@@Reaper_f30 "6 cylinders your only gonna get the power out of it top end if your on the highway" - This is exactly what you said and it makes no sense both factually and logically. I'm not sure how a garage/tuner can confirm a car is "more than enough". The B58 is quicker in every scenario which renders your comments like tuners favour it for anything wrong too. They dont, at least not the ones worth their salt. The 4pots aren't as well good, definitely wont put out as much power or last as long. Something else you might not know is that the weight distribution of these cars was based on a 6cyl (Almost perfect 50-50). The 4cyl has a worse, more front weighted, unsteer led bias. 1.2% more in fact, so while marginally lighter, the balance of the car gets worse. Go figure.
Where did you get the inlet pipe for the new turbo? Obviously you cant use the stock one because of the different diameter. I emailed IPOS and they said to use a rubber coupler.
Help! Question: I have an F30 with the N20; how can one tell when the balance shaft chain wears and needs replacement? Have 91,000 now and did cam chain guide around 65,000. Thx!
Question from the EU. If on pump gas (98 eu, 93 us I believe) will I be good to make 450whp on a 2019 330i xdrive? The option for a cold air intake and decat down pipe are very much on the table. Thanks for the great vids❤
i think with a few more mods yeah, ethanol adds a lot of power with a tune specifically for it, as far as i know. i plan on keeping mine 93 since there's no e85 near me
So I had a discussion with navardi tuned, regarding the B48A vs the b48B, as i myself have a 2018 B48A, I was informed that the only thing making the b48A more lspi prone/ damage, is the Compression ratio itself not the material used or shape, in fact the material and shape of the b48A was inferior more so on the early b48A versions, specifically the mini coopers, now im not sure if this is more europe based information but ive basically been informed that my 2018 b48A is the same material and quaility as a 2016 - 2019 b48B engine, and the limiting factor for tuning in this case is the compression ratio. in which case if i wish to push it into the 320BHP to 350NHP(300whp) area, the tune just need to more focused on the fuel quality and careful output of torque based on rpm and gear essentially. would love to know your thoughts on this info I've come across.
I’ve got a 2019/12 330e with the B engine. I only pump Euro 100 octane (US 93+). I’ve got BM3 but the off the shelf tune is for the F30 330e turned out, so I’m looking for a tuner available on Bootmod3 for a remote tune as I’m located in Central Europe. Looking to make 420hp 700nm gas & electric combined, on pump US 93+ octane / EU 100 octane. Any recommendations please? Thanks! 😁
What an amazing video. I’m hoping to get an F36 430i soon, and here in the UK i’ll be running the US equivalent of E5 93 octane (97 octane in UK). If my goal is ~350whp, I wonder what you would recommend? Obviously you say that the pistons are slightly different (but not massively so), so i’m wondering - can I not just fit the 350bar HPFP from the G-series to the B48 in the F series? That way I should be able to push a little bit past that 300bhp limit the F-series is known to have with the pistons cracking? Also, I’d upgrade the turbo to achieve the ~350whp with as little boost as possible. What do you think? 👀
Add a transverse B48 project. Need some videos for X1-X2-Mini upgrades/engine mods. They did sell 200k+ since 16 and i happened to pick up a 19' for cheap.
@@phoobindustries8905 sales figures not high for Minis. I’m assuming less content viewership. But combine the 3 transverse B48 & you got #s. BMW forums keep telling me it’s an easy diy auto>6spd. Would need a video for that b4 I even try lol.
@@F85M barely any content on minis for a reason, a couple bolt ons and a tune and you max out the tranny. Even the manuals have a limit and at that point it’s just too sketchy
Question, but why did BMW upgrade the crankshaft, pistons and other parts in the engine in the more powerful version of the B48 that is in the Mini and 235i? Would this not mean that the older 330i G20 (2019/2020) have weaker parts?
Would you say its worth getting a lower milage 330i with 4300miles or a bit cheaper one with 6000miles and this one even has some spec that I prefer. They both have followed BMW oem service intervals. I'm considering the IM450 turbo and cooler upgrades with my aim set on about 400hp safely.
330e will respond differently to throttle than M340 thanks to that electric motor response. Instant power power under 1000rpm. No turbo can do that. Combine that e-motor with the upgrades you've made oh my. That would be the sweet spot for sure. Touring for me please!
I’ve been at a bit of a crossroads with what car to get. I have an ‘11 X5D with third row for hobbies and kid hauling. I’ve wanted an f80/82 for awhile, but the pricing hasn’t made sense for me when you consider the G20 videos you’ve made. I picked up an ‘18 430i vert just for grins (b46) but the roof is noisy when closed. I’m thinking I’ll sell it and look for an M Sport 330i like yours and do similar upgrades and enjoy the modern touches. Just out of curiosity, are there any differences INTERNALLY between the b46/b48? I can’t find solid info online. If I can find a way to quiet down my vert interior I could play around with the car since I already have it.
Any comment on the cooling issues of the closed deck design? BMW techs are reporting cracked plastic and coolant leaks everywhere. Also the entire OFH is warping and needing replacement instead of just needing to replaced the gasket like on the N54 and N55.
Hey i’d really like it if you got back to me on this I have a 2017 F30 330i and i was going to follow your exact set up turbo charge pipe down pipe port injection and intake manifold and when you drop the heat exchange video that too lol but when should i stop pushing i don’t what to lose a piston as you say the f30 might do so and i Love your videos been following your journey on this car for a minute now great videos
just saw a stock subie engine go over 1000hp on baderbuilds, i think theres some instances they can definitely go beyond the math youve shown here. with that said, street tune your car no matter what it is to a reliable level.
Can I ask you a question for my 2019 F36 440i xDrive Grand Coupe...changing my stock HP Fuel pump to TU HPFP without tune, will it add power or I need a tune? Also is it recommended to change to catted free flow down pipe?
Hi! I have a 330e with B48B20B engine and i’m currently tuned with MG flasher. I would always drive my car in xtraboost (sport+ for hybrid) so it would always sit around 2k rpm + but after getting a straight pipe exhaust I wanted to keep the revs down therefore using sport individual. When this happened I’ve noticed the car starts hesitating when it’s cruising on 8th gear and 1200ish rpm. After some research I’ve figured out it is LSPI and now i’m worried. How can I make sure that my engine is still healthy and is it actually some knock happening in the engine or is it ECU’s way of protecting the engine by cutting the fuel when it notices it is getting too hot therefore the hesitation. I would really love it if you could please enlighten me a bit.
Use the logger tool, do pull in each gear from 3rd to 6th Then all in one go if you can. Check knock, if you do get some dw First check thr afrs, IATs and cylinder correctjon timing (no more than value of 3 no less than -3) If everything is withing acceptable values, you should be good

