This is my favourite speech ever from Doctor Who. It is such a sum up of why he questions the fundamentals of being a good man. It's a culmination of all the fighting he's done, an acceptance of what he did as the War Doctor and what he was gonna do as the War Doctor. It's so powerful and moving about the reality of war and the nature of humanity in general. I cry every time
This! Is not a war! I fought in a bigger war,.. than you will ever know, I did worse things, than you can ever imagine, AND WHEN I CLOSE MY EYES!!! I HEAR MORE SCREAMS, THAN ANYONE WOULD EVER BE ABLE TO COUNT! And do you know what to do with that pain? Shall I tell you where to put it?! You hold it tight!!! Til it burns your hand! And you say this: Noone else, will ever, have to live like this, noone else will ever have to feel, this pain!! Not on my watch!!! (Commas placed as breathing pauses rather than grammatical sense I also wanted to stop earlier, but I just couldn't...)
I'm only familiar with New Who I apologize but for me 9- "Just this once, everybody lives!" From The Doctor Dances, you hit it right on the nail 10- The "I could be so much more" speech from The End of Time Part 2. I feel like this monologue and the whole scene really do a great job of summarizing the 10th Doctor's character arc and is really one of the most beautiful moments of the show. 11- "Hello, I'm the Doctor." From the Eleventh Hour. No Doctor could ever reassure me so quickly that my time is not being wasted with this newest regeneration. Under an hour to save the world with no screwdriver and no TARDIS and no plan and yet he manages to do it all while changing into his new suit, easily one of my favorite episodes. 12- "This is a scale of *war*!" From the Zygon Inversion and "I what I do because it's RIGHT, and decent, and because above all else it is kind." From The Doctor Falls. These two monologues especially the first one helped tie Capaldi with Tennent for my favorite Doctor, they're incredibly powerful and do a great job of showing why the Doctor exists.
1. Birth of a sun (The Edge Of Destruction speech) 2. Welcome to the tardis ! (The Enemy Of The World Ending) 3. Jo, you've got all the time in the world and the space. I'm offering them to you. (The Green Death) 4. There is no point in being grown up if you can't be childish sometimes (Robot) 5. I just feel as though you've just killed an old friend” (The Visitation) 6. It doesnt Matter to whom the cruelty is directed, the cruelty itself is wrong (The Holy Terror) 7. Infinite Rise Pudding (Remembrance Of The Daleks) 8. The ultimate Timelord fashion Accessoire (Scherzo) 9. Street corner, two in the morning, getting a taxi home. I’ve never had a life like that. (Father's Day) 10. Why would I give her my screwdriver? Why would I do that ? Oooooh I'm very good. Saved her (Silence In the Library/Forest Of The Dead Ending) 11. The doctor will see you now ! (The Eleventh Hour) 12. The Man That Stops The Monsters (Flatline) 13. I promise, you and I will be friends Forever. (It Takes You Away Frog)
1. Either The War Machines when he stands unflinching in front of it finishing his arc from reluctant runaway to full on hero or Speech in the Massacre when he comes to term with what his new life is going to mean for the first time 2. Standing before the Time Lords justifying what he has done. The Doctor has finally grown into a man who will never turn his back on those in need and he is proud of what he has learnt 3. The Doctor facing his fear of the Great One 4. His moral argument with Davros in Genesis 5. Either getting the Bats Milk for Peri in Androzani or that moment in Planet of Fire where he watches unflinching as the Master burns alive finally having enough of the universes shit 6. Unfortunately not many big moments. Just denouncing the time lords in Trial of a Time Lord 7. Tricking Davros into destroying Skaro. Not the most dramatic moment but definitely the one that shows him as a man you don't want to piss off 8. Deciding to join the Time War, he doesn't have many moments but this felt like the end of a long arc where he keeps running from the inevitable and finally accepts it War: Finally making his decision to destroy Galifrey. That was his moment and honestly shouldn't have been changed 9. Everybody lives and the Delta Wave. One his best day in a long time and you can just see that for the first time he has truly become the Doctor again, the other his worst nightmare, the moment all over again coming to haunt him 10. Sacrificing himself for Wilf, letting go of his arrogant self importance and simply recognising the value in the life of an old, insignificant man 11. The Doctor threatening Colonel Manton and that Power of Three scene with Amy, really shows how much he values the short time he has with each companion 12. Breaking the Wall and Without Rewards. Both show the Doctor's true selflessness and care for those he loves. 13. I've despised her but there is one scene where I felt like the Doctor shined through. Just for a moment. Her speech about love on the wedding in Punjab
If it fits here, I'd like to share my favourite scenes for each Doctor. 1: Probably would have to be Susan's departure. You can see how much it hurt to say his first goodbye. 2: The War Games when the Time Lords betray him. You can see the look of "Excuse me?" 3: The sword fight with the Master. It shows off one of his many talents he squires in his adventures. 4: Have I the right? It shows that he has to compete with himself in terms of morality. 5: Adric's death. It was the start of a trend. A very sad trend that will follow the Doctor for several lifetimes. 6: When he tries to kill Peri. It shows the repercussions of regeneration, the new mind settling into place. 7: Mocking Davros. He knows how unimportant power is, so he finds it a joking matter that Davros wants to use the Hand of Omega for selfish reasons. 8: When he's running about and letting his heart out to Grace about the universe. It shows how much he cares and how much fun he has on his adventures. 9: When he's in the restaurant with Blon Fel Fotch. It's just the epitome of an Uno reverse card. Three different attempts on his life, and he just says "Nope." 10: His cracks beginning to show in Waters of Mars. Travelling alone would make him terribly lonely, sad, desperate, and terrifying. 11: Amy and Rory saying goodbye. Matt's Doctor didn't have as many emotional bits, so to see him crumble like he did hits right at home. 12: Lecturing the Zygons about what a real war is. It shows how he still hasn't let go of his grief. And that no matter what the problem, he will understand. 13: I don't have a favorite yet. She hasn't had enough time to shine, IMO.
So glad you mentioned Lies in Ruins. Such a beautiful and heartbreaking story for McGann, the companion is tragic, and River and Bernice are the perfect characters to showcase just how different the Doctor was acting as he got closer and closer to the end of his Eighth incarnation.
Can I just say?: I just LOVE Paul McGann!! Can't get enough of him, every time he's on screen, I wanna see more. He's not my favourite Doctor, by any means, but even with my favourite Doctors, I don't have quite such a strong feeling as with McGann...
I think Matt Smith might be my favourite doctor (been considering for a long time haha) excellent choice for his defining moment. I’ll never get over the scene with him walking into battle alongside the silence.. amazing
Although the video is called every doctors defining moments, it doesn't include the war doctor played by the late sir John hurt. Who is also the oldest guy to date to play the doctor, by more than 10 years I might add.
Peter Capaldi’s should of been the “where I stand” speech as it defines what all he stands for. Although the defining moments should be in there first series-second not really the last but I completely agree with the Matt Smith one, excellent choices yet all very sad.
“A character arc should be fully concluded as soon as possible.” Also the regen speech is a lot more specific to actor & showrunner than that fairly routine speech.
DAVIS true as it does base of what children think the doctor is and what he/she stands for. Although again I say the “where I stand speech” as right after the master immediately shuts him down which for me it degrades the speech but at the same time it gives it higher power. But I agree with his final speech, “Always try to be nice, but never fail to be kind.” A great line that shows everything that the doctors did over their lives and then right after with the run fast defines everything about them
DAVIS also with the character ark ending, rivers final moments(well technically her first moments) with her speech in the library really defines everything that we were to see of her but we didn’t realise how important this was until that final moment in Darillium in “the husbands of river song”
My top 4 Doctors defining moments 4 - Do I have the right ? in "Genesis of the Daleks" 5 - saving peri in "Caves of Andrazani" 6 - "Trial of a Timelord" speech 7- manipulating Ace in "Curse of Fenric" / speech in "Happiness Patrol"
For Matt Smiths doctor i cant decide between two moments when he is talking to the angels and he says if your smart if you value your life there is one thing you never put in a trap, and whats that doctor? Me. Orrrr when hes talking to the soul eating monster on the rings of Akhatan and he is just shutting him down.
