I've been carrying Benchmade knives every day for the past 6 years. I won't even bother looking into any other brand. Pricey but worth every penny. Great video, as always.
I have carried a kershaw cryo for many years having no problems until yesterday when the kids(14 and 17) decided they needed to use it to pry apart a piece of wood and snapped the tip. I have never owned a benchmade nor did I think I ever would because I was one of those guys who said a $40 is just as good as a $300 knife. I thought I would just buy another cryo but my father in law started talking about knife steels and different manufacturers, so he decides to show me his benchmade 710 and I gotta say that thing was beat to hell but still deployed like a dream and the blade was still super sharp. He said that he has had the knife since it came in 98 or 99. To make a long story short he recommended I try a griptilian or the 940-1 osborne and I should have both in about 2 days.
Had a Kershaw I thought was excellent. Then a friend gave me a new Benchmade. Kershaw has been in my day pack ever since. Benchmade is my #1 always with me never stays home daily carry. A knife I actually love. Good one Sootch00.
Great review! I have been carrying my 940-1 since the week it was released... A few months now and I am blown away! I kinda bought it to just collect and I can not stop carrying it... It has replaced my previous 2 favorite edc's manix 2lw and my knockout... I have used almost every type of steel and have never had any of them even come close to how well this s90v holds an edge... Checked it just now and it's still shaving my arm hair lol. Any way I am rambling now but spot on review! Best edc knife out by far!
@sootch00 I have always love your reviews Sir. You are straight to the point, no BS. I own a few Benchmade myself. Every time I need to watch a review on a product, I always look for yours first.
I'm continually amazed that of all the hundred or so George W.'s, people assume I'm the real one. I mean really, does the real George W even know how to answer his emails by himself?
I love the 940 been my favorite edc for a couple years now. I can't wait to pick this -1 up, it is one hot knife. Just a quick note, the 940 does not have a cut out to get to thumb stud, the scales are identical. Just nitpicking. Keep up the good work!
Hey sootch, I have bought two recent things based on your reviews. This and the reactor watch (gryphon). I love them both and your opinion rocks man. The knife has so much more traction in my fat sweaty paws than I would have thought. Great edc
Thanks Man, great review! It makes me want to go out & get one. I like GG.com too, bought a fire piston from them a while back and they have great Customer Service.
I like the 940-1 but I still can't get over the ends of those screws showing on the inside of the scales. I should not have to go out and find my own screws that are shorter to replace the originals on a $300 knife. I definitely do love the look of the new 484-1 Nakamura. I can see myself going for one of those for sure.
Great video, sootch00! I've had a Benchmade 710 in my front pocket very nearly every day since 98 or so. Great knife - clipped to my pocket it disappears, but is always there when I need it. I can't imagine using any locking mechanism other than the AXIS. (The 710 was the first knife to feature the AXIS lock, fwiw) After all these years and constant use - the G10 grips look like new and the mechanism/action is still as strong, tight, and smooth as the day I purchased it. Benchmade is expensive - but they will outlast any number of cheaper alternatives. You might find this funny... I started working in Oregon City four+ years ago approx. 1/2 mile from the Benchmade factory. First weeks there I contacted Benchmade - told them I wouldn't go a day w/out my knife - could I just stop by for a cleaning/sharpening? They said sure! Four years later... I still haven't found/made the time to stop in. Maybe next week... Thank-you, Sootch!!
God that's a beauty. I'll own one some day; I have a Triage and love it. I don't quite understand why they didn't put some actual useful gimping on it if they're re-releasing/upgrading it, though.
I'm sure it's a very nice knife but if i was going to spend that much in my low income world i would add 40 bucks and get me a Canik TP-9 instead. Great videos Sootch, keep'em coming.
My gf tells me I have expensive hobbies.. high end knives, guns, dirt bikes and sharpening equipment for my high end knives.. reloading for my expensive shooting hobby. I have the sickness
Sanrenmu, makes for kershaw crkt, spyderco, and more. I paid 11$ for mine. Imo better than anything in its price bracket. Better than any knife under 50 bucks with an American badge on it
I like their knives a lot. I however cannot afford them. I think it's a great review but in my humble opinion I would rather buy Esee avispa price: about $30.00 (which is a pocket folding knife), Schrade scaxe2L price: about $38.00 (it's an axe), Morakniv bushcraft carbon black price: about $45.00 (fixed blade), Bushcraft parang machete price: about $44.00, Schrade Schkm1 large price: about $34.00 (machete, think Book of Eli) and Condor Kukri 13 inch price: about $52.00 for the same cost as the Benchmade 940-1. If I could afford it though, I would get the knife. I however live on a budget so would rather get all these items for the same price as just one knife. In my opinion of course. Thanks Sootch.
Updated. I thought I would mention the fact that you get what you pay for with this knife. I by no means dislike these knives. They are extremely well made. I just have a hard time spending so much for a pocket knife.
