicious minds too. (was off a soundtrack that was all Elvis covers.) I'd still prefer Dwight's 1000 miles from nowhere. And yeah, honky tonk style of music.

ERIC CHURCH "STICK THAT IN YOUR COUNTRY SONG"
Got it!
You two are always good for making me laugh. Thx!!
lol, thanks for watching. - Keith
Pete Anderson was playing on electric guitar. Brent Mason is another great guitarist.
Dwight also does some acting. He played Doyle Hargrove in Slingblade. Well worth a watch.
Dwights remake of Suspicious Minds is great.
Bakersfield sound. Texas fun. I remember getting calf roped once when I was 25 living in Dallas. Mmm. Good fun
That's type of country music is called Bakersfield music it's the same kind that Buck Owens played
I love dip he is great
it is about two sisters the oldest did him wrong and he hope the other wouldn't
Don’t talk about Dwight now .. he’s still known for wearing the tightest jeans in country music .. he’s also an actor.. he was the bad guy in Sling Blade .. did y’all watch that one ??
It's called Rock-a-billy! Dwight's sound
You can never go wrong with Dwight.
Though if you really want to kick it up...Dwight and Buck.
Dwight is from Kentucky but he moved to Bakersfield,Ca and learn the Bakersfield country sound from Buck Owens
You guys need to hear his song, Fast as You. It's great.
Added that vote
Elvis also sang this song
I am not a big fan of Dwight so yes I would love to hear some Dio. Lol btw this is a cover of a Elvis song.
Keith, that relationship stuff is a West Virginia thang...at least that's always been the joke that us true Hoosiers know. Sorry, dude.
My Mama thought he was sexy. Daddy would just roll his eyes. She said he was from Kentucky and she was convinced she'd dated his Grandpa. Mama was a Grandma 19 times when she was swooning over Dwight. She was hilarious all the time and that was no different.
LOL, go Grandma! - Keith
If you've ever watched the movie sling blade you might recognize Dwight as the guy that played Doyle.
I've watched it, but it's been forever. Really don't remember. - Keith
Dwight Yoakum is from Pikeville Kentucky
I like the symbolism :) -Dustin
Good bourbon coming from Texas
Dwight has some great music like 'Fast as you' & 'Suspicious Minds' along with several others. He plays pretty good guitar & has also has acted in several movies, like 'Sling Blade'. And for some gossip, years ago he dated actress Sharon Stone & when they split, she said he was like 'kissing a dirt sandwich'. Bwahahahah

I vote for you to add his rendition of “Run, Run, Rudolph” to your holiday playlist. It’s the one that goes on my upbeat rockin’ holiday playlist…it goes like this…
1. Bruce Springsteen - Santa Claus is coming to town
2. Brenda Lee - Rockin Around The Christmas Tree
3. Garth Brooks - all of them lol. For real his holiday albums are wonderful but here I would put “It’s the most wonderful time of the year” but that second album was just upbeat, big band awesome.
4. Alabama - All of them again :) but for here we will put “Christmas In Dixie”
5. Kenny Chesney - All I Want for Christmas Is a Real Good Tan. Check out his Christmas in Dixie also as it is an awesome cover.
6. George Strait - Christmas Cookies
7. Laurie Morgan - Sleigh Ride
Thanks!
You definitely need to check out “Streets of Bakersfield” with Buck Owens. So much fun.
Originally an Elvis Presley song.
Nothing like a little bondage in a country video
I think Pete Anderson is playing guitar on this song.
He has a lot of good songs, my personal favorite is "I Sang Dixie"

Not sure I heard a ton of Buck Owens in that. But I wasn't listening for it. I'll watch it again and listen for that this time. - Keith
