Haven’t fanatec offered PlayStation bases on pretty much all their major bases why not go with that and get a much wider ecosystem that has basically everything you can think of
As a Playstation user, this wheel is a pretty serious consideration, but probably more as a standalone release. A different wheel (or converting a current T300 wheel quick release) and using 3DRap’s pedals I think would be a pretty killer console setup. (But please Moza release something PS compatible first so I have something to think about)
It's a direct drive that uses an axial electric motor and not a more usual radial flux. The difference has to do with how the magnetic fields used in the motor are orientated. These kinds of motors are lighter and provide more power for their size and is the reason why auto manufacturers are switching to it for EVs. Sadly, as you mentioned, the design of axial motors means that the base is going to be that huge, sizing it down isn't as simple as they'd need to use a smaller motor, which would reduce the torque it puts out.
I bought one and I have no problem with the shape of the base. In fact it is surprisingly heavy for it's size. The actual width and height of the wheel base is narrower the the Logitech G Pro. Oh you are right, it is stamped into the plastic housing. Also I just noticed rewatching it these ports are keyed differently, you shouldn´t be able to plug it into the other port?
actually it is very similar or maybe even the same as Cammus outter rotary, it still can be counted as direct driven since there is no gear / belt or other medium to drive the shaft
Hello, I am a PC gamer and I do not plan to switch to console. Since I was planning to play games such as iracing and Assetto Corsa, I was planning to buy the moza r5 bundle for a long time, but this new direct drive steering wheel set was silently released. So, what do you think, should I buy the Moza R5 bundle or the Thrustmaster T598 bundle?
I also wondered about the space for an additional pedal. But in one video (sorry, forgot which one) I heard that the additional pedal comes with a wider plate.
its just a DD wheel base with 1 extra questionable step. DD just means the FFB goes straight to wheel without anything in between. This is literally the same with different type of motor
Not sure if anyone has asked, but do the screw holes line up with the plate on the playseat challenge? I’m seeing different answers and wanted to get the group answer if anyone has first hand knowledge.
Its weird that they didn't put the t3PM pedals, i mean aren't those entry level pedals too? And the T248 sits akwardly here cuz it's not that much cheaper. They should refine their lineup a bit more.
Only matters if you're playing on a screen though. And if that screen is fairly low. No one should be playing on a screen now anyways. You can get a VR headset used for like nothing at this point, and it makes screens seem like ancient tech from the 70s. Haven't played shooters or racing or flight sims outside of VR since like 2016. For VR, this base is totally fine. In 5 years time, not many people will still be racing on screens. It's just vastly inferior.
@@JimmyNuisance vr headsets are not good enough yet. first of all they can cause motion sickness and it can take a while to adapt, they are a nuisance to wear for hours on end and it can be harder to be as consistent as on a screen. for now screens are much better for competition, i would use a vr headset only for immersion in short sessions.
Bought it because the Loadcell brake comes next year with a new bigger pedal plate. And because I am in europe I maybe get it near christmas the seller implied. 5nm with 100% overshoot and no cogging. Wait until they can make a 10nm wheel for half the price because less copper is used.
It doesn’t make any sense to buy a direct drive wheelset with such a low torque. At that point your best bet is to go with a belt driven set and if that’s not enough, you up your game with DD at 8-12nm. You need to get a big DD so as to give some leeway to the system in order to not overheat it after excessive gaming sessions.
Fair review and excellently executed as usual. Thanks! Overall, my opinion of this product remains unchanged. The bad unfortunately outweigh the good, and this should only be considered by PS users.
If the price goes down a bit, it's a perfect entry level wheel. I wouldn't exchange my CSL DD 8 nm for this but at least Thrustmaster is done with the dusty belt driven stuff, which is refreshing. Yes the design is odd, I am not a fan, i think price and worldwide availability will make the difference.
I do believe I have read somewhere that the clutch add on will be coming with a different footplate so I believe the pedal config will be wider with that add on.
"the casual racing gamer" has a video on that, he came from a T-GT II and has some good pointers about it. He'll probably have a full review in the not too distant future. Seems like a great bundle for the price.
