Guys, this was written by the amazing satirist/writer Shel Silverstein, who also wrote a song Bobby recorded called The Winner (good for a chuckle too) and he also wrote Cash's Boy Named Sue.
Thank you so much! I grew up listening to Bobby Bare. He can be extremely funny! I’m so glad you are touching on the classics as much as the current ones. Thank you again.
Love Y'all from Louisiana. 😆 You need to hear Red Sovine "Teddy Bear." I don't drink so I still can't suggest a good one for you. I sure do enjoy watching you hear songs I grew up listening to.
Bobby Bare was great back in the day - he basically "discovered" Waylon Jennings singing in a dance hall in Texas!!!! He also recorded "500 miles" & - " Detroit" and the ever-popular "Drop Kick Me Jesus(through the Goal Post of Life) !!!! He was a 70's star!!!
Before I even watch the video, I know this is going to be awesome. I saw Bobby Bare in Monterey, CA back in 83/84 at a little club. He is hilarious and I'm excited to see how you guys like him and react. Love seeing the OG's on your channel. True country/comedy right here!
Too funny! I love this song. Shel Silverstein wrote the best story songs. I was in Kuwait in 2012 during Mardi Gras and worked with a Guard unit out of New Orleans. They built a float and we had a party without alcohol. They had a female Sgt Major that belted out Marie Laveu and we all sang along. It was a hoot. I grew up with Mum's 45 but I'd never heard it sung in a group setting like that. Have you done Johnny Cash, A Boy Named Sue?
Oh, that's an old favorite for me! Thanks so much for playing it. If you get a chance, search for a fan-made video of this song. It's title is "Music Video by CC Productions"...it's hilarious!
This is a deep rabbit hole and he's certainly an OG in my limited exposure to his music. The first time I heard Bobby Bare he was singing "Detroit City" in 1963 I believe. He has a huge amount of music and I and most is good I hear. Great choice Debra if he was your choice. Honestly the Who and the rest of the British Invasion got in the way of my roots! Hank brought me back and I'm jumping into this Bare hole with both feet. This BCR channel is a hoot and I like the reactions of people finding America's music again! I'll likely stay current with this channel and I'm watching all of the reviews I've missed now. Your Music & Bourbon choice has got Dustin & Keith in an entertaining mood to say the least. Thanks! The Amelas One
The winner is a great song my father was born in 1922 so went through the great depression in his childhood and served in the south pacific as a udt diver doing salvage and diffusing underwater mines and boobytraps he had a tremendous grin but you didn't seeit often but this song would always pull it out
Bobby Bare knows how to tell a story. I like this song. But if y'all go down to New Orleans and run into Marie Laveau, RUN she died in the 1880s. 😂 Her tomb is the most visited in any cemetery. She was a scarey voodoo preistess. Damn that bourbon is a beautiful amber color and that cinnamon means a nice smooth flavor to me. And it's Friday, y'all are allowed to be 12.
Loved your reaction to Bobby Bare! You should listen to his songs Praise the Lord and send me the money and The Jogger. I think you would enjoy both of them
A Shel Silverstein song. The man was a genius. Drew pen and ink sketches for Playboy, wrote several books for kids, including The Giving Tree and wrote a ton of country songs.
Gettin' buzzed on free alcohol while listening to legendary country music? That's what you call livin'. This song is a bit like Eddy Raven and Jerry Reed songs. They told a lot of fun stories that always had fun endings.
There are so many OGs with funny songs really hard to pick. Another OG with funny songs you should check out Jerry Reed. Two of my favorites are, She got the gold mine I got the shaft and Mr. Ford. Johnny Cash Flushed from the Bathroom of your heart. For more of Bobby Bare I would suggest I never went to bed with an ugly woman. If you want the king of OG I suggest Hank Williams Sr. Move it on over.
I love that song. Idk if yall have done Big Iron by Marty Robbins, country western song thats a classic in my opinion. Love these story telling songs and country does them so well
Yet another great story from country music. To keep that going, have a listen to "I Watched it All on My Radio" by Lionel Cartwright. It takes me back to my childhood. Keep up the great videos, guys!
Some OG Female songs you should listen to: Patsy Cline Crazy; Loretta Lynn Coal Miner's Daughter, Louisiana Woman Mississippi Man, or Country Bumpkin both with Conway Twitty; and Dolly Parton Coat of Many Colors, 9-5, or Why'd ya come in here looking like that?; The Judds Turn It Loose, Grampa, or Love can Build a Bridge
If you like this one you should listen to The Winner, another of Bobby Bare’s songs written by Shel Silverstein. Funny as hell as a young buck challenges the local badass to a fight in a bar one night.
Bobby Bare recorded a version of the Tom T Hall song "Homecoming". Either version is great. To my ear, it speaks subtly about how we try to present out best face to out folks when we go about our own way and do our own thing but don't want to rock the boat with the people who maintain expectations of us. Sorry for rambling.
Immature warning: I don't think I have ever seen a video of anyone talking about the taste of .... I have this on vinyl. Bobby has a lot of humor in his music.
Handsome Jack's plan was NOT well-thought-out.I love the Bare; his songs often contained humorous elements, and he recorded several songs written by Shel Silverstein. Some of his best are 'The Winner,' 'Greasy Grit Gravy' and 'Streets of Baltimore.' I like his version of 'Sylvia's Mother' more than Dr Hook's, and his version of 'Me And Bobby McGee is one of the best.
You should really react to Johnny Cash cover of Nine inch Nails "Hurt" His wife June Carter the love of his life, shown in the video died 3 months after the release of the album. He died 4 months after her.. Amazing Amazing video.
We're both super familiar with that, and we try to keep our reactions "first time." So, likely the only way that one gets on the channel is via a bourbon bribe. - Keith

That bourbon name would have gone really well with another of his songs --- "The Winner" --- However, I tip my hat to the gal who sent ya that with the one eyed snake line

Just saying this for anyone that doesn't know, Marie Laveau is a real person
Was, not is.. I think she has long been dead.
This song was written by Shel Silverson (the one Where the Sidewalk ends) . Marie Laveu was a voodoo queen around the end of the 19th century.
