- Dan Worrall takes a closer look at Tokyo Dawn Labs' "Molot" dynamic range processor series.
Molot GE is a particularly characterful dynamic range compressor melding several classic compression mechanisms with sophisticated saturation, creative tone control, and a snappy peak limiter. Whether it be mellow leveling, tight dynamic control, or aggressively vibrant compression, Molot GE covers a remarkable wide range of compression colors.

Molotok, is a free version of TDR Molot GE. Both share the same algorithms, molotok offers a simplified and intuitive control set.

I only start using plugins after Dan tells me everything I should know in 20 minutes.
Ok
Right!? I love Dan's videos. I'll even watch them if I don't even own the plugin because they're so informative (and relaxing)! 🤣
Dan Worrall isTDR's best marketing strategy!
yes.
MVP
Seriously! After watching Dan explain the new filter pack, I ended up buying every TDR plugin except SimuLathe!
The best company with magnificent plugins ⚡💎🔥
The coolest thing about this plugin is that no matter how it is set it plays nice ragga hip hop🙃
Ah yes yes, TDR and DW, my kind of TV...I can binge watch your plugins introductions anytime
I just discovered that hovering the mouse over the VU meter and scrolling with the mouse wheeel changes the scale of the meter values. Fun!
When I thought I started to understand compression they come up with this... It's like alien language :D
13:12 me thinking "it would be great to have a settings transport function" ... 13:23 Dan showing "copy setting from Molotok to Molot GE". This function shows how great TDR simply is. So well layed out. Provides everything you really need. I will buy the TDR Everything Upgrade today.
Guys from TDR are incredible people, not only their plugins are very useful and well thought out, they also release them for entirely free! What a selfless and great bunch!
Thanks Dan. Another informative video. We appreciate you!
There is just SO MUCH brilliant information in these vids.
Killer engineering information and tips,
Thank you DW and TDR
Molot is SO FULL of resources... It even has easter eggs! Awesome!
Easter balls! ;)
@@TokyoDawnRecords more like „Eastern“ balls :P
Tokyo DanW Records. :)
The quality of plugins meets the quality of presentations.
Thank you for translating this deeeeep compressor for us. I think if you dig this one through and through, you'll know most important things about compression. I'll watch this several times.
This new TDR one reminds me a lot of the great U-he Presswerk, I am using a lot. MolotGE even goes up the road a bit further. At first I thought I don't need this one but as I demoed it, I couldn't resist in the end. Nowadays I tend to use compressors (from Fuse Audio, Klanghelm, Softube or Kush) mostly as boxes to add color with a max of GR around 1-2 db. But MolotGE, what a workhorse this is. Suitable for all kinds of processing scenarios. It's such a welcome addition to Unisum and Presswerk for me. And with what a fair price this is coming along.
I appreciate a lot what the TDR guys created over the past years and what phylosophy they have and with what consistency they act. The cooperation with Mr. Worrall here seems to make a perfect fit. Thanks. Stay safe and sound.
These Spikey Tee tracks are really dope. Thanks to Tokyo Dawn Labs & Records!
TDR making everyone their fan
BIG shoutout to all the developers and engineers
Molot's my goto since 11 years. Finally tokyo dawn made one too!!!!
there is something very beautiful with this compressor, it doesnt just compress it adds life too, thanks for detailed analysis, i love it
That is the main reason why I love it as well. I own FF Pro EQ3, but nearly always reach for Molot!
I love the GUI on this. Slightly oddly, it reminds me of Atari's Battlezone arcade game from 1980; the one where you look through a periscope and try to shoot wireframe tanks. That game had a radarscope that is vaguely similar to the meter on this.
i think this is the best plugin maker on the market of whole vst world ...all their plugins have a tweakability impossible to find elsewhere
DMG and Melda have much more tweakable plugins.
Not that that makes them better than TD plugins.
Great rundown of an impressive plugin.
18:37 - Good to see that ex Sindecut crew member Spikey Tee is still active.
Dan's wonderful videos always help me get the most out of TDR's amazing plugins. The Molotok vid is no exception. Great work Dan!!! Thank you!