So for my fellow 320i owners or 330e if thats what you got, seems in order to mitigate any piston damage if you want somethung like a ipos450 is Fyi im talking in the instance of running 99 octane pump gas A) GET YOURSELF A B58 TU PUMP and a custom tune, you wont have access to the full 5000 psi, still the b48s 3000, BUT when your at high speed and rpm, you'll be ensuring the volume of fuel being pumped as your not near the limit of the stock one Again the pump does not allow more fuel to go in, but ensures the max volume of 3000 psi is more achievable I wouldnt tune it at this stage above 290WHP -300 (340bhp - 360) and 480nm torque Keeps psi under 21 or below on stock turbo Hopefully tuner tunes good timing B) FORGED pistons first for saftey C) new turbo 400 to 450 whp 320i or 330e more than enough considering how light the car is. Vehicular DIY sound about right?😊
Incredible knowledge. I would love to see a series on the N55 like how to build it out for reliability and torque. I have n55 x5 and it’s a great platform and want to tune it and build it right for towing. Like small boats or camper. But I want to build it to have low end power and efficiency. The alpina b3 uses the old turbo set up from the e90 on an n55 with bigger intercooler and upgraded fuel pump. And it made 404 hp on 93. It’s all stuff pulled off the n54. I wonder is that set up ideal for better low end and over all driving performance. As most of us want the best out of car and not looking to set new land speed records. I thought this route would be best then something like big single turbo and I would want to reduce lag for a x5. And I would assume that would be best for even an x7 with the b58 and make it a real contender against the v8s. But without the issue that they offer.
Sounds like you might have an F series X5. One option is to “cross grade” to an f15 diesel X5. The torque for towing is amazing. MPGs are great too. Full transparency, one thing to watch is timing chain once miles go over 125k. AFAIK that’s the only weak spot. Way less bearings being spun vs the n55! Though lately I have seen more than one n55 X5 with 200k plus miles, so maybes it is all about owner driving habits and OCIs.
@@acarpenter1332 yeah I have been in discussion with my shop and I am planing on getting a x5 35d I am talking with some wreckers yards in the EU I have some contacts over there. I am going to pick up a the parts to build a 50D here in the states and build a stage 3 built setup with it. So upgrade pistons and meth injection I will be little north of 700 hp and crazy torque. And he knows about the chain there is an upgraded part for it. But the main issue with the n57 is oil leaking on valves cover in the rear because it drips right on the DPF and when it goes into regeneration it can catch fire. So deletes are a must. But I am heading over to the EU in 2025 going try and bring back a an F11 car. And do 50d conversion on that too.
@@michaelbrooks9462good call. And wow, I did not know about the fire hazard from the oil dripping. Mine is an m57tu2 though so I don’t know as much about the n57.
@@acarpenter1332 yeah deleting the emissions crap is ideal that is the only major issue with almost every diesel engine. Now it’s hard because if you don’t live in state that cares go for it and delete that crap off but I would be careful if they do and delete it and keep the old parts and keep it stealth under the hood. I would even put a larger aftermarket cat on like a high flow one just to keep the smell down and don’t straight pipe it because it will be to noticeable and places like California that huge fine. Cops have huge boner for busting people with any modified car. But they couldn’t care less if you rob or kill anyone. I would highly recommend for your n57 get a catch can, second get an oil bypass kit installed. This will save your our engine from soot in the oil. The stock filter isn’t enough the bypass kit will keep the oil like new. And third a water methanol injection kit but you can run straight water. Snow performance has a two stage one so it can come on with one nozzle at the turbo exit, and one for higher boost at the intake manifold. You will make clean power easily gain like 10% power and better economy. Because they lower the air density like crazy. But those 3 things and a full delete you can make over 450 whp on stock turbo and injectors.
@@michaelbrooks9462 yeah my hope is to delete “under the radar” since we have emissions testing. A little more power would be nice, but I am mostly interested in reliability.
Okay so 320i and 330e gen 1 dont tune above 350hp, for saftey just dont to above 330, and dont go above 300 area unlless you got the b58 tu pump with a custom tune 330i gen 1 and the b48 gen 2s can take near 400 on stock internals saftey, of course you need new turbo.