Nine: "Have a fantastic life." Ten: Punishing the Family of Blood Eleven: Confronting the Sun God Twelve: The Zygon Inversion speech Thirteen: "I'm the Doctor. Sorting out fair play throughout the universe. Now please get off this planet while you still have a choice."
MY OWN NUMBERED LABELING OF THE BODY FORMS OF (THE DOCTOR) FROM (DOCTOR WHO) SHOW: Now the First Season of (DOCTOR WHO) of the character (The Doctor) played by actor (Christopher Eccleston) is body form number ten, and the body form of (The Doctor) played by actor (David Tennant) in the seasons of 2-4 is labeled as number eleven, and to add labeled as 11& a half as well because of what happened to (The Doctor) in one of the Seasons of (DOCTOR WHO) be it in that of Season Three, or in Season Four. An the body form of (The Doctor) played by actor (Matt Smith) I would label that number twelve, the body form of (The Doctor) played by actor (Peter Capaldi) I label that number thirteen, and the body form of (The Doctor) played by actress (Jodie Whittaker) labeled as number fourteen that is in Season Eleven & Season Twelve of (DOCTOR WHO) show series.
I’ll be honest for eleven I think the speech from the rings of akahaten was better because it finally shows the doctor coming to terms with the loss of Amy and Rory, the time war and all the things he saw and did
Ethan Hudson he's good and I love him for the pain and suffering he's put me through. But he's the reason why I can't physically kill off my characters when I write. I'm talking about moffat. But I also love Davies too.
+Edwin Andrade RTD wrote about 30 DW serials & not a single one made it into the top 10 DW serials of all time, making him the worst writer to ever contribute to the show in its entire history. How can you miss him, when he set the tone & direction of the show, which unfortunately his successors have continued loyally?
+Andy Young Most of the "speeches" he wrote sounded like they'd been improvised by a child. I put "speeches" in quotes because most of these so-called speeches are just rants where he is telling someone off Jeremy Kyle style.
"Personally... I think that's one hell of a bird" for 12, imho Speaking from a space where I know a lot of people with PTSD, depression, and have done grief counselling... That's the spirit that breaks through. Eternity can go hang. Just keep pecking.
That's my favourite Capaldi episode and one of my favourite episodes of all time. The speech as he's breaking out of the confession dial using only his bare hands against the hardest substance in the universe just gives you the feeling that nothing can stop The Doctor.
1- Susan's departure (Dalek Invasion of Earth) 2- the sit down with Victoria (Tomb of the Cybermen) 3- Jo's departure (The Green Death) 4- the conversation with Davros (Genesis of the Daleks) 5- Crash landing (Caves of Androzani) 6- Peri's death (Trial of a timelord-Mindwarp) 7- The last 10 minutes (Remembrance of the Daleks) 8- Regeneration (Night of the Doctor) 9- Everybody lives (Empty child/the Doctor Dances) 10- Timelord Victorious (Waters of Mars) 11- Vincent at the art gallery (Vincent and the Doctor) 12- Breaking the wall (Heaven sent) 13- confrontation with the frog (It Takes You Away)
Augie-A agree with everything except I would replace 10 with the voyage of the damned speech, 11 with the pandorica speech, 12 with the zygomatic inversion speech
@@puretoast5625 Honestly, Voyage of the Damned speech is overrated. Its just the Doctor saying he's the Doctor in a really boastful heavy handed way, it doesn't show anything new about the character or show us anything new. Timelord victorious however showed us what can happen to the Doctor when he's alone too long. I'd replace it with Lived too long though. Pandorica Speech. Same again. Just the Doctor being boastful. Cool to listen to but gives us nothing character wise. Vincent and the Art Gallery showed how the Doctor cares about those little seemingly insignificant moments. The Zygon Speech I would agree with you if Breaking the Wall wasn't such a big character moment that shows just how far the Doctor will go for the sake of those he loves.
Coming from a NewWho fan, I actually agree with all of yours 9 Past. Heaven Sent is, IMO without debate, Capaldi's best, while Waters of Mars really defines the character arc Tennant was going for during his time.
El Limon I can get why you chose the voyage of the damned speech, as it is a good I'm the doctor monologue. But, timelord victorious showed the darkest side of the doctor. Seeing Tennant go this dark is even scarier than the Monster in that episode, the flood. Which says something. The Pandorica speech is good too, but the Vincent gallery scene is an absolute emotional masterpiece, and the Zygon speech is great on its own, but doesn't work in the story.
My Defining moments: 1) “one day I shall come back” (Dalek invasion of earth) 2) “we are the only ones in the universe who can do what we’re doing” (Tomb of the Cybermen) 3) “a tear? Sarah Jane?” (Planet of the spiders) 4) “what’s the point of being a grown up if you can’t be childish every once in a while” (Robot) 5) Saving Perry without hesitation (the Caves of Androzani) 6) [Big finish’s regeneration arc] 7) Convincing a dalek to kill itself (remembrance of the Daleks) 8) “will it hurt?” “Yes.” “Good” (Night of the Doctor) War) “Great men are forged in fire, it is the privilege of lesser men to light the flame” (Day of the Doctor) 9) “why don’t you just die” (Dalek) 10) “He was being kind” (the family of blood) 11) “One thing you don’t put in a trap” (Time of angels) 12) The man who stops the monsters (flatline) /I do what I do because it’s right, because it’s decent and above all else, it’s kind. (The doctor falls) 13) The wedding scene (demons of punjab) [you’ve convinced me]
While I agree that those are some of 12's defining moments, I'd say his most defining was the breaking the wall speech ('That's one hell of a bird!') from Heaven Sent which is one of, if not my favourite episode.
I feel like not enough people talk about just how hard the "The fury of the Time Lord" scene/speech hits. It's one of my favorite... scenes? Speeches? in the show. I just absolutely love how it shows the darker side of 10 which later becomes a pretty big deal by the end of The Waters of Mars. Absolutely love it, gives me chills every time.
Can we just all agree, that we cringe so hard that the 13th Doctor's First-Words, weren't: 'Still Not Ginger?' Oh, and in Death In Heaven, when Cyberbrig shot Missy, he should have said: 'Nice to see you, Again!' Like in The Five Doctors. Such a Shame; Missed Opportunities. Hey, if anyone's interested, I'm reviewing all the Doctor Who stories on my channel, with me just having upload my review of: 'Carnival Of Monsters (1973)!' No pressure, of-course; Just if you're interested! :) #MemeCoppa! We did it to Sonic; We can do it, Again! P.S. Why can't we move to Dailymotion?
I feel that Matt smiths defining moment was the “Rings of Akhatan” speech where he stated all parts of his life including the classical series and after the loss of Amy and Rory it really sparked up and showed who he really was. Like “No one else, JUST ME!” Matt Smiths final moment was legendary and It hit me so hard I left the show until 2017, that was a terrible mistake as despite I missed Matt Smith peter Capaldi was great and soon became one of my favourite doctors.
Are you talking about when he and Clara have to save the queen from the soul-eating monster and he sacraficed himself to the"sun" and he full-on shut the sun down because that was one of my favorite speeches
Fimbly 2003 Okay then. That’s what I’ll do. I’ll tell you a story. Can you hear them? All these people who lived in terror of you and your judgment. All these people whose ancestors devoted themselves - sacrificed themselves - *to you*. Can you hear them singing? Oh, you like to think you’re a *God*. Well, you’re not a God - you’re just a parasite, eaten out with jealous, envy, and longing for the lives of others. You *feed* on them. On the memory of love, and loss, and birth, and death, and joy, and sorrow…so…SO…come on then, take mine. Take. My. Memories. But I hope you’ve got a big appetite. Because I have lived a LONG life, and I have seen a *few* things. I walked away from the last Great Time War. I marked the passing of the Time Lords. I saw the *birth* of the universe and I watched as time RAN OUT, moment by moment, until NOTHING remained - NO TIME, NO SPACE, *JUST ME*! I walked in universes where the laws of physics were devised by the mind of a *mad* man. And I’ve watched universes freeze, and creation *burn* - I have seen things you WOULDN’T *BELIEVE* AND I HAVE *LOST* THINGS YOU WILL *NEVER* UNDERSTAND - and I know things. Secrets that must never be told. *Knowledge* that must NEVER be *SPOKEN*! KNOWLEDGE THAT WILL MAKE. PARASITE.GODS. *BLAZE*! SO *COME* ON, THEN!!! TAKE IT!!!! TAKE IT ALL, BABY!!!!! HAVE IT! YOU. HAVE. I
Fimbly 2003 I wrote it out constantly to try to remember it in the notes app, once I finally got it first try I changed up so some words are bold and then i added it as a shortcut so it comes up when I type akhatans out Also I did the same thing with Matt Smith first speech and I keep accidentally using it as I put it as basically
