Great video man. Literally just got my PS5 a few days ago and came across your video as the Pulse Headset was included in my bundle. I really like it but I agree the sound is a bit flat and muddy in places but I’m having a really good time with them.
I'm using a Sennheiser BT headset that connects to my TV, and the sound on my PS is now way better than the wireless headsets from Sony. Added benefit is that you can use the headset for everything, like watching Netflix or Prime Video on the TV app, instead of the PS headset, that you can only use with the PS. Extra bonus is that your console doesn't have to do any sound processing, so your CPU can focus on game performance. Think these headsets might still make sense if you use a monitor with your console?
So I had to stop the video at 11:28 and called bullshit on his sound analysis of the Pulse 3-D. I was amazed by not only how much space it can create but also how clear the bass is and how clear the mid to high frequencies are when you hear the bass. It’s actually one of the things that amazes me a most about using the 3-D pulse. I’ve play Cold War for PS5 Miles Morales and ratchet and clank. The sound is not only in depth with a very clear 3-D Output but very balanced in its lows to highs but the clarity of it all working together shows that PlayStation has really change the Game when they decided to put a separate engine for sound. This Tempest 3-D audio system in the PlayStation 5 is revolutionary. This dude said flat out that the frequencies sound flat and there’s absolutely no bass. This is usually a result of people using headphones with oversaturated bass. Thinking that that’s the norm. However that saturated base bleeds in to the mid to high frequencies creating an unbalanced and unclear listening experience. I can tell you as an audio engineer what he just said was absolute and total bullshit.
Is this true? The one thing said here that is making me rethink buying the pulse is the lack of bass. Is there a big difference after settings adjustment?
I reviewed the A20s when they were first released. I thought they were so good that I bought one for each of my squad mates. They were completely missed by so many reviewers back in 2020.

