Hurricane Katrina destroyed this dark ride designed and built by Sally Corporation for Jazzland / Six Flags New Orleans in 2005. Video showing the ride and park (when new) and the destruction after the Hurricane hit. This park is still closed as of 1/11...Rest in Peace Jazzland!

it’s so sad seeing the park so lively, full of people, and seeing it all lit up at night because this park only lasted 5 years. 5 years of fun. 5 years of people’s laughter, excitement, and screams filling the air with life. it’s been abandoned for longer than how long it was open for. and it’s been rotting away and decaying since 2005. with no more fun, no more laughter, and no more entertainment, like an amusement park is supposed to be. but nope, not this one. it’s now a desolate and vacant land with rides just sitting there and not doing anything anymore

Omg yess! I was scared of it too, and the fact that it kept staring at me while turning its head as I was walking by freaked me out 🤣 It was as if it was alive or a person behind it, so THAT explains why lol. I remember the squirting of the water too. Mann I miss Jazzland/Six Flags New Orleans 😭 Last time going was one month before the hurricane. Never thought that would be my last 😓

I don't care if I posted that reply almost a year ago, I'd still go take the Jacco animatronic for a spin, although that water either isn't gonna come out, or will be contaminated.
There's still security around there, so if I ever get a job as a security guard (considering me talking about both security guards and animatronics, I think you know why. Freddy's not catching me any time soon), I'd just pull out a loudspeaker when a trespasser walks by, and say something along the lines of "*Evil laugh* Someone's wandered into the wrong place, haven't they?". Of course, I'd do it in a Joker voice.
Hell, even better, record myself saying a bunch of different lines in the joker voice, editing the audio to sound corrupted, and then playing the lines through some speakers.

It nearly brings me to tears that this place, even though it was changed to Six Flags, is gone. This ride amazed me even though I didn't get to ride it. Thanks a ton for the video upload!

LiveLoud1998 As it goes this entire ride can be used in another park! The Sally Corporation (the company that designed and built the ride and animatronic) keep all the designs and images so should a ride want to be re-created, it can be. So should six flags want to bring this ride back into another park, that is totally possible!

    • @themadhatter1184

    • @TheTechGuy500
      @TheTechGuy500 9 лет назад +1

LiveLoud1998 At Six Flags New Orleans, it is completely ruined unfortunately. When the Hurricane first hit, New Orleans didn't pay much attention to the resort (mainly because Six Flags backed out of the lease early so it was now government property) so people started breaking in, tagging the walls of almost every ride and stealing copper. Jocco's Mardi Gras Madness suffered quite hard from this and all of the track has been stolen. There is still some paintwork left on the inside but it has mainly turned into rubble now, with only support beams visible. Some great images can be seen on Jason Lanier's RUclips channel. He has been to the park multiple times since the hurricane and taken some amazing pictures that are really worth checking out!

The company that owned Jazzland had financial issues and couldn't keep the park so that's when Six Flags purchased it in 2002 and rebranded it in 2003. After Katrina Six Flags wanted out of their lease after not seeing how much the damages would cost and this was at the time Six Flags was going into bankruptcy themselves after buying and investing millions of dollars into other parks. SF also didn't see any potential left with Jazzland so they gave it back to the city and took what all they wanted in the end.

i hate to see it like this. I don't understand. they literally built it surrounded by water! it still would have flooded hurricane or not. so stupid of them.

they should have relocated it like some of the other rides

True, the only problem with this ride is that It was completely destroyed by the hurricane and It could only be rebuild. Also the mardi gras theme of this ride only matched with New Orleans cause the inside was based on the French Quarter of the city and Louisiana's swamps

Unfortunately, it suffered the worse out of all the rides. All of the props and animatronics were either thrown away or seemed to have mysteriously disappeared and the audio equipment was damaged beyond repair.
But had it miraculously survived through Katrina with minimal scratches and everything in the ride was still there, it would've most likely been relocated to Six Flags Great America. Great America has a section dedicated to New Orleans and that ride would've been perfect there. I like to imagine it being there even though I know that it's never going to.

@@silverkittenx9763 True, I wonder what happened to all the stuff from the interior of the ride.

      @@owivictin4878 Sorry I'm late!
The stuff inside the ride... Yeah it got cleared out back in Summer/Fall of 2008. In fact, all the buildings in the park were gutted out around that time. I don't know exactly what happened to the props themselves, but I would assume they were either kept as someone's collection or they were thrown out in the trash.

@@silverkittenx9763 Most of the props were probably destroyed due to vandals, others were possibly stolen but saved in someone's personal collection as you said; and finally, I know that a bunch of items from the old park have been stored in the National Roller Coaster Museum and Archives. Here is a link to it if you want to check their collection, you will find plenty of stuff from SFNO: rollercoastermuseum.org/archives-artifacts/