How can you say that? That speech defines how he has changed. A totally selfless act to let Susan go, total contrast to the selfish Doctor we see in the first two stories. Also Tom Baker had two famous iconic speeches which you have totally ignored. You have proven you know nothing about the classic series. Stick to the modern series, it's so obviously your era.
" It all just disappears, doesn't it? Everything you are gone in a moment like breath, on a mirror. Any moment now, he's coming. The doctor We all change, if you think about it, we're all different people, all through our lives. That's okay it's good, you gotta keep moving so long as you remember all the people that you used to be. I will not forget one line of this, not one day I swear. I will always remember WHEN THE DOCTOR WAS ME."- eleven
"Things end. That's all. Everything ends, and it's always sad. But everything begins again too, and that's always happy. Be happy. I'll look after everything else."
Eleven's speech at the end of "Eleventh Hour" is his defining moment. This was the first episode I saw, and the way the speech was done, delivered, acted? I immediately bought that Matt Smith was The Doctor, and carried the full legacy of the Doctors before him.
In full agreement there. Nothing overly bombastic, but just a steady build-up. Until that "Basically run" statement. No direct threats. No overly grandiose wording. Just layered questions until 11 comes through the holo-image of 10 and says "Hello, I'm the Doctor." That is 11 in a nutshell! Granted the stakes ramp up at the other points mentioned with 11, but without the template in "The Eleventh Hour", I don't think they would of hit as solidly...
The eleventh hour is my favourite of the new doctors episodes (if that makes sense). 2nd is the sycorax (sorry if I spelt that wrong) one not quite what that's called maybe the sycorax invasion.
@@rhysrandell6904 Spelled correctly as far as I can tell! As for the episode, it was interesting watching Rose try to talk her way out of things, but I think the sword fight was a little much...
@@TymersRealm Also, Matt had a smug little smile on his face and a cold look in his eye. It's subtle but when he said "Basically... run", he had a look that said "Or don't. And see what happens when I'm REALLY pissed off." It's like he was actively restraining himself from simply blasting the Atraxi out of the sky with his still unstable regeneration energy. He was within the first 15 hours of regenerating and had considerably more excess energy left over than David Tennant did when he regrew his severed hand to defeat the Sycorax leader. Granted, the Doctor could only have destroyed the Atraxi ship he was currently facing before the rest of them destroyed the planet but it would still send a message to the others.
With all the discussion of 13's short comings last year, I liked how one very strong positive you described is she's the doctor who's finally moved on. While it would be a major event and fans would want it just for the moment, I would like to see 13 meet one of her previous incarnations of New Who. The reason why is that up until the end of 11, they were plagued by events of what they had done as the War Doctor. Even 12 still felt the lingering effects of it and other events that kept him in that place. Now imagine one of these men meets their future self that has changed for a far more cheerful and optimistic side? A lot of people who struggle are told how things improve and get better, but imagine the Doctor in a dark place talking to his future self who's changed dramatically (discovering the gender change as well would be a fun moment unto itself) but is proof in front of him that he will break free, he will get out of this. There's a lot you could do with that. I doubt they'd get Eccleston, but Tennant, Smith or Cappaldi I could see returning. I just think it could make an interesting dynamic for a multi-doctor moment.
I want Eight for that exact premise you described. Even if it's just 13 treating him to a day of rest whilst he goes through hell. Apparently she did it for the Fourth, so it's fully possible! Just hopefully we can get it on TV this time.
@@SamyulDavis When did this happen with the Fourth Doctor? I'm presuming it was a comic or a novel... just wondering cuz I need to check it out... EDIT: Nevermind, just got to the 'Scratchman' section 😅... Thats what I get for scrolling while watching. I kinda overlooked that novel, just thinking it was a 'simple' doctor who story, wow, I seem to have seriously misjudged that... somethings going straight on the Christmas list! 😊
DAVIS I’d love to see an Eight/Thirteen crossover. McGann and Whittaker would play off each other brilliantly, plus it would be a great way to firmly connect the Chibnall era with the show’s mythology.
@@SamyulDavis yes, 8 and 13 meeting would be so good to see on screen, although if it's 8's later life it would sadly mean not seeing one of my favourite companions as well but it would be good to see him again and for him to see that everything eventually turns out ok and it would be great for the show to finally acknowlege the classic show more by having a full crossover story (outside of the 2 specials) and also fully acknowlege the 8th doctor big finish audios.
13, Jodie Whitaker, is without the dark angst because, I believe, she is the first version of the Doctor to be fully free of the shadow of the Last Great Time War. We've been trailing it along like toilet paper stuck on our shoe this whole time, and it took Capaldi's death to shake it off. I believe her moment came in the Holiday episode.
If we ever get a return to dark brooding Doctor with Whittaker I’ll be mad. And I see it happening tbh, a complete inability to stick to any one actual thought, motif or direction. 13’s only character traits are awkward and sunny. Take that away and those little scraps end up as nothing.
@@kbrock9146 Perhaps the companions will keep her spirits up. Maybe that's why there's so many of them. More likely I think she'll prevent it from happening, which means we're not done with The Master yet.
@@accountfor1reason we will never be done with the Master. I'm commenting on the thought that hopefully 13 has put this all behind her...... then surprise! Master is back and Gallifrey is burned AGAIN. It's just repeating itself over again.
@@kbrock9146 Yes, she'll manage, hopefully without going dark. And yes we'll have to deal with the Master's recent past self as we find out what happened to Gallifrey. What I'm really anticipating is his future self when he explains how his present self got out of the Tentacle Dimension! That aught to be a hoot.
The Second Doctor's last moments are funny but I read it as desparation. "You've asked me to make one choice and I'm going to drag it out as long as I can" There's not even a plan, he can't win against the Time Lords, he just wants a little longer at their expense.
Thirteen's most defining moment to me was when Ryan's dad walked in and she immediately said "you weren't at Grace's funeral." I love her ferocious directness.
jeck jeck agreed. He deserves more appreciation. He’s my favourite actor and doctor and I will always love him. Peter Capaldi and Jenna Coleman are my favourite actors :)
xZempty_ who would you say is the best then? I think the worst of all doctor who is 10 as he doesn’t really feel like the doctor to me and his era is full of romance and it feels like a soap. Also the performance is really over the top and it really annoys me most the time. Easily worst doctor Imo and I don’t get what’s so good about him.
IDN Media everyone has opinions and you can’t really argue when 10 is one of the most popular. 11 is my favourite because I grew up with him and I’ve never enjoyed a Doctor more than Matt and still love him the most.
@@EmpireEmployeeRick His performances were great. He had great range where he could go from joking one minute to menacing the next. He was also the more relatable in his relationships with his companions. Also Tennants chemistry with Katherine Tate was the best in the show making for some of the funniest moments. With Matt Smith i thought alot of the humor was childish and eyerolling like talking baby making most of the humor fall flat for me. Also his silly old man/kid nature while endearing made him hard to take seriously at times whereas Tennant was just pure wit. With 12 it seems like they were trying too hard to make him wierd and quirky at times ending up in alot of cringy moments like the infamous tank scene. Also with Moffat at the helm i just dont think the writing was as good overall as the Russel T Davies era. Moffat should have stuck to one off episodes like Heaven Sent where he gets small (mostly isolated) stories that he's so great at.
Idk 10 doesn't feel like the Doctor in the scene where he takes the gun, for the soul reason, he takes the gun with the intention of murdering someone in cold blood
@@SamyulDavis Which annoys me coz that's not what the Doctor is all about, 1, 3, 4, 5, 8, 9, War and 11 all excepted death when it came knocking on their door, that's the point of regeneration, renewal. The whole point is the Doctor isn't human and his own death shouldn't effect him in the way it effects us. He was going to let Wilf die man just to save himself, something he'd never do. He should've excepted death in the end instead of drawing it out and making it harder for fans to get on board with the new Doctor and head writer
Brit Animations How boring would it be if the Doctor was never pushed into new things and experiences? We wouldn’t have 9, 12 or the time war, that’s for sure.
