Attitude. Skills. Plan.
Thanks to your video when you decided to switch from the VP9 to your P30 LEM V1, I decided to get P30 LEM V1 with the intention to carry. It’s because of the practicality of being able to block the hammer during holstering and still have a gun that behaves like striker fired. I’m still getting used to the long take up and reset but besides that I like how unique it operates. Still working on getting a CCW in my state and I’m happy to find your channel, feel like I’m learning a lot in a short amount of time when it comes to self defense, self defense law and some great tools to have on person to cover my ASP. Thank you for being such a great teacher and I look forward to learning more every single day
Glad to help!
Install or have the Greyguns trigger installed. It turned my P30 into my favorite. It shortens the reset big league.
How do you like your HK? The only thing I don't like is the trigger pull
@@ASPextra price for this model please?
@@uainttheone Trigger pull definitely has a learning curve to it but I like the way it operates out of the box since I want to improve my trigger pull skills. (What usually happens when I practice with it is that I am 5 times lower than I do with any other gun at first and then I adjust about 20 rounds in) My current choice of carry though is a VP9sk since the size is easier to conceal and I am currently the Most accurate with that handgun out of my other choices. (P30, Walther PDP Compact, Sig P365xl w/ holosun). The Sig is a close second but I am terrible at zeroing my sights and keeping it calibrated between each range trip is too much of a hassle for me to find it worth having, especially when I’m not as accurate with it than my VP9sk with the green front post and blacked out rear sights.
Mustang all day!!! I once carried a USP and USP Compact, over the last couple of years I have carried a VP9 as my EDC. Numerous training classes and range sessions have given me the confidence that the gun and platform will be ready if the need arise… HK is solid and I have never had any issues…
Ive seen very few people "love" as pistol like you love yours. I will "love" a firearm for awhile and then look for something else. The fact that you have such a connection to it, and have been able to put 1,500 rounds per month through it speaks volumes. It was definitely money well spent, even after your upgrades/mods
This firearm is the equal of sending your Mustang to Hennessey for tuning.
Thanks for the review!
Love my P30 especially after Grayguns magic
I've ignored the warning signs for years but John has helped me understand the true me. Today is the day I must admit I am cz p07 carrying hipster and have be in denial. Thank you John for giving me the courage and strength to come out right here in your comments section. Gotta go get my ears gauged now,you keep doing Gods work my friend.
haha glad to help. That made me actually chuckle. Now go get you a fair trade soy latte! ;)
We love you John . Thanks for sharing everything 😜🤪🤪😝🤑🤑🥳🥳🥳😎🥳😎😎😎😎🥳😎😎🥳🥳🥳🥳🥳🥳🥳🥳🥳
HK stock just went up.
Thanks for the review
Out of the 30 or so handguns I've had or still have, the P30 LEM is my favorite
What's the difference between the lem and the sk?
@@uainttheone the LEM is speaking in terms of the type of trigger. The SK is the German word for SubCompact. So, the listing of P30’s are: P30SK (SubCompact - reference the size of a Glock 26), P30 (Compact - like a Glock 19), and the P30L (Full Size - Glock 17). The triggers are V1 - LEM, and V3 - DA/SA.
I hope this helps 😬😎
I have my p30sk set up with V3. This is actually my first HK, that's because of you John... and your videos etc. You would think after 37 years of being a gun owner I would have moved to HK. In any event I love this pistol. It has become my EDC once I found a holster I like. Thanks for all your hard work to you and your team. Now looking for requalification for my HR218 now that I'm living in South Carolina... anyone with info is appreciated.
What holster do you have for your P30SK? I use a Vedder AIWB and love it
@@rtucker1004 my favorite is a low riding JP's Custom Kydex AIWB I also have a Versacarry size#1 but that is not my favorite lol. That Vedder may be a good option for as well.
I use a Vedder as well, works great!
I have the big brother, the HK 45C Light LEM and love it!
I couldn't agree more. While driving my GT Mustang carrying a P30SK v1 lem with a grayguns trigger and 507kgr on top.
I would enjoy a short video on why you carry the compact or full size (whatever it is) over the SK.
