Oh and by the way, YOU'RE WELCOME.
An additional fun fact: there was a special train just for white people! I don't know when it started and when it ended but I have color slides of the inside of the 7:48 express put in at Willets Point in 1981or 82. The fully graffitied train would come in lite around 7:45 from the yard lead and provide a seat to all the park and riders coming from Queens and Nassau north shore communities, which back then were lily european white. Asians then all lived in walking distance to Main Street. Also the few months that the express skipped 61st to help better balance loads between local and express trains in fact lasted around 18 to 24 months. I lived at 82nd Street and ALWAYS took that to Junction, but you had to arrive at a stairway or you would likely miss the next local back to 82nd. Once I might even have exited directly to the inbound platform from between cars to make that connection.
People also should remember that the Flushing Line felt special in that it was the last to be hit bad with graffitti and the first to get rid of it (1985). Also the pilot IRT train with retrofit air conditioning was a repainted blue and cream train (aka Bluebird) in 1975. The conversion was done in a temporary shop set up on the LIRR side of the fence at Corona Yard (Shea Stadium LIRR). For a long time after the whole Flushing fleet was graffitied, the A/C train was kept clean. Mayor Beame rode that train to a photo op at Flushing Municipal Field #1 to announce plans for a new bus terminal. He lost the election to Ed Koch and the bus terminal was cancelled (probably for the better in hindsight). The Pope also rode the clean A/C train to FMCPark as well. I'm pretty sure they lost the battle to keep it clean well before the crash program to paint every car white in '81-'82, which mostly stayed white until the overhaul to become redibirds in '84-'85 (unlike mainline white cars that did not stay clean for long).
When the WF cars were ordered, thus enabling 11 car consists, the el stations were all painted the same or similar blue AND the Steinway tube walls were white washed. In the 70s and 80s if a train stopped in the tunnel and you looked hard you would see remnants of it under all the steel dust.
Around 1977, little posts with the letter C were added about a train length past some/many platforms and other down hill locations. Motormen were to shut off the controller and coast to the next station, to save electricity. Many motormen ignored that shit and the signs eventually were removed. Some larger sized C signs were around (I think the IND) from much earlier times, but they were rare and ignored.
And another cool memory was the ride into Queensboro upper on the double deck curve. First of all the catwalk on the outer side of the track ended near the beginning of the ramp up. Next came the curve, and guess what, NO TIMER! The curve is a bit more graceful than it feels, and while you cant go as fast as on the curve approaching Rawson (33rd), you could take it at maybe 25 MPH. I witnessed multiple people at that front window exclaim fear to their friend. In fact, there was a great deal of stress imposed on the el structure there. You would feel this stress at an el station where it would longitudinally wiggle back and forth, as a wave of energy arrived from a train stopping up to three stations away came to a halt. The effect was more pronounced at Court House Square (also no timers anywhere until approaching the portal) since it is on a short straight section with less vertical members to absorb the energy. I saw them do a structural integrity measurement test using a train loaded with spare train wheels on the middle track. It would run and then apply brakes in emergency to test the extent of shaking of the structure. Nonetheless it took some years to see a timer appear at the far end of the curve into Queensboro upper. It was just a single lunar white under red that didn't force you to slow down until the first two cars were already around the curve. Sometime in the 1990s the catwalk was added to now be on both sides of the ramp as well. The last two decades have seen a lot of railfan fun disappear, that's for sure.
HOLYSHIT
TRUE
How long did that take to write?
trainluvr that is some good information on the 7
That sounds so racist.
“The 7 is carrying the entire world” makes sense because there are 7 continents around the world
I never thought it like that
4:51 As a Mexican American who been on the 7 train when I go to Queens. It true because I see Mexican (and other etc) Hispanic and Asian and black on Every 7 trains
Awesome! & remember to stay strong and keep on keeping on!
At Queensboro Plaza there was once a connection to the IRT Second Ave Line which lead to the IRT Main Line. After the Second Ave El closed, the connection was lost.
The 7 train was the very first train I ever rode on New York's subway. I remember my very first trip to New York City in June of 2015. After landing at LaGuardia, I took the Q72 bus to Junction Blvd where I picked up an R188 7 train, & rode it to midtown Manhattan. it was my first experience riding the subway in New York.
The 7 train was also the very first train I rode.
I think the very first train i rode was either the pre-2010 W train or the 5 train.
I used to take it from Times Square or 5th Avenue Bryant Park to Flushing Main Street. Can't remember what year, but it was also all R62A's at that time. I was so confused when I first saw NTT on the 7
MY FAVORITE LINE IS FINALLY REVIEWED! Thank you for reviewing these lines and improving my knowledge of the system 24/7.
PS: They have recently reconsidered the NJ extension.
David Ng wait they did?
@@brayand8022 Back in February 2018.
This is da best review of all tyme. The 7 is literally my nigga because the cultures, food, the best stops like queensboro plaza & times square. Honestly my favorite plus the saddest part was the redbirds. Not gotta lie the fuckyng best but people like me as a child has never step foot in that train before & that made me sad a little because it died before the new generation. The only train that I ride for the 1st & last tyme was the R142 slant on the B line. But Basically thank you for the memories, the support, & our generation that makes the 7 the john cena of trains.
God bless you

