Seven's nastiest moment, and probably the darkest moment of any of the Doctors. This was a great scene. Really shows what McCoy and Aldred were capable of - another reason why I was so sorry that the original series ended so soon after this.
It maybe one of his nastiest moments on television; but on audio it barely touches his scheming nature. It’s a shame we didn’t get his true colours on tv due to the show’s cancellation. Then again, we have the audios for that.
Luckily the VNA books and many Big Finish audios continue these character themes.

Now THAT is a great plot twist.
And also one of the darkest moments of any Doctor in the series.
This scene still stands as one of the most powerful scenes for both Ace and Seven in their entire run. Doctor Who at its best.

Ace is the companion who made you feel brave. She’s so stunning in this scene as is the way her faith in the doctor is portrayed

Wouldn’t even be the last time he broke Ace. In the novel Love and War he finally pushed Ace past her breaking point. Big Finish did a pretty good version. @@isaacc7 Love and War is a classic moment in Doctor Who and a huge moment in Ace's life where she leaves the Doctor and then returns as a Ripley type Dalek killer to bad they didn't adapt Deceit to explain her reunion with the Doctor and Benny (who were a great team by the way!)

@@ftumschk That was a brilliant manipulation of human psychology. Sometimes when a person is in a survival situation, sheer rage can be the driving force that inspires them to find a way out of their predicament. The Doctor knew that when he made Sarah Jane want to kick his ass so badly that she pulled herself through the service duct after she first thought she would never get unstuck. Her desire to strangle the Doctor overcame her initial despair. (Not to mention the adrenaline boost her anger gave her.)
7 could be almost evil at times. He’s comes across as quiet, unassuming and bumbling but he was dark. Always in total control, cool as a cucumber.

The Blu Ray Boxset for this story alone is worth every penny spent - even just for the extras. Everything about this story from script, costume and performances is WHO at its best. Not one performance is at fault or outdone. Though I was transfixed by Commander Millington - Alfred Lynch, I wish we saw more from him. JUDSON: The machine can do it, .... This is the first. In the future there'll be many more computing machines, thinking machines.

This reminds me of the scene in The God Complex when the Doctor had to rid Amy of her faith in him by saying he can't save her and convincing her he's responsible for stealing her childhood and leading her to her death.

6 months ago I met Sophie at Elsecar comic con, she's 60 now but she's still gorgeous.
This is the absolute best of classic Who. I can’t praise it enough. So sad the show was cancelled after this series because it was really coming into its own.

This might sound a bit gun - ho but it is nice to watch this knowing that it meant that the Viking raiders had their revenge on Fenric in the end. The ancient Haemovore was their final descendant.

Season 27 should have happened
Curse of Fenric is still my No.1 DW story, but I wouldn't recommend it as first-time viewing -- because it works best if you've been following 7+Ace throughout S25+S26. Having said that, it's 100 minutes of creepy Lovecraftian horror, and the backdrop of WW2 is always a favourite of mine. Great performances, excellent one-off monsters, an impressive body count, fantastic side characters, viking curses, code-cracking, and plenty of memorable moments. The final moments of episode 3 are deliciously spine-chilling
7th is simply a Malipulant chessmaster.
He knew how to plan the move.
It's like the Timeless Child twist but done well/doesn't change the series' continuity.
Doctor Who barely has a continuity, even before The Timeless Children. There’s been a ton of heavy contradiction for decades in the lore.

I was very young when my country's aired reruns of the seventh doctor's adventures in the run up to the TV movie. I couldn't have been more than 2 or 3 when I first saw the adventures of the Seventh Doctor and Ace. I don't remember much, but I did remember when the Doctor "turned evil". My English wasn't very good at the time, so I didn't really understand what's happening, but did understand "kill her", and I remembered being horrified because I thought the Doctor has turned bad. I'm still not sure if this is the scene I remembered, but this must have been it. I remembered how much I liked the Doctor, and how much of a role model he was to me. The fact that he was not a physical or violent hero spoke to me. He's the reason why Prof X was my favourite X-Men, and not Wolverine like most of my friends, and he's probably the reason why I studied Mathematics and hope to become a Doctor or Professor one day

@@MidnightChimeyIf that's the one with 11, Amy, and the Minotaur, I believe the door has the number "7" on it - likely referencing that it's the same overall gist as what 7 does to Ace, even though this one is certainly nastier.

