TDR Plugins are the bomb. Every time I A/B them against much more expensive well known company's plugins they always win. It's incredible. The features added are everything I want in my plugins.
Thank you TDR for giving this plugins to the world for free, i live on a 3rd world country and money for studio plugins its always thigh and having this high quality plugins for free its a blessing.
+proper lad well you can setup a internal sidechain to do deessing but chose to only effect the frequencies you chose to.its basically a dynamic eq added to it. I use that often to either enhance one part but only when needed. or to tame something but only when needed. besides that Its super smooth and clean so if you need to gently gel a buss or mix down you can do it with ease. Honestly I own so many plugins more than I will ever need. one of my sidejobs is a product specialist for Music marketing so I get alots of plugins for free. this is one that I bought and loved. I also love the slick eq GE. I did a video on how i like to you it a long time ago
honestly I never use presets. I like read the manuals and stuff so i know what everything does before I even start to use a plugin so I usually use one because I want to do something specific
This is one of my favourite compressors that I use every day in my mixes. Shoutout TDR, your plugins are really worth it + I love the fact that you keep the installation process simple without all that register / subscribe / activate bullshit
Wow! I've been using this as if I had a Ferrari and was driving it at 30 km/h. I do love the presets, but knowing what each parameter does and how they interact is really helpful to start tweaking my own settings. Having said that, I'm more of a musician than an engineer, and this highlights how difficult it is to perform both roles at the same time.
I always admire Dan explaining everything and then 2 days later i have forgoten most of it and must rewatch the video in order to remember. I am getting older
Excellent video, as usual by Dan. I had used this compressor occasionally, but after this video, I have a much better idea about how to get the most out of it. Especially useful: The explanation of the PEAK CREST knob (just after 3:45 in the video). This is a very important feature, and I didn't know what it did before. But it essential to know exactly what it does. Thank-you Dan! Also, it is a huge understatement to say that Kotelnikov is a great compressor "for free". I would not trade it for many of the expensive compressors.
Wow this compressor just has so much versatility and it sounds great too! I just got this and opened for the first time and was instantly impressed. Nice work!
After seven years it's still one of the top-must have plugins. Even the free edition which I've been used for a long time. However the Gentleman Edition is another story... Go for it!
WOW! It took me a couple of hours to understand all functions. But with all this knowledge, it is the first software compressor which can give better results then some of my hardware compressors. Depending on the situation though. This will be my new workhorse compressor👌👍💪
just found out about you all from In the Mix. I am trying out your plugins, finding replacements from smaller companies and transitioning away from Waves and the bigger ones. Will 100% support you all with the gentleman's editions, from the sound of it.
Let me say it all over again: Instant buy.... TAKE MY MONEY TDR these guys need to be supported they are doing great plugins and not the same renamed plugins that everyone does in this days i have Air Eq, S Bundle and many more plugins and none of them come near to this plugin guys please dont sell out to the big companies you are doing some AMAZING PLUGIN WORK you deserve a plugin award for your job!!
9:12 You could add two solo peak - solo RMS buttons beneath the creast factor knob! Would make comparing the two kinds of compression much easier to a novice user!
+Alexander Chernavsky Wouldn't it be pointless to even attempt it? First, there's youtube audio compression, you don't have access to the original music and the standard edition is free to download anyway. Listening to A/B demos is quite meaningless imho.
+Alexander Chernavsky These tutorial videos are meant to explain the user interface and philosophy behind the concept, in support of the user manual and inline help hints. We want users to truly understand and value the mechanics behind our products, and not just the memory of an audio sample they've heard somewhere. Spectacular one time shots can generate sales and stuff, but we aren't into manipulation. Please see the lack of any obvious audio examples as a intentional move meant to save your time from PR noise! You're free to load a crispy drum loop, throw Kotelnikov on it and play around with the params.
You say the Makeup & Dry Mix can be used to control the compressed and uncompressed elements in parallel compression. But I missed the explanation of how to cause this compressor to enter parallel compression mode. Could you explain that or point me to an explanation of it, please?
2024! 2 months until 2025! Back here as part of my quest of re-leaning the plugin… will be imminently getting the GE version… and Molot GE…and Limiter 6 GE
Noob question here. Loving Kotelnikov even without understanding it, but this clip really helps, thanks! The question then: in a lot of tutorials on mastering I see people using multiple compressors, a multipressor and a limiter in series on the master track. Where in this chain would the Kotelnikov be used? Or would it be used as one and only copmressor, only to be followed by a limiter? Excuse the noobness.
@tokyodawnrecords do you have any advice on order to use audio plugins, like so far my best attempt is this: noise reduction, de-ess,eq, compression, delay, reverb, saturation....also, can you explain more about the soft knee? and last and not least, do you have any presets available to download ? pce 555
I'm allways wondering, why I can't hear the slightest difference between compressed and not compressed. Without this ability it is neither usefull nor comprehensible, what to do anyway. Might it be possible, that such things are only for high professional producers with supersonic ears?
The Kotelnikov series is built to modify the dynamics properties of a signal (make it denser, lift low level sections) as transparently as possible. This is particularly important when processing the master bus, as typical during mastering. Note however that Kotelnikov is extremely effective at increasing density measurably, but will try anything it can to preserve the original balance/intention of a mix. Kotelnikov by default won't creatively reshape a bass kick or snare track, it assumes everything's fine already, with you only looking to change its density. It can be fast, though. If you want. In this case make sure to keep PEAK release as fast as possible, and the RMS release moderate to fast. Make sure to understand the role of PEAK CREST in all of this, consider using a very low PEAK CREST, or set it either full left or full right for more creative compression results. The GE has a YIN/YANG function, which, paired with fast timing settings, can create a lot of crunch/texture.
Great plugins, They sound great, very transparent, Its so CLEAN, great looking and they just work. Just downloaded all you're guys free plugins. Think this is the first time since i've been producing that i downloaded free plugins. lol. But i have a plugin addiction and just can't help myself. haha. Had to check out you're guys youtube channel, subbed and subscribed. P.S. No offense but this music was like taking a dildo to my ear.
From 5:27-5.34 it's transcripted as "This corresponds much closer to the way human beings perceives body..." Body doesn't make sense, but what is he saying? It's not possible to hear.

