Great comparison. I’ve been wondering about this for awhile. I have the pulse and I like the integration, look and how loud the mic is even without the mic extension in my face.
He left out one major plus with the pulse that takes the cake and makes them number 1.. plug the pulse into your ps5 controller and hold down volume up for 15 seconds.. a menu will pop up that allows you to customize the sound 100%. The sound quality these headsets are capable of is insane!
Amazing review, so much so that I'm going out of my way to tell you that. Straight to the point, very detailed, covered everything we needed to know, totally objective and not exagerated in elements of the review (like I've heard many people say the Pulse 3D are incredibly tinny when that's not true at all), covered all sorts of things including pretty niche things I havent seen anywhere else like the shape of the 7p receiver. 10/10 review. Thank you.
I just switched from the Pulse 3D headset to the Arctis 7p. Unfortunately, the Pulse 3D just didn't hold up after being used every day on both my PC (for work) and PS5 since release. I had to replace the ear cuffs, as the fake leather was peeling away from where it was glued to the inside. The head strap began to lose its elasticity, and the plastic frame of the headset itself snapped right where the rubber head band is screwed to the frame, suggesting a structural design flaw. I have to be clear, I wasn't rough with them and took great care to put them away properly after use. All-in-all I wouldn't recommend the Pulse 3D for daily prolonged use.
@@Clay44444 Personally I haven't noticed my ears getting particularly hot. I will say they are the softest ear cups I've ever worn, hands down. That may affect people differently on a case-by-case basis, though. As for the mic quality, it's perfectly "clear", but it does sound heavily processed. So IMO the quality is "low", but no one should have trouble understanding you. So if you're looking for pure sound quality compared to a studio mic, I'd say no in that regard. I've also noticed that you need to be careful tuning the EQ. The settings are saved to the headset itself, so will carry over to any other device after setting and saving it on a PC. That being said, certain settings will cause distortion. That can be mitigated by reducing in-game volume where applicable and increasing the headset volume itself.
Best comment so far. Your feedback is spot on. I've owned various Sony gaming headsets and the biggest let down is durability. They break easy and I'm a careful person. My latest one has snapped on the headband. Battery life is also poor. The leather is fake. My ears get get covered in black flakey bits. I done with Sony headsets. They do produce good sound though.

Great review! Seems like the Pulse 3D headphones sound a lot more natural. The 7ps seem to be doing a lot more processing to remove external noise, but it's a bit aggressive sounding which I think makes the mic sound somewhat tinny and artificial. Similar to how audio sounds in FCPX if you crank the "noise removal" up too much. Thanks for the review 🙏🏽
excellent review! While I'd go with your suggestion, the Sony Pulse headphones are $150 in Australia, versus the Arctis 7p's at over $300. I feel the hefty double pricetag isn't worth it since your review showed they were both quite good, with the major difference that i can tell is the battery life.

@@pedro_ferreirinha Yes, I would say it could be a little louder but I have a quiet home so it gets the job done. The best feature is the way it integrates with the PS5 UI.
I have both, and I prefer the Pulse 3D over the Arctis 7P. They sound about the same, but Pulse's is bit better (I hear sounds more clearly in games like Rainbow Six and Warzone), and they are much more integrated in system, as you can mix the party / game mix directly on the headset and see the volume / battery level in the UI. On the other hand the Arctis are waaay more confortable and the battery lasts much longer. The microphone also sound surprisingly the same, considering is integrated on the Pulse (which is more confortable and looks better). To me, considering also the difference in price, Pulse 3D are a better headset overall for PS5.
Same here i turned the 3d back for Turtlebeach 600 g2 i regret it and now i will buy them again…. The mic from 3D sucks but sound quallity for warzone is very good and the footsteps are very clear the 3D audio work very well only for 3D pulse on ps5 and i tested many headsets.
Matthew, I am not one to usually comment or take many reviews very seriously. This was balanced, clear, and easy to listen to. Thank you for the well spoken and clear explanation that reinforced my initial thoughts. Thank you for such a great review. I feel much better about my purchases now.
