In college, we did lots of testing with birds to find out how to train them. What we were actually doing was stressing the living heck out of the birds to get them to do what WE wanted them to do. Ultimately the birds could not function because EVERYTHING stressed them. I hated doing that, so when I had chickens they had LOTS of enrichment. They got composted horse manure piled in the run. Sometimes they got masses of shredded papers. Always hanging fruit and vegs. If I got really cheap yogurt I froze it for them. I made them rope swings and changed them around. They were very happy to get parts of hay bales. I found a lady farmer who would sell me her really old or rotting bales. It was especially good in winter. I roasted bones then boiled them to give the birds warm grain in the winter. You could hear them purring while the enjoyed. Stale bread was available in huge bags(20lb). I could save it in winter to add to the broth. Even in winter they liked frozen treats. Also I made a big swing for the girls in the winter hen house. There was never a time I went there in the winter that some one wasn't swinging. I looked at toys for large parrots and got ideas and made my own. I loved to make my fowl folk happy. It gave me a chance to be resourceful and creative as well as being more relaxed. Something to keep in mind is you can't MAKE chicken like you. What they feel and act upon is honest love and friendship. Chickens have no idea how to be fakes.

I’m lucky to have 5 acres and my chickens free range during the day. They really are busy little creatures. My turkeys are just waltzing around slow and purposeful. My chickens are running around non stop from place to place like they each had a can of Redbull for breakfast 😆🤣
Yep, I have 3 acres myself and due to having three amazing lgds and an awesome rooster, mine are able to free range as well. Plus most of this property is wooded it anyway so if they start feeling nervous that can go in under the trees. The only thing I hate about it is I've got one hen that hatches out a couple more babies every week or so LOL and she's always surrounded and I lose track of how many she's supposed to have so when they disappeared one thing or another I don't notice. But they have their own little community and you're asking about laying eggs everywhere they have a place that they're used to laying in since they were old enough to start laying and all last winter and they will go there to lay their eggs and then just come back out and go back to doing what they were doing. :-)
@@steph6337 Hi. My hens have 2 acres to free range in. I have only had 1 hen lay an egg in my other chicken coop one time (I have 2) but normally they lay in their own coop in their favorite box 😁.
Been dealing with the same problem! Unfortunately neighbors will probably never move. They inherited the land and we have lost some birds due to their dogs.
Maybe rub a rabbit’s foot next time or find a 4 leaf clover. If that fails, cast a spell with ur mind, which is what u claim to do in prayer. Lol Ur neighbors moved, but it was NOT from telekinesis with an invisible super being.
as someone who lives in a 3 acre yard where chickens are frequent visitors - i’d encourage you to add piles of leaves (especially dry leaves) to their foraging areas. it’s always a delight to watch the chickens scratch through the leaves for the bugs that reside inside. under our flowering bushes a lot of oak leaves gather and it’s an excellent opportunity for them to scratch up some protein rich snacks. if there’s a dusty area in your yard, letting the chickens fluff the dust into their feathers is amazing enrichment and how they stay parasite free ❤️
Love the cabbage/lettuce holder! We are on a small space, so we have gone to deep bedding (6" of bedding) in the chicken yard and coop. They enjoy scratching through the bedding. We also supplement their feed with most of the weeds from the garden beds as well as left over salad greens. When planting for this fall, we'll have a "chicken bed" where all the produce goes to support the ladies.
Love the video. Lots of great information. Something totally unrelated, one thing we do to help with preventing bumble foot is to take the rubber no slip pads that you put in cabinet drawers. we wrap it around the roosting bars and staple underneath. It's cheap and makes a big difference.
Being a bird rescue this is probably not an answer you'd give, but after too much stress on my two lowest pecking order hens (food guarding and feather picking) and trying the week long night time separation and day time restricted area twice, I finally rehomed the bully hen and we're all doing so much better. Of course she was the real beauty but I sacrificed beauty for peace.
my girls love their salad bar and cabbage! I am going to add the fallen branches for places to hide. I've also added an old step stool, old tire, and old end table which they climb on. I want to make the old tire another salad bar.
Describing the chickenyard as a place of peace shamed me. This morning, Goldie started her nonstop kvetching like a machine-gun dentist drill. I coddled her to no avail. When Roo jumped in and they started fighting, I just lost it. I grabbed them both and was screeching like a psycho--in front of the peeps! I put them in different places and went inside to sob it out. Now I feel awful for scaring them.
Awww don't feel bad! We all have our moments. One time I got super frustrated at one of my chickens for bawking non-stop when I was trying to record. So I snapped at her. It wasn't awful, but it was awful enough for me to be super embarrassed when I watched it on VIDEO! You're a great chicken mom.
Please don’t be upset at me for this, but hahahahahahahahaha! I just love it when people share that they are real human beings instead of emotionless perfectly behaved little drones. I think screeching in protection of others does the soul good sometimes and gives the rest of us some much needed humor outlets. But that might just be me. Sorry if so.