I couldn't in good consciousness put a knife of that social status and cost through what I've put my current knives through. Had two $40 knives that one was snapped, the other lost to the water on a fishing trip, and my current $15 knife has been with me for 6 years and it has been through hell and back and will still cut like a razor. Don't need a "gentleman's knife". Just impractical
To those of you who may not be able to afford this beautiful piece of heaven, buy from bass pro shop. Price match an online store and use the 4 month pay option no interest
Great video, thanks a lot! I may be wrong but isn't carbon fiber stronger the aluminum? I mean I thought that's why it's is in super cars and used in junction with other metals like titanium by the military and Nasa. I know it has strong tensile strength but if I'm wrong I'm sure someone will let me know. Otherwise, this is the "perfect" EDC as he said because the handle (carbon fiber) and blade (CPM SV90) are ultra premium. Bummer it's costs $270ish. It's worth it in my opinion so, I'm excited because I just bought one on Amazon! :D
The materials are nice and the design is thoughtful for sure, but Benchmade has had some major quality control issues in the past few years. Just look at 6:53 in the video to see the liner screws protruding into the blade cavity. This wouldn't be a huge problem but Benchmade also trouble centering blades. Now I know that Benchmade has a great warranty and if you send it in, they will center the blade and maybe even grind down the screws but for the money they are charging, why not save everyone some hassle and do it right the first time and not rely on customers not caring enough to send it back in?
Hi, sootch, - Belt Clips - I hear people say they are essential, but I find they make great ergonomic handles, unergonomic... would love a couple of your thoughts if you don't mind?
I agree. My Kershaw Blur does an excellent job as an EDC knife and only cost $35 shipped. I couldn't see carrying around a $265 knife just to cut open boxes and packages which is what an EDC knife does 90% of the time.
***** More power to them for those who carry them. The fact is an EDC knife is rarely used for anything other than opening packages and small tasks. To me it's a "look what I got." type of knife. My Blur is well constructed and has been used to open packages up to cutting down small tree limbs (with the serrated section) and is as tight as the day I bought it. I won't put down anyone carrying an expensive knife, but there's a certain price point when the knife is more for showing off than anything. I'd bet that some of those guys that carry $1000 knives have a secondary knife on them to do the everyday cutting tasks. It may be mid-range for some, but not many. Most of the EDC pictures and vids I see have people carrying knives in the $20-$150 range.
A lot of people would say that about nicer guns, watches, phones, cars, etc. It's all based around your likes and dislikes. That's cheap compared to others hobbies.
I like Benchmade designs, but the fit-n-finish & materials used do not meet their price points. Especially, compared to ZT or Spyderco American & Taiwanese made knives.
I've always been a spyderco guy and recently ordered a sage 1 that I've been wanting to buy for a long time and ordered a benchmade 940 along with it to see what all the fuss was about.I absolutely love everything about this knife. My only complaint is the texture of the aluminum handle and that's just my pain in my ass OCD Mind fuck problem. I can't stand this dry feeling I get in my hands which the only way I can try to describe it into words is my hands and everything i touch feel the way dry paper or cardboard feel and my body gets that fingers on a chalk board reaction when I get it. If I have that going on when I go to grab the handle I spaz out. It's not the knifes fault but my own defect. Worse in fool dry weather as opposed to heat and sweaty palms. So now I will have to drop the cash on the same knife with carbon fiber. I love this knife so much that tube next round of knives are going to be mostly benchmades. Don't get me wrong j still ove my spyderco's but my eyes have been opened for sure
+pjmd3 just my opinion, but the 940/940-1 is the best Benchmade. I would recommend visiting a knife store, or check out a knife/gun show. Best way to find out which knives really suit you. This can save you a ton of money.
MJ Kimm I just picked one up from Cabelas and it doesn't have blade play. They had 3 in Stock and all three had no blade play, but the other two did not have perfect blade centering
Good knife, but a little too much salesmanship: 'Get it at Going Gear' wink wink, nudge nudge. 'They have great prices. Use the Sootch code.' People are watching this for an objective review on the knife, not a sales pitch on where to buy it.
jamesmbutler pocket knifes and swiss army knifes are legal, but folders like this one are illegal. The total length of the knife can only be 20cm long when unfolded, butterfly knifes are illegal also, they are considered a lethal weapon.
Not a benchmade fan at all, bought one as a gift for someone, and the packaging has gotten much better. I personally think that if I'm spending over $250 for a knife, it warrants decent packaging. Bought a brand new strider and won't ever buy one again for the sole fact that it comes in a plastic bag. No card, no contact info...at least spyderco uses a box. I got a AdV pocket butcher and it was $267 shipped to my home and it's the best packaging I've ever received a knife in. Pure class.
Try saving instead. It will be worth it in the long run. Check out the Rat 1 & 2, Buck Advantage, Kershaw Skyline, Leek, Blur, Cyro G10 & CQC (Kershaw Guy.com has good prices) and Spyderco Tenacious in the meantime.