I’ve been using the Steelseries arctis 7p now for 2 years with my PS5. It’s beautiful, clear and spatial… the battery life is incredible and the comfort for glasses wearing individuals is amazing, but that’s it. The Arctis 7p is not an all around headset for games, multimedia and movies, it’s for games. Even after updating the firmware and choosing a great preset, the bass is so underwhelming it’s flat. I was very misinformed by Pulse 3d and arctis 7p reviews. Everyone favors the 7p and even says the mic is better. I just reluctantly bought the all black pulse 3d tonight from Best Buy (Saturday 12/10/22) and 2 hours with it, it’s simply beautiful. The standard sound preset on the eq beats the arctis 7p beautifully and the bass I was missing and wanting in the 7p is available automatically on the bass boost preset in the eq setting on the ps5. I don’t base my gaming headsets anymore on gaming spatial sound or quality, I now base it on… is it capable and worthy of watching Blu-ray and UHD Blu-ray movies and sound good across the spectrum without dropping or bottoming out. The arctis 7p cannot keep up, the pulse 3d just blew my mind and for $50 less. The arctis 7p is gorgeous, but it’s not even close to the performance of the pulse 3d. The microphone clarity blew my friends away and hearing them was so crystal clear. The arctis 7p is always trying to keep up in chat. I underestimated the pulse 3d based on so many articles and RUclips channels. If you have the arctis 7p, go to best buy, by the Pulse 3d, use it for one night. If you don’t like it you can return it no questions asked for 1 month. I expected to return the pulse 3d but again, it way overshot any expectations I could have ever had for it. Arctis 7p, I love you, but I’m selling you now.
The wired Pulse 3Ds are the EXACT mic quality I was hoping for. I’m not really into the whole wireless thing when it comes to gaming headsets and this shows exact why 5:55
I want to buy pulse 3d but i am not sure if i will have 3d audio if used wired with my Controller. I want to use it wired. Can you please explain this to me because what i read in net about this is pretty mixed. Sorry my english 😀
I have a Blue Yeti that I plug into my PS5 & either the sound is off or I just hate my own voice. I wanted to add a gaming headset (with a good mic). Your review might just have helped. Is it me or did the Sony headset connected to the controller sound the best (& the cleanest)? Peace & love ❤
I haven't tried the original Arctis 7's but I've heard they're almost identical with the only difference being the 7's have a USB-A dongle instead of USB-C and the 7's also have a game/chat slider which work on PC but not PS5.
I bought both I have to say that the 7p + is far superior. I couldn’t wear the pulse 1 hour without becoming uncomfortable. The 7p+ is soooo comfortable. As far as sound quality the EQ is more customizable on the 7p+ and I feel they have the slight edge. Build quality is hugely better in the 7p+ they have a steal band and feel less cheap. The ear cups are way more comfortable and are fabric instead of pleather so they won’t peal. If your on the fence BUY the 7p+ everything is better.
@@maddog3467 that’s true it only has controls for volume and to hear yourself which kinda sucks. But the comfort is amazing I wouldn’t go back to the Sonys for that feature.
I have the Astro A50 but the ps5 is missing an optical port so I plugged them into the tv at the cost of microphone and native 3D sound. I am thinking about getting 1 of these 2 headsets for vr gaming and it seems like the p7 are way more comfy and even usable on other platforms. That’s why I‘ll probably pick up one of those since I might buy a quest 3 later this year. But first I have to test my beautiful A50 on the psvr2. 😁
Since it’s technically RF (radio frequency) the higher the transceiver (dongle) the further the range will be. Just picture a triangle coming out of the bottom, and the higher the top of the triangle is (the dongle) the wider the base of the triangle will be. Same with all radio waves.
In case you were wondering, DualSense has a RealTek audio chip like the ones on PC motherboards, explains the quality. Your review is very extensive and informative, overall sound quality IGN said both are on par. I'm happy with Pulse 3D but would jump into the next one with 50mm drivers, PS Platinum successor.
I just returned my pulse 3D. The build quality is very cheap and the ear cuffs aren’t comfortable at all IMO. Also had issues of ppl in my party saying they couldn’t hear what I was saying. Spend the extra money for the arctis 7
Thanks for the detailed review! I went through three sets of the Gold Wireless headsets before due to poor build quality, and I'm going to try the SS set thanks to you. The mic test was very helpful, too!
Snap. I've had a few different Sony gaming headsets and the build quality let's it down. The plastic headbands are weak and the ear muffs flake. Imgoing for SS next time. Shame as I like the sound on the Sony ones.
Great review.. This would probably convince me more to get the Pulse 3d over the Arctis 7p. The extra 50 bucks is not worth it, at least for me. I hate that the arctis 7p still uses that long mouthpiece / mic. This should be a thing in the past now, and i understand why they'd go for this. Probably to have a better audio quality when using in chat but as seen in this video, looks like the Pulse 3d had a better audio quality even without that long mouthpiece. The ease of access in automatically bringing back your previous audio settings once you turn off your Pulse 3d is also a small feature that would likely push me to get this over the Arctis.