I just picked up my ps5, and have a hyper x headset that I used on my ps4 but thanks to your review I’m debating buying the Astro a20 I’ve always been told Astro has great headsets but never bought one.
I bought these two and tested them just like you! I let go of the A20s unfortunately ONLY because in party they had a crazy static noise on the mic. Not sure if you had that ? Also for Warzone the pulse 3ds were a lot more directional i felt
@@chrissrevnge7541 On the A20's ? best thing would be to keep your mic volume as low as you can and then not to put it on full volume. I don't think they are fully compatible mate, i picked up a pair of arctis 7p after about 6 diff headsets. They are the ones if you can go for them
I had to return the Sony Pulse 3d headset because the clamp pressure was too tight for my big head and it was getting uncomfortable. I have the Astro A20 Gen 1 headset and it sound better.
Have both of these. The biggest downside to the Sony pulse is that you can’t mute the mic using the ps5 controller mute button. Which is horrible bc you have to continuously reach up to mute the mic, which has gotten me killed a few time. Also, they are tight and the elastic band is a headache, especially if you have a lot of hair. Also sound sounded very hollow The Astros are probably the best sounding headphones I’ve ever had. Also able to be muted with the controller. It’s a very comfortable fit and has adjustable Volume on the headset. Definitely better between the 2.
I was looking at new headsets last night, and I was between the Astro A20 Gen 2 or the Sony ones. I liked the look of the Sony ones but they are white and I feel like they could get Cheezy poof stains on them after a while. The Astro's were $20 more expensive but honestly I really love them so far. They connected instantly when I turned them on. I really love the thick cloth padding, feels like a nice pillow, a little disappointed with the EQ. I can't tell a huge difference, I'm a musician and would like to think I have a fairly keen ear, but I just can't hear that much of a difference. Overall I so like the audio quality, wireless is a plus. The mic boom is really maliable so I can move the mic to wherever feels necessary. Pleased so far. Great video dude.
Idk if this was before an update but sony let's you customize the eq for the 3d pulse on the playstation so maybe give that a try if you haven't because I'd love to know if it made any difference on your opinion
Nice Review, the only thing i wish for is a comparision in sound from the mics. You could record a short sentence with both of the Headsets and put it in the video next time.
Thanks mate, you're totally correct, I should have done this. I did a review yesterday (of the 7Ps) and did include the A20 mic audio in that. Always learning, so thank you.
@@maximushernandez2583Thanks man! I appreciate it lol This man doing the review exaggerates about a lot of things in this video. Not to sound biased or anything, but every negative thing he said about the Pulse 3D is incorrect. I was literally HOLDING my headset as he criticized it and just laughed. It's not cheap, It's legit and feel great. It's a sony headset, why would it feel cheap? lol it pretty weightless, which I appreciate. It's also VERY comforting, one of the best I've had. Once you turn them on, imagine playing a game in an IMAX theater..oh yea lol It just sucks how they look to this guy for answers, then just DROP the Pulse 3D just cause this man says the most pointless negative things.
@@maxwellflores9160 alright well thanks man I've been trying to get like an honest review on the pulse 3ds because even before I ordered them last night they all seemed biased or something, I just got the ps5 so I knew I needed a new headset and now I'm just hoping it's pretty good because I have high expectations for the audio but now I really just wanna make sure the microphone sounds good because that's the problem I had with my last one after switching to ps5, it just made my mic that I was using for 2 years sound like shit even tho on the ps4 it sounds perfectly fine, but thanks again man
Yeh it is, but unfortunately it’s limited to HDMI 2.0, which would be a bottle neck for my 2.1 setup. I’ll have to wait until the new A50s eventually come.
@@SpawnPoiint I just thought of something lol. The A50s can do everything the A20s can do without the need for the adapter. That is only needed if you want to balance game/chat audio.
Wow, I thought the wasp eyes on the sides of my PC38x looked a bit odd until I saw this Astro headset. Whatever audience they're targeting definitely doesn't include me.
I've had all of them basically. Had so many problems with a50s. Just got a40s and it came loose around the right headphone. A20 is the best I think. Same 40 mm drivers. Chat/audio mix....still love astro with all the problems for some reason.
Yup I'm switching. I bought the Pulse 3D thinking their Sony for Sony's console, it'll be better and more optimal. But comfort alone, the Sony Pulse 3D are horrendous. I hate the rubbery headband. And the leather like ear cuffs my god whose idea was that. Astro A20's here I come. Great review!
@@maxwellflores9160 Really?? Huh, maybe I just have sensitive ears then. The leather and more circular style didn't mesh well with me. I got the Astro's now, and the foam/more oval shape is far more comfortable for long sessions.
I have one too, and it really fits well with the dualsense and ps5s design, I use the third loudest option, its okay, and the 3D audio is amazing. Comfort is okay, but if I have the headset too much in the back, the insides of the earcufs start pushing onto my ears, but its mostly fine. And obviously you cant mute it via a controller cuz it has a physical on/off switch.
Been spending the last 2 days deciding between these exact headsets and your video popped up. After watching I made an easy decision to get the A20s. Good review my man 💪🏼
nice vid !! but my personal opinion for me the I've been enjoying the 3d pulse more than the other u see if u want the sound to get better on games just go to the settings and put on 3d headphones sound !!!
Just bought mine you are in for a hell of a gaming experience. Everyone wants the most comfy. I want the best sound. I literally spent $600 on new headphones the last 2 weeks and the 3D pulse are killing them all🔥🔥
You actually can mute the headset with the controller. Tapping the mute button will turn it orange and just mute your mic, but if you hold down the mute button then the orange light will blink softly and you mic will be muted and your audio will be muted too
How do they sound? I have A50s collecting dust. I also have the platinums and just bought the pulse 3D and so far the plats sound better but still not as good as I would hope.
Does the mic sound muffled when you talk and does other peoples voices in chat or party sound lower ? Or is that just me? I even have it in wired wtf Edit: other peoples voice sound normal when it’s in wired but when your wireless they’re voice is lower overall it’s better wired but for what your paying for the mic should be better when your wireless seriously
I agree 100%, we’re talking about the PlayStation 5 in 2021 and we still need a dongle for a 1st party accessory.. That was the first thing I thought when I opened the box. It feels like they put no effort into anything but the styling, yet there’s an ugly dongle sticking out of my oddly designed PS5. I was also pleasantly surprised that the mute button on the controller works for the A50s, yet doesn’t on the pulse 3D’s. Again not thought through on Sony’s part. Sony needs to rethink their headset offering IMO and come out with something in the $250 range with much less emphasis on looks and more on sound quality, build quality and R&D. I can’t stand the button placement on the Pulse 3Ds either. Sticking with A50s until the next model. Even then I’ll most likely stick with Gen 3s as my tv will only do 4k60 anyways. Great review 👍
1. Plug it into the back of the console, you don't need it sticking out the front. There's 2 USB spots on the back. 2. The headset uses a dedicated 2.4Ghz band specifically for the headset. The PS5 (and every console since 7th Gen) has a band specifically for controllers, and not for the headset. All headsets that have been wireless for consoles have required a dongle. It's like complaining about how you just bought a new car and are upset how you still need to use a steering wheel to drive it.
Thanks, I didn't really consider these, was going to get the pulse 3Ds but will definitely consider them or wait until the A50s are compatible, I don't particularly use headphones, just when the children are in bed so will only be a small percentage of the time but i don't want to lose any quality. Especially considering the 3d Audio on the ps5. 👍
If you hold the mute button down it will mute all audio and microphone coming from the 3D Pulse. Not sure if you'd missed this or if it was a later update added.
They are comfortable but the mic sucks my friends said I sounded distorted so I plugged in my a10 and I sounded fine. Just bought a20’s so can’t wait to try
Was set on the Pulse 3D since I just got my PS5, that is until I watched this video. The Pulse 3D style is cooler, but I had to go for the A20’s. If the sound and mic quality is better then this is a no brainer for me personally. Great review, helped me out so much. My Astros should be here tomorrow.
@@Elric33 They are great! I've had them for a couple days now, And they are like you are in an IMAX. I feel like this guy is extremely picky with this review, which is unfortunate, knowing people will just listen to him, and drop the ps5 headset for the other. I mean, I don't hate the guy, But I think he's wrong in many ways. Plus the Astros is even more expensive, which also sucks. The headset doesn't feel cheap. When I heard him say that, I laughed in shock at how wrong/picky he is. The headset feel nice and legit. It's lightweight, yes, but it's not some "Cheap plastic". I bought these two and tested them just like you! I let go of the A20s unfortunately ONLY because in party they had a crazy static noise on the mic. Not sure
if you had that ? Also for Warzone the pulse 3ds were a lot more directional i felt
I have that on mine do you know how to fix it ?
@@chrissrevnge7541 On the A20's ? best thing would be to keep your mic volume as low as you can and then not to put it on full volume. I don't think they are fully compatible mate, i picked up a pair of arctis 7p after about 6 diff headsets. They are the ones if you can go for them
Wow ps5 really outdid their selves on making chat unbearable.
I love that you made this video. For days ive been debating which of these to choose. And watching this video settled a endless battle in my mind