I just added a extended run that's about 100 square feet for my six hens. Their original run is 500 square feet. I seeded grass and planted herbs for them so by fall the grass and herbs will be established and they can have at it. I don't have any problems so far in my flock but I still want them to have as much enjoyable space as possible. I love my chickens 🐔 ❤️ 😍

I found cabbage holders on amazon that are like a net bag that hangs with a caribeaner (sp?). I can put cabbage or lettuce in it, but I can also stuff it full of greens and vegetation. They love it!

I have had some rough days lately, and I think keeping chicken was one of the best things I did for myself. @@bobo102458 I have a little table and chairs by my run and we sit out there for hours on end, just watching and enjoying our girls. It's so peaceful. Recently my mom and aunt came for a visit (they were raised on a farm) and they just laughed and laughed and took pictures of my table and chairs and said they have never seen anyone do that. I said I LOVE my chickens and they really bring us peace and joy.
I think she uses a whole seed mix from scratch and peck. I use lentils, whole oats, wheat berries and sunflower seeds. I soak the seed over night before sewing in the salad bar. My hardware mesh is about 3 to 4 inches up from the soil. In some areas I have to put a block of wood under the mesh to keep it up off the soil. I don't seed the entire bar at once, but rather in a few days of succession plantings. Another thing you can do is just sprout the seed on your kitchen counter and then just feed them the sprouts!

We are trying to introduce six new grown hens to our existing, remaining flock of four. They are quarantined now but will hopefully be introducing them in a week or so. I have a question: how do you keep your yard so beautiful and green? Our chickens have destroyed the lawn in their area. We have (had, but that is another story) 12 hens in an area about 2400ft2 (up to 2900 ft2 when we open another area in the spring and summer) One area is very overgrown and they avoid it for some reason (tall wolf grasses and weeds) and the other area is now barren dirt. I can’t imagine putting down hardware mesh in the whole area? Thank you!!
I live in a bourough and am not allowed to free range. However, I rearrange everything once aweek like you suggested in another video. Works like a charm. Also, I sprinkle DE in coop, run and in feed never had parasite issues.
I’m in central Alabama and we have so many hawks during the day that I would never let my chickens free range. At night we have everything except maybe wolves. We even have the occasional bear (!!!) wander through. I’m in a small city 20 miles south of Birmingham. So we have to be very careful day & night!
Our Air Space has implemented a No Fly Zone Heaven High and Sheol Deep, we have had as many as 3 at once 1 in the Air 1 on the ground & 1 sitting on my Picnic table watching me point the Childs Training 410 single shot at it as it went to Sheol that day and it's brother on the ground number 3 got away that day. Though they have tons of netted coverage hawk protection still come around. Every once in a while I lose when a bird doesn't get into the coop overnight and Owls might find it.
One of my barred rocks name has been changed to prisoner zero because she spends so much time in jail for bullying. Its amazing how peaceful things are when she is in lockup. Every time i catch her in the act i lock her up and add a day to her sentence. If the current 10 day sentence doesn’t stop her, there is a good possibility she will be going off to freezer camp. I hate it but sometimes you have to remove the problem. The others live in fear of her, And i can’t allow it to continue.
We just got our chickens and I think we have a bully. Once I figure out who it is, it’s a wrap. It’s too stressful for me to see the smaller ones getting beat up, badly I should add.
We had a bully roster,we got a realy huge cage.he could see all the birds.he then would hang out with my husband , watching tv,sitting in his lap .we fell in love with him.he thought he was a person not a chicken .his personality bloomed.some just don't want to hang out with the other birds!
My chickens have a large coop and very large runs but still have a few bullies 2 hens and 1 roo bully others I also live our in the middle of no where wirh plenty of space for them
I have been looking for a lettuce or cabbage head holder like that one. Where did you find that! I must get one! My poop is sand in the bottom, but they spend most of their time out running around in the yard. But in the winter time they need something like that cuz I know they get bored!

