@@hafida9136 Hello, I am not familiar with college courses or anything but what are the prerequisites for? Like which class or major is it that you’re taking prerequisites at a community college? If you get what I mean.
I loved this video, I’m so happy to have found your channel!! ☺️✨ I’m in community college (first semester) and getting into a nursing program seems so hard. What part time jobs, for a teen with no experience, would look best for a program?
Hi Sarah! I recommend looking into CNA/PCA work or look into working in a group home. I did that through part of my nursing school career and that job really helps you understand nursing and dowsnt burn you out like CNA/PCA work can (atleast that's what I found).
So would you recommend getting my RN degree at community college and then going to get my BSN, or should I just get my pre reqs done at community college and then go to a big university and start my BSN?
Great question, Sarah! It all depends on what your preferences or priorities are. If you're able to find a RN diploma or associates degree program like I did, then you can start working sooner. You could then have your employer pay for your RN to BSN, which is what I did. I personally think that's a great option by not only saving you money, but allows you to start your career sooner. Now if you really want to attend a four year school and have that experience, there's nothing wrong with that. Especially if you have a scholarship or just want to knock out your BSN all at once. It's really all up to you.
Yes it is. Some masters or doctorate programs require a certain GPA and if it’s simply pass/fail you won’t meet such requirements. Even some of these schools with pass/fail grades state on their site it might not get accepted when applying for higher education.
Hey David, thanks for the question. What would make you want to pursue nursing at that stage in life? I'm rarely going to dissuade someone from pursuing nursing if that's what they want to do. I had classmates who were in their 50s, so I think you could do it if you're determined and willing to put in the time and effort!
@@Katherine_Ann I would've persued nursing sooner but I told I was too old so went into Polysomnography. Pardon my language but I'm bored shitless with poly and I've always thought I'd make a good nurse. I just want to receive and honest shot!
There are multiple programs you can go into to work as an RN. There are diploma, associates, and bachelor's peograms! Look up which ones are in your area! Diploma and associates are the fastest to get and you can work full time while going back to school online for an RN to BSN degree.
That's a great question! I would imagine you'd have to meet whatever pre-reqs they would require. I'm sure it's easier depending on the school you went to for your RN!
Hey there! I made 0 friends while in my RN-BSN program 🤣 but I also was not trying to make any friends either. I believe there were study groups though where you could make friends if that's something you want.
Hi there. I have questions regarding the class work. How was biochemistry and statistics? Did you find those hard? And how many papers did you have to write for the BSN program at WGU? I heard that you submit papers and WGU will give students corrections to be made before officially submitting them. Great video!
Biochem was a bit hard for me (due to me not wanting to study) but once I actually applied myself it was fine! Same with statistics! There are groups you can follow along with with all classes and have it more structured instead of by yourself. I ended up doing that with biochem and watching videos live from the instructor and asking question with other students, it was like a large Skype call. I believe I wrote less than 10 papers the entire time. There was one large paper and that for for the EBP class, but the rest were smaller papers. And you are correct, you are always to submit all classwork up to 3 times and they will give you corrections. You also are allowed to take tests like that too. Tou have two chances to pass the final than after that you have to lay to take it a third time but you also have to meet with a course instructor (online) and figure out what is going wrong that you aren't able to pass. Hope this helps!
Nurse Katherine thanks for the info!!! This is really helpful. Interesting about having to repay to retake the test if you fail it twice. The rep I’m talking to never mentioned that. Do you know the fee? And is it the same exact test each time you retake it? Thank youuuuu!!!
@@javierarizola13 you're very welcome! It's about 65 dollars I believe. It had to retake a test before and I believe it was that much. And no it is not the same test but some of the questions did repeat for the test I took. When you take the pre test for each class that will give you a great understanding of what is actually on the test. Also remember if you take the pretest first (like I did with the geriatric class) and do well you can take the final right away and skip all class work. A lot of class work... actually most is not required for the class. I passed that class in a few days because I just took the final and passed. I didn't even look at one page of the book or class work.
Nurse Katherine quick question. Do ACT scores of a 21 only apply to universities that offers a regular nursing program (2 years pre req, 2 years nursing school), basically a BSN? I plan to get my RN degree first than do the RN-BSN program.
ClassicB Yes, your ACT scores are more important to 4 year colleges over community colleges. For community college, you can definitely submit your ACT scores but you can also just take a placement test.
Did you look at other options, such as smaller state schools that also offer RN-BSN? I like the idea of WGU, but I'm trying to find the benefit of it if it takes you as long or longer than a state school. I see the value in the "I got it done in 6 months", but I know I'm not that person. Otherwise, I can be done in a year in Georgia and possibly spend less.
Hi! So the biggest reason I picked WGU was because it was fully paid for by my employer and I also was able to do everything at my own pace. I could finish a class in 2 days or 2 months, all was dependent on how well I already knew the information. :) I never looked at state schools because WGU was around the same price.