I heard they’re really uncomfortable and being a gaming headset it’s definitely a problem if they hurt after a couple hours or so. So I decided to get the Steel Series Nova 7P which is newer but I got on sale for like $155
@@Jxvvimm like for example when I use my astros I can hear my voice when I speak on the headset,,,,,, is it’s the same on steel series ??? Or are the garbage ?

@@concretenyc6826 it sucks but why is the lack USB C charging a deal breaker? I mean using one cable is great but chances are you're not traveling with the headset.
Lol the mic sounds like trash
Great comparison video! 👍
🙏
good review do you know how the Arctis 7ps compare with the normal Arctis 7s?
I haven't tried the original Arctis 7's but I've heard they're almost identical with the only difference being the 7's have a USB-A dongle instead of USB-C and the 7's also have a game/chat slider which work on PC but not PS5.
@@MatthewMora cool thanks
@@valhallaoutcast you don´t really need that you can mix your game/chat in the ps5
I have relatively big ears and wear glasses... kinda leaning towards the 7P
the 7p is a better headset trust i have the arctis pro for pc and steel series have the best headsets
What is all the complaint about the mic quality? When using the cable, the quality is perfect. Wireless is barely usable though. 5:23
Subbed because of the no nonsense approach. Great job man!
Great review, the mic tests were really helpful!
Not worth the price if you can't manage game and party chat independently on the head set.
@@maddog3467 that’s true it only has controls for volume and to hear yourself which kinda sucks. But the comfort is amazing I wouldn’t go back to the Sonys for that feature.
@@maddog3467 Yeah that was the deciding factor for me, you have to turn chat down sometimes to hear those footsteps better.
3D pulse has bad sound quality
The pluse 3ds is not even a option for me because you can't mute with the controller
This man deserves more subs
Just looked up (in Australia )
$159-pulse 3D
$350-7P steel series
Not 50 bucks more but double that’s crazy
Great review! Definitely helped me in my choice, I went with the pulse 3d. Thanks again!
How ur 3d pulse bro? Are they good ?
Excellent review. Much better than the people who have just been trying to slap content out.
Great video. I’m definitely considering buying the pulse 3D headset hopefully today 🔥
Loved your review bro! Can’t wait for future reviews!
Love the review. Only review I’ve found that gets straight to the point!
Is that why the mic-quality is so different with wired vs. wireless? Sounds like a pilot when wireless, much more natural when wired.
@@siggenx Could be. The vibration in DualSense is sound-based, that's its main job.
Waiting on my 7p to arrive. Great video!
Straight up been asked why mic quality so shit, thanks so much man, hasn’t really been mentioned but you smashed it!!!
I just realized the pulse 3D’s mic on wire mode are better than artic 7P wire mode on the ps5
The pulse 3d mic is good and fine, why everybody say its bad? I might get one now but its out of stock everywhere
I just returned my pulse 3D. The build quality is very cheap and the ear cuffs aren’t comfortable at all IMO. Also had issues of ppl in my party saying they couldn’t hear what I was saying. Spend the extra money for the arctis 7
@@iiNeVeRCluTcH ive had the same problem with mic too. the audios amazing but the mics terrible
@@iiNeVeRCluTcH Is The Arctis 7 good?
@@iiNeVeRCluTcH the sound is amazing in cold war, hear foot step from miles away and coming to you. The only downside is its a bit uncomfortable
I don't understand the downgrade in audio quality when plugged in.
I actually thought it sound better plugged in.
@@Mistah_J_786 same
5:50 5:59 don’t mind just need this
I love the minimalist design of my Pulse headset.
Facts
I love the minimalist look too only reason I’m going with the 7p is for comfort
I have nothing and Sony is more comfortable for me. So it depends...
Anyone know if the game/chat volume not being on the 7p is actually a game changer?
You just change the chat volume in game homie and I mean I have never had to adjust it so wasn’t for me and the 7p definitely better had them both
Great review..
So I decided to get the Steel Series Nova 7P which is newer but I got on sale for like $155
amazing review bro, extensive and to the point. you are really good at this
When gaming in a voice party, which headset microphone do your friends preferto hear?
They say my voice sounds cleaner on the 7p's
@@MatthewMora thanks 👊
Just got the 7p for ps5 and I love them, the mic monitoring is top tier to hear your own voice
Does it have the amp voice ??
@@mylifeisamoviee what do you mean by that?