Brit Animations I think the War Doctor is a bit more radical than not wanting to die Taking the gun is a brilliant visual raising of stakes and the stakes literally could not be any higher or any more personal to the Doctor. Plus, it ends up saving the day non-violently. Some people just call any deviation of rigid expectations as ‘out of character’. No, that’s how you get new types of stories. Half of these moments in-vid could be described as out of character if that’s how we judge it.
After seeing the extraction of Clara it occurs to me that instead of the Timelords recruiting the second doctor after War Games and then killing him, it's more likely that they killed him, and then recruited him when they needed him. Especially because it would be safer on their end to prevent him "trying to escape" because he would know his execution/regeneration would be fixed and he would have to return after any mission.
You know what moment sold me on 13? When she went "wait a minute, I can just make a new sonic." And she banged one together out of space junk and spoons. I really hoped we would get a "tinkerer doctor" who just loved making stuff. Still hope they play that aspect up next season because it's a trait thats always present and never central and I really want to see it given some focus in an incarnation.
Yep. Tinkerer would've been amazing, especially with the bumbag she carries around. Get ready to never see that unique detail come back. It's the smallest thing and the fact that something so simple didn't happen beyond the pilot tells me there was little to no series communication.
@@SamyulDavis I want to see the fact that she's overly reliant on tech come up way more. The only example we have of her being a tinkerer Doctor is that she uses the sonic way more than the others- and I don't think that's down to character reasons
This sjw femenazi “bitch Doctor” doesn’t know what she’s doing and I look for the day she leaves the show and bring a male doctor back. I miss watching this show already
@@SamyulDavis The tinkerer side came out a few times. She cobbled together an analyser out of "oil, water, tree bark, a saucepan, nine containers, an old newspaper, ox spit and chicken poo" in Demons of the Punjab. And in The Battle of Ranskoor Av Kolos she cobbled together a circuit out of the TARDIS, The Ux and Stenza technology to return the stolen planets.
1: "One Day I shall come back" 4: "Do I have the right?" 5: Mournful reaction to Adric's death 7: Forcing Ace to lose her faith in him 9: Confronting the Dalek 10: The Fury of the Time Lord 11: Ring of Akhaten speech 12: The Zygon Inversion speech.
Can someone please do an edit where the "take my life" speech is followed by the Seinfeld theme playing over Seven getting shot? His death was heartsbreaking.
Arguably, a Doctor's most defining moment SHOULD come from their final episode. Their final episode is the culmination of who they have become during their run. Within that final episode, they have become defined.
1- "And prove to me that I am not mistaken in mine" (The Dalek Invasion Of Earth)- I see the first glimpses of sadness 2- "The rest of the time they sleep in my mind" (The Tomb Of The Cybermen)- The Doctor's compassion and care 3- Saying goodbye to Jo (The Green Death)- A scene displaying why everyone leaves and the Doctor is left alone once more 4- "Do I have the right?" (Genesis Of The Daleks)- The Doctor's moral put to the test 5- "For some people, small, beautiful events is what life is all about"- The Doctor discussing the importance of ordinary people 6- "Planets come and go, stars perish." (Trial Of A Time Lord: The Mysterious Planet)- The Doctor's view of eternity 7- "Every great decision creates ripples" (Remembrance Of The Daleks)- The Doctor's darker side and thinking of the consequences 8- "You feel that pounding in your heart?" (Storm Warning)- The Doctor's excitement and thirst for adventure 9- "Everybody Lives" (The Doctor Dances)- His pure joy of doing a good deed after so much tragedy 10- Not taking the gun from Wilfred (The End Of Time Pt.2)- His moral until the very end 11- "The way I see it every life is a pile of good things and bad things" (Vincent And The Doctor)- His compassion and kindness even though it was small 12- "The man who stops the monsters" (Flatline)- The Doctor we always know standing for what's right 13- "You're going to have to let me go and keep on being brilliant by yourself" (It Takes You Away)- Even changed, she still is compassionate, accepting goodbyes and saying that memories are important from previous incarnations
I agree that 13 didn't have any moments where she went to intimidate an enemy or give a speech about how strong/smart/better she is than others. But I agree it wouldn't have worked. There is more than one way to show strength and emulating your male predecessors isn't the way IMO.
My picks. Christopher: "maybe not" (ep1) David: "This is my timey winey detector, it goes ding when there's *stuff*" Matt: "can I have an apple" Peter: "so... Anyone for dogems" Jodie: "never did this when I was a man"
That speech of love 13 gives can really show she can do an amazing performance, if she only had proper writers to allow her to stretch her wings. She’s suffering the same problems Colin Baker had as the 6th Doctor during his tenure. Big Finish shows that with proper writing the 6th Doctor can be done amazingly. I’m willing to give her a chance instead of just shitting on her like a lot of people are.
I didn't enjoy the 13th doctor but I acknowledge that writing was 100% to blame. I do think she needs to move into the character more and make it her own rather than copying David Tennant and Matt Smith's doctors but I think with decent writing she could be good.
Flipper2002 she really just needs good writers, and to find herself how to work the character her way. Sylvester McCoy only saw Doctor Who during the Troughton era and so emulated the Space Hobo styling with a bit more cunning and planning. So I feel maybe if she had a better writing staff and studied the character of the Doctor she could find a way to make it work for her. I really want to give her a chance instead of being like a lot of people who just shit on her and lay the blame solely on her. If Colin and McCoy and mcgann could get a better chance with big finish, just imagine how people would change if she had the same writing quality.
Give it a year, you'll warm up to 13th. I remember when everyone hated 11 and 12 when they were new but they just needed a chance to grow and grow they did.
Not gonna lie, in The Eleventh Hour when Smith have his speech to the Atraxi and said *"run"*. Quietly, powerfully, and full of life. THIS is Matt Smith, THIS is The Doctor. And. You'd. Better. RUN! That was when I fell in love with Smith's Doctor, and why he was my personal favourite Doctor.
1: “One day i shall come back,” 2: “Shame, people spend all their time making nice things and other people come along and break them”/War Games Trial, 3: Sword fight with delgado/Any scream of AKIDAIII when doing venusian Akido/ “A tear? Sarah Jane? Oh don’t cry” 4: Skipping with Harry scene in Robot/“Do i have the right?”, 5: “Sorry, must dash” - talking to the master in the Death Zone (and then teleporting away with the best shit-eating grin ever seen) / Crashing the Ship 6: “10 million years of absolute power, that’s what it takes to be truly corrupt!”, 7: “UNLIMITED RICE PUDDING ETCETERA ETCETERA!”/ “Come on Ace, we’ve got work to do” 8: “4 minutes? That’s ages! What if get board, anyone for chess? Bring me Knitting!”/“Physician heal thyself”, 9: “Coward, any day”/ You would make a good dalek scene, 10: Timelord Victorious/Window scene with donna - Partners in Crime, 11:Pandorica Opens speech/Rings of Ahkaten speech, 12: Zygon Inversion Speech, 13: cant remember any defining ones tbh
...he talking to his previous incarnations in scarecrow form. All of them just chiding him, mocking him... I didn't know Worzel Gummidge is Doctor Who cannon.
I think the most memorable moment for the first was his monologue when he left Susan. Every word was clear and emotional, and he didn’t even stutter. Shocking for the character and actor, and it really made his words more impactful. It didn’t define him, but it certainly was an important moment in Hartnell’s run. Similar thing with the start of Time Flight, when the fifth Doctor insists that he isn’t breaking the rules of time to go save Adric, and that Adric had made his choice. For defining Troughton I thought of The War Games, but not the final scene. I thought of when he finally made the decision to call on the Time Lords for help- for all the same reasons as he chose the regeneration scene, plus we see that this is where he finally gives up, but still does what needs to be done, knowing it would be the end for him.
11:01 oh god don’t do this to me. Glad this genius story is getting some recognition though. And I personally thought the gut punch at the end was the highlight of the box set.
N / A It’s a part of history that might not have even been put on prime time family TV even a decade or two prior. Just a great example of historical diversity actually opening up creative options for new stories rather than Victorian London for the 1000th time Twice Upon a Time is the Doctor realising the world has good in it and isn’t just an endless treadmill. Punjab features a villain showing that evil can just as easily come from radicalisation and scared, paranoid people. The only plot beat hey have in common is the ‘villain misunderstanding’ trope, and if you’re worried about tropes in Who I got bad news for you
