I haven't carried my 940-1 for at least a year, I got the polished deep carry clip for it. Think I'll dust it off and take it to work tonight. My first "real" knife purchase was a regular 940 that someone decided they needed it more than I did
I have carried a 940 for three years love it. Yes it is overpriced but like you said about the warranty. I cheated on that though I have bought a mini crooked River. It’s a little thicker and fills out the hand a little better
It took me like 6 knives in the S90v/s110v steels to figure out how to sharpen them. But one you properly do.... it is the finest stainless steel available for knives. It holds a FINE edge very long. Cuts super aggressive. Just awesome stuff. I thought M390 was the king but gotta say S90v outperforms it. This particular model is perfection. Wouldn’t change a thing going about it. Not many knives out there I can say that about. Makes it worth the ridiculous price. Maybe the best example of a modern edc pocket knife.
What was your co semis as to the proper sharpening? i’ve found a toothier edge using diamond stones or emulsion works best and doesn’t weaken the substrate metal around the harder monocarbides to create chipping. I’ve seen other users get a great looking mirror polish with a fine slicy edge but instantly dull or round over very quickly after use because of this.
Just got mine today and the fit and finish was perfect. Centered, check, symmetric grind, check, No blade movement, check, free falling pivot, check (I just had to oil it a tiny bit), smooth axis lock, check (however, if I snap open blade from a partial open position the lock really sticks and its hard to even move the axis lock - a bit of lube eased it off a bit though). I have the 565-1 that I purchased a few weeks ago but I have to say, I like the 940-1 a lot better. Both are really good but the 940 is narrower and lighter by a smidge. I put a deep carry clip on it and a mini deep on the 565-1. Had I purchased the 940-1 first I would not have bought the 565-1. I just didn’t think I’d like the 940 blade, but in person, it’s just awesome. The satin finish is darker and appears more stone washed than the finish on the 565-1 blade as well. I’m also kind of glad they didn’t go with a blue thumb stud like they did with the red one on the 565-1, even though I really like it on the 565-1.Thanks for your review which helped me spend money I shouldn’t have 😂
I've been in a couple stores and some benchmade knives and perfect and some are terrible. I got a griptilian and didn't notice that the centering was really bad and alot of side to side play. Took it back to store and got a different one. And it was perfect flawless.
the bugout clip works great on there too. they sent me several of the ones you have in silver and black and then later I asked if the bugout clip would work and they sent me 3 and then 3 more like they didn't realize they already sent some.
Love my 940 called and got more clips then I have a use for took them all off put them away. i’m green and purple was one of the dominant Lemans victories the Jaguar was British racing green the numbers were purple
I have been looking around for weeks for this knife mainly because of your reviews and finally pulled the trigger today. I got it brand new at a B&M for $230 which I figured was about as good a price i would ever find. I checked it over and the blade centering and grind looked perfect. I already called Benchmade and they are sending me 2 deep carry pocket clips. The other is for my Griptilian I bought recently. I need to stop watching your channel for awhile. I ordered a few knives from WMK that I am waiting to recieve. Got the pilar large, the civivi backlash, and a Spyderco delica 4. At least I got your 10% off there! Lol! Love your reviews. Thanks for making me broke!
They also have a split arrow clip, and the deep carry in stainless. The one that came with it appears parkerized. On my OD green Grip with a black blade it looks good, but I prefer the deep carry.
I would love to get the SMKW exclusive 940 but I'm not paying what they want for it. I have the g-10/S30v model and it's good but SMKW IS INSANE for what they want
I know I'm 10 months late but I saw this comment and I'm currently seriously considering getting the SMKW 940. Surprisingly, it's still available. $323 is ridiculous for sure, but after owning the 940-1 I'm willing to pay it haha
Terrific "EDC" knife at 2.3 oz....if you can afford the price :) And having a CF/S90V knife makes you happy....weight and dimensions matter for EDC. Even if a large knife like a ZT at almost 6 oz is still doable (in a jacket pocket...
