Since we uploaded the video, Thrustmaster has released a firmware update for the T598 (the one mentioned in the quote in the video) that fixes some of the oscillation, especially in the menus and apparently tweaks the Gran Turismo 7 feeling a bit. -Michel
Can confirm that. The update had a positive impact on ffb and handling in GT7. Let's hope that soon there will be a dedicated update in GT7, so that the wheel will be recognized as a true direct drive and not as a tgt.
I bought this and i'm quite happy with it. I'm using it with iracing as i'm not a console player. No complaints at all except for one, the mounting screws wiggled loose after a few days of use and left a few metal shavings on the desk it was clamped to. There's already been two firmware updates since I bought it, so i'm confident its only going to get better. I want to add, in iracing using the auto calibrate button it actually ends up setting the peak to 15nm. Using that option, I have not once seen it clip. I'm still a noob to iracing though so it's possible i'm not using their settings correctly, but it feels very powerful.
have you tried in any other games, if so how does it feel in them? I am pretty intrested in the t598 even though I am not going to be getting one as it would be downgrade for me but I just find it intresting
(GT7 VR racer) I love my T598 i started sim racing on tgt2 and I stay with TM in case that I have tlcm pedals and 2x rims EVO and SF1000( using QR adapter) and cockpit from next level. T598 get me back to be competitive and faster normally I was on TGT2 3sec on faster time on actual track in sport mode, on T598 Iam 1.4sec on faster time on actual track. I have T598 from 28.11.2024 but from start I did update of firmware to newest ,setup I used which shows on support TM pages and T598 feels great So for me it is new ERA 😊
This is very similar to my situation. I have a T300 and play mostly GT7 (about 70% of the time), the rest is PC sims. I’ve been waiting for a DD wheelbase from TM for the PS5 for a while, because like you I have other wheels, a shifter, and TLCM pedals. Now that it is here, I am cautiously optimistic about it, I don’t want to change ecosystems to Fanatec, but will do it if this is just not food enough
4:00 From a technical perspective we ARE still talking about DD (although this is not how Thrustmaster have marketed it) as it is still directly driven(no gears or belts). If you would like to split it by motor type it is DAD rather than DRD.
I've had mine for about a week now and zero complaints. I love this unit! Immediately updated the firmware and everything works smoothly. Needed a wheel setup for my PS5 and GT7 as I use my TSXW for Xbox and this T598 setup is a much better experience at a more affordable cost. I did not use the included pedal set as I already have the TLCM pedals, TH8A shifter, and TSS Handbrake for my TSXW connected to the simhub and everything swapped right over. My only small complaint is how much plastic is used in the wheel it comes with. I've since purchased the Thrustmaster Hypercar and Evo32 wheels and waiting to try those out.
@Isa-t6v3v Thrustmaster has a link on their website under T598 support that tells you which mode you should use for specific games. Click on the "Game Settings" option and there is a PS5 and PS4 games list. GT7 for PS5 is Blue mode. Hope that helps.
@OverTake_gg It's a significant upgrade in my opinion from the TS-XW and I would definitely recommend it. The smoothness of the DD in comparison to the belt drive while simply rotating the wheel while not in game or in game is night and day. The in depth onboard settings options of the T598 is a game changer as well. I also had alot of issues with the TS-XW losing FFB at random times during races and the only option was to restart the game or wheel. Frustrating to say the least.
@@randypittman4994 Release notes said: This new slider lets you adjust the wheel rim's inertia. There are four settings to choose from, ranging from no inertia to high inertia (OFF, LOW, MID, HIGH), allowing for more or less steering control depending on the game you are playing and the vehicle you are using. This motor setting increases the wheel rim's inertia proportionally to the vehicle's speed. The faster the vehicle goes, the more the inertia increases. High inertia increases the force required to turn the wheel rim (the wheel rim then slows down), thereby limiting oscillations in a straight line when using very powerful vehicles.

It’s incredible so far. I always held off on buying a wheel cause something worth getting always seemed out of reach. For the price with console and pc support it’s amazing. GT7 support could be better but I’ve still been having fun with it. Super responsive in ACC on PC.
I always have connection problems. While I am playing, the T598 loses the connection to the PlayStation. The latest update is installed..do you know This Problem?
Yes the 488 update was a strange one wonderd why there is a usb plug inside. Then I found out to update it you need to unscrew the quick release again. Not very user friendly.
The software does not allow you to adjust settings on the wheel. The windows app promises it is coming but it has clearly been brought to the market before they were good and ready. Also the mounting holes are a random placement. Why they didn't use mounting rails is typical. The mounting holes don't match those on my rig. So I have to use the extra spacer, which elevates the hight of the already high motor. I had to seriously increase the hight of my monitor. Then the pedals, that also has no decent mounting system other than two (only two) threads. AND two separate chords with mini-jacks, one for the throttle, one for the brake. This makes proper cable management impossible. The settings using the small screen is even worse for 1980's era solutions. After spending most of a day to get it installed (where I still have to tie down all cables, I took it for a test drive. First impression: Ah.. it has potential, but I have to get used to it. Once I can set the max rotation to my liking, and select the proper FFB settings, I can really put it through its paces. But foday, I'm not impressed at all

Nice video many thanks. I’m still on the fence as a mature sim racer who hasn’t really felt the need to go direct drive yet. I’ve been using belt driven wheels for years and still rocking a T300RS as my everyday setup. My biggest concern is even at 500 notes I would really prefer less plastic as this really puts me off as it looks cheap and even my T300RS feels dare I say more toy like. I’m not knocking thrustmaster as I’ve had many of there products and had excellent reliability over the many years. As you mention for PlayStation users (like myself) there isn’t a great deal of options with direct drive and we definitely need more players like Moza and Cammus for healthy competition and more options.

I played AC all the time with the TGT II and it’s crazy good. It’s a $25 game for PS4/PS5! So cheap and so good. ACC in the other hand is junk compared to their previous game like I mentioning. The FFB and detail is horrible and not properly set for console base wheels I’m assuming. Why there’s no one trying F1 24/23 whichever your favorite is in the T598?. I feel like there’s much more opportunity to test this base out not only with two games. Like GT 7 or ACC both on console and PC. Reviewing T598 on PC is just useless, the whole point for this base is to market console players. PC users have way more options available. Cheers
