@@blanchetv I will tell them all how much I love your cookbook!!
Hello, my sister who was married to a Lebanese man taught me an alternative method. She first fried the onions which she removed from the pan when caramelized then added the lentils and rice in the same dish she cooked the onions in. This method gives a great flavour to the lentils and rice instead of just cooked in water.
Great method as well!
Thank you so much. I am originally from Venezuela and I remember my Lebanese neighbors preparing this delicious dish to share it with us. I had forgotten how to do it. I prepared it and tasted heaven. Thank you again. Beautiful memories came to me while eating :D
So glad to hear that! Funny enough my mother spend her whole childhood in Venezuela! ;)
Please continue sharing the love, food and culture of the peace loving Palestinian people. You both are gorgeous .
Thank you both for giving out instructions and not just talking to fill up airspace. Comments like adding parsley to the salad, using bulghur instead of rice, lightly stirring in the fried onions to avoid mashing the rice, etc. were informative.
I’m at this yesterday for the first time for dinner. I am visually impaired, 42 years old, African-American I’m learning levantine Arabic right now and I really enjoyed your videos this is an amazing dish to eat and to make and it doesn’t cost a lot to make either.
Thanks so much for trying this, yes for about 10 dollars you can feed a lot of people with this dish without sacrificing flavor. Welcome to the channel, you are in the right place for this type of cuisine! ;)
Nafisa, I just want to say thank you for the time and effort you put into these videos. I am american and my husband palistinian. My mother in law is from Lebanon and a VERY GOOD COOK. For twenty years being married my cooking has always been compared to hers. Never was my food good enough, but now that I am watching your videos I am gaining confidence and learning all kinds of details you pay attention to explain. My husband and family are very impressed with my improvement. Thank You.
You made my day--that is exactly why I do these videos, to empower people and give them confidence! So glad to hear your cooking is getting positive attention, hope you subscribe to get all my new recipes--happy cooking! ;)
I came across your channel a few days ago. I really enjoy your videos, along with your beautiful mom. I am Christian middle eastern as well, I'm Assyrian born and raised in Germany. Hi from Ecuador. I just did your recipe for mom and me. it came out delicious. I did it with four onions and they weren't enough! So delicious! thank you!
Lovely, and I remember my mother preparing it when I was little. I was born in Cairo ,Egypt and we had to leave in 1956, my family came to the uk. Very long story, but i am now in my mid seventies and I am going by memory and how I remember the look and the taste of how things tasted and looked at Especially the food mum and grandma cooked both of Italian background but Egyptian food the best and a great variety….
Thank you.
Love that you shared your vivid memory. Thanks for watching!
In Iraq we have it with yogurt. Found your channel yesterday, been binge watching. More vegan recipes please, especially veganized middle eastern food

In Lebanon we also eat it with Laban hahaha
Love mjadarra. Palestinian here, we always have mjadarra with salata, Laban (yogurt) and of course olives from Palestine. So simple, so good.

So sweet, daughter and mom cooking together. Loved cooking with my mom. So much fun together.
Mamma is adorable. The way she makes it with love. The little things like the way she mixes it 😭😭😭. Is what made me become a chef but obviously my mom was my inspiration. Very good content.

I made this dish today and it was a fantastic lunch! The onions were the focal point of the creation. Love how it's all wholesome and everything gets well incorporated. The cumin with its warm and earthy tones makes this a perfect dish anytime. True middle eastern comfort food!
So glad you tried it--you totally get this dish, the onions are everything, and cumin is so important. Welcome to the channel!
This is the first video I watch on your channel,I love the way you present your dish here, old fashioned way, you're sweet and real and so is your Mom.
about Mujaddara,I keep the onions out and just pour the oil in from the pan,,some of my family members do not like onions.I also add some olive oil to the rice and lentils at the beginning.thank you ladies and best regards From Amman

