This is my all time favorite comfort food. I can’t think of another dish with as few ingredients that has as much flavor. I grew up eating it with rice instead of burghul but started cooking it with burghul about 10 years ago and love it. You are so right that it is best cold. When I make it, which is very often, I will refrigerate it and not eat any until the next day. Sahtain!
Fantastic! This is the only version I know and you can never find anyone making it this way online. Thank you, I'm really looking forward to making it.
I discovered this dish a year ago from Blanche Araj Shaheen. She uses rice in her recipe. I need to find the correct cracked wheat so I can try this one. Thanks for sharing the recipe, can't wait to try it! Also, your garden looks great!
Thank you so much for sharing this recipe! It was absolutely delicious and hearty. I split half the recipe and left it original and the other half I did with the handheld mixer to cream it. To be honest, I didn’t have a favorite because my family devoured them both! I put aside a little for day two and you’re right, it is very good cold and the flavor of the onions was very present but not overpowering. I was wondering, instead of water, can I use a vegetable stock?
The Lebanese people in US taught me this recipe, but they put less lentils and more bulgur and then they fry again onions and serve it on top of the dish. Looks like this is more the original version.
This looks so delicious. Did I miss how much lentils you used here? It looks like several pounds or cups. I don’t want to overpower the delicious onions, but I want to make plenty. Thanks!
Awesome! Loved it!! Thank you!!

I’ve always added the fried onions at the end of cooking the mujaddara. I will try it this way, In’shaa Allah. Thank you

This should be one pound.

Thank you!
What are the ratios of burgul to lentils to onions please?
1/3 cup of bulgar to 1 pound of lentils and 2 medium onions.
I've never seen this version of mjadara.
I hope you like it! Let me know how it goes if you tried it!