Short answer is that it's really not harder to conceal, more mass makes it easier to shoot well, and the capacity bump doesn't suck. Longer slide radius makes it easier to carry.
I have a P30L with L&M Precision (now retired) optic cut/plate with SRO optic and tall night sights. Rick at Lazy Wolf did the LEM 4.1 Lite trigger job. Fantastic...and yes, Mustang for the win!
Nice. I didn't know much about the P30. I prefer hammer-fired handguns. I'm a big fan of the Sig P229, but I'm going to be taking a look at the HK P30, now.
late reply, buy no need.. which you likely found out. Put the SRT kit in that puppy and its golden and every bit the peer of the P30 but with a way better trigger..
super cool i think building your gun how you like it is so important and fun at the same time
Last time I asked, I thought you said you had detailed it in a previous video, but I could never find it. I’m glad you made this video!
I'm a hammer fired gun guy (1911, Sig p226, HK USPc, etc.) I converted to striker fired pistols in the 2010s/teens, but, resurrected the USPc V1 when I started AIWB carry last year. I am sure the LEM trigger would be an improvement, but, I shot the standard DA/SA for over 10 years and am refamiliarizing myself with it now. I can't decide if the LEM conversion is worth it.
If you're a trigger slapper, DA/SA. If you ride the reset, LEM is for you.
Usp has the best slide release I have ever used. They should have kept that style on the vp series pistols
At first, you may jerk your shots a few inches low w/ the LEM. But that issue will soon disappear after a few hundred rounds of practice. Short answer: Absolutely, yes, get the LEM. The best out there are the V1 and V4.1 (V4 CH) with the GG SRS.
My current carry is a P30L V1 LEM for about 2 years now (thanks to your reviews of HK P30s and VP9s) and I'm looking to get a P30SK V1 LEM soon. I feel like the LEM really is a perfect trigger; nearly the same as a striker action but with the ability to second strike, thumb over the hammer for reholstering, and the longer pull allows for a bit of safety.
Also, I served w/ Lt. Col. Blish at 373. He was my CO right before he retired.
I'm still trying to get used to the LEM trigger on my P-30SK. I like the concept and the general feel, but my splits are faster with the VP9SK - or better yet, my daily carry Staccato C DUO (with Swampfox Sentinel). And I agree, Mustang for the win. (My '98 GT has a whopping 34K miles on it and is still pristine.)
Your almost one with your gun ? It's an extension of yourself isn't it? That's pretty neat.
do care about the car or you just care about how many miles it has?
Used to carry the Sig p229 DAK which was awesome. Went to the Sig p320 and have not looked back. The Sig p320 arguably has the best striker fired trigger on the market out of the box. Still carry a S&W model 66/60 in .357mag on occasions. My compact semi is the S&W M&P 9C (original).
Sig p320 X carry is my EDC, great gun very short break trigger wise which I like.
@@sammyg4806 Those are nice. I really love the consistent feel of the trigger on the p320. Very little take up and then a clean, purposeful break. I always felt the Glock was too spongy.
John, can you do a segment on how you chose the grip side panels and rear back strap to fit to your hand. No one is talking about how you optimize this wonderful adjustable grip to your individual hand. Thanks!
Love that idea.
This was a great video that I thought was going to be a shill video all day, but I felt it was objective and very well done.
Having owned a HK before, I have nothing bad at all to say about them. They make a very reliable gun. I am currently looking at getting the HK45 at the moment. I have owned a VP9, but sold it a while back as I am not fan of striker guns-if someone wantsone of those guns, more power to them, just not for me.. It has never missed a shot...ever. I absolutely LOVE the paddles on the trigger vs the buttons. Drop, and reload twice as fast as traditional gun with button. It's also ambidextrous. My wife loved shooting with this gun, as she is left handed. I am right handed. We can switch between the two of us and nothing needs to be done. I sold it to her and is her EDC. I loved the HK45 when I got to try it, but they didn't have any in stock so I got the VP9 instead. I will pick up the 45 when get taxes back. It will be my EDC. Thanks for you the video! I hope you keep doing them!