Imagine my delight-during a late-night (early morning?) plugin crawl-at finding an awesome new (free!) TDR compressor with a *proper Dan Worrall overview video* to boot! 5:57am never looked so good! Now I'm mildly regretting the USD$60 I _just_ spent on Waves CLA compressors (and their Rhodes instrument, which, admittedly, is quite good).
Bought this Molot GE, yesterday, along with Slick EQ M and Slick EQ GE
What a fantastic review. Dan you're the best in my opinion.
Many thanks, Dan! Great, as always.
Awesome! Molot GE will most likely get Some awards.
After waiting for a while, now bought!
Yeah.. using Dan Worrall to demonstrate your products is a cheat code at this point.
Excellent introduction, excellent plugin!
Yes finally!! I've been using the old Molot Comp in a lot of my drum mixing templates. Can't wait put this new one to test!
Molotok is hands down the best free character compressor plug-in there is, and Molot is also one the of the best commercial character compressor plug-ins IMO. U-he Presswerk and DMG Audio Trackcomp 2 are probably the ones that can compete with Molot in terms of tone and versatility, but there's just something about Vladislav's algorithms that make TDR plug-ins pure magic. Klanghelm's DC8C3 used to be my go-to ultimate compressor for a long time, but since I bought the TDR bundle it hasn't seen much use. Still a great comp though, and probably the best bang for your buck.
Klanghelm is another
Just came here because of that middle knob.. lol.. I was thinking it was RMS,
Also, I never knew TDR had a RUclips Channel.. definitely watching a lot of your videos 🙏💜🔥
Picked this up a few days ago. Great character. Installed both the free and GE editions.
TDR does it again.
My goodness this isn’t a intro this is a full fledged course! I believe I’ve found the real life inspiration for Iron man’s Jarvis you’re voice tone, flow and character are iconic!
I needed new compressors because i have a new pc setup and my waves plugins don't work anymore. So needed alternatives... I found the molotok and the blue one from Tokyo dawn. I downloaded those free versions. Now i don't need the waves plugins anymore because i lime those plugins more and they sound better. 😎
Insane you are makting free versions of this, thank you tokyo dawn. This plugin is awesome.... and GREEEN!
killer plugin for many if not all purposes! can shape your sound in a way no other compressor can do. danke Fabien und Vlad!
This is wonderful plugin omg I enjoy this plugin so much, thanks much
Love love love these plugs
This is the Best Compressor It Is Awesome. Thanks TDR my Drums Raised from The DEAD!
Welcome back!
Замечательный компрессор! Great one!
am i crazy or do Tdr plugins get better and better? I bought Molot Ge when it came out cause i knew one day i could watch a Dan Worall video on it.
I bougth this plugin as soon as I saw it was available (Love all the TDR stuff), but I have been struggling a bit to find my way around the interface and get to the sounds I wanted. I believe this video has helped - thanks
It was about the time! :)
Wow great vid!! thanks!
Little did I know when I thought I wouldn't need the TDR Molot as I have VladG's original Molot-design he released many years ago. Now, while watching Dan's video it made me laugh hysterically. This compressor is overwhelming. I need it.
love this plugin
Great VST 💜🖤💜
You are the best! ❤
David Attenborough of plug-in videos!
Amazing!
Great compressor.
5:00 "... aggressively slow" - LOL! great description.
Excellent! GE here
Great video as usual from Tokyo and Dan! It would be good if we could change the colour of the plugin though, really not keen on the army green.
Dan talks; I listen (and learn)
I loved.
amazing
Great!
Thanks a lot for your hard work.
hello 🌺
What a comprehensive plug-in.
Wonderful!
I miss here, because it is such a comprehensive PlugIn, but more detailed explanations.
How does the attack and release behave exactly with the different compressor modes?
What exactly happens when I combine them?
That confuses me.
Graphical representations would help a lot.
The differences are clearly audible, but before I spend hours and days trying to figure out how, what, why it happens, it would help to speed up the workflow.
More details please!
Please excuse my complaint!
Whoever reads the user manual has a clear advantage!
What a great plugin. It sounds fantastic and offers everything I want for this price and much much more.
I am glad that the first generation has made such a leap.
Keep it up! 🍀
yeah yeah yeah!