I hope it is ok to do so. I am brand new to being a chicken mama, my girls are just heading to 3 months old. With the 4th of July approaching, there will be MANY fireworks around me. Will I need to do anything special to help my hens get through it or do you think they will be ok with the noise? I just think it is going to affect them somehow and I do not want to see them get so frightened that something bad would happen to them. I appreciate any suggestions!

And Ping was my cuddle baby, then he remembered he’s a rooster, hates red yellow orange . He’ll draw blood! My husband’s favorites, he holds Ping every night, me, I let hub deal with his roosters. 🤣🤣My chickens run on 1/2 acre. We have about 30 and my hens are bullies!! 2 older ISA hens rule the yard, then my lohmann & barred rock are just mean. MY HUSBAND Calls him the switchblade gang. My new babies for this year some of them are getting chased but I don’t put them in until they’re pretty good size about 14 weeks old. It’s been so hot this year that everything is going pretty good so far I hope it continues.My chickens are spoiled. I love Bak Bak bouquet!

I have been being watching some of your videos as I have unexpectedly become a chicken keeper. A Chicken (Henzie) has adopted us. No idea where she came from and my neighbors have not claimed her either so, now we have a chicken. Her comb and wattle are a bit pale but she seems to be happy. Very active and lets me know when she is displeased. She laid one egg so far, that was on Tuesday but nothing since then. Though I am not sure how often she has laid before. All of the videos I have watched so far have been very informative. Thank you for posting all of this information.
I believe in feeding as naturally as possible and to always have fodder for them. I feed soldier fly larvae in the summer and mealworms in winter. I try to give my girls as much enrichment as possible and plenty of climbing and perching as I can.

I live on 3 quarter acre lot. I built a 5x 10 house with run Then I built a PVC 8 by 8 convertible for the girls. But they still stressed a bit. But that's the way I got them.

I have a chicken who is two years old, who has had severe diarrhea for the last three weeks! she has no other symptoms in none of my 16 other chickens have diarrhea! I have added herbs and poultry cell and rooster booster to their water. I do not see any worms in the poop ! And none of them have mites . could she have some type of illness that is not spreading to the other chickens? i’m at a loss here! Any idea what could be happening? I live in PA. Fellow PacNW-er, I’ve been keeping 🐓 🐓🐥🐥🐥for only 2-3yrs, just a small flock, and one thing I have learned is no matter how optimal you make it, and I’m always trying new things, there will always be a◼️🐑 in the flock!😂
I wish i could let my birds free range. We have a massive haris hawk that nests nearby and we have a few tiny falcons. Ive tried leaving treats out for crows and that helps but we have quite the raptor population here. They at least have a large coop and a modest run.
I have a question! My chicken coop is just dirt. We originally built it on a grassy area, but my chickens have somehow destroyed it. I've tried to plant other plants in their coop, but they have successfully demolished them from existence. I was wondering if you have any tips on how to keep grass growing in the chicken run/area. Hi, Cinnamon! If they are confined to their run area then they will continue to destroy anything you try and plant in there. You can install something called "Chicken Salad Bars", though, like what I talk about in the video! :-)
@@BronsteinEmily Amaranth, marigolds, herbs like Basil, oregano, mint, thyme, sage and Lemongrass. They also get weeds and scraps from our gardens daily, several times a day.
I just have three jerks, doesn’t matter what I do, the only thing I can think of is they are the largest chickens in the run(also can’t really rehome so they are smaller than the other chickens because they are pretty well the largest breed in the world
Hi Dalia I need your help. One of my chickens have flystrike. I've soaked and cleaned her and several maggots came out. This was yesterday. She's still a little lethargic and I have separated her from the rest of the flock. I don't see anymore on her but I don't know if they went in her vent. I sprayed the dead tissue with antiseptic but I don't know what else to do. Please help. 🙏
Ugh I'm so sorry. That is the worst. I would continue to clean and treat the area with an antiseptic daily. I will speak to my Presidential Advisor but beyond that I'm not sure if there's much else you can do. I have totally seen chickens overcome it, though!!