I love my P30L and SK LEM pew pews. Both shoot incredibly well. I might have to look into getting the trigger mod done though. I wish HK would apply the same mod to the 10rd SK mags they did with the full sized to increase the round count by 2. The SK is great but a bit too portly to only carry 10rds... I also wish they would release optic cut versions. It's way overdue. I guess I feel like they don't care about anything outside of their VP platform. Really unfortunate...
There are so many great options now I really don't think you can go wrong. I won't carry A full size. Or a compact? The biggest handgun I have is the Glock 27 Gen5. And I carry that in Winter. Summer I alternate between my M&P shield 2.0 my Hellcat.
I don’t get the CZ hipster thing. I just got it because it was one I rented and shot well.
New gun owner here. Thanks to videos like yours and others i think the vp9 is going to be my pistol purchase. Visited a gun shop a week ago and it settled into my hand perfectly. Not looking to conceal carry it just a home or vehicle accessory.
Don't keep guns in your car that are easily accessible.
@@devinwright7828 you're absolutely right. I plan to add some sort of pistol safe securely fastened in my truck possibly under the rear seat where there is already a storage compartment. It would likely ride in the center console while I'm in the truck and then get put into its safe home while im outside the truck. Also this will be an infrequent scenario because honestly i rarely find myself in situations currently that make me wish i already had a firearm with me. I live in a pretty small pretty safe town and we only go to the city a couple times a year. I'm new to ownership but I've been around guns my whole life so I'm pretty sensible. As it is, for my shotgun i bought a hard case with padlock holes and when im transporting it i have a steel cable looped around my seat frame that it can get padlocked to. This way if someones tries a smash and grab they can't yank the whole case out of my truck. Last thing i want is to be a stolen gun statistic.
Rent a couple at range to get a true feel.

Please, seriously, please...get some training.
Yes get some training. Your tool is no good to you unless it is on you in my opinion
FN509 Compact Tactical for me. Sweet frickin piece. Shoot dime to quarter sized groups with ease.
I carry a Glock 19M. Only mods I made to it were I stippled the grip myself and swapped out the OEM base plates with the Tango Down Vicker's Tactical base plates. The 19M from the factory has everything one could need in a defensive/combat handgun. When it comes to CCW, K.I.S.S is best.
"Only mods I made to it were I stippled the grip myself and swapped out the OEM base plates"
But what about Glock perfection?
@@papimaximus95 Lol
The grey guns trigger is literally a diy trigger job and took me 20 minutes. You can order the parts online. For $100 it’s an amazing trigger.
I like the Cloud Defensive lights on the desk in the background. 😏
+1 on Wright Armory’s I-Dot conversion to run dots on P30 series pistols.
This is the second time I've been called a hipster because I like and shoot a lot of cz's... The first guy that told me that was Jedi... Ha ha ha... But I am switching over to a p30l lem as well with a 509 holosun (also done by Wright and greyguns), and primarily, my reason is to have the trigger feel of striker while maintaining the hammer. (Plus, I can rest my thumb on the hammer on reholstering and block any trigger movement, which to me is a plus).. Great overview...
Shadow systems mr920 combat with optic cut and threaded barrel. Griffin armament micro carry comp. Black Multicam cerakote job on the slide only. Blacked out SS front and rear irons. 509tgr-x2 with circle only reticle. In a Trex arms sidecar 2.0(holster setup depending on the attire worn that day). That's my setup I have perfected and evolved into over a decade or more
I love the threaded barrel, no size difference and adds almost an inch. Who doesn't want another inch?
I carry a Sig P938 with a Crimson Trace laser dot. The thing is super easy to conceal and the laser dot is wicked. At the range it puts a bullet through the dot every single time, even holding the gun at waist level.
Glock23 Gen3 clean + Sticky LG2 stealth holster. Nosler 180 grain hollow points. OD green with Black Slide.
I love my two P2000sk lem’s for the same reasons.
Thanks for the review! Please consider doing one on the p320 or p365 next!
