There's an easy work around for different slicers which don't support the Ultra. Just use the Mono SE settings (with altered dimensions to suit the Ultra) and change the file extension after saving.
The build plate design looks similar to the Mono 4k and if it's the same, then there should be 2 screws in the centre holding down the flat plate. You can loosen those screws and straighten the plate so that it is no longer skewed. I managed to fix mine on my Mono 4k.
Good review. Definitely had some issues with tip sizes on supports. Lots of presupports files for small miniatures are unusable on the ultra without beefing up the supports manually. Quite frustrating. Wish you'd touched on the dlp 'stepping' , (voxel lines I think they're called?) and the need for the photon workshop's anti-aliasing settings for getting a smooth finish on some prints. The dlp tech is amazing for crisp detail, but those lines can be pretty crazy on some surfaces without compensating for it. Still trying to figure out the best setting to work around it myself. The weak motor is a real bummer and I've noticed that too, though thankfully I haven't had any notieceable failures yet due to it. Actually found this video while I was searching for a replacement vat. Not only is the vat it comes with plastic, but when I went to replace the fep I discovered it seems to be glued into the frame that is screwed into the vat. I assume I'm expected to buy replacement fep sheets pre-tensioned from them, which seems a major unnecessary hassle for an already crappy vat. Good to see you suggested replacing the vat. Do you just suggest ebay for replacing knobs and the vat? Any specific store?
Just bought this printer on sale for €350, it will be my first resin printer so I'm excited to start learning. The small build volume is my main concern
Honestly as someone that has owned 3 mono x and an S I preferred the smaller build plates, far nicer to work with. It's all personal preference though and dependent on what your main use is.
It's alot more expensive than the photon 4k and that prints fantastic! Even prints the test ifel tower with no resin build ups like some other's don't think I'll change to one at the moment but it does sound like you went in to hate and do a bad review on anycubic anyway! We have never had issues with the 4k one the instructions tell you not to use a metal vat only the black resin one provided! This is a statement from the instructions on the 4k mono x Please use the original plastic resin vat and Anycubic Photon Mono black resin vat can be a replacement. Do not use metal vat, which may cause print failure
Im so glad you guys finally got one! Ive had mine for a while now and I love it. What resin of yours do you recommend to use with it? Did John say the porcelain?
@@sepid129 anycubic site actually, they have a “back to school” discount which brings the ultra to 330 something and with the additional discount code “ULTRA” the price ends up at 259. Anyway I bought it especially for the low watt consume and the longer life (20000 hours they claim) and I’m pretty happy with it. The plate is a little small but so in order to print bigger stuff you’ll have to cut the stl files in blender and then stick them with super glue. I’ll for sure get a mono x2 in the future, probably next year, for printing stuff in order to paint but for the now I’ll stick with it since i’m printing stuff for DnD and it works just fine

My application will be mostly small mechanical parts as well as "higher" volume manufacturing later if the products are successful. Unfortunately I struggle to find a clear comparison when considering mechanical part performance. Seems like DLP will cure tougher resins better but LCD will excel at full buildplate printing.
17:20 - Single source definitely sucks. I doubt anyone would make (even if they were able to) DLP chips just for this tiny market. Hobbyist type resin printers seem to use lots of off-the-shelf parts (sometimes modified a bit), which keeps the prices down. Best case TI has lots of surplus obsolete DLP chips available to be repurposed, but I wouldn't get too hopeful for much innovation here.
Don't buy it !!! I did and I deeply regret it ! It came with a faulty motherboard, Anycubic sent another one. It's very hard and stressy to change this whent you're not use to electronics. Then I plugged the printer wich booted less than a second before turning off. The new motherboard turns to fault the same way. It's really crap, don't buy Anycubic. 🤬🤬🤬

export supported file as an STL on your fav software slicer and then import as an pre-supported file and print.

DLP in that price range there isn't much choice but this one. If you are looking at MSLA then check out the Anycubic or Elegoo offerings..

We used our Porcelene Dental Resin, but all resins work well.
