I looked for 9 months to find a b58 f30 with a 6 speed. Super rare in my country. Purchased the very first one that came up. So yep you are correct. It was all about the engine and drive train. 100%. The last petrol car I will own.
Hey there Musa! Watching the engine go from block to fully built is like art, especially with the stop motion-esque editing you've done!! Fantastic stuff man!
I got one of the original 2016 bmw 340i with the b58. I absolutely love that engine has gone from Texas to Canada and back several times and has never given me an issue. I recall when I purchase the car new everyone thought i was crazy trying out a first year new bmw engine espeically after all the issues from the N54 but the design seem solid enough and it hasnt disappointed since. I plan to own this car till I or it dies.
From the several BMWs I've had, M10, M20, M42, M52, S52, and now an N52n, reliability of the engine has never been an issue. Problem now is the crap components BMW puts around the engine. Both e82 and e90 I've driven were good, but became ultimate CEL generation machines the second they hit 100K miles. By comparison my 01 528 wasn't maintenance free certainly, but never failed smog and was calmly cruising through 292K miles when it went to a new home.
idk my 2008 335i has 121k miles and i converted it to single turbo at 101k. Haven't really had any issues besides fuel pump which I just upgraded anyways. That and of course the valve cover lmao.
I think it's a great price. Volvo was an adopter of k jet in the 70s aswell. It seems that European cars were more likely to go away from the carb earlier.
Porsche, Alfa Romeo and BMW had all gone to mechanical port injection on their top performance cars by early 70s. These are some of my favorites and while not fast now, they were much faster and more economical without other emission controls than their carbureted contemporary models. All exotics save the earlier MB 300SL were still running carburetors.
Just bought a 18 M240i, first bmw and this thing is fun asf. Handles beautifully, power is smooth and once you hit 5k rpm in 3rd gear in the 8 speed auto, you say “HOLY SHIT THE BOOST JUST HIT” and by the end of 3rd gear you are going 90 mph lmao.

New to your channel and I love your content. I was thinking that a water-methanol injection set up could help with reliability by the simple fact of cooling the engine cylinders before ignition ( this could also translate as lower pressures for the injectors). Thanks for sharing your knowledge.