On a separate note, I had never used a dot before, so after talking to some friends, I was able to track down a very hard to get 507C in green, mounted it and wondered why it was so blurry. I did some research and found out that astigmatism may make you optic blurry. I’m devastated and hoping a new glasses prescription will help. If you know anything else that would help, I’m listening!
I’m too old for a red dot. A laser is better for me.
I’ve been looking for a red dot to add to my HK P30. But I can’t seem ever find any with a mount. Now, I’m going to check out this 507C, thank you.
I bought a Vp9 because one of your videos.and sold my g19
Love my HK VP9SK. Love the channel.
I like the Mustang better for current generation, but the 60's and 70's era Camaro's those are the best! And man I dig that 2 tone look with the silver slide stop and barrel...looks killer!
67-69 Camaro is peak classic muscle IMO.
Wright Armory took over NP3 finishing from Robar and they discontinued the service on October 15th 2021.
My CZ PCR was returned to me refinished inside and out with NP3+ on October 14th.
Glad you got yours done! I know VangComp is still doing NP3 on stuff.
My carry is my p229 👍 love the DASA guns in general. I sometimes will take a double action revolver into the bush though (gp100 or sp101)
I ordered the Master Reduced Reset Action Package from Lazy Wolf Guns because of this video, for my P30SK LEM…. It arrives in 2 days… Beyond psyched to get it!!!
Oh man, nice! Let me know what you think. I love their work.
@@ASPextra Just got it back and it’s exactly how you showed us… Phenomenal work by Rick @ Lazy Wolf, for sure! Too bad HK couldn’t just build them like that, right? Looking forward to trying it out on the range now…. 😁
This is cool that this vid popped in my feed. Lol I did the V3 with the DA/SA trigger. ( I'm weird, I know)
Only took me 12 years of shooting to finally get an HK 🤣🤣 I don't think it'll replace my Berettas as my favorite, but we shall see.
I carry a M&P 2.0 9mm, but I'll be changing to the shield plus soon.
I have seen a few HKs I like though, so maybe I'll pick one of those up aswell.
Very nice! I just purchased my first P30L with the LEM trigger. Very curious about the trigger work that you had done. Thank you for an informative video.
The grey guns trigger job is literally a diy job and took me 20 minutes. You can order the parts online. For $100 it’s an amazing trigger.
@@mikerobinson8734 Thank you very much for the information.
Thanks for the breakdown.
I do like my P30l V1 LEM . I do want Lazy Wolf to tune it up though.
I really should send my P30 or P30sk to LWG. I love DAO revolvers and semi-autos and the LEM system is IMO one of the best. I do find I shoot my VP9 OR better beyond 20yds (shitty eyesight) and I wish I had gotten one of mine to L&M to be milled before Mark retired. Now I'm looking at Wright Armory's milling options for the near future.
I have a p30 LEM. I love the trigger concept. Mine has a weird tendency to double occasionally when I pin the trigger (slow fire/longer range shots). When I’m running close and fast, it’s perfect. That doesn’t happen with my striker fire or regular DA/SA hammer guns. To me, the grip texture is perfect, and I really like aggressive grip texture (I have some very aggressive G10 grips on a few of my other handguns).
What do you mean by "double"?
I keep hoping HK will put something out that competes with the p365xl but I have a feeling it won’t happen for a while. They just released the vp9sk in optics ready so they wouldn’t kill that gun by selling the same capacity in a smaller gun.
I have a different full size that works for me from walther (ppq m1 for the paddle) and an rmr. I just need something better for summer carry I think.
Honestly the micro 9 market is so saturated it makes sense to stick with the larger frames. The micro 9s are cool, but aiwb in a quality holster/ belt I can carry a gun I actually enjoy shooting.
A micro 9 from HK would be super cool.
Outstanding firearm. Have you done a video yet on your home defense P30?
This one is my home defense pistol as well.
I've been carrying a 45c for a few months, and I'm already eyeing a p30sk v3. I just don't want to have to mill the slide for an rmr.
kind of new to the HKLine up but I thought that the P30 V1 LEM was d/a only. In your video I see the hammer stays cocked after the 1st shot or was that part of the trigger job you had done?
It's the reverse of traditional double action, DA/SA. The LEM is SA with a DA possible if a misfire occurs.