I had to return the Sony Pulse 3d headset because the clamp pressure was too tight for my big head and it was getting uncomfortable. I have the Astro A20 Gen 1 headset and it sound better.
Your loss.
Thank you very much I was in a predicament about what headset to buy I was on the lines for the the Sony pulse but now I am getting the Astro A20 🙌🏻
how are they?
Your loss. The Pulse 3d is the best gaming headset I've ever had. And I have gamed since I was 11. I'm 25
@@maxwellflores9160 do your friends complain muffled sound coming from your end? It’s the major drawback of Pulse, mic is very mediocre
@@sinnersdemise9054 Not really, no. they actually complimented it. I believe the mic is pretty damn great! Maybe you have a faulty one.
I bought the Pulse 3D for 100 bucks and the only thing I don’t like is the battery but other than that they are a great headset
Also sound sounded very hollow
The Astros are probably the best sounding headphones I’ve ever had. Also able to be muted with the controller. It’s a very comfortable fit and has adjustable Volume on the headset. Definitely better between the 2.
That makes zero sense. You would assume some brand synergy there
Shut up you wimp
This was the exact video I was looking for. These were the 2 headsets I stuck between. Thanks bro
So what did you get
For real what did you get ool
thank you so much for making this video! I was gonna buy the pulse 3d but you changed my mind.

