I grew up eating Mujadara in Texas. My family was originally from Tripoli, Lebanon. I loved adding diced pickled jalapenos, but add flavor and heat to the dish.
I recently learned about mujadara from a cooking magazine, maybe not super authentic since it's quite spiced? (garlic, bay leaf, allspice and cumin), but I looove it. It was made with basmati rice, but I need to try it with bulger, too! So I'll definitely try out your recipe. Especially since I have difficulty getting my onions to really brown.
@@maureenabood Hello! I finally made it for dinner tonight! It was very good. I might like it with rice a bit better, but I'll definitely make it this way again. :)
Years ago I used to work at a Lebanese restaurant and this was my all time favorite dish. They also made it with Bulgar instead of rice, so was very excited when I found your recipe. It's hard to believe that these few, simple ingredients make something that tastes incredibly delicious and heavenly!
Maureen, I've been eating mujadara my whole life (Middle Eastern background) but NEVER have I seen bulgar wheat subbed for the usual rice! This sounds fantastic, thanks! P.S.: What size skillet is that? Is it Le Creuset? (also, your kitchen is stunning).
Susan I love mujadara with coarse bulgur! The health quotient goes up even higher with bulgur, which is much higher in protein and fiber than rice. The texture and flavor are wonderful. And thank you about my kitchen!!! That 5-quart Le Creuset braiser is my workhorse. I even bake talami bread in it!!

Penelope I love hearing this!! Mujadara tastes so great using bulgur and bulgur has so much more nutritional value than rice. Thank you!

OMG... It's so much better with 7 spice! Garam Masala if in a pinch... Come on!
