The "Shotokan Suparinpei" (Hyakuhachiho) was introduced to SKIF via Kanazawa Sensei to my understanding, along with Nijuhachiho (Nipaipo). And Hyakuhachiho is NOT on the list but this would be considered a school (Shotokan) variation of the kata so it accepted. Check out Article 5 of the 2017 WKF Kata Rules (page 28-30)
This is my point of view: Shotokan is not a School but a Style. Inside the Shotokan style there are many schools like JKA, or SKA for exemple. Kancho Kanazawa has his own school/organisation SKIF where for exemple Gojushoho Sho is the "normal" Gojushiho Dai and viceversa. This is for me a variation specific to that school. Another exemple of variation is the Goju-Ryu Kata Suparinpei performed in the Goju-Kai version or in the Goju-Kensha version. But it is always Goju-Ryu. Hyakukachiho is a very "exotic" Kata for the Shotokan Style and cannot be considered a "standard" Shotokan Kata. The WKF Kata Rules (English version) on page 28 say: "Only kata from the official kata list may be performed: ...". Hyakukachiho is not on this list and therfore this Kata cannot be performed in WKF competitions. The WKF Kata Rules say also: "...In several instances a kata may be known under a different name from style (Ryu-ha) to style...". This is the case of Enpi (Shotokan) and Wanshu (Wado-Ryu): they are the same Kata but under different names depending on the Style (Ryu-ha). Aka performed Hyakukachiho under the name "Suparinpei" (a Goju-Ryu and Shito-Ryu Kata). The WKF Kata Rules say: "Slight variations as taught by the contestant’s style (Ryu-ha) of Karate will be permitted." These are not "slight" variations but "huge" variations if the Kata Suparinpei. For me is not a problem if Hyakukachiho is performed in WKF competions but it has to be on the official Kata list!
interesting.. hakyuhachiho is a very rare kata to see... however, there seems to be many versions of this kata, I have only seen this kata 4 Times on RUclips and I've seen it performed in 4 different versions
Max Karavan so why does he announce suparimpei?! and hyukuhachiho is on thr wkf list?!!! to me this shotokan copy of suparimpei made by some guys like cleiver or pepe carbonnel is ridiculous and should n t be allowed. having say that cleiver is very good and impressive on katas like unsu and gankaku and antonio was very good in this final even with the years lol
The kata on the approved WKF list is Hakucho, not Hyakuhachiho - that's why Cleiver announced it as Suparinpei. Hakucho is a white crane form from some Shito-Ryu schools. Not too many people do it though
It's the Shotokan version called Hyakuhachiho. Although not on the approved kata list, it is considered a school variation of Suparinpei and is accepted
Yes. Only because Hyakuhachiho isn't on the approved WKF list but Suparinpei is. And according to the rules, school variations ARE permitted and that's where the Shotokan version (ie. Hyakuhachiho) falls into. Again, not my rules lol
Aka has no respect to the old Japanese senseis who has created the katas. A shotokan Suparinpei doesn't exist and it shouldn't exist. For me both were not good. It's just show karate
Oi Oi The real name of the kata that aka performed is Hyakuhachiho, the shotokan version of Suparimpei. It was created by Sensei Hirokazu Kanazawa, the founder of SKIF, who was a direct student of Funakoshi. Although it's not in the original shotokan syllabus, it was created by and old Japanese sensei.

所々、受け方とか立ち方間違ってない?
Me Dirian los katas que hicieron
Suparimpei
Segun vi el primer participante hizo una variante de shotokan de suparinpei, nunca la habia visto
what version of suparimpei is aka performing?
It's the Shotokan version called Hyakuhachiho. Although not on the approved kata list, it is considered a school variation of Suparinpei and is accepted
Andrew Cabilan so it should be announced as Suparimpei instead of hyakuhachiho in WKF tourneys?
According to the rules, yes