Hi Blanche!!! You, Cooking Goddess, have given us the really perfect mujaddara recipe!!! I´ve cooked it yesterday: supreme!!!
Tks!
regards from Argentina!
In iran we cook sultana or date in oil and mix with it plus cinnamon
I just discovered your channel, and enjoyed watching you make Mujaddara. I’m not vegetarian, but I love this dish, especially with the salad!!!
I just made this dish for dinner, and my partner and I love it! I don't eat vegetarian dishes on their own often, but this is something I can definitely eat all the time! The flavours blend so well together and the smooth silky caramelised onions give the dish a sweetness that mellows the cumin. I prepared some yogurt with garlic and cucumber to enjoy with it, and it added that extra tangy and garlicky goodness to the dish. Thanks for the amazing recipes and keep them coming, Blanche! Greetings from Seattle!
You just made my night, so glad you enjoyed this dish, which is super healthy too! Greetings to you in Seattle, love that town! ;)

Wow 😳 I just found a fantastic weekly staple - beautiful presentation from two lovely ladies 👍
Yummy easy recipe will make soon Insha Allah. Beautiful mom ad daughter aisha from India
WOW!! I just made this dish and it turned out FANTASTIC!! Last week i made ur homemade hummus. AWESOME!!! MY parents are from Puerto Rico and i was born here in NY; cooking Middle Eastern food makes me appreciate other cultures than my own. Especially if the food comes out as delicious. as yours. Thanks for talking the time to show us.❤❤❤. I LOVE YOUR MOM, also!
Thank you so much my dear, I absolutely LOVE Puerto Rico and the people there, hope your parents are ok after those horrible hurricanes. I appreciate your feedback and welcome to our Middle Eastern family! ;)
Wonderful. Another favorite of mine. One difference in our process is we cut the onions a little smaller and saute' them in the dame pot before cooking the lentils. I found this gives added flavor to the dish (and one less pan to wash). Also, we often top it with Arabic cabbage salad (my own creation). It's an amazing combination. Even cold in Arabic bread with the cabbage salad. Great for picnics.
Love your ideas, I love cabbage salad with anything!
You both are so beautiful ❤ Thank you for all your recipes! They are easy and tasty. I married my Lebanese husband 30 years ago and have been cooking all kinds of recipes for him. We are eating mjedra today. He likes it with pickled vegetables and pita bread. You two are so blessed to have each other. I wish I still had my mother she passed in 1987. I love watching your cooking shows. ❤❤
Aww thank you dear--your husband is lucky to have you! God bless your mother and thank you for joining our virtual family!
Por favor hablen mas despacio para en tender o si tienen programa en español gracias me encanta el programa 😘
Thanks it's very good to see the right direction you have saw here
I have just recently been introduced to this dish at a fabulous local restaurant in Sterling Heights, MI, Allie's. I love it and want to make it at home, too. Thanks for your tips. The onions make the dish. Allie's are very dark and sweet. So good!!!
Hope you enjoy this recipe! 👍
Well done, nice and steady
You two lovely ladies have great personalities and great recipes too. Thanks!!
Thank you! ;)
Very nice recipe and thanks for sharing ❤
It’s always nice to reserve part of the fried onions and add them on top of the already plated mujaddara. Besides the yogurt topping, a side of turnip pickles (lift) goes very well with this dish. Great show by a really nice duo!
I love watching your videos! This is such a tasty dish. Thank you for sharing!
Thank for watching!
Absolutely great work 😍
So cute. Mum and daughter !! Love!
I find coriander and fried onions works better for texture, adds a crunch. I’m not much on vegetarian cooking so I add this as a side dish to a nice roast. My mother prefers to just eat it plain. But a nice vinegar and tomato based sauce goes very well Mujaddara. Your recipe goes very well!
I make this dish at least once a week! My husband loves it and my kids finally came around to loving it. Sahtain!!
