Now I need this as a sticker for my tow truck driving friends!!
Matt is a generous men, he didn't change anything to the guy on the Nissan. My respects to you Sir...
Help person when he's down.
Maybe he figured with the roll back fee he could comp the ORR and not lose any money? Really nice of Matt to do that. He does practice the golden rule!
@@jcrefasi1 That's kind of what I was thinking. Charge only for the rollback to get him to civilization, rather than charging twice (once for the pullout, once for the tow). He'd still be out a bit (operating the ORR does cost)--but the tradeoff is goodwill and you still get the video (which can make some money, though not a lot). Oh, and possibly slightly simpler accounting (why two charges to the same person for the same vehicle?, ask the card companies).
@@erichusmann5145 don't underestimate what YT pays creators based on number of subs and views and advertisement rev. It is a considerable amt. I saw a video by a furniture painter/flipper and she has way less subs than MORR and less comments on her vids and she claims she received a check from YT for several thousand dollars for 1 month at 1 video per week. Sometimes a second one but not every week. No way to verify it but to tell her followers in a video YT could monitor, I'd guess it was the truth. They also have a revenue stream from MORR merchandise. Not saying they don't earn every penny but just don't underestimate YT revenue😁
@@jcrefasi1 sure, but you shouldn’t underestimate what it costs to do this. They often have 2-4 vehicles with up to 8 people he brings along. Every one of those people need to make at least $200/day, maybe much more. And every off rd vehicle like these, probly “costs” $50/hr in fuel and maintenance, and that’s without actual breakdowns.

@@KenLyns Bingo. Fuel pumps are cooled by the fuel they sit in. Constantly running on "E" is a good way to smoke them. It costs just as much to keep your vehicle full as it does empty. Don't be dumb, folks.
I think Matt looks at every job as a challenge and doesn't give up until he defeats the challenge. Its a good way to handle things in his business.
It's a good way to handle any job, really. I meet too many people who chose their job completely of their own free will and make a big fuss every time they have to put in more than a little effort. Just face it as a challenge and be satisfied when the work is done.

On the trail like that, pounding on the fuel tank while someone is cranking the rig can encourage a little more life out of the fuel pump, at least enough to get off the trail. Always worth a shot in a situation like that! Well done btw!
The way the Nissan pickup driver stated "I put a gallon in it" leads me to the conclusion there was no fuel left in that tank...so no, the fuel pump didn't work...
There was plenty of fuel. The fuel pump quit. That's why he got stranded.
Or if it had been running low on gas on that declining terrain, the pump would have been running hot as hell or DRY and pissed it off or burned it out.
@@-HighTide nissan has a problem w the fuel pump valve getting stuck this happened to me and i wacked the bottom of the tank a cupple times w a rock and it worked
@@gaelgarcia6662 I thought the same thing, whack the bottom of the tank with a rubber mallet. Happens on GM products too, the motor stops on a small scorched spot of the commutator. But the guy saying he "put a gallon of gas in it" leads me to believe it's probably mostly empty.

Great to see your humanity. Comping that guy a pull is the kind of thing that got me watching this channel to begin with. Keep up the kind treatment.
I have an Xterra, and I’ve heard on forums not to run below 1/4 tank too often. It’s hard on the fuel pump since it’s not being cooled by surrounding fuel. I’m not sure if this is a Nissan problem or if that’s the case for many vehicles. Based on this guys 1 gallon comment, and general unpreparedness I’d be willing to bet he runs on E quite often.
There are "those people" indeed. For me, when my vehicle hit's half I fill up again.
Not just a Nissan problem Tim…as I got older and older my fuel pumps no longer had issues in my vehicles as I could finally afford to fill it as opposed to 5 bucks here, 10 bucks there …lol

Flip phones were great. Better phones partly because analog was better in remote locations. Darn near indestructible, tiny. If we had one with a really good voice control, a folding screen and no darn glass screen on the outside of it, I'd get another.
For a hound with a grey muzzle Max sure can move, for a Nissan with 2wd system, it sure is a miracle it made it that far.

A gallon in those Nissans barely covers the bottom of the tank, that is why I never let mine go below 1/4 of a tank.
Lets not cut the numbnut any slack, he ran it dry, splashed a gallon in it which didn't wet the bottom! Pumps probably fine.

The driver of the dead nissan sounds like a real fun guy.
Lol, he was a little off.
iam 73 just changed my fuel pump by myself. used a floor jack but also used to web belts tied together to make a longer strap. jacked tank up then ran strap under tanks to secure then removed floor jack and moved tank around to line up
I use to service Toyotas and when a truck had a bad fuel pump I would beat on the gas tank and many times I could get the pump working again. Saved many people a tow.
Always bang on the bottom of the fuel tank, sometimes that will get pump working again.
You have to be turning the engine over at the same time. Just whacking the tank doesn't do it. It needs to be trying to pump.
What I mean is, you can't do it by yourself because the pump shuts down too quickly after trying to prime. You could if you hotwire the relay, but most people wouldn't know how.
Helps if there is sufficient gas in the tank as well. Judging by the comment "I put a gallon in" it suggests he was out of gas, and putting a gallon in wouldn't have got it anywhere near the pump.
When I finally get to Utah I'm going to rent a 2 wheel drive SUV mall crawler and take it down the rockiest most inaccessible canyon while running low on fuel just so I can be like a Californian on vacation.
That made me laugh!
Better idea, just stop by their shop in Hurricane. Unless you really want to pay the tow bill.
We don’t leave California when we go on vacation. No reason to.
If you go directly to the shop, you can probably just buy a hat and a t-shirt. And, maybe one of Matt's yellow recovery ropes. And see the dogs (Lady and Max).
Matt and his team are just good people. Full stop.
Love the van customer very cheerful
When I was a kid I thought my 2 wheel drive F150 would go anywhere. After getting stuck a couple times I bought a 4 wheel drive. Now when I see 2 wheelers where they don't belong I keep my mouth shut.
It’s so cool how Matt and crew don’t give the customers a rashon of crap about what they’ve done.
@@slowridefpv9668 I heard him say once that the people he rescues are usually very down on themselves. He does not want to make that worse, good man.
Classic huh? You feel you can go anywhere with your 2wd until you actually try to go anywhere...😂
@@pablomoreno1999 as my first truck as a teenager, I learned fast. But I did take recovery equipment with me and got out on my own a few times.
@@karlschwaber7006 makes sense I sunk my rig as soon as I bought it, even tho it was 4wd there was some nasty mud and I had really junk tires on with no lift or winch. I spent all night digging out the mud from underneath the thing but it just continued to spin, I felt like an idiot and the guy who came made me feel like more of an idiot. That sucked. Now my rigs done up so nice I havent got stuck in some of the nastiest mud pits
Glad to see Max got paroled from is bunny jail time! I know Lady must be happy to have her buddy back