@@SamyulDavis as much as I love that partition idea, I feel like it still isn't a new kind of historical, just a historical with a new setting. Also, I understand the paranoia aspect of the story, but to me, it didn't feel like it was properly handled as the framing of the story was out of whack as no one really talked about it in the real A plot of the story (being the romance aspect) and the main dude died because of paranoia in a story where there's a great speech about love, I don't know about you but that that sends some mad mixed messages and I'd argue does follow the idea that they are on an endless treadmill of shit. But yeah, it's a fucking great speech though
I'm a huge fan of 13 and so I really appreciate the turn your video made on her right from the start. She gets so much unwarranted hate and we haven't had a "first" season with a new team in ages because Moffat's run was so long. As it was with 9th's sadly only series and 11th's first series, I think the quirks must be ironed out, keeping what worked, toss what didn't. And her beautiful joy and love of life really worked. It sets her apart from 12, who I dearly loved, but also from the underlying angst of 11 and arrogance of 10. Thank you for appreciating this so beautiful here.
I have always found that it's dark or grey moral moments that bring out what it means to be the doctor. And by that same token, those moments of true love and compassion bring out what the title of doctor means, at least in my eyes.
Jodie Whittaker is a fantastic actor and I'm happy to see her as the Doctor. But the writing is what let the 13th Doctor down. As you said, she does have some good moments, but she hasn't made the impression the previous Doctors have just yet. Which isn't to say that's bad, or that she won't get one. I feel like the 12th Doctors most defining moments came in his 2nd and 3rd series (Heaven Sent and The Doctor Falls respectively).
My opinion is that chibnall and whittaker didn’t research the roles enough. Chibnall’s opinions on what doctor who should be like is very different and I don’t think works very well. If you look at the individual episodes he’s written before, they’re notorious for being unoriginal. Whittaker has admitted to not researching the role and not being a fan of doctor who and I think that’s where her flaws fall. I think they’re both talented in their own crafts, but I don’t think doctor who falls in that.
@@aarontokay1463 Yeah, I agree. Comparing Whittaker to Eccleston, both weren't fans of the show growing up - Eccleston admitting he preferred Star Trek, and usually went out to play when Doctor Who was on - but I feel like Eccleston respected the show a lot more and took care to research his role.
I admit I haven't seen all of season 11 yet, and it wasn't unenjoyable, but the writing definitely doesn't feel the same. I think Whittaker's doing a good job, but there just hasn't been that defining moment were it seems like THIS is the Doctor she is. But look at Capaldi's first season. Capaldi's first season was a whole lot worse than his second and third. If everything stayed the way it was in those seasons, he would be my least favorite Doctor. 13 still has time to become a great Doctor.
I wonder a little about the assumption that each Doctor needs a defining *moment.* RTD and Moffat were fans of big dramatic moments. But that's not the only way to do it. Like you pointed out, classic Doctor Who often defined character throughout their stories rather than in big splashy moments. And I think that's Chibnall's style too, when he's on his A-game. Season 11 had some good ideas but it was just underbaked. It feels stupid lazy and rushed. I think so far Season 12 is giving us a better idea of how good a character writer Chibnall can be when he puts in the time and effort.
(I'll update this as I continue my marathon, but so far) "Doctor Moments" 1. The Time Meddler - when the Doctor finds out from Edith that she's never seen any monks from come the monastery, and his concern leads him to investigate. It's one of the first moments where the Doctor wants to "put things right" as opposed to the more selfish goal of saving his own skin, or simply not meddling. 2. The Moonbase - It's a classic, the "they must be fought" line. Again, an early recognition that the role of the Doctor is to combat evil.
Some very good picks all around, though I wasn't expecting the Romans speech to make an appearance. The choices for 13th, 8th and 4th are some very interesting picks too, mostly because of your thoughts on those, I think you're probably on to something in terms of what defines their characters and how they factor into the show. I also would've picked the introspection on Inferno that the 3rd Doctor makes, that one pushed his buttons quite hard, knowing that disaster could've been avoided but the Jo Grant departure is a nice pick too.
Ok, I don't even get it, how did her confrontation with the Dalek fall on it's face? The tech skills line I'll give you, but both moments when she confronts the Dalek are very impactful
It's a shame you didn't wait until this year to do this video, because you'd have had so many 13 moments to choose from that have happened during Series 12. The opening and closing speech from Praxeus for example.
Great vid, very well analysed! Kinda helped me to see Series 11 in a slightly different light. Ohhh man that whole "out of the way" scene might be one of my favorite moments from the entire RTD era. You can see how difficult it is for The Doctor, he seems so confident and yet so weak at the same time, he could end everything and it wouldn't be hard, but he has a simple moral code to go by, making it all the more difficult. And then he finally finds another solution, proving for the hundredth time that there's always another way, and completing the arc between the 10th Doctor and The Master. The Master and the Doctor fight along side each other, both learning who their true enemies were all along...
Both 10 and 11 were the Doctor from their first episode for me. 10 with his entire speech about he didn't know who he was yet was great. 13 had more episodes than the War Doctor but never really formed as a character in the way that War Doctor did
I think 10's defining moment for me is the Cafe scene with Wilfred Mot. Everything we know and see about the 10th Doctor culminates in that moment as he looks into the eyes of the man who is going to kill him and he tells him he doesn't want to die. The Time Lord Victorious no more.
Genesis of the Dalek's Where Doctor ask Sarah and Harry 'if someone pointed a child out to and told you, he would become the most evil person in the universe, could you kill him' later 12th Meets Davros as a boy in a hand mine field during the battle on Skaro, once learning who he is then that question by the 4th Doctor is answered, though how the 4th knew about what the 12th would have to chose to do, must be Wibbly, Wobbly Timey Whiney Stuff. These are two defining moments for both, not just because 4th could cause genocide (which the 7th did using the Hand of Omega) questioning whether he has the right but the connection to Davros because of the 12th but we don't know that until the 12th meets Davros as a child.
9- Everybody Lives (Empty Child/Doctor Dances) 10- The Timelord Victorious (Waters of Mars) 11- Basically, Run (The 11th Hour) 12- Listen Monolouge (Listen) 13th- That one scene in the plane where like the intro theme plays i don't what to call it (The Woman fell to earth)
My list: 1: Have you no emotions, sir? 2: Our lives are unlike any body else's, that's the exciting thing. 3: Answer petty obsessions! England for the English! Good heavens man! (I have a duty to my country!) Not to the world!? 4: If I kill, wipe out a whole intelligent life form, I'd be no better than the Daleks. (You must destroy them, you must complete you're mission) Do I have the right? 5: I owe it to my friend to try because I got her into this, so you see, I'm not gonna let you stop me now! 6: Ten million years of absolute power, that's what it takes to be, really corrupt! 7: There are worlds out there where the sky is burning, the seas sleep, and the rivers dream, somewhere there's danger, somewhere there's injustice, somewhere else a tea's getting cold, come on Ace, we've got work to do. 8: I'm a Doctor, but probably not the one you're expecting. (Really just all of Night of the Doctor) War: For just this once, I am the Doctor again. 9: Why don't you finish the job, make the Daleks extinct, WHY DON'T YOU JUST DIE!? (YOU WOULD MAKE A GOOD DALEK!) 10: I'm a Time-Lord, I'm from the planet Gallifrey in the constellation of Casterborous, and I'm the man who's going to save your lives as well as the 6.8 billion people on the world below. 11: (Akhaten speech: abridged)... I walked away from the last great Time War, I watched as Time ran out, I have lost things you would never understand, and I know things, secrets that must never be told, knowledge that must never be spoken! 12: SIT! DOWN! AND! TALK! 13: This team structure isn't always flat, it's mountainous, with me at the summit!