So the methonal the port injection and the turbo. Would iall this fit the F60 JCW 2023?

Help! Question: I have an F30 with the N20; how can one tell when the balance shaft chain wears and needs replacement? Have 91,000 now and did cam chain guide around 65,000. Thx!
How do you make your own e85? you pointed to isapropal alcohol. I skipped around in the video.
Question from the EU. If on pump gas (98 eu, 93 us I believe) will I be good to make 450whp on a 2019 330i xdrive? The option for a cold air intake and decat down pipe are very much on the table. Thanks for the great vids❤
i think with a few more mods yeah, ethanol adds a lot of power with a tune specifically for it, as far as i know. i plan on keeping mine 93 since there's no e85 near me
@@yearight6294 was thinking turbo, cooler, cold air intake decat downpipe and a gearbox flash. Should be good right?
Amazing info. How about the B38? Just apply the ratio, so half the figures of the B58?
Do all the M Sport 330s have the LSD, or is there some other package that needs optioned in order to get it?
i have a 2017 230i i think they have the same engine is on stage 2 can i get the same turbo kit with out blowing my motor
i have a 230i too. Doing my turbo swap today.
Add a transverse B48 project. Need some videos for X1-X2-Mini upgrades/engine mods. They did sell 200k+ since 16 and i happened to pick up a 19' for cheap.
The mini would have to be a manual as the stock DCT can only handle around 350 ft-lbs
@@phoobindustries8905 sales figures not high for Minis. I’m assuming less content viewership. But combine the 3 transverse B48 & you got #s.

