My sister and I are fans of the Wizard of Oz. Our coop theme is 'somewhere over the rainbow'. Our ladder is painted in a rainbow. Their roosting bar has a rainbow shower curtain behind it to protect the wall. The walls are painted with sunflowers and daisies (a giant mural that looks like a meadow). Gingham curtain fasteners on their nesting house ext. We used a lot of repurposed materials and painted for months before our first chickens arrived this spring.

I treasure my omlet Eglu Cube and chicken run. With 11 chickens, one coop wasn't enough. I have 2 Eglu Cubes attached to my Omlet walk-in run (6 ft. x 18 ft.). I use PDZ Refresher in the poop trays. It's similar to kitty litter. In fact, I use a kitty litter scoop from the Dollar Tree to remove the poop every day or two. To remove the poop from both Eglu Cube coop takes a leisurely 6 minutes; yes, I've timed it. I much prefer the coop attached to a walk-in run than I do chicken tractor. First, I like sitting and interacting with my flock. Second, the walk-in run provides more space for the chickens.

We love our Omlet. You’re telling the truth. I clean it daily and it takes me 15-20 minutes and I’m 70 years old! We have made our location permanent and added 20 by 20 run to it. We live in the mtns of NC and moving the Omlet was hard for me.

Woohoo!!! You are so fortunate to be given an Eglu!
Everyone on a group site raked me over the coals for having one.
Yes, I can only have 6 hens. I’m still giving away eggs and it’s winter!
My hubs got me an Eglu as a gift and I like it but we had to add the pen. Kaching, kaching.
And, I still want a yard like yours so I don’t have to free range several days a week.
Moving what we have will be difficult. It’s staying in one place for the winter.
Yes, it takes daily cleaning of the tray to keep moisture down, I had an issue with frostbitten combs just tossing the bedding and adding zeolite so I scoop poop once a day and add more bedding. Then, wipe the roosting rack and inside walls. Takes 10 minutes and no more comb issues.
I use Force of Nature and it’s disinfected, too.
I take the perch rack out and really clean that top and bottom once a month.
No issues with mites and mice!
Only my first year with it but it seems to be working okay.
I STILL WANT A CHICKEN YARD!!
Love you, Dalia!! Got your book!!

WoW! Omlet really hooked you up and that is amazing! I have one of their larger coops as well as a larger coop that we had made and the Omlet coop has been flawless. We also have the automatic doors on both coops and they are so easy to work and so reliable and completely game changing. Plus the batteries only need to be changed like 2x a year and even less if you don't have the coop light! The only times I have had problems were totally my fault 🤦‍♀️ I am so glad they sponsored you and I agree you HAVE really made it when you get their attention! 👏
I have been watching you for years and I love your videos and your bubbly, infectious, joyful personality and sweet vulnerability. I wish I lived closer so we could be chicken friends 😂 Thank you for the continued friendly backyard chicken education!

Hi Dalia! I live in northern New Brunswick Canada and I have the Eglu cube coop with the long run. I am a first time chicken tender of 6 hens. I researched for months for a coop that was not only suitable for my hens but for me as well. I work full time and wanted something easy to clean and maintain. I searched and searched and kept coming back to the Eglu coop. It’s been up and running since last May and I have not one bad thing to say about it. It sits stationary for the winter but in the summer, I move the run every week so my chickens get fresh grass and they love their little home. It was a large investment but totally worth it. I too have had zero issues with mites or lice. My next investment will be the automatic door. BTW I love your new sign with Philippe on it. So cute! ❤

Omlet coops are awesome! CONGRATS!🥳That is a huge deal! I have used them for years and all of roos and chickens love them, even the bantams. You are right about it being super easy to clean. I have had lots of wooden coops in the past and there really is no comparison simply because of the ease of cleaning. I love the look of wooden coops but the ability to clean fast hands down outweighs the look of the coop! Happy for you and the chickens! ❤

Agreed! The ease of cleaning Omlet coops is the BEST. And no mites, lice to contend with. While wooden coops can be "cute," I'll take the practicality of an Omlet coop every time. (I am having to build a wooden coop for my small 4 ft. x 8 ft. run that is intended for isolating chickens when necessary.)