Watch out, knife collecting is contagious. Sounds like you have the fever.
Love the music! Awesome knife. And also haters gonna hate sootch00
I have used almost every type of steel and have never had any of them even come close to how well this s90v holds an edge... one of my favorites! so light and compact.
@sootch00 I have always love your reviews Sir. You are straight to the point, no BS. I own a few Benchmade myself. Every time I need to watch a review on a product, I always look for yours first.
Very well done review. The original 940 is my EDC. I have a mini grip as well, some Spydercos and a few others but I keep coming back to the 940.
I just found something to put on my wishlist for Christmas.
Well you did start a war
The chosen 1 People start wars. Get over it.
The chosen 1 So Santa will get him a knife for Christmas because he started a war? If that's the case then I gotta go do some... stuff.
Caleb Whittington War, rabble rabble rabble... As Caleb said, get over it.
I'm continually amazed that of all the hundred or so George W.'s, people assume I'm the real one. I mean really, does the real George W even know how to answer his emails by himself?
No question about it, THIS IS THE BEST EVER, YOU TUBE INTRO! EXCELLENT! And I like the knife too.
940-1 definitely on my want list for sure. Enjoyed your review sootch
Thanks for review.
I have a Benchmade myself and the wife loves them. Though I typically prefer the edge and point on my Delicas.
the knife looks amazing, and the carbon fier grip makes it look even better!
You should make a "Poor College student EDC" video xD This knife is SWEET but expensive. Nice intro, best one so far ;)
I'm still rocking a gerber paraframe from like 5 years ago. Still doing its job, though. Wish I had this one (too bad I'm a poor college student).
Lol yup I'm in the same boat here. Would love to get a benchmade but that won't happen until I finish up school.
***** I LOVE CRKT knives. m16-14dsfg ftw !!!!
I was like this looks awesome clicks on amazon types it in and was like yupp not for me
deadcrazzy What ? The m16 knife ? Kershaw are the bomb too ! Lots of good options out there !
Now this guy is a true American
Your music choices just crack me up.

