You should try real Dolby Atmos. A headset can never come close to true 3D audio. Resident Evil 2 had it and it was insane. It literally sounded like the tyrant was on my roof when he is above you
@@Fabio-ql5yf No Dolby Atmos headphones and sound bars are a gimmick. I'm talking about a 7.2.4 or 5.1.2 setup. 5-7 speakers around you with 2-4 ceiling speakers and a sub or two. That's what Dolby Atmos was designed for. Overhead speakers. Home theater setups. Atmos Soundbars have two speakers that point up to bounce off the ceiling but they don't work at all. With overhead speakers that literally sounds like a helicopter or whatever is above you. And Atmos headsets will never come close because they're still only two speakers. They just use software emulation to make it sound like you have 3D sound.
It still blows my mind that Sony requires an external usb dongle to use their own headset that they built. Build that into the console. Just remember the build quality is made to last one year. I've had the 1st & 2nd gen PS4 headset and they all lasted about one year (weak plastic gets broken).
If anyone is wondering, these are literally just wireless headphones. No more, no less. They themselves do nothing for the audio, meaning there is no sound processing done within the headphones themselves. The PS5 is doing ALL of the processing and then just sending that audio out to “speakers”, more or less. If you already have a nice gaming headset, or just a super comfy pair of headphones, you don’t need this headset unless you really hate having the cord plugged into your controller.
Sony still makes it a confusing mess IMHO. Cerny's presentation clearly showed that the 3D audio through the Tempest engine also works on stereo headsets. The Pulse 3D headset apparently only has 1 driver per ear, so it's by definition a stereo headset. So why then do you get less of surround effects when wired to the controller than by using the dongle. And why is a dongle needed anyway ? The way I understood the dongle of my PS4 Gold headset, it's doing the transcoding from surround into stereo to get virtual surround in the headset, but since the PS5 has the Tempest engine/chip, such conversion is happening in the console. So what's the function of the dongle then ???
I thought 3D sound can only be active via wired connection. I’m not a headset person, but I’m definitely considering this. Can this fit with the PSVR on?
@@krystianedward7351 it's a button that you push. The top button prioritizes the game and the bottom button prioritizes the chat. You hear a button beep each time you press either and both beeps are different, which helps you differentiate between the two. It does make a huge difference though. I was playing with a fairly soft spoken friend the other day and I clicked chat 3 times and I could actually hear her, while still hearing the game. Pretty incredible stuff honestly. I've had 7.1 surround sets made by Turtle Beach before, but much prefer these.
My only gripe is that I wish there was a spot for it on that double controller charging dock... woulda been nice if I could throw the headset on there too
So far I am loving this with my PS4. Can't wait to use it on my PS5. They aren't wrong with being aware of the battery. Sometimes after using it for 6 or 7 hours I see it with one bar. But then I just charge it when I'm not using it.
Seriously bummed to hear the battery is so short. I was interested in this specifically because my other Sony headphones last 30 hours on a single charge, and that's with active noise cancelling to boot.
Sony is a titan in the sound industry. But all the :PlayStation: headsets they have released have been extremely uncomfortable. I hope that they ship their 3d audio update quick so that people can use it with headsets like HyperX
"Surround sound isn't active over a wired connection so you don't get a full effect." Does this mean that 3D audio won't work out of the 3.5mm jack?! Nobody has been touching base on this. Is this for all headsets, or just this one?
Is that even correct? Seems incorrect. I have the Platinum and I can tell you, it sounds way better with 3D while its connected via wire. When you go wireless, there is a noticeable drop in audio. I also read up online that almost every wireless headset sounds better when there is a wired connection compared to the bluetooth connection

