    I would disregard comments suggesting that this is a clone or recommending the clone. I imagine they are working to advertise for the criminal enterprises that sell the garbage. They try to make legitimate sounding comparisons to imply that there are minimal quality differences between the real and the garbage thus giving one the impression that the genuine one is overpriced. I'm just happy that tariffs may be placed on all chinese imports so we can avoid this kind of garbage from washing ashore.

      I would take off your tinfoil hat sir. My comment was only merely looking out for you and giving you awareness that there are pretty convincing clones out there. You should check to make sure that you weren't jipped or taken advantaged of. I am in fact against the Chinese clones so I have no clue where your thought process came from.

    • @jonr9581
      @jonr9581  6 лет назад +2

      If you are not advertising clones, then my message is not directed at you. It is aimed at those advertising clones in the comment section. Mine is not a clone. If it were, I am sure benchmade would have noticed when i sent it in for service. Furthermore, I purchased it from a local authorized retailer which basically reduces the chance of receiving clone to 0%. On top of all of that, having a strong familiarity with the product is your best defense. This is my final word on the topic. Thanks for watching.

      There is a ridge line on the blade that starts around the thumb stud and tapers down and somewhat goes behind the carbon fiber, dead give away of an authentic 940-1! Plus the blue studs and tightness of carbon fiber... definitely an authentic benchmade

    After watching and drooling many reviews of this knife for over 3 years, I finally bought one. I should have it early next week. I feel like a 12 year old at Christmas. It was your review that finally wore me down. I absolutely had to have this blade for EDC. It was on my bucket list. I will be 70 next year. I still haven't grown up... I don't really care. LOL!

      @@curtwilliams6655 you're going to LOVE IT! I just got mine about6 months ago & couldn't be happier. It never leaves my pocket &I feel naked without it lol. I use it at work, everyday use, opening packages, cutting cardboard, I get board& whittle sticks &it keeps going. Definitely the best knife I've ever owned. The action is so smooth, it's like a fidget spinner. I flipped it open and closed all day for about 2 weeks lol. A pro tip tho, the factory edge is really rough. Sharp, but rough. Find a reputable sharpening service & get a good polished edge put on it for about $15. Or invest in a wicked edge or lansky. I think I went with 18° or 20° for a good broad edge &to not be to thin with a micro bevel about 2 degrees thinner for a razor sharp cut. Took it down to 5000 grit & finished with a leather strop for a mirror polish, SCARY SHARP! Haven't touched a stone since. Just strop on a good piece of leather glued to a flat board & 5000 grit rubbing compound (not polishing compound) rubbed into the leather every so often maintains a razor edge. Hope this serves you well & congrats

    I've got six Benchmade's including two 940's. The Achilles Heel of all the Axis lock range is the weak Omega spring. I'm in the UK and had to send one of my 940's back to Benchmade twice in one year despite very gentle, occasional use. The Benchmade warranty system is flawless though, and despite the Atlantic ocean being in the way, I got it back within six weeks each time with continued email updates regarding progress. By the way, I agree with you about the ergonomics of the standard pocket clip. Great review - thanks for posting.

    I use the deep carry clip on my 940s and, often, carry them in my shirt pocket. Though this is not the best at piercing or slicing, it does everything reasonably well while having a strong point. I have not broken any Omega springs, though people raise that as a concern.

    Hey, thanks for your review. I just got one of these and I was thinking to replace the clip with one of those split arrow clips . I’ve got one on a mini grip and I’ve always liked the way it looks with that clip. But after what you said about the bigger spoon clip, I’m going to leave that on there. I’m sure it will wear well with age maybe having that bit more of surface area will you better in the pocket retention and getting it out. I also don’t really understand the fascination with the deep clips. I like to have a good knife so that I can have something to grasp. Also, I don’t like how the pants pocket grabs on the screw heads with those deep carry clips.

    I've had mine for a little longer. It doesn't get carried very much. It's a great knife for sure, but there are so many. My wife and I mostly carry a Sebenza 21 or the 781. The 940-1 was my first venture into really expensive. While it doesn't get the most action, it will always be part of my collection. My only gripe is the blade heavy nature. The knife kind of wants to fall out of your hand. 9.5/10 An upgrade to a true folding knife classic. Solid carbon fiber, s90v, great action, light weight, timeless looks and much more!!!

    • @jonr9581
      @jonr9581  6 лет назад

      I agree that the 940-1 has a lot going for it. I haven't a problem with the blade weight. I do however wish tha the blade was ground thinner for better slicing performance. I have yet to experience a sebenza in real life. I almost bought one sight-unseen online, but I opted for the 940-1 after being shown it at a local retail store. It hit all the marks for me, though at the time, i thought the looks were kind of funky.

    I have the exact same knife. As for benchmade knives in general I have a few issues with them. First and foremost is the price. Benchmade knives are always substantially more than a comparable Spyderco. Second, benchmade has some quality control issues. Many that I have had have had terribly centered blades and also terrible grinds. Finally, I have an issue with the axis lock. Don’t get me wrong, it is a very functional and fun to use locking mechanism, however the omega springs that are an essential part of the axis lock have a tendency to just break. Yes, benchmade will replace them for no cost, but the inconvenience is there. One springs in my 940-1 broke after about 3 or four months of normal use. It wasn’t even my edc. I would use maybe 3 times a week. It took about 2 weeks in total from the day I sent my knife in to the day I got it back in the mail.

      I went with about 20° so it would be durable & a micro bevel about 2° thinner. Other than that, a mirror polish. Go super fine on the final grit like 3000 or more & finish with leather strop with super fine rubbing compound or jewelers rouge rubbed into it. Invest in a wicked edge & you'll get unbelievable results. Hope this helps

    • @jarrettvoyzey9893
      @jarrettvoyzey9893 3 года назад

      @@Jp-md3ir what this guy said 100%. The Wicked Edge will make this steel incredibly sharp. Make sure you get diamond stones as well as you will get no where fast with ceramic stones. I’d grind for HOURS on Spyderco ceramic stones and it would get “sharp” and you could cut with it, but it would never shave nor slice as smoothly as I’d want it to. Granted I’ve never been a great freehand sharpener. As far as the price is concerned it’s absolutely worth the price tag. $350 and you can sharpen all your knives with ease and not worry about ruining the blade or stones.