I literally check for these product intros compulsively.
🤘🤘🤘🤘🤘
Thx for the great "intro" of Molog/molotog ... Learning a lot of compression in general by just watching this !!
Q: what kind of tool do you use the visualise respons (eg at 9:00) - seems a good educational help to me ...
Plugin doctor
First! Dan!! ❤️
I find myself preferring Molotok, even though I own a Molot GE license. Molot GE has too much parameters to be used intuitively, especially since it's not always clear how parameter settings interact.
Firstly many thanks! You guys are awesome!
A tip off(?): Do you think you could possibly 'acquire' Magpha EQ? Seems the developer has lost interest in it & wont be updating anymore... [no need to reply here, just a thought...]
This is a general question. So in my chain which is purely dialogue based, I set my HPF at 110 on a previous chain, so once I go about adding molotok, if I set a sc on to my HPF, do I set it higher or lower then my previously set HPF so it doesn’t cause issues? Would u set a side chain on ur HPF ur already set a HPF that could potentially make u sound worse
Is there any chance you guys will do a Reverb Plugin ? Would love to have one of those from TDR.
Hello! I have the TDR "Kotelnikov" , "Molotok" and "Limiter 6 GE". Which one would you suggest using for BUS compression glueing things up?
I have the same question 😅
Kotelikov [but just try them all & listen]
it depends on what those "things" are,
and how transparent you like your glue to be.
you really have to take the time to abuse the ever-living snot out of a compressor - and on many sources - to begin to 'get' it's potential.
What's the differences between this and the original molot compressor, more than the gui?
Just ran an instance of Molotok in Plugindoctor....Everything aside from the pure Beta style has a gentle high pass filter, and SC filter option makes no difference on any of the settings. Am I doing something wrong here?!??
still 2 plugins are missing, then I have all...
I work with Windows and Mac, and the plugins work natively everywhere....
However, my music, rather rock :-p
Is this an opto compressor?
MOlot Looks and vibe > 5 stars
I thought buying the sonible suite would save me time, and let me just make music 🎶?
Its just not flexible enough to get the specific tonality expressed for me. I found logic stock compression, saturation, eqs just as relevant with Sonible unfortunately. But, now Kiive was intoxicating me, and IK medias suite as well, then I said hell with it, I'll just get Fab Filters package... Then Dan pops up, and clearly cleans the floor with them all, even Fab... I prefer the sound of this frequency articulator... Thanks To Tokyo Dawn, and Dan Worell, sincery a muscial frequency Monglot. 😂

Second only to Mick Hucknall in the sexual stakes.
"shwinnnnggggg"
Молот и молоток)) А когда Наковальня ))?
"Age-restricted video (requested by uploader)" - huh ? xD great vid though. as always :)
?! Thats weird. Video has no age restriction, working just fine here.
@@TokyoDawnRecords its gone now but was visible below the vid when i posted it. maybe some youtube glitch if you didnt touched it.
oh snap, i'm still using the old Molok compressor. the old UI. is that one comparable to this one? looking at you Worrall
I know so little.
Excuse me... WHAT?
Hilbert mode, Russian mode, and HELP HINTS?
Jesus, I'm buying all of TDL plugins.
This compressor sure doesn't hold back on features. apart from multiband. the one thing missing. Or TDR Nova where every bands compressor is a Molot GE
Reggae
Waiting for the “this plugin is sexist” comments 😂
A Ladies Edition on April 1 and/or Mother's Day could take care of that.
TDR should x-over with Moog to do a Grandmother/Matriarch Edition, too.
...just wondering how sick a dynamic back-end ladder filter riding on Molotok could be...
This is Russian word
A bit complicated. You wanna compress audio not land a space shuttle.
You also want to play notes that make a song....... your choice..
These days, Music is but production, unfortunately, but dont confuse this type of information as a way to make better music....
Just sayin'
He even pronounces alpha vita sigma like it would be pronounced in Greek. I take my hat off
Isn't Dan from Greece, or i'm completely wrong?
@@dusanspasic9687 ? Well his last name isn`t but maybe from the mother side? No idea. First time i hear this but don`t know him personally so anything is possible
