    Sometime in the mid 1970's I hauled 40,000 pounds of Class B Explosives. It was a Government load of explosives for the Yakima Firing Range (U.S. Army base) outside Yakima, Washington. The rules for that load was there had to be two drivers, and when ever you stopped, one of the drivers had to stay with the truck. It was kind of exciting for a young man and new driver (driving about a year).

      Wow! High security load for sure!!! That sounds like it would be ‘exciting’ for just about anyone! Glad you stayed unscathed!

    I enjoy your videos so much! I love learning from you guys ... you present situations, the ups, the downs, great gadgets to get (such as a leaf blower to clean out the trailer), the driver AND passenger aspects, and all kinds of helpful things!! I'm in the process of studying to get my permit in about 3 weeks, then finding a driving school and hopefully hired at entry level. I know Crete mandates 1 years' experience, which is fair. This is my second career after a computer job. Have been commuting for years 600 miles weekly to work for well over a decade on the weekends ... am very used to driving with truckers on the highways. I'd much prefer driving around them to regular vehicles. God bless you Kevin and Tanya!!

      Thank you soooooo much for your kind words!!!! We really appreciate it!!! We are so glad that you enjoy our videos and are learning from them. That is our hope and motivation. We love to entertain and help flatten that learning curve for new drivers.
      Congratulations on your decision to pursue a second career in trucking! You’ll enjoy getting out from behind the desk and on the road getting paid to see the country!
      We wish you all the best on your journey! Keep us updated!
      Now back to studying 😉🤗

    Back in the mid eighties I was part of an escort team following two 45 foot box trailers. These two trailers were pulled by two sleeper team trucks, inside the trailers were 55 gallon drums of Haz Mat liquid. The placards were flammable, corrosive, poison, inhalation hazard and had to be in a certain order on the four sides of the trailers. We went from Hahnville,La to Union Beach,N.J., non stop, except for fuel! One of our truck drivers made a wrong turn getting back onto the interstate and we ended up in a subdivision at 2 in the morning! WOOPS! Sorry so long, fun times!😅

      Wonder what it was and what they did with it once it got to NJ?🤔

    Good video! Year's ago when we had the permanent steel placards that flipped, many drivers thought it was funny to "" fly"" radioactive ☢ or dangerous etc placards . Until they forgot they had them showing and got pulled over and ended up showing the LEO or DOT officer a empty trailer. Law enforcement takes a dim view of those hijinks ! Travel safe and God bless!

    I do enjoy how involved Crete is with their loads, especially hazmat. Some view it as babysitting but it's just them wanting to make sure you're legal and know what to do. I don't have my endorsement but have hauled loads with less than 1,000 pounds of hazmat and even then crete wants you to call in just to go over the paperwork and make sure everything is good to go and legal. I appreciate that.

    A guy pulled into a spot next to me in Illinois not too long ago. His trailer looked like a witch's kettle. I asked, "Hey, Bro. What do you haul in that?" He said, "nuclear waste." I said, "Dude, move that thing the f**k away from me!" As always, travel safely...✌🏼

    Had it once in the beginning. Dropped it….. it didn’t pay better. More scrutiny from state Police and many cities require you to belt ways around the city . To Many cons and very little upsides. Stay safe out there. Civility is In the Decrease.

    Question 🙋‍♀️ does Crete have cameras facing the driver?
    Is there a contact saying that you need to work with them a certain number of years?
    Thanks 🙏

    • @TheJoyofTrucking
      @TheJoyofTrucking  Месяц назад +2

      Love the ‘raising your hand emoji’! 😆😆😆
      Crete decides on an individual basis if you might have an inward facing camera for a limited time. Depends on experience and your driving record. When Kevin started he had 60 days of an inward facing camera. But we didn’t mind because we knew it was worth it. At night we’d put tape over it. 😆 (Just have to remember to take it off again😉).
      There is no minimum time commitment. You can leave at any point.
      Hope that helps! If you do apply to Crete, please be so kind and give them our driver code, SLOKEV. We’d be very grateful! And let us know if you have other questions. 😃

    How often do you gotta renew your hazmat endorsement. I got mine about two years ago and i just came from my dmv and they told me my endorsement isnt up for renewal until 2027 and that i dont need to take any test until i have to renew it

    • @TheJoyofTrucking
      @TheJoyofTrucking  22 дня назад

      Good question! I was just googling that. Seems there’s some variation among states. In General i found 5 years, but each state is different. For Florida (our state of residence) I found this “CDLs with HAZMAT endorsements must be renewed every four years, and may be renewed up to one year before they expire.” Kevin got his CDL 3 years ago…so is that the time line? Not sure…because he didn’t get a new CDL…he just took the test sent to him by Crete. Warrants more research. What state are you in?