War’s defining moment for me was a scene in Legion of the Lost were he explains how he’s going to destroy a Dalek weapon despite the high council wanting it intact with him saying how he knows that they’d use it somehow. Him explaining how no matter what, he is still on the side of the innocents and will do whatever he can to stop more suffering, shows that he still really is the Doctor. Also for the David Warner Doctor I’d pick his final speech to his therapist in Asking for a friend. Words just cannot describe it
im in the minority. i love Jodie. she reminds me of Tom Baker...the only doctor to me. i mean i was a child when i watched who every night at 7pm on channel 2. (usa). i loved his goofyness and i feel Jodie has that...and she is adorable..."i love holograms, i was a hologram once,..for 3 weeks...the gossip i heard" thats funny..i laughed aloud. i liked the episodes "fugitive of judoon" and "praxeus" judoon with the 3 doctors could give an escape possibility to the origin of the doctor as in the timeless children..maybe its a different dimension....time travel allows for limitless stories and possibilities...just my thought..i personally would like to see Jodie do all the Tom Baker episodes and heck with trying to write new stories...or just his best ones..especially with monsters and aliens....i wonder why timelord morbius has not been in the new episodes...or has he? i have not seen everyone of them.
I liked McCoy's Ripples Speech from Remembrance. Very thoughtful. And Tom Baker's defining moment is definitely "Do I have the right?" And for Hartnell I would choose his monologue at the end of The Massacre after Steven left the Tardis in anger. Because this was the first time that the Doctor was questioning himself and it made a real change of his personality.
I disagree with Matt smiths one, just move forward about 5 more minutes from where you said aaaaaaaand that’s where I cried my eyes out and knew he was the best doctor
My favourite capaldi speech is the zygon one. “You think this is a war?”
😢
(Commas placed as breathing pauses rather than grammatical sense
I also wanted to stop earlier, but I just couldn't...)
The speeches in 21st century Who are terrible. They always sound like some child improvised them.
@@FreeTheDonbas The aforementioned Zygon speech at the very least is an amazing showcase of The Doctor's guilt though. Capaldi gave it his all.
I'm only familiar with New Who I apologize but for me
9- "Just this once, everybody lives!" From The Doctor Dances, you hit it right on the nail
10- The "I could be so much more" speech from The End of Time Part 2.
"Any single time 'A Good Man' plays on the soundtrack"
So true, "Madman in a Box" is the most badass, but "A Good Man" is the most epic.
1. Birth of a sun (The Edge Of Destruction speech)
2. Welcome to the tardis ! (The Enemy Of The World Ending)
3. Jo, you've got all the time in the world and the space. I'm offering them to you. (The Green Death)
4. There is no point in being grown up if you can't be childish sometimes (Robot)
5. I just feel as though you've just killed an old friend” (The Visitation)
6. It doesnt Matter to whom the cruelty is directed, the cruelty itself is wrong (The Holy Terror)
7. Infinite Rise Pudding (Remembrance Of The Daleks)
8. The ultimate Timelord fashion Accessoire (Scherzo)
9. Street corner, two in the morning, getting a taxi home. I’ve never had a life like that. (Father's Day)
10. Why would I give her my screwdriver? Why would I do that ? Oooooh I'm very good. Saved her (Silence In the Library/Forest Of The Dead Ending)
11. The doctor will see you now ! (The Eleventh Hour)
12. The Man That Stops The Monsters (Flatline)
13. I promise, you and I will be friends Forever. (It Takes You Away Frog)
Best twelfth Doctor moment is either the war speech or the kindness speech.
1. Either The War Machines when he stands unflinching in front of it finishing his arc from reluctant runaway to full on hero or Speech in the Massacre when he comes to term with what his new life is going to mean for the first time
2. Standing before the Time Lords justifying what he has done. The Doctor has finally grown into a man who will never turn his back on those in need and he is proud of what he has learnt
3. The Doctor facing his fear of the Great One
4. His moral argument with Davros in Genesis
5. Either getting the Bats Milk for Peri in Androzani or that moment in Planet of Fire where he watches unflinching as the Master burns alive finally having enough of the universes shit
6. Unfortunately not many big moments. Just denouncing the time lords in Trial of a Time Lord
7. Tricking Davros into destroying Skaro. Not the most dramatic moment but definitely the one that shows him as a man you don't want to piss off
8. Deciding to join the Time War, he doesn't have many moments but this felt like the end of a long arc where he keeps running from the inevitable and finally accepts it
War: Finally making his decision to destroy Galifrey. That was his moment and honestly shouldn't have been changed
9. Everybody lives and the Delta Wave. One his best day in a long time and you can just see that for the first time he has truly become the Doctor again, the other his worst nightmare, the moment all over again coming to haunt him
10. Sacrificing himself for Wilf, letting go of his arrogant self importance and simply recognising the value in the life of an old, insignificant man
11. The Doctor threatening Colonel Manton and that Power of Three scene with Amy, really shows how much he values the short time he has with each companion
12. Breaking the Wall and Without Rewards. Both show the Doctor's true selflessness and care for those he loves.
13. I've despised her but there is one scene where I felt like the Doctor shined through. Just for a moment. Her speech about love on the wedding in Punjab
i wish the massacre wasnt audio only
If it fits here, I'd like to share my favourite scenes for each Doctor.
1: Probably would have to be Susan's departure. You can see how much it hurt to say his first goodbye.
2: The War Games when the Time Lords betray him. You can see the look of "Excuse me?"
3: The sword fight with the Master.
Three different attempts on his life, and he just says "Nope."
10: His cracks beginning to show in Waters of Mars.
The Seventh Doctors end my life speech is my favourite moment in all Doctor Who
So glad you mentioned Lies in Ruins.
I’ll never get over the scene with him walking into battle alongside the silence.. amazing
Can we agree that the "This is not a flat plain" is 13 new defining speech?
Although the video is called every doctors defining moments, it doesn't include the war doctor played by the late sir John hurt. Who is also the oldest guy to date to play the doctor, by more than 10 years I might add.
Peter Capaldi’s should of been the “where I stand” speech as it defines what all he stands for. Although the defining moments should be in there first series-second not really the last but I completely agree with the Matt Smith one, excellent choices yet all very sad.
“A character arc should be fully concluded as soon as possible.”
Also the regen speech is a lot more specific to actor & showrunner than that fairly routine speech.
DAVIS true as it does base of what children think the doctor is and what he/she stands for.
Although again I say the “where I stand speech” as right after the master immediately shuts him down which for me it degrades the speech but at the same time it gives it higher power.
But I agree with his final speech, “Always try to be nice, but never fail to be kind.”
A great line that shows everything that the doctors did over their lives and then right after with the run fast defines everything about them
DAVIS also with the character ark ending, rivers final moments(well technically her first moments) with her speech in the library really defines everything that we were to see of her but we didn’t realise how important this was until that final moment in Darillium in “the husbands of river song”
My top 4 Doctors defining moments
4 - Do I have the right ? in "Genesis of the Daleks"
5 - saving peri in "Caves of Andrazani"
6 - "Trial of a Timelord" speech
7- manipulating Ace in "Curse of Fenric" / speech in "Happiness Patrol"
I think Jodie had one now with her "this team structure is not flat. It's a mountain and I am at the top"
I cringed very hard. This Doctor doesn't seem built for stern assholery.
Nine: "Have a fantastic life."
Ten: Punishing the Family of Blood
Eleven: Confronting the Sun God
Twelve: The Zygon Inversion speech
Thirteen: "I'm the Doctor. Sorting out fair play throughout the universe. Now please get off this planet while you still have a choice."
9: Wide sarcastic smile
10: Wide genuine smile
11: smirk
12: No smile
13: donkey face
MY OWN NUMBERED LABELING OF THE BODY FORMS OF (THE DOCTOR) FROM (DOCTOR WHO) SHOW:
Now the First Season of (DOCTOR WHO) of the character (The Doctor) played by actor (Christopher Eccleston) is body form number ten, and the body form of (The Doctor) played by actor (David Tennant) in the seasons of 2-4 is labeled as number eleven, and to add labeled as 11& a half as well because of what happened to (The Doctor) in one of the Seasons of (DOCTOR WHO) be it in that of Season Three, or in Season Four.
I’ll be honest for eleven I think the speech from the rings of akahaten was better because it finally shows the doctor coming to terms with the loss of Amy and Rory, the time war and all the things he saw and did
Perfect analogy
Moffat understood the heart and soul of the Doctor.
Chibnall does not.