I think the reason is because I thought she was egg bound so I soaked her initially in Epsom salts for 15 minutes, that's when I noticed the wound and maggots. I did it again the next day. No worms. I then treated the area with poultry antiseptic spray and threw diatomaceous earth on her butt. Today is the fourth day with no signs of infestation. I treated her this morning with a quick soak , antiseptic spray and DE and released her from chicken hospital. I will continue to monitor all my chickens and will regularly clean her butt. Could you do a video on this? I did all the research when I decided to get chickens and never heard of this. Thanks again.
The cabbage ball seems fun! But my first thought was wouldn't it be better if it were left on the ground so that it would roll and they'd have fun and exercise running after it?
At least 85%-90% of the bullying and or pecking order shenanigans is at night when they go to roost. The girls pick on each other until it gets dark enough. Very frustrating because there is plenty of room. I have even spaced out the roosts so that they can't reach each other easily. Another issue is that all of them just have to roost on the very top roost.
How do you keep your outdoor chicken area green? My 8 chickens have completely denuded their yard which is big enough for over 50…(I will never have that many!) They go through the chicken salad bar as soon as anything is reachable. They have free feed and get fresh greens every afternoon… AND a hung cabbage or melon every few days. It has to be a secret you know??
I let my hens free range,lock up at night.Although I have a large hen house. I keep less in the coop than what can be kept. Holds 100 hens but I have 50. clean dry coops with good ventilation. I clean the coops I spray for lice and mites.I also give veggies suet and high protein. I had chickens since 1972. I learned from many mistakes.One is over crowding.

I don't know the answer but the place where I get the chicken food would probably be able to point me in the right direction. Do you have a feed store you may ask?
Salmonella is a colonized bug. It can always be around. It lives on the shell - wash the shells before cracking the eggs, and cook eggs firm. The kids may be intolerant to chicken eggs. Some ppl who cannot eat chicken eggs can eat duck eggs.

That's tough, I'm sorry. I had that same issue. I was able to find aprons my hens tolerated on Amazon. I would try the aprons again. My hens pick at them for a bit but then leave them alone.

I had a nightmare for a neighbor. I couldn’t sell my house and move. So I prayed about it and they moved ! You can’t always get out of a situation

I put diatomaceous earth food grade in their food for worms etc, .and in their dust bath...

Describing the chickenyard as a place of peace shamed me. This morning, Goldie started her nonstop kvetching like a machine-gun dentist drill. I coddled her to no avail. When Roo jumped in and they started fighting, I just lost it. I grabbed them both and was screeching like a psycho--in front of the peeps! I put them in different places and went inside to sob it out. Now I feel awful for scaring them.
Awww don't feel bad! We all have our moments. One time I got super frustrated at one of my chickens for bawking non-stop when I was trying to record. So I snapped at her. It wasn't awful, but it was awful enough for me to be super embarrassed when I watched it on VIDEO! You're a great chicken mom.