I’m currently using a pc setup with the t300 rs gt. You said you dont recommend it for pc players but what about upgrading your setup. They are gonna sell the pedals and base as standalone products in the future and I’m considering buying them (the pedals upgrade set has a new face plate if I remember correctly so the pedals are further away from each other)
Good review I’d say pretty much on the money about being on PS5 or PC , I got this being a Console user myself, would’ve went with Moza if I had a pc. Would’ve like for Moza to release a PS5 compatible R3 but who knows when and if. So pretty easy choice and I am very happy with the wheel. Idk what ppl talking about wheel flex.
Good review. I agree with you that this bundle would only make sense for playstation users because the Moza R5 and Fanatec CSL DD offer a better package. Granted, this wheel will be easier to obtain because it'll be sold at Best Buy in the US which means that you won't have to go to Micro Center or buy it online if that isn't convenient for you.
I’m upgrading from the t300rs gt do you think this is worth it? I’m already in the thrustmaster ecosystem so i don’t want to have to buy a whole new shifter and stuff if i were to get like a moza, but do you think this is good to use for maybe a few years?
You talked about who’s this bundle made for, and I have a question, I race primarily on PC ACC and maybe may go down PS4/5 for GT7, I’m going from a $160 PXN V900, and Moza R5 Bundle was one of the top picks. However, with this coming out, I’m split on what to choose. What would you guys recommend?
Moza products aren't Sony compatible. If you wanna play GT7 this is going to be the cheapest DD option, if you go Fanatec it's 200$ more. If you play PC only then you can get whatever starter DD bundle including MOZA, they are all pretty much the same and my guess is ppl mostly choose between them based on looks.

@BodenBurke-hu2nt i upgraded from g920 to this. Haven't tried rally yet but when playing rally on the g920 it did seem very difficult for me. It could just be me lol. Heads up to anyone buying a T598 for playing ACC on PS5! Boosted Media did an amazing review on this product, and he said it worked great on most titles, but it was absolutely terrible for ACC on PS5 which is the only reason I wanted one to begin with. Boosted said the T598s' force feedback in ACC was "completely broken" and since ACC is no longer under rigorous development, the FFB may not get fixed anytime soon, if ever. 8:02 the pedals port *is* labeled, right there under the port lol
Oh you are right, it is stamped into the plastic housing. Also I just noticed rewatching it these ports are keyed differently, you shouldn´t be able to plug it into the other port?
So which one is better for pc. MOZA R5 or TRUSTMASTER T598
actually it is very similar or maybe even the same as Cammus outter rotary, it still can be counted as direct driven since there is no gear / belt or other medium to drive the shaft
Still missing that "claim your early ticket here" guy
He’s somewhere in here!
Gotta start getting my Maraca's ready for these vids 💃💃💃, Great vid man!
Put that music in just for you 😉
@@OCRacing 5:06 I knew what was about to go down in 0.2 of a second lol
Biggest plus is the bundle price at 500 euro.. it’s constantly not in stock
an axial flux motor instead of radial flux seems like an interesting idea but the form factor is a big issue
You answered your own issue with axial motor form factor. Think pancake hence the form factor.
@@OfficialComentery well yeah?
Guys should I buy this one or wait till Black friday and buy the Fanatec gt DD Pro 8Nm? Im not sure
I have the same issue dont' know what to do😅
second option
if u can afford a dd pro, dont even think about TM. T596 feels weaker and much cheaper compair to a 5nm dd.
Get a fanatec with a boost kit 8nm is all you need , along with v2 pedals...it's the best bang for your buck out there right now
@@ReddevilracingFanatec’s customer service are bad
Dude thanks for the vid it gives me a whole new perspective on the product!
What’s the difference between this one and the t300
Yea I think I will just get a fanatec or moza wheel base. Good vid oc!
Fair review and excellently executed as usual. Thanks! Overall, my opinion of this product remains unchanged. The bad unfortunately outweigh the good, and this should only be considered by PS users.
Yeah, us '' poor '' PS users. PC gamers are so much better. We have 1000$ for a pc, then another 1000$ for a wheel.
i believe they invent this new DD method becoz they cant deliver a durable long life DD wheelbase, im suffering with T818 as a traditional DD
Tellement vrai
Where would you rank this compared to the DD PRO?
Unless you’re using that base at an extreme angle for something like ATS/ETS, it seems like a poor design choice. Confusing even.
The pedals only fit into one jack in the wheelbase.
The load cell comes with a bigger pedal plate
If the price goes down a bit, it's a perfect entry level wheel. I wouldn't exchange my CSL DD 8 nm for this but at least Thrustmaster is done with the dusty belt driven stuff, which is refreshing. Yes the design is odd, I am not a fan, i think price and worldwide availability will make the difference.