My platinum is still working after more than 3 years. The leather on the ear cups have peeled off though...
@@chaosvirusFX The plastics get broken so easily.
I've had my Uncharted Gold Headset for over 5 years now. Only recently did they stop working.
It really makes you feel like a headset
Accept Jesus Christ as your lord and savior he died for your sins
Should i get this headphones? Or a razer perhaps?
Would be great if they weren’t sold out everywhere ):(
I hope can get one sooner than later.
Just tried it fits around your vr perfectly
Target had them in stock at 3pm est but by the time I clicked the link to order the product, it was already sold out.
Why's he got so much alcohol in the background.
They was sold out when I did my pre order so hopefully I can get my hands on some soon
Very well done review and excellent presentation guys!
Do you even need these for the 3d audio
How is the chat to game audio mix??
From my experience it's super simple and really accurate.
@@Brandr3ws can you noticeably tell the difference when turning the knob in a party while playing?
@@krystianedward7351 it's a button that you push. The top button prioritizes the game and the bottom button prioritizes the chat. You hear a button beep each time you press either and both beeps are different, which helps you differentiate between the two.
It does make a huge difference though. I was playing with a fairly soft spoken friend the other day and I clicked chat 3 times and I could actually hear her, while still hearing the game.
Pretty incredible stuff honestly. I've had 7.1 surround sets made by Turtle Beach before, but much prefer these.
@@Brandr3ws thanks, thats really helpful👍
My only gripe is that I wish there was a spot for it on that double controller charging dock... woulda been nice if I could throw the headset on there too
update... there is a nice item on etsy that essentially does this... looks great
So far I am loving this with my PS4. Can't wait to use it on my PS5. They aren't wrong with being aware of the battery. Sometimes after using it for 6 or 7 hours I see it with one bar. But then I just charge it when I'm not using it.
So, it has a mic yes?
I just played with my headphones on my PC and it sounds dope.
Do a review video on the usb cord charger next
No One:

Why didn't you show us what the mic sounds like?
Finally, a legit reviewer! Keep this guy around, he knows his stuff
I would have liked them to compare the pulse against a regular headset plugged into the controller. Do we lose the 3d audio?
Do they work on xbox
Mines just came in today, just waiting for Thursday to get the system
the opening background music on the video has tron legacy vibes
Can you use the mute button on the dualsense controller to mute the pulse 3D wireless headset?
I don’t need it
I need it 😭
Darth Vader I’m right there with ya!

Spongebob, is that you?
@@waubadoo no this is pAtRiCk
You can use any headphones to benefit the tempest 3D tech. Just plug it in the DualSense controller
why would you want wired though? It should be wireless
Seriously bummed to hear the battery is so short. I was interested in this specifically because my other Sony headphones last 30 hours on a single charge, and that's with active noise cancelling to boot.
How are you disappointed with 12 hours lol, you plan on playing 12 hours in a row or something?!? Just charge it when your ain’t using it
@@gangbangerranga3401 sounds like a troll post lol you are right 12 hours is plenty
Because it meant for u to plug in all the way with 3d surround sound activated along with it
Does the headset come with it?
I was waiting for some kind of review before i was to buy this headset. Looks like i'm buying it (at some point)
Can it be paired with smartphones as a regular headphones?
Sony is a titan in the sound industry. But all the :PlayStation: headsets they have released have been extremely uncomfortable. I hope that they ship their 3d audio update quick so that people can use it with headsets like HyperX
You can use it with any headphones.
I did not like wearing the Gold PS headset last gen but the Pulse headset is a lot more comfortable to wear.
Never had an issue I've had the goods and the platinums
"Surround sound isn't active over a wired connection so you don't get a full effect."
Does this mean that 3D audio won't work out of the 3.5mm jack?!
@@chorizoloco8220 This seems very incorrect based upon everything I've used and everything I've read/heard. I'd love clarification on what this is supposed to mean.
@@tylerstravis are you referring to what I said or the video?
@@chorizoloco8220 I'm agreeing with you and referring to what was said in the video.
@@tylerstravis ok, sorry was confused. But then again this is IGN. We probably won't get the best break down of the the PS5 headset until the real audiophile headset reviewers get there hands on one and can compare different headsets with the PS5 console itself
Imagine reviewing a wireless headset without mentioning latency once........
Hopefully that means it wasn't an issue at all
... that depends on your connection ...
I've been using the headset for over a week on the PS4, and I haven't noticed any issues whatsoever.
fun, so wht are you wearing the steelseries arctis?))
When your headphones get a better score than the console that they work with
Should I buy this ps5 headset or steel series Arctic 5?
Amazing! this headset has worried for many people being cheaply made comparing to high-end gaming headset
Does it vibrate like the original ps3 pulse headset ??
I just wanna wirelessly pair my xm3s 🤦🏽♂️
Not worth it. Mic quality is terrible.
Wait, you cant pair sony headphones with sony consoles?
@@spazco8669 Not through Bluetooth.
@@andersontavarez1482 For the players.
But will they break within a year like the Playstation Gold headphones?