A lot of the time, when I A/B them against much more expensive hardware, they win. Remarkably well made tools.

2020 and still this is one of the best algorithm based compressors around.
2022 and it's still a beast. TDR makes amazing tools.

@@kamilslaby_ my post was in 2020 :D
I refuse to use anything else for bus compression. It works for me.
i tried hundreds of compressors, abd this one, even the free version, is by far the best one. Congrats TDR.
It always make me happy when Dan Worrall explain a plugin. He's definetely the best!
Incredible plugin by the way.
WOW! Quality & technology ahead of its time. Pleasantly surprised.
this compressor is the most amazing clean compressor I have ever used

This is huge for me as well. If you're gonna make it a pain for a paying customer to use your products legally, I'm less likely to invest.
this is THE BEST free mastering compressor out there!
Still one of the best plugins and tutorials in 2023, gj!
Dan Worrall and Kotelnikov! Fantastic tutorial
Amazing compressor! Amazing video as usual by Dan Worrall! Cheers and Merry Christmas from Finland!
and a merry christmas to you too Niklas!

The "Franklin Delano Roosevelt" button's settings can be a bit confusing. I'm going to have to do some tests & use my ear to hear the differences.
I really appreciate this compressor. Its a memorable choice in my list of tools.
Any chance you can make an updated video covering the inertia control and the various hidden features not mentioned here?

You enter parallel compression by adding the uncompressed signal with the "dry mix" knob on the right.

You can use different compressors for different purposes. Play around and you will get why a limiter should be the last one on the master track.
The FDR Thing reminds me of DSMV3, damn I need the GE version.

This isn't really suitable for individual tracks is it? More for busses or mastering?
So does frequency dependent ratio basically eq the delta signal?
Yes, in such a way phase distortion remains below 90°
@@TokyoDawnRecords Thanks to @DanWorrall for explaining to us amateurs why that's all fine especially at such shallow slopes as this.

So this is a feedback compressor, right?
Great!
Can we use this as channel compressor? or just good for program?
Sure, it's flexible. IMHO, a great option for vocals, drums, bass.
I use on drum loops and on synth.
are you the same voice that always speaks in the fabfilter tutorials :D
Strate2 I thought the same thing lol. It’s like he’s smooth talking. I don’t trust him lol

Is this heavy on CP usage? thank you
It's been CPU heavy for a while, but according to Moore's law, I'm not sure it still can be considered as CPU heavy today. ;)
That sounds like Dan Worral!
