My first vehicle was a 1979 volkwagen superbus, i loved it but every time it had a problem i had to order the parts and the poor teenager that i was coulden't afford it, i sold it to a friend and inherited an old buick from my mom lol, talk about a lead sled! i do wish i had kept at the bus, i can't wait to see this all finished!
awesome. didnt know they had that. Mine was an LX also from the US. but I think someone took my knee bar out at one point because i never saw it lol. 1981 rabbit. baby blue. makes me miss mine
@@dans.adventures im not sure. I never knew they had them until I saw your video and wished mine did lol. They're great trucks. I had the 1.6L diesel in it. I ran it on transmssion fluid and it ran good
@@RemotePaws ah amazing, my knowledge on the late westys is a bit iffy, all I’ve been told is that they upgraded the wiring and brakes from the 1980 models. I’m yet to research!
I love this channel! My 82 Rabbit truck and I say hello from the USA. Hell yeah to informational/history videos! Maybe some stickers and girl cut shirts when the dough starts rolling in?
@@elisabarbiers I appreciate the love! I may have some stickers left, and if you want any specific designs on women’s cut shirts just let me know and we can do custom orders for you :)
@@dans.adventures Yep Ive got an 81 diesel with a tan interior and the way the dash is designed it doesnt seem like a knee bar was intended to be put in it. Im assuming that the knee bars just werent put in the later models as thats all Ive been around and Ive never seen one. Maybe with some slight adjustments one could be put in? Not really sure.
Get a brand new 096 battery and a starter and go from there mate. Your starter has always been lazy/ slow turning the engine over. And the cold weather doesn’t do battery’s any good. You did a great job on the knee bar tho 👌🏻
@ basically they had a belt from the middle of the car to the Door frame. So when you got in, you slid under the belt. They had a secondary lap section but it wasn’t often used. The knee bar then stopped you submarining under the shoulder belt. 👍🏻
@ ahhh those! Sorry just never heard them referenced as passive seatbelts. But yea, totally seen the seatbelts that look like that and the are attached to the doors! I love finding out all the history and things on these. And also, the fact that some were sold with just 1 side view mirror! Love it
12.2 vdc is low for your battery replace it and check ohms from starter housing to negative terminal to make sure it has a good ground once it's running confirm the alternator is putting out 14vdc ish
@@ST-fp1gw the reading was just the battery alone without it the engine running. Just ordered a new starter motor. But yeah normally when it’s running it puts out 14v ish
@@patreon2dollars466 nah, this has happened a few times in the past few months. There’s a relay labelled “53” which we’ve replaced a few times which we think is the issue but not sure what it’s the relay for. The ECU or the fuel pump? Or something else?
TRUCK UPDATE:
I have ordered a new starter motor and I’m hoping a new one will help my issue. I’ll keep you posted!

Super cool never knew that knee bars were a thing, I have an lx truck without one and Ive yet to actually see a knee bar anywhere until today.

Yeah I don’t think the “late westys” came with kneebars sadly. All the history is super interesting to me

The knee bar was for cars with passive seatbelts. They aren’t “needed” for a 3 point belt cars/trucks.
Super cool for a US pickup though. 👍🏻

Did the Fuel pump relay get bumped out of place when you installed your knee bar?