Brings back so many memories! This was usually my route to go back home after going wherever in NYC.
Knuckles and crew, thanks so, so much!!!
You damn right I would talk about the Redbird R33WF & R36WF on the 7. Lol when I was a kid, I remember when they had beige with orange doors in the interior and fox red on the exterior with their number boards on the lower part of their car bodies.
Same well kinda lol I remember buts here and there as I was a kid then
This review is iconic as the same as the 7 train review itself. In fact this review is fire

Sudek Dean GO TO SLEEP!
Waited for the review and the super express is also in operation during US Open games due to it being across the corona yard & Stengel depot on the South side. Also it serves 61st & 69th street for Asians going to Woodside but the R188 converts R142As do have problems 7352 or 7348 broken stripmap lit from 52nd street to 42nd street Times Square July 2015, low ac 7474 January 2016 and bucking trucks 7311 due to the converts being used on the east side line local
I practically shat my pants when I saw this in my feed I was so excited
emag02 LMFAO!!
Amazing line and amazing review! The (7) is LITTTTTT, especially when it flies down the middle track with R188s.
Respect

You guys should do a review on the F (present day), L, and maybe the PATH trains. Maybe even do the T when it begins service around the 2020’s...
good job on the review of IRT's only line in Queens.
The 7: The Scrappy Doo of IRT! Too tough to be in Brooklyn and Bronx
Do the 9 and N train reviews next please
Oh so satisfying!
Very awesome revirew (7) train.
I don’t want it to extend the flushing line to NJ cuz cross state railroads in the US is not that good and might make the (7) and the not a good train line.
I was an infant when the Redbirds retired, and even I rode them before they left!
Nicely done man
You Know Knuckles, The 1 Thing That Sonic And Jet Forgot To Mention Was The New York Auto Show At The Jacob Javits Center! I Can't Believe That They Forgot About The New York Auto Show!
I remember riding the r62 7 train. I'd take the 7 from 34th street to link up to the N and W to go to queens.

@@windowsmeproductionsalt9403 I'm talking about it in general kid
The 7 also goes to The Bronx to Yankee Stadium for the subway series when the yanks play at home and the 4 also goes to Queens for the subway series when the mets are home
Dude you got it mixed up
@@mtanyctfan8100Meaning the 7 goes with the 4 to The Bronx during the home subway series at yankee stadium and then what I believe the 4 goes with the 7 to Queens during their share of the subway series games, these are very rare to see a 4 train in Queens since they only serve the 7 line, but also the 7 comes up to The Bronx on the day the Yankees are at home for the subway series games I’ve seen it happen when the 4 train borrowed a few R188s on the 7 line when I was at the Subway Series game on June 13th of this year at Citi Field and the 2000 Subway Series games at Yankee Stadium but the MTA still does The Bronx Subway Series games with the 4 and 7 trains at Yankee Stadium during these games at all times until the end of the series, luckily when I saw the end of the Subway Series games in mid June of this year I saw the last 4 train leaving Mets-Willets Point and when I was at the 2022 Subway Series games I saw the final 7 train leaving 161st Street-Yankee Stadium and heading out of The Bronx down to Manhattan terminating at Grand Central since they were going back to Queens and return to their normal schedule and the 4 trains returned to their normal schedules after both final subway series games
How can o found the first theme

Alan Ramirez There are still R142As on the 4 lines. In fact, all 220 R142As that were unconverted are all assigned there to displace some R142s to the 2/5
