    I like your pinkish orange, too. Thank you (again) for doing such an excellent video lesson. I especially like the sky details and the close-ups. I did notice that because the camera is at an angle, the close-ups magnify the right side of the canvas a lot more than the left side of the canvas.

    Lol... pinkish orange... twice because I've watched this all the way through twice. I'm trying to learn how to paint in oil so following the video is a little trickier. I'm not sure if there is that much different between the manufacturer's hues, but my cerulean blue blends aren't close to yours in this video, ... I probably just need to practice blending more. Thank you so much for these video tutorials. They are really helping me try to level up my paintings. And I really love that you leave your "mistakes" in the lessons so we can see how you fix them. Awesome job on producing these!

    • @RyanORourkeArtist
      @RyanORourkeArtist  4 года назад +2

      Thanks Debora! I feel like cerulean blue does vary from brand to brand. I'm personally using one from Winsor & Newton but I wouldn't worry about matching it perfectly with mine. If you find you have a mix or color you prefer feel welcome to use it instead. Oh! also, it's also worth noting that I paint in natural light, so, the cerulean blue does look different throughout the lesson/day due to cool light in the mornings and warm light in the afternoons. Just something to consider :)

    • @deborawagner7657
      @deborawagner7657 4 года назад

      Thank you. That's good advice. I need to find a way to block the sunlight from the room I paint in better because this East Tennessee weather can shift from dark overcast skies to blinding sunlight in an hour. THAT affects how ALL my colors look . Lol. I got some "natural light" style light bulbs, so if I can block off the window I paint near, perhaps that will help .. I really am learning so much from watching your techniques and hearing your tips. Again, thank you so much for putting these videos on youtube. In a couple more years when I can afford to splurge, I'm hoping to level up to your Patreon subscription. @@RyanORourkeArtist

    Your pinkish-orange is luminous! Love this! I was telling you as I watched to change the last wave as it hit the still water, as it was too harsh a line and then you did! Lol! Do you think the foam would look more cohesive if it was a slightly lighter purple than the surrounding water? I find the blue tinge to the foam doesn't mesh well with the rest of the colour palette. Absolutely love the look of the still wave washing up on the beach. You nailed that perfectly. I may try painting this someday. 😁

    • @RyanORourkeArtist
      @RyanORourkeArtist  4 года назад

      You could certainly try the foam without the blue. The reference photo showed that it leaned more towards blue but I definitely took some artistic liberties and made it more bold. If that choice isn’t for you then a purple could be a much more subtle choice :)

    How does ur colors blend so well...

    • @RyanORourkeArtist

      The colors stay wet for as long as they do and blend well because I keep my brush relatively damp with water. I also use fairly good amount of paint which helps with flow. Recognizing the right amount is just something that comes with time and lots of practice at the easel ;) I don't use particularly expensive paints or canvas, all of my preferred materials are relatively affordable. My paints are from Liquitex Basics, Winsor & Newton as well as Academy. The canvas is from Artists Loft. Hope that helps!

    • @RyanORourkeArtist
      @RyanORourkeArtist  4 года назад +2

      I personally use a mix of them and I think it comes down to personal preference. If you want something a little more thick I would go with Liquitex Basics. If you want something a little lighter I would go with Winsor & Newton. You can also mix and match, as I do :)

    I've been trying to blend the pinkish white with the blue in the beginning of the sky and it's not blending as smoothly as yours at all.. what can I be doing wrong?

    • @RyanORourkeArtist
      @RyanORourkeArtist  4 года назад

      If the issue is with blending the two together and not the actual color mixing appropriately you may have a pretty easy fix. I would recommend making your brush slightly more wet before picking up the paint and grabbing slightly more paint than you normally do. This should keep the pigment wet longer and allow you to drag it our farther. Hope that helps