I do believe I have read somewhere that the clutch add on will be coming with a different footplate so I believe the pedal config will be wider with that add on.
Ah see that would make a ton more sense. I guess time will tell what they do
Can you review the tx leather edition?
@OC Racing what are your thoughts on the T598 vs. the T-GT II?
"the casual racing gamer" has a video on that, he came from a T-GT II and has some good pointers about it. He'll probably have a full review in the not too distant future. Seems like a great bundle for the price.
@ yeah I saw that one. I’m just curious as to if there are any alternate opinions.
This or logitec G pro?
I’m upgrading from the t300rs gt do you think this is worth it? I’m already in the thrustmaster ecosystem so i don’t want to have to buy a whole new shifter and stuff if i were to get like a moza, but do you think this is good to use for maybe a few years?
also i play on pc only which you brought up
Can you compare this wheel to the t300? worth upgrading?
Worth upgrading, yes. It’s a much more capable base

I was wondering, I trust got a rally game and I use my Logitech g20 Wheel I do a lot of GT racing, but I was really struggling with the rally car and it felt like I wasn’t really getting all that much for feedback is the G20 trusted not really enough force feedback for rally games
The strength is not there with the G920. This wheel is better for rally.
@BodenBurke-hu2nt i upgraded from g920 to this. Haven't tried rally yet but when playing rally on the g920 it did seem very difficult for me. It could just be me lol. But either way the t598 and pedals are a huge upgrade for control from the g920. Gas and brake as well are much more responsive and help immensely for braking appropriately
Did you create sim spots?
Can you review the Logitech G Pro Wheel?
Yes. Coming soon 👀
Do you mean if you dont have pedals it wont work?
Would you rather own this wheel base, wheel compared to the CAMMUS C12?
This doesn’t compete with the C12 at all - but between the two I’d rather go the Cammus route for the substantially more power
@@OCRacing thank you!🙏
woukd you say its worth it if i allready have a bunch of thrustmaster wheels and dont want to switch everyhting out?
In my opinion this is a good option only if you are on Playstation. For PC I'd rather get the Moza R5 Bundle or CSL DD Bundle.
its the only option considering what fanitech is doing
@@humannt3374 what do you mean? They had some trouble with deliveries a while ago but then Corsair bought them so it should be fine now. Unless it's something else I'm not aware of?
Their qr is plastic isn't it?
By far the stupidest thing about this is the wheel rim having 4 red centering strips that in fact don’t help you center the wheel!
Just put a piece of tape on the bottom two ...
So how's it feel on ACC ?
So I can't use my own pedals of this wheel on PC?
You should be able to. Just don’t plug in the TM pedals to the base at all
Why do constantly think that it's an expansion to the t248 family
How does it compare side by side against the GT DD Pro
DD Pro clears in my opinion
I've been looking forward to this one Oscar! I actually like the idea, but the plastic-y look and all that flex may make me avoid it. (BTW, the link to it in your description takes us to the RS300)
lol I already bought it but really wanted to watch your review. Also they will be releasing a bigger pedal plate with the load cell brake.
Can you recomend a foldable playset that doesnt fill a lot of space and compatible with the trhustmaster t 598? I heard about the playseat challenge x or the logitech but can t find information about if it fits
@COgaita i bought the ndct level racing wheelstand 2.0 for these same reasons. Very happy w/it. Minimal footprint, adjustable, upgradable, and also foldable for storing while wheel and pedals still attached

can i please ask you to review fanatec csl elite and clubsport wheel bases? 😊
That's a shame because I'm sure most PS5 Sim racers who buy this wheel will be planning on playing ACC specifically like me.
If you happen to have a T598 and are playing ACC on PS5, please let me know if it's been fixed or how it's feeling currently! It would be much appreciated!
I have a T150 and the force feedback also feels like dog poop on ACC. It's just the game's output that's bad imo 😂
Vr and that base is no problem .
Anyone know where u can buy this from in the uk?
Hey OC would you buy one of these if you already have a T-GT II and TLCM pedals? I mostly play GT7 and ACC on my PS5. I have Asetek gear for my PC racing which is my more serious setup.
Nope - the T-GT II is a very good wheelbase, and even comparable to this one. Definitely not worth the upgrade
