We should never forget the old masters and traditions, but everything evolves also karate. Therefore this is an outstanding demonstration of a beautiful kata no matter where it comes from.

This kata is a perfect representation of what Shotokan has become after Funakoshi. Take something from Okinawa and turn it into a Japanese version and change the name to Japanese. Nothing wrong with that but just saying. Very nice performance, by the way.
As someone that's been practicing goju since 1990, I'm rather aghast. Strong powerful, but still it's basically the raping maiming pillaging and plundering of a method of movement I hold dear
I direct people to watch the arai sensei version which is far more technical I feel like this has been simplified and made more flashy for competition. But each to there own

This is not the Shotokan version rather a hybrid that is more WKF friendly. Nice kata and great demo of it but not the traditional version in case someone wanted to know. Hyakuhachiho is the derivative of the Nahate kata Pechurin commonly known as Suparinpei.
This version is a huge departure from what is used in Goju Ryu and Shito Ryu as well as the JKA. Interesting but I think it may have been revised for the WKF competition as the stances are more appealing to that type of audience. We practiced the more orthodox Shotokan version in KOJF.(Karate of Japan Federation).
No worries Gono Maniax. I am not that good myself and at 61 yrs of age with over 50 yrs of practice I am not sure I will become good but I still train and teach daily. Though this is a nice version of kata as stated it is not the most accurate of the Shotokan method. Still not bad. As you know no matter how good we think we are, there is always someone better. What is important is that we become the best we are capable of becoming and not so important if we are better than anyone else. I practice for myself and family, no one else. If you like this version then learn and practice it to the best of your ability. Ultimately you must find what works for you and fits into your own plans to develop your karate. This is HORRIBLE!! Why would you copy a kata from Goju-ryu, totally butcher it and even show it in public?! Why not learning it correctly and perform it correctly?!
relax... guy.... various kata have a diferent executions in the diferents karate styles. for example: Naihanchi/Tekki, Pinan/Heian, unsu/unshu, chinto(shito)/Gankaku, and now... Suparinpei/Hyakuhachiho. Have a many modifications into the "kyodos", kime and kimochi... neither better nor worse, just different. keep studying. Oss! PS. Sorry for my trash english
Suparinpei doesn't belong to any one style. Shito-ryu includes it also and has slight differences to some goju-ryu versions that I've seen. Even within different goju lineages the kata has slight variances. So which is the "correct" version? Morio Higaonna because of his age will often now perform a modified version of suparinpei. Should he be reprimanded for not doing it "correctly"? How you even know that Miyagi himself didn't make changes from what Kanryo Higaonna taught him? No traditional kata is "original" or "correct". They've all been changed over time. RUclipsr Jesse Enkamp went to China last year to look for the roots of karate for his web series. While there he saw and filmed Chinese masters perform older, more advanced versions of Seishan and Suparinpei. That in itself shows that even the "correct" versions in goju-ryu or shito-ryu aren't really correct. The Okinawans themselves made changes.
Probablement la meilleure exécution de kata que j’ai visionné! de ma vie à part celle de mon maître il y a 40 ans dans une compétition à Montréal où il avait gagné la médaille d’or, il était originaire d Okinawa, son nom Tetsum Watanabe que je n’oublierais jamais.

Wasn't Shotokan JKShotorenmei version more related to the ShitoRyu version ? This one looks weird. (I love the use of Kiba-Dachi, though)