I can't think of a dark moment in New Who that compares to this one. It is literally The Doctor destroying a companion's faith.

People tend to complain about Mcoy's run saying it was bad. Scenes like this shows it was a hell of alot better then Whitiker's run I couldn't even make it through her second season
I'd also add that this story (as well as S26) is honestly better than most of Classic Who. Even peak Tom Baker doesn't compare.
I'll admit I haven't seen much of Mcoy's run I just know it's reputation probably earned by him being the last Doctor before it's first cancellation and stories like Ghostlight, I think that's what it was called, that were so bad the actors themselves have said they had no idea what whas going on.
@@GrimmShadowsII Ghost Light is one of the best serials of all time. But it is also the most confusing. It was written as a four parter and was cut down to a three parter, leading to a lot of exposition being lost. You basically have to deduce what is going on all on your own, without the episodes actually telling you. It helps a lot to watch the thing two times in a row or to watch the extras before actually watching the episode.

You could make a strong argument that those last two seasons were the best seasons since Hinchcliffe's time.
And you should because bar Silver Nemesis, those 8 stories are all brilliant even if Ghost Light is a little confusing.
In the time before CGI, when writing and acting were still paramount.
the 80s is when cgi was taking over everything. i think you have your decades mixed up
Building on what @AtlasSolid said well, kind of any way, CGI was around back then you only have to look at the intro for Doctor Who back then to see an example of CGI in fact it was the first fully CGI title sequence in the world. Yes it was awful by today's standards but it was CGI none the less and considered ground breaking at the time. Not bad for a show with a really tight budget.
Also just to be clear I like the CGI titles just because they haven't aged well doesn't mean what they did is lost. I love what they did with them. It's just that they can do it so much better these days and some one has a man by the name of David Burgess recreated them and if you haven't seen it I'd recommend you search for it just search for either David Burgess or 7th Doctor intro remake and you should find it.

@@rjmcallister1888 Yeah I see your point and get your meaning. Just the way your initial post read it seemed like you ment there was no CGI whatsoever. But now I get what you mean by no CGI. None of the type of CGI we see today in that case I understand where you're coming from now, they certainly didn't have CGI in that form just pure acting and practical effects which I appreciate more if I'm honest. It may not look as good as CGI can but the effort alone gets my praise.

She's last seen in a fan film from 2019 on Dr who velocity. Yes its actually Sophie Aldren actually playing Ace.

No. Don't compare it to that crap.
I know this is two years old but this is sentiment that I’ve seen some of tue community hold now. The idea that the 7th doctor is not the last Classic doctor but is more similar to the modern doctors and in fact I believe that RTD likely took a lot of inspiration from this era when crafting his incarnations who would have their inner darkness more pronounced.
Right. Well I had heard of Ace and remembered her from another programme so when this popped up I thought why not that looks interesting.
Out of context. This clips contains multi faceted levels of abusive. With absolutely no warning.
And not everybody who watches these videos has access to the context. Because doctor who has been going on for nearly 60 years.
Not everybody knows every single story line.
So you either need to warn people, explain at the end what actually ended up happening. Or you need to seriously consider the impact that uploading a video like this can have.
Caroline This story is WHO at its best, if you have not seen it then please do as you will not be disappointed. However, you are correct. They have cut this uploaded scene too short, had they let the scene conclude it would of included the context it requires (literally 30 seconds more) . It has a very poignant conclusion

As far as I'm concerned, The Curse of Fenric score is excellent.
Love the score -- especially "Exit Miss Hardakter / The Vicar and the Vampires". If you listen closely enough, it sounds like there are creepy whispers on the wind (as the Haemovores stalk the Reverend), the faint church bells ringing sends shivers. You can say it's "Dated", but "Awful" I will never agree with.
I hope she dies quickly. It is totally boring the new series with the female version. I loved all parts of Doctor Who, but that was a bust... 😭😭
