cinnamon girl is actually a song by neil young. in lana's song i feel as if she is presenting the reality of the ideal woman he yearns for in his song. that's why cinnamon is coming from her lover. in fact the whole nfr album is her paying a bittersweet tribute through her relationships to the artists who contributed to the american culture. i also feel, from norman to sylvia plath, there's a layer of feminism throughout the album.

Colours always have a lot of importance for lana so I don't think she choose the colours of the pills randomly. I'm pretty sure that there is violence on that relationship and casually the pills he takes are from colours that bruises can have. I think there are pills in the form of drugs but also violence towards her.
The choose of words "I win" makes me think of a fight. She takes a moment to feel in control of the situation; she takes the hits like a fighter and she is resilient and doesn't leave the relationship so she ends up "winning" the fight.
I think she is also choosing words that can be used in a metaphore of a fight: "keep me at arms lenght" "push me out" "I win"

wow i love what you're saying here....thinking of the colors of the pills as being representative of bruises is so heartbreaking but it makes perfect sense...especially if we remember the "bruise theory" concerning "blue banisters" (the song) and even the filters on the first three singles from that album. not saying this song is directly related to that, but it could be a type of reference/imagery that lana may like to incorporate
i also like what you said about "i win", it's like she's taking her power back for a moment in what may be a violent relationship
thank you for sharing your thoughts!!

@@summersentiment You explained what I wanted to say in a more eloquent way (I'm not a native english speaker so I do what I can). I'm gonna edit my original comment and add some of your words, it will be easier to understand that way. You're great, love your lana analysis. By the way, what's your favourite lana del rey song?

@@eudaldvidalcodony7089 it changes but probably "the greatest", i love the nfr album, i find the melody/instrumentals on that album are really emotive. i think it all couples with the lyrics beautifully
also, thank you for your kind words!

Exactly my thoughts on the color! “Violet blue green red to keep me at arms length don’t work/ to keep me out I win” made me think of the colors of bruises.

I interpreted "If you hold me without hurting me, you'll be the first who ever did" not just as unhealthy relationships with lovers, but with family too. But maybe I'm just projecting my own issues into this song so I can relate to it 😬

    • @summersentiment
      @summersentiment  Год назад +1

i think it can definitely be applied to that!! i think we all project things onto our interpretations 🙃

This song feels to me like a compound of all her love experiences and the dynamics in those relationships. The fact that she acknowledges these dynamics suggests the statement of her being a cinnamon girl (on her unreleased song “Summer of Sam” she says “Baby I’m a Cinnamon girl […] baby I’m a dangerous girl, you should stay away from me” and related stuff). I think that when she says “you’d be the first who ever did” it’s her hope and longing for this to come true, the conditional used here could make sense in this context. On the chorus could fit that she wants to talk about the psychological issues she’s been dealing with with this new possible lover so maybe he could help her in some way or just warn him about it but she’s insecure because this could doom the relationship from the beginning, like if she doesn’t want to expose her demons and frighten him or something related.
This song is really addictive, also sad and with beautiful longing. I love it so much, thank you!

I love how this song makes people feel different feelings in very different ways, reading all the comments and seeing how every single one is right in their own way is… idk it makes me feel some type of way. I personally love this song because it describes a situation-ship I had and how the chorus is exactly what I would have loved to say to him the moment he left, exactly how *there were thing I wanted to say to him but I wanted to leave him alone* and how I felt, like too much, like cinnamon in a main dish.

I feel like cinnamon, as you said, is not supposed to be the main ingredient in a meal. You put it with other ingredients so that you can lessen its taste because it feels like « too much » and too tasty by itself. Maybe the protagonist feels like she’s also too much to be dealt with because of her spicy flavor ?

Idk if it's true but i've read that cinnamon is a slang for heroin and cocaine
And if you search in urban dictionary one of the most common uses besides the food condiment is a Cinamon girl: a girl that it's fire, cool... The perfect girl, one that everyone want to have, a really cool girl.