We LOVE our 2 Eglu Coops with attached runs! They have improved the lower run grate spacing. I am very glad that they did as we had an issue with the old spacing and have since covered our entire run area with hardware cloth as a fox was able to get his paw in between the grate and severely injure one of our girls. That being said we still LOVE our Eglu and plan to get a 3rd one next year to grow our flock. They are so easy to move and cleaning is a breeze. We also have the automatic door opener and that is amazing. The company is very easy to work with and have been very very helpful with any questions or inquires. HIGHLY RECOMMEND. My only wish is that they would make a larger coop for more girls, that would make my heart sing and my flock grow even more! LOL Thank you for featuring them on your channel. Honestly the grass in my run is a bit of a miracle! I think I just have a lot of chickens that aren’t great at foraging lol. Lots of special needs and older gals. And many that are very tiny. I don't decorate my Omlet Eglu Cube coops, but my Omlet 6 ft. x 18 ft. walk-in run I've personalized a good bit:
    1. I've zip tied bamboo to the short end of the run which faces west. The bamboo provides shade from the hot afternoon summer sun. Although the run is in my backyard, I have a road (and an elementary school playground) behind my house meaning I have essentially 2 front yards. The bamboo is very natural looking and "hides" the run from passersby. (There's an ever-expanding stand of bamboo just 2 yards south of me, so I have access to lots of bamboo!)
    2. Potted plants & wind chimes: I hang both from the heftier frames that are above the run. By running a long bamboo stick from one side of the run to the other. I hang potted plants the part of the bamboo sticks that protrude beyond the frame of the run. I have visions of more potted plants, especially beneficial herbs. By hanging them, the chickens can't get too them. Still when I want to feed them herbs, I could give them a pot to devour while more hanging pots are growing more herbs.
    3. Maggot bucket: This might not qualify as "decorating," but I created a maggot bucket from a plastic coffee container. (On RUclips search for "maggot bucket" and you'll see what I mean.)
    4. Cinder blocks: I run 4x4s through cinder blocks to create an elevated "balance beam". The chickens have no problem balancing and walking on it, but the term is a good visual descriptor. Also, the chickens can sharpen their beaks my rubbing their beaks on the cinder blocks.
    5. Nesting boxes: Each Omlet Eglu Cube has a LARGE nesting box; easily fits 2 standard size hens. With 10 laying hens, I decided to repurpose 2 kitty litter boxes (by Tidy Cats) into DIY nesting boxes. Every day 1-2 eggs are laid in one of them. Guess the other is decorative only! 😂
    6. "Rescued" a large dog igloo from someone's trash. It provides an excellent area of protection from inclement weather.
    7. I have a chair so I can sit with my flock. I lean it against the side of the run so poop doesn't land where I sit!
    8. I made a DIY feeder from a translucent storage box. It's anchored to part of the "balance beam" mentioned in #4. It can hold a 50 lbs. bag of feed. Add a couple of extra waterers, and I feel comfortable leaving my flock for 2-4 days without anyone checking on them. Longer than that, I want someone to clean the poop trays (a real breeze with the Omlet coops) and to collect the eggs.

In spring of 2020 we got our chickens as days old chicks and my hubby found Omlet coops and we ordered one, the cube, and we started with 4 chicks and a month later got 3 more. Well by the time that the cold weather started they were all about 5-6 months old and we had gotten a 9x6 foot run for them and they loved it. But they attacked and killed my Bok-Bok. (They were all jealous that she was my favorite). So now we had 6 chickens. We decided they needed more room so we bought additional pieces and added 3x9 so now we had a 9x9 run. Last year my hubby got a dog kennel that was 10x15 and built them a big coop. This year two more of my girls died. Now im back to 4. Im thinking that unless we get more in the spring I might just rebuild the omlet run and put them back in the Omlet coop. Our chickens are full sized chickens so with 6 the cube was a bit small for them but with 4 i think thats a good size and we have the winter insulated wrap so even here in the North East they will probably stay warmer easier. My next goal is to find them a Christmas tree to add a bit of enrichment for them.
Something else I think about. When they were in the Omlet coop we had some mice now and again but this year we have RATS in our yard and they are always getting into the run. They dug tunnels under our skirting and have made themselves at home. Trying to find ways of getting rid of them but there are so many people with chickens in my neighborhood that I dont know how to get them out and gone for good! I will say in the spring i will plant mint all over the place.

Oh I’m so sorry about the rats. You might consider adopting a cat to live with your chickens (as long as they’re large fowl and not bantams). And make extra sure not to leave food around over night. ❤️

@@WelcometoChickenlandia thank you! We have begun to bring the food out of the run and put it in a steel garbage pail where we keep the food and snacks etc. I wish we could have a cat to chase the rats but we live in a very busy road and I couldn’t take the chance it would get hit by a car. We have some yard clean up we need to do as well to discourage the little buggars and in the spring we are going to dig down 2-3 feet next to the run and place sheet metal and encase the whole thing in hardware cloth. I was also thinking of adding the Omlet run to the end of the dog run to limit the space available for rodents to get into the run as the dog run has a sizable space in the door area. The other idea was to remove the dog run and just build a structure that we can also winterize easier and put a solid roof on but we may need to hire someone as I recently had spinal surgery and will be limited for a year and my hubby is also looking at possible surgery in his near future. Uggh lol. I appreciate your ideas with much thanks. Also I love your channel. You always have such good ideas and are very real about what it’s like to be a chicken parent. Happiest of Holiday’s to you and yours.

How many chickens/ ducks do you have total and how big is your 1st run and outter run?
I love what you did with all of that and that would be a dream of mine to do something similar for my run. I’m trying to plan the run out. So trying to figure out size, etc. we have a lot of land so I’d like mine huge! 😃

Dalia, do you think it would be stressful for chickens to hear a fox digging and scratching around their coop at night? I'm seriously considering getting four chickens and no expense will be spared in predator proofing their coop, run and garden, but I know there are foxes and this is truly the one issue i'm struggling with...! Do predators keep trying to get in?

    • @WelcometoChickenlandia
      @WelcometoChickenlandia  6 месяцев назад

If the foxes can’t get in, they will give up after a while. The chickens shouldn’t be super bothered by it as long as it’s at night and the fox never gets in! ❤️

Dalia, I'm curious if you have a problem with snaring wild birds in the aviary netting? I'm contemplating using it, but somebody said I would have to watch for birds getting tangled in it.

    • @WelcometoChickenlandia
      @WelcometoChickenlandia  2 месяца назад

No, I’ve only ever had one deceased bird on the netting and she was not stuck in it so I’m not sure what happened. Perhaps she was dropped by a hawk or something. I believe it’s advertised as “bird safe” if I’m remembering correctly.