Suprising outcome. Good review 👌
Thanks 🙏 for reviewing looking at both now

So you eat while gaming? Then your controller is gross too
Idk if this was before an update but sony let's you customize the eq for the 3d pulse on the playstation so maybe give that a try if you haven't because I'd love to know if it made any difference on your opinion
Thanks for this - was wondering what to opt for!
Great video! I was about to get my son the pulse 3D until I saw this video. Thanks for this great comparison.
What, so now ur NEVER gonna get the pulse? damn.
Lol are you a sony salesman? @maxwellflores9160

@@maxwellflores9160 love the name but why do you think it's his loss, I'm wondering because I just got the pulse 3ds
@@maxwellflores9160 alright well thanks man I've been trying to get like an honest review on the pulse 3ds because even before I ordered them last night they all seemed biased or something, I just got the ps5 so I knew I needed a new headset and now I'm just hoping it's pretty good because I have high expectations for the audio but now I really just wanna make sure the microphone sounds good because that's the problem I had with my last one after switching to ps5, it just made my mic that I was using for 2 years sound like shit even tho on the ps4 it sounds perfectly fine, but thanks again man
@@maximushernandez2583 so what’s it like now that you’ve had it for awhile ??
The Astro HDMI adaptor really is an easy way to get the full functionality of the A50s back. I’ve had the adapter for about a week now and it’s great.
Yeh it is, but unfortunately it’s limited to HDMI 2.0, which would be a bottle neck for my 2.1 setup. I’ll have to wait until the new A50s eventually come.
@@SpawnPoiint yes you did say that in the video. My bad. 👍🏾
Whatever audience they're targeting definitely doesn't include me.
haha, it's definitely different mate.
Nice comparison. Love your setup!
Been into Astros for many years now, for me it will always be Astros. I love the comfort and the build quality, never had issues personally.
@infected fairly durable, well built for sure.
I've had all of them basically. Had so many problems with a50s. Just got a40s and it came loose around the right headphone. A20 is the best I think. Same 40 mm drivers. Chat/audio mix....still love astro with all the problems for some reason.
PS5 Headset. Great video! Because of this video, I have chosen to go with the Astro A20’s.
PS5 headset. Nice comparison, this is really great to know. Thanks.
You thought it was horrendous? They are some of the most comfortable things Ive ever worn.
@@maxwellflores9160 Really?? Huh, maybe I just have sensitive ears then. The leather and more circular style didn't mesh well with me. I got the Astro's now, and the foam/more oval shape is far more comfortable for long sessions.
but dont you lose the 3d audio using the A20?
If you want 3D audio for Astro use All audio
I have one too, and it really fits well with the dualsense and ps5s design, I use the third loudest option, its okay, and the 3D audio is amazing. Comfort is okay, but if I have the headset too much in the back, the insides of the earcufs start pushing onto my ears, but its mostly fine. And obviously you cant mute it via a controller cuz it has a physical on/off switch.
Just watched this excellent content
Been spending the last 2 days deciding between these exact headsets and your video popped up. After watching I made an easy decision to get the A20s. Good review my man 💪🏼

You actually can mute the headset with the controller. Tapping the mute button will turn it orange and just mute your mic, but if you hold down the mute button then the orange light will blink softly and you mic will be muted and your audio will be muted too

i'm using a50s on ps5, optical cable plugged in to the tv instead of buying the astro adaptor
How do they sound? I have A50s collecting dust. I also have the platinums and just bought the pulse 3D and so far the plats sound better but still not as good as I would hope.
What is better?? Finaly

I love the fact that the Astro A20 headset is in Astro’s (from PS5 Astro’s Playroom) colorway. (White, Black, Blue)
“PS5 Headset.”
I bought the Pulse 3D. I have it, I use it. It’s ok.
Does the mic sound muffled when you talk and does other peoples voices in chat or party sound lower ? Or is that just me? I even have it in wired wtf
Edit: other peoples voice sound normal when it’s in wired but when your wireless they’re voice is lower overall it’s better wired but for what your paying for the mic should be better when your wireless seriously

Totally agree mate. The A50s are a whole different level.
Great video and great comparison. But please, please peel off the plastic coverings. It's like an itch I can't scratch
hahaha, sorry mate. They were removed after this video if that helps.
PS5 HEADSET, nice video again. Can the USB dongle be connected in the ports at the back of the PS5?
Thanks mate. I guess it can be yes, might interfere with signal if obscured I guess.
I’ve got the steel series Arctis 9 and use USB port at back and it’s fine if that helps
Yes it can go in the back. Mine is and it works fine.
If you hold the mute button down it will mute all audio and microphone coming from the 3D Pulse. Not sure if you'd missed this or if it was a later update added.

@@maxwellflores9160 how good are they?