Please don’t be upset at me for this, but hahahahahahahahaha! I just love it when people share that they are real human beings instead of emotionless perfectly behaved little drones. I think screeching in protection of others does the soul good sometimes and gives the rest of us some much needed humor outlets. But that might just be me. Sorry if so.

I just added a extended run that's about 100 square feet for my six hens. Their original run is 500 square feet. I seeded grass and planted herbs for them so by fall the grass and herbs will be established and they can have at it. I don't have any problems so far in my flock but I still want them to have as much enjoyable space as possible. I love my chickens 🐔 ❤️ 😍

I found cabbage holders on amazon that are like a net bag that hangs with a caribeaner (sp?). I can put cabbage or lettuce in it, but I can also stuff it full of greens and vegetation. They love it!

Thank you so much for this video President. I can relate so well to the part where you say you find peace when you are with your chicken. I have had some rough days lately, and I think keeping chicken was one of the best things I did for myself. It was quite a bit, building a chicken coop from scratch, taking care of sick chicken, separating bullies ..... but it was all worth it. And your videos have helped me so much 🙂

I have a little table and chairs by my run and we sit out there for hours on end, just watching and enjoying our girls. It's so peaceful. Recently my mom and aunt came for a visit (they were raised on a farm) and they just laughed and laughed and took pictures of my table and chairs and said they have never seen anyone do that. I said I LOVE my chickens and they really bring us peace and joy.
What are the greens that you grow in the chicken salad beds and what is the distance between the top of the dirt and the hardware cloth?

I think she uses a whole seed mix from scratch and peck.
I use lentils, whole oats, wheat berries and sunflower seeds. I soak the seed over night before sewing in the salad bar. My hardware mesh is about 3 to 4 inches up from the soil. In some areas I have to put a block of wood under the mesh to keep it up off the soil. I don't seed the entire bar at once, but rather in a few days of succession plantings.
Another thing you can do is just sprout the seed on your kitchen counter and then just feed them the sprouts!

This video could not have been more timely. We are trying to introduce six new grown hens to our existing, remaining flock of four. They are quarantined now but will hopefully be introducing them in a week or so.
I have a question: how do you keep your yard so beautiful and green? Our chickens have destroyed the lawn in their area. We have (had, but that is another story) 12 hens in an area about 2400ft2 (up to 2900 ft2 when we open another area in the spring and summer) One area is very overgrown and they avoid it for some reason (tall wolf grasses and weeds) and the other area is now barren dirt. I can’t imagine putting down hardware mesh in the whole area? Thank you!!
I live in a bourough and am not allowed to free range. However, I rearrange everything once aweek like you suggested in another video. Works like a charm. Also, I sprinkle DE in coop, run and in feed never had parasite issues.
I had a little chicken for a bit..I got baby toys from yard sales and she loved them.
I’m in central Alabama and we have so many hawks during the day that I would never let my chickens free range. At night we have everything except maybe wolves. We even have the occasional bear (!!!) wander through. I’m in a small city 20 miles south of Birmingham. So we have to be very careful day & night!
Our Air Space has implemented a No Fly Zone Heaven High and Sheol Deep, we have had as many as 3 at once 1 in the Air 1 on the ground & 1 sitting on my Picnic table watching me point the Childs Training 410 single shot at it as it went to Sheol that day and it's brother on the ground number 3 got away that day.
Though they have tons of netted coverage hawk protection still come around.
Every once in a while I lose when a bird doesn't get into the coop overnight and Owls might find it.

One of my barred rocks name has been changed to prisoner zero because she spends so much time in jail for bullying. Its amazing how peaceful things are when she is in lockup. Every time i catch her in the act i lock her up and add a day to her sentence. If the current 10 day sentence doesn’t stop her, there is a good possibility she will be going off to freezer camp. I hate it but sometimes you have to remove the problem. The others live in fear of her, And i can’t allow it to continue.
We just got our chickens and I think we have a bully. Once I figure out who it is, it’s a wrap. It’s too stressful for me to see the smaller ones getting beat up, badly I should add.
We had a bully roster,we got a realy huge cage.he could see all the birds.he then would hang out with my husband , watching tv,sitting in his lap .we fell in love with him.he thought he was a person not a chicken .his personality bloomed.some just don't want to hang out with the other birds!
Update: I’m up to around 60 hens now with 6 roosters. Poncho (prisoner zero) quickly turned around and became one of the flock.
I use the plastic silverware cages from dishwashers as vegetable & greens treat holders.