Do you know how much boost a stock B58 with 10.2:1 compression runs? I cannot find this basic info anywhere. (Specifically, I have a '23 supra.)
Think its like 15psi. Can be taken to 22/23 fine but 24/25 and over just destroys IATs.
I dug thru some bmw forums, looks like b58 is indeed 15psi boost, according to an OTS tune.

What about the difference on F30 B58s and G20 B58s?
Does the B58 on F30 also has the low RPM pre-ignition problem like you said?
Question, but why did BMW upgrade the crankshaft, pistons and other parts in the engine in the more powerful version of the B48 that is in the Mini and 235i? Would this not mean that the older 330i G20 (2019/2020) have weaker parts?
Can you make a guide how to eneble welcome lights whenn unlocking your car?
What's the significance of the combustion flame front being even?
Would you say its worth getting a lower milage 330i with 4300miles or a bit cheaper one with 6000miles and this one even has some spec that I prefer. They both have followed BMW oem service intervals. I'm considering the IM450 turbo and cooler upgrades with my aim set on about 400hp safely.
How does the G20 handle compared to like an F30 335i?
330e will respond differently to throttle than M340 thanks to that electric motor response. Instant power power under 1000rpm. No turbo can do that. Combine that e-motor with the upgrades you've made oh my. That would be the sweet spot for sure. Touring for me please!
But what about the electric motor reliability? Also doesnt the 330e still not have an xhp flash or did they fix that yet

B46 is us version, b48 is eu version with just an opf filter for emissions.
Any comment on the cooling issues of the closed deck design? BMW techs are reporting cracked plastic and coolant leaks everywhere. Also the entire OFH is warping and needing replacement instead of just needing to replaced the gasket like on the N54 and N55.
The S55 is closed deck and don't have those issues
What would u say is n54 biggest problem ?
How many coolant lines on the motors? Ive heard that working on them is a nightmare.

just saw a stock subie engine go over 1000hp on baderbuilds, i think theres some instances they can definitely go beyond the math youve shown here. with that said, street tune your car no matter what it is to a reliable level.
what are the consequences of adding port inkection for more power?
Can I ask you a question for my 2019 F36 440i xDrive Grand Coupe...changing my stock HP Fuel pump to TU HPFP without tune, will it add power or I need a tune? Also is it recommended to change to catted free flow down pipe?
You need a tune man, the current tune will keep it locked in at the capacity its programmed to regardless if you install a better one
Is a B48 swap into a N20 chassis (f30)?
What about 2020 g20 330i in Canada. Same strong engine?
Use the logger tool, do pull in each gear from 3rd to 6th
Then all in one go if you can.
Check knock, if you do get some dw
First check thr afrs, IATs and cylinder correctjon timing (no more than value of 3 no less than -3)
If everything is withing acceptable values, you should be good
I love my 335i but past 180 km/ph its unstable

So for my fellow 320i owners or 330e if thats what you got, seems in order to mitigate any piston damage if you want somethung like a ipos450 is
Fyi im talking in the instance of running 99 octane pump gas
A) GET YOURSELF A B58 TU PUMP and a custom tune, you wont have access to the full 5000 psi, still the b48s 3000, BUT when your at high speed and rpm, you'll be ensuring the volume of fuel being pumped as your not near the limit of the stock one
Again the pump does not allow more fuel to go in, but ensures the max volume of 3000 psi is more achievable
I wouldnt tune it at this stage above 290WHP -300 (340bhp - 360) and 480nm torque
Keeps psi under 21 or below on stock turbo
Hopefully tuner tunes good timing
B) FORGED pistons first for saftey
C) new turbo
400 to 450 whp 320i or 330e more than enough considering how light the car is.
What about the f30 b46 motors the gen 1
Have they finally fixed their valve cover, OFHG, and oil pan leaks?
I'm a little confused, which one could handle 400 or 500 hp more reliable, 320i g20 or 330i g20?
And do 320i have lsd?
Okay so 320i and 330e gen 1 dont tune above 350hp, for saftey just dont to above 330, and dont go above 300 area unlless you got the b58 tu pump with a custom tune
330i gen 1 and the b48 gen 2s can take near 400 on stock internals saftey, of course you need new turbo.
How much power do you think you can reliably get from a B48 with the 11:1 piston heads? You said 300hp is risky but would 240 or 250 reliable?