Chriskelly19067 Thanks Brother~ Good to hear.
I really love that blade the reverse tanto is awesome
Thanks for the review and discount...just ordered one.
That scar is gnarly sootch! I wear my scars like badges
such a beautiful knife and such a great quality video. always happy when i see a Sootch00/ Sensible prepper video in my sub box :).
Thanks Man, great review! It makes me want to go out & get one. I like GG.com too, bought a fire piston from them a while back and they have great Customer Service.
absolutely gorgeous knife

I agree, so I refused to pay retail and bought one for just over $200 on Ebay. Did you manage to source shorter replacement screws?
Just got a used one on ebay for $165 i cant wait for mail call. Nice review.
Great video, sootch00!

Thank-you, Sootch!!
Beautiful knife. Love benchmades.
"Trips my trigger" Love it I am going to steal that. Lol
I have been eyeing this. It might be the perfect EDC.
Great review sootch!
Awesome knife for sure. For a similar feel at a lower cost I've found that I really like G10 type handles.
I've wanted one for sooo long
God that's a beauty. I'll own one some day; I have a Triage and love it.

She may be right, if it comes to it, dump her and keep your hobbies. No offense, just some old man advice and, as always, your mileage may vary.
@@Billman66 lol shes gone for good now buddy.
I like Benchmade, but I love ZOG Knives!
Love my Fatcat.
Got mine new on cyber monday for $160... arguably the best money I've ever spent.
Sanrenmu, makes for kershaw crkt, spyderco, and more. I paid 11$ for mine. Imo better than anything in its price bracket. Better than any knife under 50 bucks with an American badge on it
Congrats on the 800th
Great review. Expensive, but worth it for such a nice piece.
I've had a 940 for several years, it's a good EDC blade.
I'd like them to use actual jimping, its my only real criticism.
great knife
I like their knives a lot. I however cannot afford them. Great, great knifes!!!!!
What job does Sootch hold to allow him the time to pump out so many high quality videos?
hell yeah! i cant wait! also shared
The reviews, the music, the out-takes! Excellent. Thanks. Which track from Jungle Punks?
Nice I have an Adamas and I love it

Hello From New Zealand Sootch ! Any chance of you reviewing a Swedish Mauser in the future ? Gota love those Milsurps
The materials are nice and the design is thoughtful for sure, but Benchmade has had some major quality control issues in the past few years. Would you ever review the Sebenza 21? That would be a video id like to see from you.
Do you still own this knife? Is the only folding knife that I like, I just don't like any other and i tried many. do you carry it for edc?
Beautiful blade but which leg did you cut off to get it?
love my Benchmade's
wish they would've put that nice parkerized clip on the regular 940 instead of the crappy black paint
what is your opinion on this knife as an self defense/tactical blade?
Sorry I have to say the carbon fiber and 90v steel still makes the 940-1 the best
The Osborne is a good folder.
You said that lock is "proprietary" to Benchmade......SOG has a very similar lock....how are the two different?
Hi, sootch, - Belt Clips - I hear people say they are essential, but I find they make great ergonomic handles, unergonomic... would love a couple of your thoughts if you don't mind?
cold steel code 4 great EDC
Checked out 5 benchmades today. 3 had blade play. Call me picky but for the price I don't know how they get away with it..
I am sure its a very good knife but 263 dollars is way to much to pay for something that is so easy to loose.
I only paid $150 for my 940 Osborne on MoonTrail.com
I agree. My Kershaw Blur does an excellent job as an EDC knife and only cost $35 shipped. I couldn't see carrying around a $265 knife just to cut open boxes and packages which is what an EDC knife does 90% of the time.

UnitCrane514 only $150? haha
Nakanokalronin same thing as a $100,000.00 two seat BMW. I'm rich (in debt up to my eyes) but your not.
It is an awesome knife but How can you spend that much on a pocketknife buddy?
Bemchmade Lifesharp is free now no more 10$ fee anymore.
isnt the box from a chinese knock off?
That's a great knife, but way too much money for every day carry knife.
I saw two at a store today for one fifty
A $17.00 ganzo has better fit and finish then the benchmade crooked river that I just got !!!
If that had lightning strike carbon fiber I would become a prostitute just to get it!
all 940s have a little blade play even customer service guy said the same thing.
MJ Kimm I just picked one up from Cabelas and it doesn't have blade play. They had 3 in Stock and all three had no blade play, but the other two did not have perfect blade centering
Your "review" ran more like a commercial.
SOG!!!
Good knife, but a little too much salesmanship: 'Get it at Going Gear' wink wink, nudge nudge. 'They have great prices. Use the Sootch code.' People are watching this for an objective review on the knife, not a sales pitch on where to buy it.
Just got the clone for ( $66.00) .
$255.00 on Amazon
too bad these are illegal in holland :( looks like i'm immigrating :)
if you hurry our southern border is still wide open for at least a little more than 2 years.
Pocket knives are illegal in Holland?? Why is that?
jamesmbutler pocket knifes and swiss army knifes are legal, but folders like this one are illegal. The total length of the knife can only be 20cm long when unfolded, butterfly knifes are illegal also, they are considered a lethal weapon.
jamesmbutler oh and knives with a double edged blade are illegal also, lots of complicated laws here :(
Premium product, premium price but they still ship them in shitty packaging.
Pure class.
Uhmm that's a fake benchmade box...which probably means that's a fake benchmade....
I've got find some poor people channel's.