This is a safer platform for those who appendix carry. Makes holstering much safer when putting the thumb on the hammer. Acts much like the striker device used on Glocks.
I’m a Glock19 girl here but we do run the same dot! My eyes pick up the green better than the red as well….
Nice. Makes sense. My birthday is next week. I'll send my FFL's info over. :)
Nice pistol , I had a vp9 and have big hands and the HK trigger guard suck on the hands and mag release sucks!
I love the paddle mag release and I wear size XL gloves.
Canik Elite SC in Patriot Brown.🇺🇲
Wow now I have to get one of those gun
For the thousands of holster draws I can imagine that hk has been through surprises me how good the finish it. Both my glock and hellcat almost look battleworn and I doubt they have had ad many draws as this hk.
The cerakote has held up very well.
Cool to see your EDC iron! Do you pop a WML on it for EDC or are you just rocking the offhand light nowadays? Thanks!
Handheld light for me.
HK make a p30 Optics Ready. Lets go HK, you suck on consumer market innovation and you know it.
Thanks for sharing!
I've never understood these threaded barrels.
90% of people never put anything on them, so you end up with a slightly longer barrel, but without the longer slide and the benefits of it. And from what I've seen, they get caught on holsters more often than they offer any real use.
Yep! Not sure of the point of a threaded barrel on an EDC firearm.
I agree. I couldn't care less what someone else does but I wouldn't want one on my carry gun. It seems to bulk up a gun that you specifically don't want to be bulky for no apparent gain. I've owned suppressors and they're ok but when the new neatness wares off, they're an expensive toy that is 99.9% of the time impractical and a nuisance. For most people, fads are a powerful thing. Each to their own.
Like I said, not something I really needed. That said, it’s not a hindrance because my holster is long anyway.
@@landontruman3632 I was having trouble finding the newer sig xcarry legion but finally found a new one and it came with the threaded barrel. I thought maybe I'll add a compensator to my carry down the road when the technology maybe gets Alittle better but honestly it's been a huge annoyance at the range because every 30-40 shots at the range the threat protector on the tip of the barrel works itself so loose that another shot or two will send it flying. I've thought about using a dab of thread locker but I'm wondering with barrel heat if that's even something worth trying....
@@ASPextra I was just fishing for a use.
And I meant catching them on the edge at the top going in or out, not getting stuck once they're in.
I tried concealing a P30SK and it just wasn't working out. It was too chonky for a 10 round subcompact. The LEM trigger is dope though, I wish my P365XL had it.
I would like to hear about the P2000. Where does it fit in the HK line? Why do you name your guns, do you name all of them?
Thanks John, that texture looks great, how do we reach ROBAR?
That's a gorgeous, Gucci gun, fam.
Gucci af.
Regarding LEM
I need to try a LEM but none of the gun shops within 200 miles appear to have them. To summarize LEM:
#1. Long but lightweight first trigger pull, gun shoots,
#2. Reset the trigger, fire, subsequent lightweight short trigger pulls
#3. If release the trigger (instead of reset per #2) then hammer decocks, and any subsequent trigger pulls will be like #1??
Did I get this ight?
So the big advantage with LEM is pretty much all in the first shot, since subsequent shots will break similar to the 2nd shot and subsequent ones from a DA/SA gun, right?
One thing the LEM does not allow is prior to the first trigger pull, cock the hammer (like on an SA/DA), right?
No, there is no decock on the LEM.
1:47 Would you prefer to drive a Mustang or Camaro? As I get older … I think I’d prefer the “ beater car” (less of a target), And spend my money elsewhere … 🤷🏻♂️
In a modern car, Mustang > Camaro all day.
Hi John, thanks for your education channel. Would you let me know where did you get your P30 optic cut? Does your slide have cavity inside of the slide? Kindly advise, thanks!
Wrightarmory.com
Thank you so much, John.
I’m going to be getting one of these and sending to Rick Holmes. What do I say to him to get the same trigger setup in this video?
Just tell him you want the same setup as John from ASP. He knows what he did. It's delightful. :)
My question is why wouldn’t someone want a de-cocker? Whats the point in not having one?