@@Jxvvimm like for example when I use my astros I can hear my voice when I speak on the headset,,,,,, is it’s the same on steel series ??? Or are the garbage ?
@@mylifeisamoviee you can hear your own voice but its not a echo coming from a party or something its a live mic monitoring, you can turn it off if you want, but it sounds very clear and theres no lag or delay, its like being in a studio with a mic and headphones and hearing your own voice so you know how loud you are to everyone in the chat
Gonna try the steel series. What I see no one talking about is the build quality of the pulse 3d. I've had them for about a year now and they are cracking on both sides where the earcups connect to the plastic band thing. Been getting ps headsets for years and they all break the same way. Very disappointed with Sony
Unfortunately, many companiesmake headsets designed to break or malfunction after a years use(Turtle Beach, Sony, etc.) Of course, they want to dip in our pockets for the next latest and greatest. Although there are those few companies that make a solid headset built to last. Steel series seems to be one of them.
Any idea if either of these headsets are an Improvement over the turtle beach PX4 headset?
I have the 7p’s for the ps5 and the 9x for the series X and they are amazing!
Does your voice sound like it cracks with higher pitches on the 7p’s? You got any captures using the mic during gameplay that I can listen to? Thanks for your help
@@darthdeezy I don’t have any captured. Try updating them. I haven’t had any problems.
@@Gamerlife-be9ox I don’t have them, they get delivered tomorrow. But noticed some small cracks in some reviewers videos that had me wondering. Not all of them though. Could just be RUclips compression effects. Someone on TikTok had a video and it sounded good. Looking forward to try them myself tomorrow. Thank you 🙏🏼
@@darthdeezy I love mine.
I own both but I oddly enjoy using the pulse 3D more. Only issue with it IMO is the battery life.
Which one is better for Cod and footsteps?
@@pedro_ferreirinha bruh COD is hot trash, give battlefield a try. Once I switched I never looked back
As a videographer myself, the visuals are elite. Your definitely slept on
THANK YOU i have been looking for a comparation with these 2 headsets!
Glad I could help! Which one are you leaning towards?
@@MatthewMora pulse 3D headset
You deserve so much more for the quality of videos you make 🤦🏽♂️
Do you play multiplayer games with friends and find lack of party chat/game mixing a big deal?
That and the UsbC charging made my mind up. Ordered the 3Ds
I used to think this was a big deal. But I hardly ever used it on my Astro A50s.
I missed it initially but got used to going through the PS5 menu. Now that I think about it, I've set once and haven't had to touch it since.
@@concretenyc6826 it sucks but why is the lack USB C charging a deal breaker? I mean using one cable is great but chances are you're not traveling with the headset. You could easily just keep the included cable plugged into back of console or just plug it in where you'd normally charge your phone or something. Battery life is supposed to be good so just charge when necessary. They technically even make micro to usb c adapters although I realize that's another $5 or so.
@@davyjones2032 the USBC charges a lot faster and isn’t as flimsy as a mini usb. Also it’s future proofing. Most companies have already stopped using mini usb and moved on to usbc.
Yup I ended up returning my PS Pulse 3D headset and got the Steel Series Arctic’s 7p. They’re very comfortable and worth the extra 50 bucks.
Are they 50$ more comfortable tho?
@@saucyx4 yes. They also pick up less surrounding noise than the Pulse. They also last longer.
@@A.Malkosh honestly comfort is at the top of my list so I’ll drop an extra 50 for something that’ll last me some years
Dude, thank you for this review. All business, no fluff, and you covered everything I needed answered. Thumbs up!
Awesome video! Question, does your Arctic 7P side tone not work when you have it wired to your controller? My doesn’t work when mine is wired that’s why, and I can’t seem to find anyone else with this problem...
Thanks! Just tested this out and my side tone doesn't work when plugged into the controller either. It must be by design or we both have faulty headsets lol
@@MatthewMora Thanks for the reply and checking it out! That'd be bad if we both have faulty ones lol
Includes the cost in CAD? immediate thumbs up lol this was a solid af review.
I found this to be very informative thanks for the info!
i just don’t like the blue on the arctis. should i’ve kept it black
Anyone got a link for the adapter needed for the ps5?
was ur plug far spaced apart too?
Awesome video man!
This is by far the most in depth review I've found on either of these headsets and has really helped me in my decision. Keep up the good work, I think your channel is going to be a massive hit as it grows.
Awesome video i think about going with the steelseries
Great choice, try the different presets for different games.
Will the normal arctis seven work with the 3D audio?
