- To celebrate the 3rd anniversary of this channel, I am listing down my top 20 favorite 2D beat 'em up games.
As you all know, 2D beat 'em up games is one of my favorite video game genres ever. It's always an enjoyable time to sit down, grab a controller, and beat up a bunch of enemies. It's a good mindless stress release.
I am going to rank these games, based on what the game has to offer, and how much I enjoyed them.

Fight'N Rage is the best 2d beat em up iv played recently it's so satisfying to combo goons until they explode into a pile of bones and it has an awesome aesthetic. The ninja is so fun to use he has that ryu hayabusa izuna drop and boy does it feel good to use

One game I was very surprised you didn't mention was to the Alien vs Predator arcade game made by Capcom. This was one of the best beat em ups Capcom ever made aside from Final Final. The awesome part was the character had moves that mimicked street fighter moves but were easier to do. Also Final Fight on the Sega CD was the best console version and nearest to the arcade and had all three characters and was two players.

No AVP? That game took combo mechanics to the next level. Basically a freeform combo system. Try it with a joystick for optimal play.

Hey thanks for making this video, I know this video is made based on your personal preference, however I think you are definately missing some gems in this video. More specifically, Dungeons and Dragons: Shadow of Mystara and Dragons Crown. If you ever update this list i would recommend looking into those 2 entries.

Great list. My favorite genre. There are a few upcoming beat um ups coming this year that im looking forward too.
theres one thing you forgot about the arcade version of Powered Gear S.V.A.E. when you play the game in three player and achieve the level in a certain time at full health, you can summon a power armour for all three bots to combine and become a mobile armour but it is on a time constraint and is only for boss battles.
Great video Brother filled with lots of interesting facts. I agree SoR4 is my fave all-time beat em up. I never heard of Panzer Bandit I'd love to try it.

Where is 'Dungeons & Dragons: Shadow over Mystara'?
SoR 4 would probably be number 20 on my list . Remake is the best for sure!
There are other beat em up games to be mentioned too, like there's a "Bucky o hare " that's also a konami beat em up game where it's a beat em up and a shoot em up at the same time, that game was made to be the last episode of the Bucky o hare storyline as well.

Cool. At a recent steam festival, I played the demo of another potentially good game - Arnold Bounty Hunter. It looks more like the first Battletoads - there are not only fights, but also various adventures with platforming, hydrocycles. It also looks interesting. I liked the demo.

I only wish you brought up Final Fight CD for the Sega/Mega CD. It's the best port we got with arrange CD quality music, two players, uncensored and all three characters.

No love for any of the VanillaWare beatemups, like Muramasa Demonblade, Dragon's Crown or Odin Sphere Leifthrasir... all of which are among the best in genre that I've played.
Are the VanillaWare games I mentioned above not technically qualified as 2D beatemups?

Guardian Heroes is there so I can't think of a reason not to put Panzer Bandit.
It's been one of those games that I'll put in any console, just because I never get tired of playing them. Panzer Bandit, Dissidia (012), Sonic Battle, Killzone Mercenary, PSASBR and Smash has been one of those games. I can drop any other games for these and will never get tired of playing them.

Nah, SoR4 characters have up to 300 frames of animation. No way near 1000. But still impressive.
Well this will fill an hour of this fargone yard work.
Alien vs Predator and The Simpsons could have made the list easy. Among others. In my opinion.

BATMAN RETURNS for the 16 BIT SNES is much better then the 16 BIT GENESIS VERSION.
I would pay ONE HUNDRED DOLLARS for a simple port of Batman Returns SNES for the Switch.

Very disappointing list. Apart from SoR4 and TMNTSR, there are no recent beat'em ups...
Jitsu Squad and The Ninja Saviors, granted the later is a remake.