FOR MATT SMITHS DEFINING MOMENT THE CLOCK STRIKES 13 TIMES!
loved 13's xmas episode!!!
Moffat wasn’t the best at weaving a long story but god DAMN can he write a compelling speech
i miss davies' storylines :(
@@MaSeshield same dude
I think that's one hell of a bird" for 12, imho
Speaking from a space where I know a lot of people with PTSD, depression, and have done grief counselling...
Doctor Who is just England Jojo’s Bizzarre Adventure
YEP
Alcer The Demon I told this to my friend Emma and she said you're not wrong
Think you mean Jojo’s Bizzarre Adventure is just Japanese Doctor who

Yesss, glad i'm not the only one who thought about this lol
1- Susan's departure (Dalek Invasion of Earth)
2- the sit down with Victoria (Tomb of the Cybermen)
3- Jo's departure (The Green Death)
4- the conversation with Davros (Genesis of the Daleks)
5- Crash landing (Caves of Androzani)

Augie-A agree with everything except I would replace 10 with the voyage of the damned speech, 11 with the pandorica speech, 12 with the zygomatic inversion speech
Heaven sent's breaking the wall speach definitely is my favourite
“Daddy Capaldi”
Hahahahaha same.
I swear half of these is in each's last story. 1, 2, 5, 6, 10, 11, and 12.