S90V is just an astonishing steel. Love it a lot. I must have looked at this knife a million times, and would probably give one a try if not for that price tag! Phew!! Great vid as usual dude!
As I said... I had REI coupons and a gift card I had to spend. $193 out the door with tax and everything. I couldn't pass that up. I can keep it for a long term review and still make a couple bucks.
Spot on review. Hands down my best knife. If I were to put my collection down in front of anyone, they could identify it as the highest quality/materials. It does carry phenomenally. I have a front flipper mod on my they makes it even more fidgetable. I have a local knife store with rediculous prices (in a good way). I paid $225. The best looking version I have seen so far was the Cabela's exclusive. It looks fantastic with a wood(ish) bolster. Unfortunately, it's nearly $300 and D2. I've never had a D2 knife, but I'm not paying $300 for a D2 knife- period.
Love that knife... Hey by the way not sure if u care or not but Blade HQ has the Kershaw Link with M390 steel back in stock for like 82$ shipped not sure how long they'll last but just a heads up.
I was actually considering getting a 940 this week. Ended up going with a ZT instead. No idea why. Just appealed to me. might end up picking a 940 sometime this year. Heard too much good to not go for it
Slicey Dicey yeah I can imagine. I feel like that sometimes as well. You hear so much good about the 940 and PM2, (Which I love) you kinda just need to at least check them out. I'm sure one day I'll get my hands on one. I can't help myself lmao
Great review and I cant think.of anything you missed.ive never tried to sharpen the s90 but its just metal right tool and maybe a bit more time.atb paddy👍☺🍀
The 940 design is fantastic. I just wish they were A BIT cheaper and QC was a bit better. I did forget to mention that the balance is also SUPERB and point out the thumb studs that I bet we rarely use but work well.
I just bought this knife to see what all the hubub was about regarding the 940. I get it. This thing just feels like quality. Edit: so it's been a month and a half I wandered back to this comment. I might be like Paddy. I haven't bought another knife since getting this. Edit 2: lol back after a year and a half... still never bought another knife
Nice review... i was able to pick my 940-1 from my local store that ordered in error.. sold it to me for $200. New in the box 👍👍👍👍 i have 3 issues with mine.. centering is a bit off.. the pivot came way to tight.. and the screws for the scales protrude way through into the knife.. was curious if your screws were a bit long?? And if so do you feel that is an issue for a knife that retails for $305 from benchmade???? Love your reviews and podcast.. 👍👍👍👍
Huh... Yeah... The screws do stick through! I never even noticed that. Looking at old photos, my last 940 did also. Not pretty, I guess but they don't effect anything. My pivot tightness and centering were both pretty much spot on. My old 940 was a tick smoother out of the box but after a few dozen flicks, this one loosened up nicely. (And no one pays retail.) As I said, it's overpriced for sure, but I don't think it's OBSCENELY overpriced. No moreso than some of the higher-end Spydercos. (Not exactly a compliment.)
Slicey Dicey i guess i have watched to much shabazz. 🤣🤣 im becoming a knife snob... if they are going to offer a knife at that price then it should be darn near perfect.. that said.. it's a great blade. Mine is not leaving.. and i fully support my American companies.. Go Benchmade!!
15:06 Viper Belone👊👌💪 But it doesn't have thumbstuds and an axis-lock and isn't quite as tough🤔 Ah well, that leaves us reason enough to have them both🤗
Deep carry PAINTED clip < Standard Black Oxide I feel you know knives and have been around long enough. Do you simply not care how fast that new clip will ugly up? I'm a fairly gentle user and mine always scratched quickly. I have the black oxide (Pakerized?) clips one every BM I have, love them. I also feel the standard clip is stronger resisting bend out and attaches with a 3rd screw.
@@sgtgrantham The painted clip has been hung from your pocket for nearly three decades (~10,000 days) and still cannot be distinguished from a new one? Absolutely stunning and encroaching upon unbelievable. Still, I dare not call you a liar. I will leave you with this... Once is a fluke, twice is coincidence, three times is a pattern. The pattern is the painted clips show wear notably faster than the black oxide ones. Still, glad yours looks new.
