    I met Ed in a liquor store back around '91 or so. He was with Val who was pregnant with Wolf at the time. He was driving a Lamborghini SUV type of thing, kinda like a Hummer but next level. We spent a few minutes talking about it (how many were made, who owns the others, how much it costs to fuel, etc.). It's kinda rule of thumb when you live in L.A. to not talk about a person's occupation when you meet someone famous, so music was off the table. But I was so starstruck. I never thought in a million years I'd meet Eddie Van Halen and there I was talking about his car with him.

    I was fortunate enough to meet and talk with Eddie during their first tour stop to my hometown with Sammy on vocals. A very long story that I won't bore anyone here with. But, let me just attest from my own personal experience that everything you ever read about how down to earth Eddie was is absolutely true. A 10- minute chat that happened 35 years ago and I still remember it like it was yesterday.

      If you don't mind me asking what is your uncle's name? My dad did National promo for A&M records in the 80s so I guarantee he knows him. If you want I can divulge first and give you my dad's industry name - so ask him if he knows VanO 😁. There weren't many people in the industry who didn't know who he was - I say that past tense because he has since retired as of about 2 years ago after spending 43 years in the industry. But A&M was my dad's first label gig. From there he went to Chrysalis records out in California for a few years and worked for them as one of their National directors of Rock promo. In the early 90s he decided to go independent and started Midwest music and he got to work with every label that hired him. He worked Nirvana's never mind album when it was released and was literally the driving force for getting 3 doors down airplay and put into rotation at radio stations when they released kryptonite. As the years went on he got more into the metal scene and again was one of maybe three people who broke Bring Me The Horizon into mainstream radio. Up until you retired he worked slipknots albums and singles and is actually close friends with Corey Taylor. Funny story: a few years ago at the big day out festival up in Connecticut or New York, I texted him and asked him what he was doing and he sends me a picture of him standing at the festival with him and his BFF Corey Taylor LOL. I wish I could find a video on here still but I had it as a couple years ago in an email from my dad where Chris motionless was thanking my dad for picking up their band and working their first album.
      Much like you, although your experiences with the artists are much cooler, I spent my Summers traveling with my dad and meeting all these hair bands in the 80s. In fact even up until the year he retired, my dad still had to do the summer festivals tour and a big one is Rock on the range, although I don't think it's called that anymore, I believe it's Sonic Temple nowadays, but it literally takes place 50 minutes up the road for me. Huge 3-day festival where just about every major metal band would Grace at least one of the stages. So up until that point I always had six free tickets for the 3-day event for myself and my fiance as well as all access laminates to watch the shows from the side of the stage.
      That being said - your memories with your uncle are cool as hell. I mean just being in the studio while the "We Are the World" tracks are being recorded by all these artists is unbelievable. I mean you're literally sitting there watching history in the making - like front row. Anyways let me know if your uncle knows him or not. I don't know if your uncle had an industry nickname or not and if you're not cool with the bulging it that's fine but man you're the first person I've seen in the RUclips comment section where I thought "oh my God I wonder if they know my dad".

    I find it fascinating we place such a high value on a person's ability to master a six-stringed instrument. In this case, I think it's the mirage that got developed around the band, likely in large part due to DLRs salesmanship. I think we all love VH, but so much is based on the "product" delivered via the media and show theatrics. At the center of all that, was a relatively down to earth guy, who was a great musician. 😊

    I met EVH at the grocery store. He knew I was starstruck and came over to me to say hello. Also, I worked at a studio in VanNuys and met a guy that told me EVH paid for his girlfriend’s cancer treatment. He even paid for transportation. He was a good guy.

    Wolfie mentioned it on a video. He hoped that it would get his dad excited and rally him so they could. Possibly do with DLR and Sammy Hagar as well as Gary Cherone. It seemed that the talk didn't progress much more than that as his dad's health didn't improve. So glad I saw them once in 1984 with DLR and several times with Sammy Hagar. They were a powerful band! Always a joy to see! I will always miss him, but I usually go put on some Van Halen and jam and all is well with the world!

      Wolfie's Idea that he brought to his Dad Ed
      Was a Van Halen Tour would have been called
      The KITCHEN SINK Tour with all 3 Singers and
      The whole original Idea was Wolf VanHalen's.

  • @duckydrummer6331
    @duckydrummer6331 Год назад +7

    Yet another person that Edward’s beautiful soul has touched. According to Wolfgang, they were thinking about planning a tour which would include Michael Anthony and they were going to call it the kitchen sink tour because everyone was going to be involved from Sammy Hagar to David Lee Roth and Michael Anthony. This nurse was correct in saying that Edward would be better and then the cancer would come back in a different form because Wolfgang basically said the same thing that he would get better and then something else would pop up.

    I saw VH a couple of times. The first time was when I was in high school; at the Civic Center in Portland Maine. My friend had bought Grateful Dead tickets. Back then the tickets were all 'general admission' and it was like a giant party. So we are in the place and VH came on stage as the lead in band! We had no idea who they were. I remembering looking at the stage and this crazy man (David Lee Roth) in tights and a superman cape running everywhere, doing backflips and stuff. The music was great. I made my way to the front and stood about ten feet from Eddie. I play guitar and just wanted to see how the hell he was getting those sounds. He looked at me at one point and grinned, probably knew I was trying to figure it out. Sad he passed away.

Pretty sure if I'd had this assignment I would have crapped my pants! Losing Eddie just broke my heart to pieces, but I thank God for all the people that loved and took care of him in his final days. Sorry you never got to see VH in concert, but go catch Wolf on tour!

    crazy - first group i ever discovered was van halen...only been to three concerts in my life and VH was one of them, VH only had one number one song (JUMP) on 2/25/ 1984. My grandmother was born on February 25th. (1894) I was born on february 25th.(1967) (i think that is the year Eddie picked up and started to learn to play guitar.... My mother passed away from cancer (like Eddie) on January 26th (2021) which is Eddie's birthday. My mom first got sick around 10/06/2020. (she passed away from cancer) I was born and raised in New Castle County Delaware 5 miles away from Valerie Bertennelli's childhood home where she lived. I bought my first car from the wilmington Delaware assembly plant where Valerrie's father was a GM executive. My name is a Dutch name which is where the van halen's are from...Eddie's son was born on 3/16/1991 and I think that is right around the day i had my first girlfriends date.