I have been looking for a lettuce or cabbage head holder like that one. Where did you find that! I must get one! My poop is sand in the bottom, but they spend most of their time out running around in the yard. But in the winter time they need something like that cuz I know they get bored!

Absolutely LOVE your youtube videos and everything you do! (I have a youtube channel myself). I do have a question and could not figure out where to post it, so thought I would here. I hope it is ok to do so. I am brand new to being a chicken mama, my girls are just heading to 3 months old. With the 4th of July approaching, there will be MANY fireworks around me. Will I need to do anything special to help my hens get through it or do you think they will be ok with the noise? I just think it is going to affect them somehow and I do not want to see them get so frightened that something bad would happen to them. I appreciate any suggestions!
You are looking well slept and quite pretty today dear. I have a bantam rooster, lives with his brother and a bubbles, the frizzle! And Ping was my cuddle baby, then he remembered he’s a rooster, hates red yellow orange . He’ll draw blood! My husband’s favorites, he holds Ping every night, me, I let hub deal with his roosters.

🤣🤣My chickens run on 1/2 acre. We have about 30 and my hens are bullies!! 2 older ISA hens rule the yard, then my lohmann & barred rock are just mean. MY HUSBAND Calls him the switchblade gang. My new babies for this year some of them are getting chased but I don’t put them in until they’re pretty good size about 14 weeks old. It’s been so hot this year that everything is going pretty good so far I hope it continues.My chickens are spoiled. I love Bak Bak bouquet!

I have been being watching some of your videos as I have unexpectedly become a chicken keeper. A Chicken (Henzie) has adopted us. No idea where she came from and my neighbors have not claimed her either so, now we have a chicken. Her comb and wattle are a bit pale but she seems to be happy. Very active and lets me know when she is displeased. She laid one egg so far, that was on Tuesday but nothing since then. Though I am not sure how often she has laid before. All of the videos I have watched so far have been very informative.

I believe in feeding as naturally as possible and to always have fodder for them. I feed soldier fly larvae in the summer and mealworms in winter. I try to give my girls as much enrichment as possible and plenty of climbing and perching as I can.

I was hoping maybe I could pick your brain a little bit ! I have a chicken who is two years old, who has had severe diarrhea for the last three weeks! she has no other symptoms in none of my 16 other chickens have diarrhea! I have added herbs and poultry cell and rooster booster to their water.
I do not see any worms in the poop !
And none of them have mites . could she have some type of illness that is not spreading to the other chickens? i’m at a loss here! Any idea what could be happening? I live in PA. They have a 100% draft free, very secure, coop also.
Fellow PacNW-er, I’ve been keeping 🐓 🐓🐥🐥🐥for only 2-3yrs, just a small flock, and one thing I have learned is no matter how optimal you make it, and I’m always trying new things, there will always be a◼️🐑 in the flock!😂
Question: can you safely put a clay base cat litter in the dust bath? I use a bag of soil, DE, and wood ash in a large tire.
I wish i could let my birds free range. We have a massive haris hawk that nests nearby and we have a few tiny falcons. Ive tried leaving treats out for crows and that helps but we have quite the raptor population here. They at least have a large coop and a modest run.