WONDERFUL! Thanks for your feedback and so glad you enjoy this dish!
Oh my oh my yum yum yum. I must try this now that is fall. When it comes to the salad I usually add cumin and black pepper. Do you think it is ok
I think whatever you personally like is ok-- there is cumin in the dish itself, which is why I leave it out of the salad. :)
I just made it! Its really good. Thanks to you and your Mom!
I always loved mujaddara but never tried it with the salad till I saw this video. That's such an awesome way to have it, thanks. With lots of lemon juice and sumac!
krnewman Yes the salad is a must! Thanks for your feedback! ;)
I’m watching this video it’s 3 o’clock in the morning and you know what I’m heading to the kitchen because I could taste this dish already
Lol glad I could help!!
1, wow never thought of adding camun to injectable, we always just did it with salt and pepper. 2 you can never have too many onions, my gtarandmother would dice some into the rice,& fry crispy for on top. My mother, she carmalises the onions like mad, again mote the merrier, and pours it and it's oil on the rice as it cooks in the oven, the longer itmcooks, the darker it gets and so so good. Yes, in my house, from my grandma, we like to start it, & most rice things, on the stove & finish it in the oven. You put it in the oven when the water comes to a boil or when the water comes just about to the level of the rice. Also also, yogurt is a classic combo with injedra, and or Syrian tomato salad. Perfect comfort food
Side note, never heard of it being done with buragol, but it must give a great textural difference, also I'd consider then baking it to give it that extra crunch on the top, like youmwould, with buragol b'jibm.
Your mom is beautiful and young... you two look like beautiful sisters!
God bless you!
God bless you too! Yes it has been awesome having a young mother, we hang out like best friends all the time ❤️
@@blanchetv That's beautiful! I do the same with my mom! God bless you both!
We got your book and we are going to buy more to give as presents for the holidays. Thank you for the recipes.
Aww thank you Rex I so appreciate it!
YOUR RECIPE IS VERY GOOD INDEED. I MAKE A VERSION OF THIS RICE WHICH IS AS FOLLOWS: AFTER THE ONIONS ARE ALMOST FRIED, I ADD CHOPPED DATES AND RAISINS AND THOROUGHLY MIX WITH THE ONIONS FOR ABOUT 3-4 MINUTES. THEN ADD SAFFRON INFUSED IN LITTLE HOT WATER TO THE MIXTURE AND ADD THE LOT TO THE LENTIL RICE. JUST THOUGHT TO SHARE THIS.
+mohammad davoudian Sounds great, love the addition of dates, add some sweetness! Thanks for sharing!
Never heard of this, will definitely try it
It could be great but it is not Mujadarah any more!
That's an Iranian dish called Adas polo. I make it too
sounds good but its not mujadarah with this mixture, sounds more Iranian
Loving all your recipes. Great presentation. Simple to follow and all very delicious.
+Reg Redhill Thank you so much! ;)
Almost seven years later and I finally got around to making this...OMG! I agree 1,000 percent the onions definitely take this to another level.
So glad you tried it, better late than never! ;)
Just made this, it came out great! Didn't have tomatoes or red onions on hand so I made zatziki instead with extra garlic and lemon. It was amazing.
Tzatziki is FANTASTIC with this, I often mix yogurt up with the salad ...cucumbers are really all you need to enjoy this though so glad you improvised!
I love it 👌
I made this just over a week ago, my family loved it. So I made it yesterday for company (adding some toasted slivered almonds). The only problem is there were no leftovers. So I'm making it again right now. Delicious!!
Wonderful to hear!! Happy cooking! (and eating ;) Hope you subscribe to get my latest recipes! ;)
Thanks for the advice on old lentils.

I am making this right now as I watch your show.

Kushari, also koshari, is an Egyptian dish originally made in the 19th century, made of rice, macaroni, and lentils mixed together, topped with a spiced tomato sauce and garlic vinegar, and garnished with chickpeas and crispy fried onions. Sprinklings of garlic juice, garlic vinegar, and hot sauce are optional
Harry Zak sounds so delicious . Thanks
