- La Guaira Venezuela, preliminares de Kata, Cleiver Casanova performance kata denominado Kyan no Chinto o Tomari no Chinto. Existen dos katas Chinto, el enbusen de ambos es una línea recta, por que hay una diferencia fundamental entre ambos, la versión de Tomari-Te se realiza en diagonal, la versión de Shuri-Te en perpendicular. En esta oportunidad el marcadore quedo 5-0 a favor de Casanova.
When Kanazawa Sensei decided to conform Tomari Chinto (Kyan) to Shotokan he should have left the movements alone. The two movements he cuts ( and by not adding the unnecessary cat stance) would bring the kata closer to the embusen.

If we truly observe the COMPETITION KATA EXPONENTS. we start to see an increase in speed at the sacrifice of application, kime and true zanshin and neglect of the hikate which is critical. Without these elements your kata is merely a prearranged dance. Sad

I trained in Japan with Kanazawa Hirokazu Soke and this is not the correct way to do this Kata. As you said Kime , Zanshin and Hikate does not exist in competiton Kata. Sad but true.
@goggles789 It's not true. You apply what you train repeatedly. If you practice karate for only sport, difficultly you will be able to change de "key" to self defense in a critical and stressful moment of real fight.

@Hamza Harkaoui is it listed in wkf kata list? I just knew it is shotokan style, but not very popular.
It is a kata composed by Hirukazu Kanazawa, founder of the Shotokan Karate Do International Federation (SKIF).
Late to the party here but this Sho version of Gankaku is the last kata in Kanazawa's kata book. It is not in the JKA's list from Nakayama's Best Karate Series but as far as I can see, the stances, blocks and punches are all Shotokan karate basics. Master Kanazawa, in my opinion, 'shotokanized' the kata. Same way Gigo Funaloshi had altered the katas he learned from other karate teachers to fit the Shotokan way of doing things. I learned this kata on my own and it made me understand the Gankaku in Shoitokan so much better. I thought there was an extra move by the karateka in this performance. I don't remember a wedge block after the two lateral punches after the elbow strike in shiko dachi.