I have a question! My chicken coop is just dirt. We originally built it on a grassy area, but my chickens have somehow destroyed it. I've tried to plant other plants in their coop, but they have successfully demolished them from existence. I was wondering if you have any tips on how to keep grass growing in the chicken run/area. Hi, Cinnamon! If they are confined to their run area then they will continue to destroy anything you try and plant in there. You can install something called "Chicken Salad Bars", though, like what I talk about in the video! :-)

@@BronsteinEmily Amaranth, marigolds, herbs like Basil, oregano, mint, thyme, sage and Lemongrass. They also get weeds and scraps from our gardens daily, several times a day.
I just have three jerks, doesn’t matter what I do, the only thing I can think of is they are the largest chickens in the run(also can’t really rehome so they are smaller than the other chickens because they are pretty well the largest breed in the world
Hi Dalia I need your help. One of my chickens have flystrike. I've soaked and cleaned her and several maggots came out. This was yesterday. She's still a little lethargic and I have separated her from the rest of the flock. I don't see anymore on her but I don't know if they went in her vent. I sprayed the dead tissue with antiseptic but I don't know what else to do. Please help. 🙏
Ugh I'm so sorry. That is the worst. I would continue to clean and treat the area with an antiseptic daily. I will speak to my Presidential Advisor but beyond that I'm not sure if there's much else you can do. I have totally seen chickens overcome it, though!!

I think the reason is because I thought she was egg bound so I soaked her initially in Epsom salts for 15 minutes, that's when I noticed the wound and maggots. I did it again the next day. No worms. I then treated the area with poultry antiseptic spray and threw diatomaceous earth on her butt. Today is the fourth day with no signs of infestation. I treated her this morning with a quick soak , antiseptic spray and DE and released her from chicken hospital. I will continue to monitor all my chickens and will regularly clean her butt. Could you do a video on this? I did all the research when I decided to get chickens and never heard of this. Thanks again.

The cabbage ball seems fun! But my first thought was wouldn't it be better if it were left on the ground so that it would roll and they'd have fun and exercise running after it?
At least 85%-90% of the bullying and or pecking order shenanigans is at night when they go to roost. The girls pick on each other until it gets dark enough. Very frustrating because there is plenty of room. I have even spaced out the roosts so that they can't reach each other easily. Another issue is that all of them just have to roost on the very top roost.
I talk to my 7 chikes flock especially when they fight i be like stop it you 2 hey hey stop leave her alone 😂😂and it's just peacefull 🙏🏻🙏🏻
I used Peepers for my Bully chickens.. for 6 days .. now they all group up together even though they are 6 months apart.
Its not peaceful there...Phillipe is there!!!😂...Poor Phillipe..we miss him!!
How do you keep your outdoor chicken area green? My 8 chickens have completely denuded their yard which is big enough for over 50…(I will never have that many!) They go through the chicken salad bar as soon as anything is reachable. They have free feed and get fresh greens every afternoon… AND a hung cabbage or melon every few days. It has to be a secret you know??
I let my hens free range,lock up at night.Although I have a large hen house. I keep less in the coop than what can be kept. Holds 100 hens but I have 50. clean dry coops with good ventilation. I clean the coops I spray for lice and mites.I also give veggies suet and high protein. I had chickens since 1972. I learned from many mistakes.One is over crowding.

Does salmonella stay in chickens forever? Is there any treatment? My kids are so upset and we don’t want to give them away. Raising chickens for the first time
I don't know the answer but the place where I get the chicken food would probably be able to point me in the right direction. Do you have a feed store you may ask?
Salmonella is a colonized bug. It can always be around. It lives on the shell - wash the shells before cracking the eggs, and cook eggs firm.
The kids may be intolerant to chicken eggs. Some ppl who cannot eat chicken eggs can eat duck eggs.
Yes you can get salmonella from chickens. That's why you should ALWAYS wash your hands after handling them.

my city chickens have access to my whole backyard....i really want to build a run for them when i have guests over and chickens you know...poop and ask us for food lol. I am at a loss for building materials and ideas
What should I do if my rooster always grab and mate my hens and cause severe feather damaging problems? My hens do not like to wear saddles also.
That's tough, I'm sorry. I had that same issue. I was able to find aprons my hens tolerated on Amazon. I would try the aprons again. My hens pick at them for a bit but then leave them alone.