2) “we are the only ones in the universe who can do what we’re doing” (Tomb of the Cybermen)
3) “a tear? Sarah Jane?” (Planet of the spiders)

5) Saving Perry without hesitation (the Caves of Androzani)
6) [Big finish’s regeneration arc]
7) Convincing a dalek to kill itself (remembrance of the Daleks)
8) “will it hurt?” “Yes.” “Good” (Night of the Doctor)
War) “Great men are forged in fire, it is the privilege of lesser men to light the flame” (Day of the Doctor)
9) “why don’t you just die” (Dalek)

13) The wedding scene (demons of punjab) [you’ve convinced me]

While I agree that those are some of 12's defining moments, I'd say his most defining was the breaking the wall speech ('That's one hell of a bird!') from Heaven Sent which is one of, if not my favourite episode.
I feel like not enough people talk about just how hard the "The fury of the Time Lord" scene/speech hits. It's one of my favorite... scenes? Speeches? in the show. I just absolutely love how it shows the darker side of 10 which later becomes a pretty big deal by the end of The Waters of Mars. Absolutely love it, gives me chills every time.

I feel that Matt smiths defining moment was the “Rings of Akhatan” speech where he stated all parts of his life including the classical series and after the loss of Amy and Rory it really sparked up and showed who he really was. Like “No one else, JUST ME!”
Matt Smiths final moment was legendary and It hit me so hard I left the show until 2017, that was a terrible mistake as despite I missed Matt Smith peter Capaldi was great and soon became one of my favourite doctors.

Okay then. Also I did the same thing with Matt Smith first speech and I keep accidentally using it as I put it as basically
I was expecting the "one day, I will come back" speech to be on here, because that's the First Doctor moment everyone talks about.
It builds to nothing! The series absolutely let that speech down.
@Joshua Simpson I'll say, that one still has me in tears when i listen to it
" It all just disappears, doesn't it? Everything you are gone in a moment like breath, on a mirror. Any moment now, he's coming. The doctor
We all change, if you think about it, we're all different people, all through our lives. That's okay it's good, you gotta keep moving so long as you remember all the people that you used to be.
@@Jragonlord I cringe a little when the doctor says "this hand is a fighting hand".
Is no one gonna talk about him mixing Sweet Dreams and The Doctor Who theme mix in the background?...
No?....

I only wish that were my doing. Check out 'Whorhythmic' online. Great track.

I’d love to see an Eight/Thirteen crossover.

@@accountfor1reason we will never be done with the Master. I'm commenting on the thought that hopefully 13 has put this all behind her...... then surprise! Master is back and Gallifrey is burned AGAIN. It's just repeating itself over again.

Maybe thats uh the point
The vanity and very human desperation to love/live was always there in RTD's 10th doctor.

@@SamyulDavis Having a Time War and vanity are two different things dude
Brit Animations I think the War Doctor is a bit more radical than not wanting to die
Taking the gun is a brilliant visual raising of stakes and the stakes literally could not be any higher or any more personal to the Doctor.
That scene kind of made me sad cuz the doctor basically abandoned shis screwdriver.

Arguably, a Doctor's most defining moment SHOULD come from their final episode. Their final episode is the culmination of who they have become during their run. Within that final episode, they have become defined.
How could you not choose 6’s “he’s the very definition of a gallifreyan buccaneer” song as his defining moment ? XD

13- "You're going to have to let me go and keep on being brilliant by yourself" (It Takes You Away)- Even changed, she still is compassionate, accepting goodbyes and saying that memories are important from previous incarnations
I agree that 13 didn't have any moments where she went to intimidate an enemy or give a speech about how strong/smart/better she is than others. But I agree it wouldn't have worked. There is more than one way to show strength and emulating your male predecessors isn't the way IMO.

Im so happy they didnt mess up the first episode of season 12
Absolutely, Capaldi’s final speech was beautiful.
If Colin and McCoy and mcgann could get a better chance with big finish, just imagine how people would change if she had the same writing quality.

...he talking to his previous incarnations in scarecrow form.

Twice Upon a Time is the Doctor realising the world has good in it and isn’t just an endless treadmill.
My favorite 12th moment was when he was talking Bonnie out of pressing the Osgood box. I cry every time I rewatch it cus it carries so much weight
Who are you?
7: SHUT UP!
... yep that's the doctor.
I loved Hartnell's Doctor being able to have fun and be silly in The Romans. Because the Doctor was still young back then. At least 100 years old.
250 actually, and yes, still VERY young!
In my opinion she has and the writting is great but in contrast the 9th and 10th never felt the doctor to me
My opinion is that chibnall and whittaker didn’t research the roles enough.
(I'll update this as I continue my marathon, but so far)
"Doctor Moments"
When the doctor got her TARDIS back was funny when she said come to daddy, I mean mummy was funny
13: NaN (yet)
12: "go to hell!"
11: Captain runaway
10: family of blood.
09: "no."
08: when he remembered
war: I don't have to do it alone.
The Happiness Patrol is my favorite episode of all time!!! I have easily watched it over 30 times!
SirMeowsAlot89 criminally underrated. Would rather watch happiness patrol over the stupidly OVERrated androzani any day
Some very good picks all around, though I wasn't expecting the Romans speech to make an appearance.
Solid video
I plan to delve into these audio stories this year and will start w/#8
I liked 13, it’s just her first season, I’m sure she’ll be getting big monologue soon
13 is just absolutely awful
9- Everybody Lives (Empty Child/Doctor Dances)
10- The Timelord Victorious (Waters of Mars)
11- Basically, Run (The 11th Hour)
12- Listen Monolouge (Listen)
13th- That one scene in the plane where like the intro theme plays i don't what to call it (The Woman fell to earth)
Solek Man is the Zygon inversion speech a joke to you?
Airwolf 276 that’s what I was going to say
[ ] true
'Personally... I think that's a hell of a bird!'
My list:
1: Have you no emotions, sir?
(Really just all of Night of the Doctor)
War: For just this once, I am the Doctor again.
9: Why don't you finish the job, make the Daleks extinct, WHY DON'T YOU JUST DIE!? (YOU WOULD MAKE A GOOD DALEK!)
10: I'm a Time-Lord, I'm from the planet Gallifrey in the constellation of Casterborous, and I'm the man who's going to save your lives as well as the 6.8 billion people on the world below.
And Tom Baker's defining moment is definitely "Do I have the right?"
And for Hartnell I would choose his monologue at the end of The Massacre after Steven left the Tardis in anger. Because this was the first time that the Doctor was questioning himself and it made a real change of his personality.
I didn't know people didn't like Peter Capaldi's last episode I like that episode
I disagree with Matt smiths one, just move forward about 5 more minutes from where you said aaaaaaaand that’s where I cried my eyes out and knew he was the best doctor
I liked how dark the 12th doctor was