I have the P30 V3 with the traditional DA/SA hammer. V3 has de-cocker and V1 doesn’t. After having it, learning how it works and how to use it, I cant imagine my life having a traditional safety, or not having a de-cocker.
(Unless its a gun with a safety & de-cocker as one, then I’ll never have it on safety and use the lever only to de-cock).
Because LEM is way better than a decocker? Having a consistent trigger pull is helpful. So all the benefits of a hammer and all the benefits usually reserved for striker is awesome.
I have the p30 sk... Love it! ... How did you put the red dot on yours??. Is. It true HK is making a micro 9??
Tried the Lem but didn’t like it. Couldn’t get used to the long take up. Currently carry WC EDC X9
That’s interesting!
Could you elaborate on the circle-only dot? I understand circle-only for shotguns but have never heard of it for a pistol
There's videos on the channel about it.
It's an 8 inch circle at self defense distances. Basically minute of bad guy. It's precise enough and quick to pick up.
Here's a couple videos we did on it last year that you might find helpful:
ruclips.net/video/U69zu1qZMoI/видео.html
ruclips.net/video/co7EqXxteR4/видео.html
I have the holosun 507k gr, I used to do the circle but I noticed because I wear prescription glasses if I'm not wearing them the circle looks smeared mud, I run the dot only just in case I lose my glasses
I think it’s a very personal decision based on how you see, so good on you for finding what works for your vision!
Curious about what your holster set up is for your P30’s? I am waiting for my v1 LEM to arrive! I can’t wait! I have ordered 2 holsters for it. (KSG & Safariland). I know your preferences, but you haven’t done a holster set up in a while or for the P30….. Any chance you will do one in the future?
KSG is great. I currently run a Dark Star Gear Orion and it is phenomenal too.
Recently got a p30sk LEM that I'm really enjoying. Gotta improve that reset tho, thinking of going with a GrayGuns reset kit cuz it's a carry gun for me.
Anybody have any experience with the GrayGuns kit? (Not the full rework package)
I eventually wanna to get a full sized P30LEM that I would send over to Lazy Wolf
The GG short reset package is phenomenal.
FINALLY. Somebody else who prefers Straight 8s. haha
Great !!
Hey John I have been a big fan of yours for a couple of years now. My only question I have for you is your P30 the regular size or the long slide?
This one is a regular length, but the threaded barrel means I need a L holster.
i bought a sig p365xl a couple of months ago. love it. i am waiting for holosun to come out with their scs (solar charging sight). it's due out in mid 2022. it's a gun specific sight, lower profile. do you know anything about it? thanks
Hehe I carry a sar9 . Basically the clone of ur gun but not as fleshed out . U got a sweet setup my guy !
Hello John. I currently carry a striker fired pistol. Even though I carry strong side at 3:00 rather than appendix, I have been giving consideration to transitioning to a P30sk V1 LEM for the same reasons you have given for preferring the LEM trigger. I note that Neil has continued to carry his VP9. I assume he has had an opportunity to try your P30 with the LEM trigger. Since he carries appendix, I am curious as to why he also didn’t convert from the fully cocked striker of the VP9 to what seems to be the safer LEM trigger on the P30.
He loves his VP9. It's a perfectly safe gun to carry. So he carries it. :)
John I love your videos but serious question. with having a red dot on your carry gun, how do you get the red dot in the battle wouldn’t you have to press a button to turn it on ? Genuine question
No it stays on all the time. Battery lasts about 2 years I change it annually.
Y’all will mention my xdm elite one day 😭
Where did you find the barrel blocks that let the chamber close?
Amen
I have the tridium glow sights are they too low to see behind the red dot?
Great video. Where do you come up with your names for these guns?
Mostly Shakespeare.
Hey John. Did you ever carry/shoot the P30 series with the standard V1 LEM WITHOUT modifications from GrayGuns, Lazy Wolf etc? What is your opinion on a stock V1 LEM?
IMO the V1 LEM is good, but the reset is a little long for me. Especially with the GG short reset system being sold as a kit, it makes sense to me to replace.
