At the beginning of 2022 I realized that I had Binge eating. In short, it's when you lose control of yourself and your eating habits. So I struggled a lot Physically and Mentally at that time. I wanted to run away from myself, from the new side I didn't know about myself, I wanted to escape, to move.
So I decided to stop my studies and work as an au pair for 5 months in a different country. So "my open road" and my journey was leading to the French Riveria. I though my Binge eating episodes will then maybe go away when I am finally in France again...
I was very lucky with my hostfamily. They were so nice to me. My Host mother was a singer and i loved the Baby. I also dated a boy, had a few friends I sometimes, but not very often hang out with over the day. So when the day came to an end and my host mother left to sing I was bringing the Baby into bed. I then was left with myself... just myself
When Lana sings: "dont leave me now" it referes to my distractions. There were no people anymore to talk with, none to distract me. I was "alone in midnight".
I often had huge Binge eating attacks that continued and got worse. The days after I often felt like "I am crazy" for the way I behaved. I had that feeling that "I had been travelling too long" and been "trying to hard" to get out of this cycle. On the one hand I wanted to stay forever on the other hand it felt like "I drove to fast", like it was to early for me to leave my home and my family for such a long time while suffering with binge eating. I also was tired of "seeing stars in my eyes" and the stress of constantly thinking about my goal but not beeing there already because my eating disorder held me back from so many things I wanted to do but i couldnt... I also had no distination. I was unsure about my studys, unsure about who I am ...
So the Eating disorder was the "War in my Mind" and the only thing I had at that time and the only thing that kept me moving was to ride, just ride...

such a great analysis! 😊this song is just so beautiful and tragic to me. the lyrics can be interpreted in many different ways, but for me it's the vocal delivery from lana that gives it that extra emotional tug! the concept of being constantly overwhelmed with your own thoughts and mind so you learn to 'just ride' is also very relatable 🥲

      thank you! 😊
i agree, her vocals always add even more depth to her songs! (along with the instrumentals). thank you for sharing your thoughts ✨

@@summersentiment you are welcome! ☺i agree too, i feel like lana has mastered how to blend lyrics, instrumentals and vocals to create a unique but highly emotive form of art! looking forward to more videos! 🌠

I interprate "I'm tired of driving till I see stars in my eyes" as the stars being the lights you see when you're driving at night and you're very tired or when your eyes are misty cause you're at the edge of tears.
Ride is my favourite song of all time, it speaks to my soul

    • @summersentiment
      @summersentiment  2 года назад

that's a wonderful way to interpret it! i love how your interpretation also encompasses the protagonist's emotions (ie: her maybe crying)

I always interpreted "I'm tried of driving until I see stars in my eyes" as tears. Because when u cry the water clouds your eyes and light makes your vision look like stars. So I always imagined her driving as she was crying

i love that interpretation!! i enjoy how it also takes the protagonist's emotional state into consideration. thank you for sharing your thoughts! 😊 ✨

really loved your analysis. i totally agree that the song is about surviving. she is not ready to face her demons. she is trying to make it but it's getting hard. she's lonely. the men the relationships the alcohol are her escape. the only thing she can do is keep moving just keep riding but she's also tired of it.

it's sad how she seems aware of her "tiredness" but still seems trapped in that cycle

You give the most in depth and best song analysis videos on youtube 💙 I liked what you said about her choosing to ride, but losing power to then make decisions, I don't think often realise this happens when in an relationship with an unequal power dynamic. Can't wait for more Lana Del Rey analysis.. and of course Snow On The Beach 🙏

To me ride is just being on the path/road that is life and sometimes you are on a open road, not knowing where you are going and sometimes you might have an idea. Lately I have felt very close to this song and I love your analysis 💞😊

Hi Summer! So when the protagonist said, "You can be my full-time daddy." I was thinking of it in the sense that she perhaps has other romantic patners aside from the said DADDY and he could be aware of this fact because the nature of their relationship could be a FRIENDS WITH BENEFITS kind of situation.
But the said DADDY wants a relationship more than that because he knows she is JUST USING HIM as a form of escapism and therefore, he wants to end their relationship.
To stop the said DADDY from LEAVING, the protagonist offers a preposition which is "You can be my full-time daddy".
That in turn means that she is willing to drop her other lovers to be with him and it also comes down to what you said about surrender, treating your relationship like a full time job and the like.
That is what I think of that line. I do not know what you think of what I have just said but I would love to know. Also, I love your channel so much. I am somewhat of a silent watcher, but today, I thought I would just give my opinion on the matter. LOTS OF LOVE FROM ZAMBIA!

      hi evelyn! ✨
i'm glad you decided to share your perspective b/c i really enjoyed reading it 😊
that's a great way to interpret it! i think it fits into the song perfectly too, it brings in another layer b/c the protagonist is making more than one choice. they are deciding to give their "daddy" full time attention but they are ALSO deciding to let go of their other lovers like you said.
that's an interesting dynamic and makes you think more about the power play of the protagonist's romantic life. and also how that bleeds into the protagonists internal state.
